Covid-19

I instruct a martial arts class 2 x a week. My adults have bailed for now so I have a bunch of kids left. We are mask on before entry and the kids don't balk at all. I work them pretty hard at times and you can tell they get pretty heated but they are fine with it. Occasionally a kid will have a naked nose but I just tell them to pull it up. They are tougher than all these whining anti- maskers and they are just a bunch of kids. It makes it hard for me to deal with the whiners.7 points -
I'm going to be coaching my kid's softball team and I've already put in the email to the parents that masks will be mandatory at all times on my team (even though the return to play and public health rules allow them to now wear them in the field). If a kid or parent has an issue with that, then they don't have to be on my team.5 points

People haven't been adhering to the restrictions the last few months and they wont follow these ones either, as this point people getting vaccinated is the only way that will get us back to a new normal what ever that will be.5 points -

The new restrictions are dumb. No visitors to your own house, but everything else is basically the same. Having someone over for a backyard fire = bad. Going to a gym that is 25% full = fine, apparently. Half measures basically guarantee we prolong this wave until more restrictions get added in a couple weeks.5 points -
There was plenty of time to do something about this before it got to the size it did. The lack of proactive enforcement is just disturbing. There should have been a team of people that greeted Chris Sky at the airport and escorted him to an isolation facility. There could have been a couple cruisers on the lawn at The Forks broadcasting the message that it was an illegal gathering and to disperse or be ticketed. Child and Family Services should have been on site handing out notices to parents that their parental competency was not under official review. I have been very quiet and purposely not criticized the experts as I know they have information we don't. I can no longer sit here and watch people destroy what chance we had at a normal summer.5 points

They should start off today's press conference by listing the names and addresses of everyone that attended the Forks rally yesterday. Then after they've announced the new restrictions they can say "If you want to complain about this, go see those people".5 points

Back on topic, Our Man Tait has another really great "First And 10" at BB.com... https://www.bluebombers.com/2021/04/25/first-10-jeffcoat-neufeld-optimistic-hopeful/ This but in particular is worth checking out the whole piece... A couple of leftovers from Bombers President and CEO Wade Miller from my interview with him earlier in the week. First, I asked him about the suggestion the CFL should just go dark for another year and simply regroup for 2022. There was a pause before he answered, and when he did there was a sense that, if he could, he would have reached out and slapped me upside the head for even bringing that up. “That,” he said, “is NOT an option. We’re playing football and we need to play football. We need to play football for our players, our coaches and our fans.”5 points

The restrictions make it clear the economy is held above all else including family connections and mental & physical health. Increasing restrictions does not bother me personally much. Due to having a newborn and an autoimmune condition, my family has held ourselves to more restrictive standards than governmental restrictions for the past year. Its sucked, but hopefully it will change soon. It would be nice if the restrictions made sense and showed compassion for anything other than the almighty dollar. Its also really unfortunate about the idiots at the rallies and nothing being done about enforcement. They should all be fined with the fine going to support small businesses. They claim their rally is to support small businesses, so they should happily pay the fine.4 points -

There are more tragedies that most likely never came to light after that war....Your friends father sounds like a repeat of mine.....Post war my dad worked for the federal govt. ran a dept. in the Unemployment Insurance office in Wpg. for years until the booze finally caught up....Our family really took a hit and ended up in emergency housing (Flora Place) when I was a kid....It was tough for my brothers and sisters to come out of that but we managed....It was easy to feel sorry for ourselves but we didn't...It's tough for me to even talk about those days and I can imagine what some families are going through now with this pandemic...Losing everything is tough but we keep on going...Hard life lessons are being learned now....BUT it well end....as that war did, and like I said before life goes on...................Back to football3 points -
The demonstration at the Forks wasn't so big that it couldn't have been controlled. All the police would have had to do was "kettle" them and let them out one at a time while they handed out citations and arrested the nut from Saskatchewan. I suspect that if it had been an ANTIFA demonstration the response would have been much different.3 points

To validate what some have shared here: the father of a good friend served on the bomber crew that flew the most missions over Germany in WW2. Every one of the air crew turned to alcohol to anesthetize the memories and associated feelings and this produced a horrible childhood for my friend and his siblings all of whom succumbed to addiction as well. They were the walking wounded and far from few.2 points -
They could have started on Sunday. Triple the fines for those traveling and not self-isolating. Quadruple them. And, yes, I'm sensitive to those that are poor. But, if you're traveling out of the province or country, you know before you go what the deal is.2 points

That is great to here. Early last week Dr Joss Reimer was tweeting that they still had appointments for that same afternoon, pleading for people to call and make appointment. I am greatly embarrassed to be from Winnipeg for the first time in many many years. I like the enthusiasm and public shaming may be the answer but for these idiots they would wear it as a badge of pride. Oh how I wish that somoene started a grass fire and the fire department had to show up and hose the all down...2 points

He's a goofball. Went on Joe Rogan and smoked weed, making himself a meme in the process. More recently he defiantly kept Tesla factories open despite lockdown orders and tried to cover up the eventual outbreak. Americans were scraping by on a single stimulus cheque for weeks on end and he's out here blowing up $50mil spaceships. He's just your average billionaire with a robot car company and spaceships that does cameos on Big Bang and Rick & Morty2 points -

We may have been in a slightly better place as there would have been tighter restrictions. Every time we saw the numbers go down it was BOOM!! let's reopen as Kenney was under so much pressure to do so & we did. We then watched the numbers go up. Every freaking time. Notley has a tight grip on her party. There'd have been no discord from disgruntled MLA's. All schools would be closed now if she was in power. Twenty five per cent of all schools in Alberta have outbreaks. Think of that, twenty five per cent! Yet elementary schools stay open. As I said before, glad I'm on an extended medical leave & not driving a school bus anymore this school year.2 points -

Governments have the right to order you to go to France Live in a trench up to your knees in fetid water, surrounded by dead comrades and horses and crawling with millions of rats while constantly being pounded by artillery . Then climb out of that muck hole and run straight at a machine gun. But apparently in the mind of some they can't make you wear a mask or get a little prick in the arm. My great uncle that died like that, and my other great uncle that lived like that at 14 years old would have something to say to them. As would my uncle who burned to death in a bomber 25 years later. Yet we have all these people who think wearing a mask to to big of a sacrifice to make. It makes me sick.2 points -

The Public Health Order and Return to Play guidelines say that masks are required when the kids are on the bench, but not when they are on the field. I figure that having to remind them every time they come off the field to put their masks on creates more chaos and I don't want to have to be constantly watching for it on top of trying to coach. I play Ultimate as well, fingers crossed that there is a season this summer. If there is, I will be wearing my mask all the time for that too even though it's only required on the sideline.1 point

My take too. I don't know why people seem to think he HAS to be brilliant in every aspect of life. He's obviously next level smart. Is he an expert in virology? No...so should anyone take his opinion on it as gospel? Also no. But the twitter universe demands weird things of people at times. I have no issue with him honestly, but I do find it funny when people call him an idiot.1 point -
