As a Christian, you have to be well aware that God endowed us with reason among other things. Maybe just maybe vaccinations, social distancing etc are some of his tools to protect us.

I feel like it is freaky Friday and Speedflex has inhabited my body, from co-opting my “harsh reality” stance on the state of the league to the very wordy posts. I swear I have not hacked his account.

Every home game is televised for every team. The price point of tickets & concessions is so expensive that people stay home rather than go to games now. Teams have refused to lower ticket prices to sell these empty seats in every stadium across the CFL. Empty seats should represent an opportunity for increased revenues. I never understood the logic of having a seat priced at $50 or more sit empty all season. Not only is it lost ticket revenue for the team but also lost concession & merch revenue. Wouldn't it make more sense to charge $15-20 to get butts in the seats where people spend money rather than having vast sections of seats sit empty game after game?? How many hundreds of thousands to millions does each team lose per season when stadiums are at 60% or lower in capacity? Calgary has 35,000 seats but averages 23,000 per game. Edmonton has 50,000 seats but averages 26,000. The Bombers average somewhere around 26,000 in a 33,000 seat stadium. Bc Lions have the entire upper level of BC Place draped off. I won't even mention the Argos. The CFL is brutal at pricing tickets & marketing the game. Always has been. Looks like they always will be. The CFL used to pride itself on being an affordable family oriented league. That stopped in the 90's.

The Christian churches opposed vaccination when it first appeared, and even advised against lightning rods for the same reason- if God wants to kill you, you shouldn't interfere with that. This thinking is so wrong for so many reasons. As a contrast, the Dalai Lama has said that if religion conflicts with science, we ought to go with science.

Maybe some of the rich assholes who own teams should check their couch cushions.

They (and similar provincial parties) just do not understand how Canada is evolving and becoming more and more progressive every day. They're getting left so far behind and just don't seem to care. There might be enough rednecks within provinces like AB/SK that can get them elected, but nationally? If you're not at least a little bit progressive.... You're totally ******.

I have faith that God will save me!” The flood waters rose higher and higher and the man had to climb up to his rooftop. A helicopter spotted him and dropped a rope ladder. A rescue officer came down the ladder and pleaded with the man, "Grab my hand and I will pull you up!" But the man STILL refused, folding his arms tightly to his body. “No thank you! God will save me!” Shortly after, the house broke up and the floodwaters swept the man away and he drowned. When in Heaven, the man stood before God and asked, “I put all of my faith in You. Why didn’t You come and save me?” And God said, “Son, I sent you a warning. I sent you a car. I sent you a canoe. I sent you a motorboat. I sent you a helicopter. What more were you looking for?”

I just watched that podcast & thanks for the link wbbfan. The more I think about the situation, the more I'm in Dave Naylor's camp. I'd rather have football then none at all & the Bombers being a part of it. There will always be die hard CFL fans who say they'll never watch a new league with 4 down football & would rather the league die. We've read those comments on this thread here. But the demographics of these fans are older. He's right when he says younger fans prefer the 4 down game. They play Madden. They watch the NFL. How many times have you heard people say thaat the NFL is "real football"? I've always kind of scratched my head whenever I heard that statement. How is the CFL not real football? They block & tackle, run & catch just like 4 down football. So how is not real??? Yet, we CFL fans hear it all the time & it hurts when it is said as we love the CFL. We don't like it when our game is mocked. Some fans may not want to hear this but 4 downs is more popular. That's just the way it is. That fact just can't be ignored anymore. I think CFL owners know they'll lose some older fans by changing the rules but they feel that there's a potentially bigger & younger audience out there that will prefer 4 down football & grow with the teams the way I did when I first started watching the Bombers in 1965 as a 10 year old. So, they'll go with new rule changes despite the anger they'll hear. However, the reality is that when I was growing up, EVERYONE cared about the Bombers & the CFL. At elementary & high school in the 60's & 70's,, we'd talk CFL just like Dave Naylor said he did when he was a HS student. That does not exist anymore. Kids don't talk about the CFL. today. They don't wear merch. There is no CFL video game. They don't care. I wasn't depressed listening to the discussion. I appreciated Naylor's candor & honesty. He is going to piss off a a lot of people with the things he said. But people gotta hear it & face reality. Status quo will not work anymore. The pandemic has destroyed it. Just my opinion.

My wife's grandmother is a rabid Ukrainian Catholic up in Sandy Lake (south of Riding Mountain) and she's refusing the vaccine, despite all the family trying to talk her into it. Says God will protect her. Ai yi yi..... With all due respect, I just don't understand you church types....

He spent a lot of time covering Ontario university football. You don't see him much attached to the CFL because The Score and, subsequently, SportsNet are unware that there is a Canadian Football League, so they never cover it in his shows.

There is so much bullshit being disseminated out there, and not just about COVID and variants, that it is increasingly difficult to tell what is true.

