what are now called Conservatives, are people who hate government, regulation, and any restriction on them. and they hate it when governemnt intervenesmto help the little folk. industrial health and safety laws. car recalls. healthcare. postal service. food inspection, water testing. yet perversely they also depend on government to save them, whenthe greed goes too far, and the system fails. and they get help. but help for anyone else, is said to be bad for the "moral fibre" socialism for the rich, unfettered capitalism for the rest. and they even hate it when the rest try to help themselves, by forming unions. whichnhave basically been battered to a pulp in North America. also, if Alberta doesnt face up to reality, they are going to suffer badly. in the near future. energy transition is not stopping for them.4 points

The Wheat Board was effective because it was a monopoly. The cons used legislation to break the monopoly, thus ending the WB. The plebiscite was a farce. Conservatives didn't abolish the WB, they broke it. In turn it became unsustainable and thus was sold off. The Cons were 100% the reason for the WB breaking up. They brought in Ian WHite for a reason.3 points -

57 total cases on more than 2000 tests is reason for hope....but things are fluctuating a lot. And the variants are within the province, so there's not much you can do now. They're going to keep spreading until enough people are vaccinated.2 points -

Stastny with a huge PP goal. Flames make it close but a nice punch to Tkachuk’s head by DeMelo on a scramble and we get 2 clean points.2 points -

2021 Season

I'm beating a dead horse here but the CFL has made its own bed. How long have the fans been screaming for more information? We want to know who's on the neg list but for years they wouldn't tell us who's on it. Why? Finally, they open up 10 names. A joke. We want to more about salaries and cap management but they never tell us. Why? It's some sort of secret despite every other pro league manages to get that info out. Gambling is a big deal and all major sports leagues get that but not the CFL. There's money out there to be made. There is a large demographic of fans being ignored because the CFL won't give us the information that every other league provides.2 points -
MLS pulls in less than his estimate, with 27 teams while being the top soccer league in north america and the most popular kids sport in north america. I dont see any chance of the CFL game beating mls in terms of us TV draw.2 points

I have trouble buying that when the CFL has little US tv draw and the XFLs previous deal was worth 0 dollars. At this point I need to see some proof of concept from the XFL before believing much of any thing.2 points

US Politics
Bigblue204 reacted to Tracker for a topic
Fascism has been a factor in American politics for a very long time and it is tied into their racism. It was no accident that Nazis held huge rallies in the US in the 30's, and even had very active "Hitler Youth" organizations. Trump's father was a supporter of the Nazi party, so was Charles Lindbergh, Henry Ford and so forth. The support resulted in an attempted coup against Roosevelt but was only derailed when the general in charge of the US Marine Corps had an attack of conscience and reported it. Many of America's wealthiest families were involved. I am not sure of the accuracy of this but at one time I read that over a third of all white Americans had German ancestry.1 point -

One of the issues with having the farmers decide was that there is a huge amount of older farmers who aren't actively engaged in farming but are still technically farmers and permit holders. Most of them were pro wheat board. And dont forget , the Conservatives didn't abolish the Wheat Board. They just allowed farmers the option of marketing wheat and barley on their own like the rest of their crops. This issue is one that alot of people had opinions on because of the propaganda put out by BOTH sides. Alot of disinformation. Alot of misunderstanding by people who really had no understanding of the issues or had any hand in the game.. As far as farmers it was a real split down the middle. I had my own farm at the time and worked for my neighbor. He was %100 anti Wheat Board.. Hated it. He figured he lost 30,000 one year because of the wheat board. I also had a neighbor on the other side that was % 100 Pro board. If you want to pick something Harper screwed up on the Wheat Board probably isn't the one. Despite what non farmers in the city were led to believe. As I said previously I had cattle and sold hay so I had no dog in the race. I suspect if actual farmers had got to vote and not just permit holders it probably would have went open market. It certainly would today if it happened1 point -

Yes, Harper dealt with the Wheat Board the same way he dealt with most everything else... But the writing was on the well, no matter who pulled the plug. How is an entity going to continue helping the small farmer when said entity is not adapting to major shifts in the market? More people eating gluten free = less wheat Demand for canola = less wheat Growing corn and soy with increasing success on the prairies = less wheat A demand for high quality oats = less wheat The CWB was beyond pros and cons - it was rapidly becoming irrelevant.1 point -

There were pros and cons to the the Wheat Board- the main thing was that teh cons came in and dictated what was going to happen to it. I feel it should have been left up to the farmers to do away or keep it. I think what's left of the WB is now owned by a Saudi corp...1 point -

The variant B117 is really starting to ramp up in terms of cases, looking West is seems like is was a good idea for the MB Gov to not loosen restrictions, more vaccines coming into Canada next week and next month so we need to get those into the arms as soon as possible cause this variant is close to getting out of control1 point -

it's ******* scary, no matter how you slice it, and you absolutely do not want any part of it. Stay home unless you absolutely HAVE to be out and avoid contact with as many people as possible. In AB, where we're a giant tire fire, I am really wishing for another "lock down" (meh) until June, when a lot more people are vaccinated. Things could get really really bad over the next two months if they don't do something...1 point -
