This is the 2nd one I’ve seen that more people tuned in to Biden. That isn’t what Trump wanted.5 points

Hunter Biden again, it was a nothing burger before and it's still a nothing burger. Do some reading about this whole "scandal" and it quickly falls apart as nothing more than an attempt to give this things any kind of life. And why is Trump trying to hammer Biden on nepotism when his kids and their idiot spouses have jobs in the administration? When they can't even qualify for security clearances?5 points

Here is a Wikipedia bio of Mr. Dore. Like Donald Trump, I just put it out there and let others decide. Unlike Donald Trump, if asked, I will take a position and not pretend I don’t know anything while spreading information or potential mis-information (IMO this guy is not credible). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Dore And here is some context to the NY Post story itself and the Twitter and Facebook blocking by snopes.com, take it for what it is worth: https://www.snopes.com/news/2020/10/15/hunter-biden-laptop-giuliani/ The article was explicit about rumblings that the e-mails were forged, but did not explore it in too much depth. Still, even the sequence of events as reported by the Post in obtaining the laptop would raise many eyebrows. If this was courtroom evidence, I know a boatload of lawyers who would line up to cross examine the witness on it, lots of holes to attack in that story.4 points -

People who dismiss the mainstream media are not aware that the actual mainstream media follows codes of journalistic standards and ethics. These standards should be available to view if you are willing to look for them. Keep in mind that people like Ezra Levant have actually used the "I'm not a journalist" as a defense in libel cases. Having taken journalism in college the first rule is that if you don't have multiple sources for your story, it will not run. Distrust in media totally ignores freedom of the press and that the press in all it's legitimate forms is meant to hold those in power accountable.3 points

Nice attempt at deflection. However, the point that was being made isn’t that other news agencies aren’t mistake-prone (of course they all are to varying degrees), the point is that your source is. And your (IMO defensive) response acknowledges that your source is questionable. So be it. My question for you though is, since you have avoided the mainstream media as you yourself put it “I don’t want to continue to be misinformed” then why do you castigate them and yet give your guy a pass for his misinformed takes? Is it more-so that he fits your worldview and validates your opinions, so you see him as more credible?3 points -

I'm surprised more restrictions weren't put in place for restaurants as that seemed to be a big driver of the numbers as well. Glad they didn't change the gym restrictions- haven't heard of any connections through that type of venue.2 points -
Interesting. At Walmart, it's been compulsory since August and I would say, in my experience, that's been adhered to. But, you would still see people with them on, pushed down below their chins. Costco was 100% yesterday but we have additional measures here.2 points

A good rule of thumb for your particular source of information is have you ever seen them publicly correct or retract a story. If you have not, you can probably surmise that they are not in the journalism business, but rather the propaganda business.2 points

So the article about Trump and Christ is a really perfect example of why distrust exists and how each side can spin it to fit their preferred narrative, and dovetails nicely with Wideleft’s comments here. The headline of the article is patently false at its most basic level. Trump never said that. He tells the tale that “someone” (I hate to use absolutes as exaggeration, but it really does feel like he always drops that anonymous “people say” or “someone has told me” as his go-to source for speculative and often questionable information) said he was the most famous, he denies it and when asked to name one person who is, he says Jesus. So he is not at all saying “only Jesus is” more famous, but that Jesus is one example of a person who is more famous. And since he was only asked to name one person, it leaves open the question as to whether there are more than one or not, so the headline “spins” it in the way they want to frame the story - that Trump is an egomaniac. Which sadly they can do just as easily without the misleading or patently false headline. But it’s click bait, so their real underlying mission is accomplished. Trump backers thus get fuel for their “fake news” mantra, which does real harm to the system when an important story does come up. Trump bashers revel in another example of his hubris as a sign of his unfitness. And since it is Trump himself relaying the story, it would have been easy to point out that he is again talking about himself through the shadowy spectre of a third person to point out how famous he is perceived to be, and throws in a humble-brag when true self-deprivation would have been to follow up with “and that one person is not an exhaustive list by any means”. So read critically, folks. And even more importantly, think critically. Maybe the discussion should be “You know, Trump legitimately does have a case for being the most famous person in the world right now. So what? When did fame become the measure of a person’s worth?” The answer to that would say a lot about him, but even more about us.2 points -

No, neither was I, but I find the whole thing very odd. They were at the forefront of masks and social distancing at the beginning. I felt very safe there. The employees were all wearing masks and everything they were doing seems consistent with the most stringent guidelines. But, recently, although most were wearing masks, the customers stopped respecting social distancing. I was lined up yesterday, waiting for a cart and someone, shoving a donut into his mouth, pushed past everyone (physically touching people) to get into the store. I suppose Costco could do a better job inside the store but, geez people, get your act together!1 point

Yep no doubt but the 10 million plus paydays are now, and the mindset is now not later ,you just have to look at the players now no matter how little experience they have that demand play me or trade me. That has changed. No player of Laine 's ability is gonna be happy with second line minutes. Too much money on the table.1 point

Yeah, good thing.... Some players might actually develop. I remember when people lost their minds when Sheif wasn't get the top minutes because of his "potential" Niku has earned his spot on the Moose. Roslo has never shown he can play centre at the NHL level. Potential, sure. Everyone wants the rookies to play now, play now, play now, ignoring the fact that they need to develop to be better players. It's not "reality of modern day", players have always wanted to play more. Always.1 point

Which would make sense if the test positivity rate was low but it's not. It's over 5% and has been in Winnipeg for many days. But, they're introducing some new measures today, only a couple of weeks late. Hopefully, these new measures have an effect on the cases soon. There was snow on the ground here this morning, so we're going to be forced inside soon for more and more things.1 point

I read something from Bart Kives the other day that basically said the high numbers were a bit of a red herring, in so much as there was a huge backlog of tests, and you were just starting to see the results from days or even weeks ago, which artificially inflated the daily case numbers. I'm wondering if this daily total of 75 means that they're starting to clear up the backlog...1 point

Well, maybe throw that at the feet of employers who honestly would enslave their employees if they could get away with it. And governments talking a big game but in reality not caring as well. I blame employers & governments for allowing this to happen. Look at Trudeau, he convinced Jagmeet Singh to support his minority government if the Liberals brought in 10 days paid sick leave under EI. He knew Singh would ask for that to be added to get his support so the Liberals didn't do the right thing by just going ahead & doing it, I mean, they had six months. They made Singh look like a hero to get his support. In return, he makes Trudeau look good while the Conservatives are the sour pusses down the hallway in the next room. All show in politics. Nothing to do with what is right. Meanwhile both Trudeau & Singh smile & go, "Canadians are such suckers..."1 point -

It's sad, but if someone is working paycheque to paycheque with a part-time job (or 2) with no paid sick days, it becomes a little more easy to understand. As much as I hate when people act like heroes by coming into my white collar work environment sick, consider that COVID-19 effects the poorest among us the most. It's a matter of survival one way or the other for many.1 point
