    NHL trade deadline 2021

Me: I don't want Chevy to mortgage the future on some depth D that probably won't work out. Also me: I'm bored, Do something, Chevy!

  4. Well, time to fire Maurice and Chevy. TSN just declared that the Jets “could have gone a long way” but just gave up on the season by not trading away a first and Heinola and Perfetti for a 10 game rental defenceman who will mess up their expansion draft plans as well. I would have been happy to see Oleksaik here, but I am betting he was either not really available as Dallas takes a run, or the price was ridiculously too high. Not that the cost matters to the talking heads at TSN who need filler.

Ex-Australian PM: Murdoch and Trump Did Putin’s Job For Him Australia’s ex-prime minister, Malcom Turnbull, has long accused Rupert Murdoch of bringing his prime ministership down—and, at a parliamentary hearing on Monday, it was very clear that he’s out for revenge. Turnbull, a former journalist who has known Murdoch for over four decades, delivered a furious takedown of one of his country’s most notorious sons during Monday’s evidence session. He accused Murdoch of doing more to divide America than Vladimir Putin, and blamed his media empire for causing the presidency of Donald Trump as well as the Capitol riot that marked the disgraceful climax of his time in power. “What does Vladimir Putin want to do with his operations in America? He wants to divide America and turn Americans against each other,” said the ex-prime minister, who first met Murdoch in 1974. “That is exactly what Murdoch has done: divided Americans against each other and so undermined their faith in political institutions that a mob of thousands of people, many of them armed, stormed the Capitol.” Strong words from Malcolm Turnbull about Murdoch's attacks on Australian Muslims. He says Murdoch is "essentially doing the work of the terrorists" by reinforcing their message that Muslims aren't accepted in our society. The former Australian PM was invited to give evidence to the inquiry that was launched after a petition calling for a probe into Murdoch’s media empire was signed by half a million Australians. Turnbull is the second former prime minister to rip into Murdoch in front of the inquiry.

  11. I can give their blue collar fans (not the suits who actually go and sit on their hands at a game in the high priced seats) a pass for the most part. But the media does get them riled up more than they have a right to be. Meanwhile, I’ll just leave this guilty pleasure right here:
    3 points
  12. Yeah, I would love for them to add a top-4 d but not at the prices quoted. No first rounder, please. Plus, I don't think that there is really enough time to bring in a d and have them settle. It's too late in the season, especially after a 7 day quarantine. I don't want them giving up anyone like Samberg or Heinola. They've been playing in the AHL, getting accustomed to the speed and physicality of the pro game. Get them up and let them play. Niku can go but he has little value on the market.
    3 points
  13. Yep. People are trying to give him a pass because the pandemic isnt his fault. which of course it isnt. But how the league has dealt with business during the pandemic has been awful. From the utter lack of communication with the PA, to the poorly thought out and worse executed attempt to get federal funding (which shouldve been a slam dunk) to the nothing burger of an announcement that the XFL and the CFL were going to work together. No matter what side of any issue you fall on as a CFL fan I think you have to want these things to be open and transparent once announced. To pop out this vague news and then go dark only serves as a disservice for the league. The fan base is more divided now then ive ever seen it. Fans dont feel secure in the time, interest and money we invest into the league. The longer this un certainty draws out the worse it gets. People were scared of losing canadian football at the out set of this. That wave is starting to die down now. The next step is people fleeding fandom for apathy. The next step and announcements must be very carefully thought out and planned. If they dont shake this negativity, seeping in apathy, and distrust it wont matter what moves are made with financing or the XFL.

    Covid-19

there was lots of chatter on #COVID19MB today about Roussin talking about how they're seeing spread via house parties, kids sleepovers, and other in-house gatherings which are strictly banned right now. Just insane to me that people can't hold on a couple more months...

  18. Can hear TSN now, who have been begging the Jets to make a move all day - “Well, it’s a move but they still did not do enough” (and I say this not knowing who they got).

    Game 42: @Ottawa

I think he is learning how big he is. His first fight was just a “yeah, it’s time to inject that into a game” but the Corey Perry non-tilt was him stepping up for a teammate and knowing what role he can provide. And Perry’s timid reaction had to embolden him to realize how imposing he is becoming.

    Covid-19

not sure what Roussin has said for you guys, but our CMOH in AB has talked a lot about wearing masks outdoors now because they're discovering more and more variant transmission outdoors. It's very airborne and not just droplets, as with the original strain. I've taken to wearing a single reusable mask outdoors, and I double mask (with a disposable as base layer) when I go into a business (which is extremely limited for me...groceries once a week on Sundays)

  27. I'm pretty much on point with you on this. The Jets D prospects are looking great and the ask is way too high to land a top-4. Niku is a pot-sweetener at this point too, and I suspect Chevy will swing a deal with Seattle with Niku added to that mix so the Jets roster is unscathed come expansion draft time
    2 points
  28. This is the way. Leafs are a fun team to watch lately (unless it's against the Jets). But that's where the praise ends. Their fans and the media (by and large TSN and SN) are the epitome of insufferable.

This demonstrates it is feasible and it’s commercially ready.” https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jan/19/electric-car-batteries-race-ahead-with-five-minute-charging-times

The Benn move is a kind of a yawner....gave up practically nothing.....for not much.... Benn has experience and he's insurance in case someone goes down is what I see...Pretty much a nothing day on the trade front...Lot's of excitement on the Toranna Shill Network though, for their already anointed local Cup team

  38. Tree fiddy? Were you trying to type Perfetti and got autocorrected? Time’s up (save for the late faxes into the NHL head office). Only 9 trades today. Have to think COVID quarantine and the looming Seattle expansion draft played big factors, although the early buyers’ demands were too much out of whack (Nashville wanting a first rounder, elite prospect and current player for Ekholm seems more and more ridiculous with every passing minute).

    CFL/XFL Exploring Alignment

The Liberals don't care about the CFL. They just don't but they do care about things like heritage that makes them sound good and caring. No one wants to be the gov't that helped take down the CFL, even if they don't care. It's bad, bad optics. That's why, if you can come with a plan, they'll probably accept it. Eventually, the plan won't work out and the gov't will need to write off the debt. But, for now, we would have football. Another problem we have is that they don't like to support professional sports. Getting money out of the Feds for sports that are recreational or professional is very, very challenging. Stuff like Canada Summer Games, which has a funding formula, is pretty easy, relative to the pros. There's not really a department for it. They'll support the Canada Games but not the World Police and Fire Games. And, yes, I know that there are lots of examples of where the Feds have ponied up money for the pros but, unless, Quebec suddenly falls in love with the CFL or they make a darn good pitch, don't expect Fed money.

  41. Morneau's resignation & the We scandal contributed greatly to the decision that the CFL shouldn't get any money. Ambrosie was behind the 8 ball to begin with because of the circumstances but to turn away help from a member of the government was just stupid & arrogant.
