For me being fiscally conservative means being fiscally responsible. Keeping deficits low/nil when not in a crisis. Using science and research to fund social programming. Using deficit spending to keep the economy moving. Finding a balance between taxation and growth.7 points

I always thought Gary Doer was a good example of fiscally responsible and socially left. There was a good reason Harper sent him off to be the US ambassador . I think he scared the hell out of him. If the Federal Libs had got a hold of him he would have been tough to defeat.5 points -

My theory on UBI is it is an absolute must. Robotics ( or whatever term you choose ) is ending jobs worldwide. The answer to that has always been " but it opens high tech jobs ". Those jobs will dwindle as well as our technology begins to both repair and develop itself. And thats here. It is one of the main reasons that the very, very rich are increasing their wealth. At a unprecedented rate. It no longer trickles down and the tap is getting shut off. Alot of our current social unrest both left and right can be attributed to this. Fair and equitable taxation for Corps, rich and Joe shmoe and UBI can solve or perhaps halt some of the ugliness we are seeing. Or we continue on as we are and tailspin to oblivion.4 points -
Bingo. I consider myself fiscally conservative, and socially liberal.....likely somewhere just left of Centre, on the political spectrum......and JCon explained perfectly how I generally feel.4 points

Eventually, the Oilers will win the SC with McDavid. Even an org as incompetent and undeserving as they are, McDavid will drag them to a championship. It's why they're loathed so much. So undeserving.4 points -

Just how much do the 'Riders suck? The longest period of time a single team has been Grey Cup Champions is 1841 days,, this was the 1915 Hamilton Ti-Cats. They won it on November 20, 1915, and the trophy wasn't rewarded again until December 4, 1920 due to WW1 and the global flu pandemic at the time. By comparison, in their entire existence, the Roughriders have been champs for only 1470 days (1966 - 371 days , 1989 - 364 days, 2007 - 364 days and 2013 - 371 days TLDR; A lot.3 points -

Think Jean Chretien and Paul Martin . They worked hard and succeeded reducing a debt built by Pierre T. Caring for people doesn't necessarily equate with throwing money at whatever makes you popular. That's it ! Interestingly there is a conversation on CJOB about being a " political orphan." Which is a good way to describe it.2 points -

It shouldn't, which is why those guys are or at least should be the focus for the players. Executives don't fall under the football ops salary cap so unless they also volunteer to take a paycut, I think this proposal is D.O.A.1 point

Today on Facebook, the PCs and/or O'Toole posted about the importance of Canadians keeping their guns. I was stunned that such a brain-dead posting would be made so soon after the killings in the US. The lack of sensitivity and common sense says a lot about the 2021 Conservatives.1 point

It's been well documented that most coaches already have taken a cut. The focus, from player responses I've seen, seems to be more on if GM's and Team Presidents are going to take a cut as well.1 point

"The federal government says it does not believe COVID-19 vaccine shipments to Canada would be affected by export restrictions being considered by the European Union. A report in the New York Times says the EU is finalizing emergency legislation that would give it broad powers to curb exports of COVID-19 vaccines for the next six weeks, as part of its response to supply shortages at home. The report says that would make it harder for pharmaceutical companies producing COVID-19 vaccines in the EU to export them. In an emailed statement, the press secretary for Mary Ng, minister of small business, export promotion and international trade, said Ng's counterparts have assured her that these measures will not affect vaccine shipments to Canada." https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/vaccine-shipments-canada-eu-1.59618881 point -

This is reassuring: "Last week, Manitoba announced it was piloting a new model at its supersites in Morden and Winnipeg, which it said will streamline delivery by having patients sit in one area while immunizers move between them. On Wednesday, task force members said the new model will increase the number of doses each immunizer can deliver from between six and eight per hour to around 60."1 point -
In that case i dont see a problem. Every CBA negotiation PA's talk about wanting a partnership and to have their stake scale with growth. In times like these the hair cut should be across the board as well. Im sure not all players would get that 20% back when fans came back, some would be cut etc. But 20% is not a big cut for a short term loss to prevent missing a whole other season of football and salaries. I also feel like in our stadium we could socially distance 10k people. Leaving would be a bit of an issue, but if you taper exits and have people guided through to different exits I think it could work OK. I know plenty of people who would pay a premium even to bein the 10k (my self included)1 point

not sure about MB, but with variants raging out of control in AB, the Minister of Health (a real ******* moron, but that's neither here nor there...) said the other day that half of all hospitalizations are people under 65, and nearly 80% of ICUs are under 65..... the variants are attacking "younger" populations hard. The 3rd wave that we're seeing develop is going to decimate a "younger" population much worse than we saw with the initial strain...1 point

you mean like this ? Mincome, the "Manitoba Basic Annual Income Experiment", was a Canadian Guaranteed Annual Income (GAI) social experiment conducted in Manitoba in the 1970s. The project was funded jointly by the Manitoba provincial government and the Canadian federal government under Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. It was launched with a news release on February 22, 1974, under the New Democratic Party of Manitoba government of Edward Schreyer, and was closed down in 1979 under the Progressive Conservative of Manitoba government of Sterling Lyon and the federal Progressive Conservative Party of Joe Clark.1 point

I agree. I don't really have a problem with Crosby being a whiner, though. His whining is correct, IMO. Just like the skilled players before him, he has played with so much obstruction and interference through his career, it's crazy. CMcD doesn't complain the same way but he deals with the same thing and the NHL just won't actually enforce the rules.1 point

The NRA sends million buying votes. They spend millions indoctrinating people to believe that owning an AR15 is a normal thing. It's a weapon of mass destruction. Well....there's elite talent, and then there's McJesus. The kid is a freak of nature. There's nobody even in the same realm as this guy in the league. Not being able to defend him is no real crime. There's nobody in the league that can do it effectively (the Leafs series was clearly an aberration). I have full faith that if the Jets and Oilers meet up in the North Final (certainly my hope) then the Jets are absolutely going to find a way to defend McDavid and the Oilers much better....and if we're all lucky it's a 7 game series, because that'd be an absolute dandy reminiscent of the late 80s...1 point