You make a good point but I think the quality of qbs now coming into the league isn't as good as it was even 10-15 years ago. We're getting a lot of D2 & D3 qbs coming up here now signing with teams. They don't have the skill set of earlier starting qbs so why not develop a Canadian kid on the roster? Look at O'Connor. He could develop into a very good player in Calgary with Dave Dickenson teaching him. In 2015, I knew my son wouldn't get drafted & that the only chance he'd have would be as a free agent. The other qb I spoke of, well that's different. He was the best qb in U Sports for 2 years. There was an expectation he'd be taken in the later rounds from 5-7 in 2019. Never happened, though. How disappointing was that? Look, I was just upset with the entire process starting at the combine in Edmonton & going forward from there. That always bothered me. Then I heard Dave Naylor say these high draft picks don't care about the CFL a day or two ago. So, I was hasty when I said get rid of the ratio. I let my emotions get the best of me.

So you're willing to toss the entire ratio because Canadian QBs aren't being allowed to play QB? That's absurd. What about every other position that does get a chance and succeeds?? What about the Alex Singletons of the world who might not have got a shot without the ratio? What about Jake Thomas, who's made a good life for himself directly because of the ratio???

he's on the money on this. thing I dont like is the possibility of losing the ratio my favourite part of the cfl is having canadian players.

Apparently O'Toole was pushing for the resolution to pass. Even when they have a leader who's on board, they stay stuck in the mud.

I think there are a few of us here that could take over a CFL team as President & make better decisions than the "professionals" that have run it prior or are running teams today. From stopping the circumventing of the salary cap by over zealous GMs like Pinball Clemons to marketing teams & the game in each individual city, from ticket prices to name changes. Teams need to hire "Capologists". All they do is monitor the salary cap all season long. They would also have the authority to put the brakes on a GM spending too much.

Yeah I don't know what the prices are in winnipeg but calgary has stupid pricing.

This party wants to be taken seriously. I remember speaking with the CPC candidate in my riding last time, who. I personally like, and said I couldn't vote for her or her party because they didn't believe in climate change and didn't have a plan to address it. She tried to convince me that their non-plan was a better plan. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've developed a really bad nasal infection in the past couple of days. It really started bothering me Thursday afternoon at work while wearing a mask. Every time I had to adjust it on my face, the bridge of my nose hurt like hell. I went to an emergency clinic Thursday night & got some antibiotics. They also gave me a Covid test for which I tested negative. But man, my nose feels like it's broken even though it isn't. With the infection, it hurts just to touch it. Hopefully the antibiotics kick in the next day or so. I was concerned as every Grade 9 student at one of the schools I drive for have been put on isolation/at home computer learning & won't return until after Spring Break in early April.

I know I shouldn't have, but I went off on a guy in Superstore. Him and his 20 something daughter were walking around no mask, no space with other shoppers and I just lost it. Then he said he didn't have to worry about Covid because Jesus was his salvation. That really put me over the top. It got a bit ugly. I must be getting Covid fatigue to get sucked into that. Hurry up vaccines . ( I'm getting close )

If the XFL wants to be truly unique, they should adopt our rules..all of them..with adaptions for field sizes. Could they handle it? The only caveat is that only the CFL teams play for the Grey Cup. They can play for their own. Other than that, let’s wrap up the CFL, and give it a proper send away, not part of another failed US attempt at being professional. Then we simply set up a lower level Canadian game..

I will fight anyone that claims the CFL rules are inferior. And quite frankly I can't see myself caring anywhere close to as much about a 4 down CFL.

Hello fellow CFL Fans, As many of you have now heard, the CFL has been in talks with the XFL due to their dire situation and obviously is in desperate need of help. I am sure many of you have also received the "Wishing I were there" postcards mailed out by the federal government. The idea of the campaign is to allow Canadians to reconnect with each other and provide a message to people we cannot see due to the going pandemic. I suggest instead we send those postcards back to Parliament Hill, with messages of support for the Canadian Football League. Now, I don't know if doing this will necessarily help the league, but I feel that if we can get enough Canadians behind this, it could help when/if the league does re-approach the federal government for funding. More importantly - to you other posters... what are the other CFL team sites that we can try to spread this initiative on? Personally if the CFL goes to 4 downs I'll stop watching. I much prefer the 3 down game. If that stops I'll resort to watching the NFL.

My parents and Grandparents will all have it by end of next week. Its a relief. My parents had the local pharmacy call them and say they could get the AstraZeneca and would be able to do their shots their. Both just under 65 but both have underlying conditions that would leave them vulnerable so were one of the first people the pharmacy called.

In Alberta, today was the first day my age group (65) could book. My vaccination appointment is for March 31st.

Just because the XFL has a billion dollar hedge fund behind it doesn't mean they have unlimited capital. I guarantee that they have a dollar figure amount they are willing to lose and it isn't anywhere close to what some people here think it is. The XFL has no franchises per se, and will have a very limited rope on losses before their backers pull out. Just like XFL 1.0, AAF, XFL 2.0. the USFL and all the other defunct leagues littered amongst the football landscape. It's a business and anyone thinking the XFL is going to give us the 60 million dollars to operate based on some good will is dreaming in technicolor. They are talking to us because they NEED us, they NEED our viability and history as a league to differentiate themselves from every other failure league that came before. SMH, at those that think the XFL will save us. Good lord....it's the other way around and we will charge them a hefty fee for doing so and we hold all the leverage.
