    Game 38 : Toronto

Toronto media has been on overdrive today trying to figure out how the Laffs match up against the other divisions now that they've eliminated the Jets and won the North.

  4. I'm hoping for the best but bracing for the worst. I am so unbelievably grateful that the Bombers won the big one last season. I shudder to imagine that it was almost possible that I never got to see them win a Grey Cup. I've been a fan since I was eight years old but in 1990 I was only 5 and didn't know or care about pro sports. Thank God we won in 2019! I hope my feelings of dread turn out to be unfounded but right now I am terrified that I am going to lose the hobby that is nearest and dearest to me (CFL and in particular Blue Bomber football).

Honestly, how ******* exciting is it going to be just to have SOME kinda CFL stuff on TV??? I'll take it...

  8. I really feel like Naylor has been a typical Toronto attitude throughout this. Very "nobody cares about the CFL, so we have to do this in order to make people care", except that it's really a Toronto-only attitude. I saw a thing from Duthie this morning talking about how there's really two modes of thinking about the potential merger: The Toronto view, and Everyone Else....

You can see the Stanley Cup in downtown Toronto, at the Hall of Fame. It's a neat relic from the olden days.

  10. Pretty sure. I mean I am pretty sure the NHL exists outside of Toronto. I mean the Stanley Cup hasn't been seen there in over 50 years so somebody must have won it.

People in their 40s dying...man oh man. The further we get into this, with older generations being vaccinated, we're seeing younger and younger people being greatly affected by this virus. Absolutely terrifying...

The original CSI was fantastic and could of went on longer had they moved away from the dramatic over the top storylines that involved each of the cast members and went back on focusing on the science and cases. It only got real bad when each week one of the members of the unit would be kidnapped or somehow get involved personally in each case. Similar to Criminal Minds it made the show jump the shark when it became to cheese.

The education review will erode some of the PC's rural support. Ridings like Gimli, Selkirk, and Interlake have gone NDP in the past - there is plenty of animosity swirling right now, as it appears that smaller schools were not even considered. And if they were, the information is not forthcoming. The whole things is looking more and more like just one huge swipe at the metro divisions and the teachers' union.

  20. I'd love to see this. Then bring back Chris Walby dressed in an undersized old school blue CBC jacket with his signature fingers wrapped around a CFL microphone.

  21. One thing that a merger (or whatever it is) will do, will be to introduce alternate media coverage. I think TSN has been a good partner for the CFL; however, I do not think the exclusive relationship has produced the best possible situation. The competition in the US, over the NFL, has created better and better broadcasts and coverage. I don't think we've benefitted from that up here without competition. I think TSN could use some competition!

  25. C'mon Frosty. Yes the Jets should have won that game, but it's L1 . (thanks for doing this btw) . I hope we send Laff Nation crying on Friday.

  26. The part I always enjoy is when they have former coaches on providing their analysis of the game at hand. I really liked when they had on Lapo and Benevides going at each other from an offensive and defensive perspective and how they would try to counter each other using the specifics of the game to argue what adjustments need to happen. Very entertaining imo.

  29. https://3downnation.com/2021/03/31/matt-sekeres-reporting-on-potential-cfl-xfl-partnership-has-been-insufficient-so-far/ Pretty on point. That said no one from TSN to 3downnation is really breaking any stories. They make wild claims, some contradictory and offer nothing of substance. They just seem to be vying for clicks and doing the bare minimum to get the traffic.

    2021 CFL Entry Draft

chuba hubbard with a blazing 4.36 40 time at his pro day. Cant stop thinking how great he'd look in blue n gold in the post harris era but I dont think he ever falls out of the nfl. He was fully adequate as a starter which is far better than most rookies especially true rookies are. But the situation was not the same.

I see Gable retired. Another victim of Covid19 likely. Good for him on his career though. I remember seeing a lot of talk online about "more" players going this route and was worried for a bit. But I honestly haven't seen anyone retire who is a really big loss. (yet).

  33. I've no issue with the TSN panel but I sure do with their broadcast crews. Now with Chris Cuthbert gone they haven't one outstanding broadcaster in the bunch. They're all terrible to me. That's the problem with TSN. They could do so much more to attract younger viewers but they don't want to. They have the same people doing the games. The broadcasts are the same. Nothing changes because they don't have to change without competition. TSN thinks TNF is somehow cool showing rotten Canadian bands at halftime. The broadcasts are not cool.
    1 point
  34. I don't buy any of this stuff about the TSN panel. You need former players who are young enough to not seem super old, but old enough to have played the game at a high level and therefore have expertise. And on top of that, they need to be good speakers... Good communicators. Exactly how long a list do you think it is that checks off those boxes?? Trust me, it's a short list.

    2021 CFL Entry Draft

that's kinda where I was coming from in saying that the jury is still very much out on Gray.... we've had others that showed more, faster. Now, having said that, I certainly understand that OL usually take longer and you don't wanna rush a guy. We've always said that Gray LOOKED the part of a "Young Walby", and we all know that Walby took a long time to develop, as well, but ended up playing a very long time. So, if we're patient, hopefully DG can develop into a long time stud as CW did...

    CFL/XFL Exploring Alignment

They did a poor job at the end.
    1 point
  44. I've been saying that for years. The CBC would be a natural choice for the CFL as they've lost the NHL.
    1 point
  45. The CFL needs to honour bonuses. Our idiot Commissioner seems to think that they aren't important. He made sure players didn't get paid these bonuses during the last CBA negotiations. And teams cut veterans days before a bonus is due. Bite the bullet & pay it for crissakes. Get rid of the 1 year deals & UFA. Only players with a certain number of years in as players & when they reach a certain age get to become UFA's,
    1 point
  46. The only way to stop these deals is to completely disallow them & go to restricted free agency. The league is going down because the owners & players are ******* morons. Take care of your fans first. Make them feel engaged again & let them get to know their players like they used to. Stop trying to please some hot shot rookie running back from Arkansas who has NFL dreams only. **** him if he doesn't want to sign a two or 3 year deal. And **** players like Henoc Muamba that could care less if they play on a winner or a loser as long as they get the money they want. Guys like Adam Bighill sacrificed while Muamba wants more. The CFL can continue to be run badly or make painful & hard decisions on player movements. If the players don't like it then they can retire. That's my take anyway.
    1 point
  47. We just can't match the money that they can make down south. I wish we could find a way to allow them opportunities and still give them multi-year deals. But, I can't blame the players for wanting these deals. All deals are effectively one-year deals to the teams, anyhow. The players need some leverage.

    2021 Season

We didn't, so having the US below us doesn't mean squat. We could have emulated Australia or New Zealand or any other country that locked down tight for long enough. Heck, we could have emulated Japan and made sure that everyone wore masks, stayed 1 meter apart, made businesses install forehead heat sensors at their doors and not let anyone in who ran a temp. It worked for them. Instead, we let the politicians make wrong decision after wrong decision. Open up, close down, open up, close down. Call non-essential businesses essential. Let folks walk around without masks, instead of no mask, here's your ticket. Let religious gatherings happen without any repercussions. In Alberta, we even went as far as to ticket people and throw one or two of them in jail, only to let them go without even paying a fine. They're now talking about spending millions of dollars on advertising to get people to get the vaccines instead of no vaccine, no entry. They don't even want people to have to have vaccine cards to prove they've been vaccinated in case it stigmatizes those who choose not to. All this means we don't get back to normal, likely for years.
