As a residential school survivor I will share my opinion. There really is no way of making reparations for this sad chapter. It must be acknowledged, remembered, but MOST importantly the effects it has had on native society must be understood. Generations separated from parents and community has had a massive trickle down effect to today. Native children having children today have no parental modelling to learn from because their parents and even grand parents don't even know how to role model for their children because they were never taught how. If the government of Canada wants to start making reparations then start in the present by overhauling CFS so that it becomes proactive instead of reactive. Bring back parental guidance and supports so that the new generations can learn how to teach their own children morals, and values and what it takes to be a responsible parent. Start by giving aboriginals a hand up, not a hand out. Create industry on reserves so that there is meaningful employment. The lazy Indian myth only persists to this day because the government stuck our people in the middle of nowhere with no prospect for employment. Start by fixing the water and housing crisis plaguing every reserve. Start by allowing first nations people to actually own the land and house they live on/in so that they may start building wealth. Start by forcing native leadership to produce financial statements to their people so that there is transparency. I could rattle off a hundred more things.....but I'll leave you with those to chew on for a bit.6 points

My 8 yr old is doing okay, his parents... It definitely is harder on us than last year. There is much more structured learning and takes more effort from both of us to make it happen. My wife has been WFH since last March but that doesn't allow her much time to supervise his learning. I have returned to WFH 4 out of 5 days a week to try and help wit his learning but my work is suffering and all of us need a mental health break. 8 year old needs to see his friends and have interaction that isn't a screen and parents need to see some other walls and talk to other people. Seeing some mountains or the ocean would do wonders for us.5 points

Total **** show. Want this over and was really disappointed they didn't send K-6 back. They are getting very little actual learning out of this compared to the stress it is putting on everyone, least of all us the parents who are also trying to work during the day. My kids are 10 and 8 by the way. Also, helpful hint to all you Facebook or Instagram heroes on my feed that post perfectly staged smiling happy photos of everyone after just another swell day of remote learning. **** you. Joking of course. (sort of) For real though, SeeSaw notifications actually cause me physical harm at this point.3 points -
I hear you on the parents needing to talk to other people. My wife and I were talking across the street to our neighbor the other day and when we came back in the house we both said something like "wow, that was really nice to talk to people in person"3 points

First off... I was no fan of the Selinger government... but having the dubious distinction of have the WORST PER CAPITA RATE OF NEW COVID INFECTIONS, NORTH OF THE MEXICAN BORDER is something I feel the previous government would have avoided- thats just me. Also, those changes, sorry cuts, to the ICU bed numbers and closing emergency rooms across the city... wouldn't have happened and would not have exacerbated the strain on our healthcare system... /rant. 100% clean. Puss league. Get your ******* head up, it's playoffs. 0 head contact. Hit of the year but it's being vilified due to scenario. If he pops up it's on the highlight reel. 0 fine, 0 games. A nobody #6 d-man like Edmondson saying something public doesn't change the fact. Shoulder into chest moments within puck on stick. Hit of the playoffs. Get off the track.3 points -

So, schools are remote for the rest of the year in Winnipeg, Brandon and a few other places. To the parents out there, how are your kids coping with this year's remote learning? My boys (11 and 7) are not doing well. The youngest has challenges staying focused, engaged and on task. It's been terrible. My oldest is fine but I fear he's not learning much. This year is so much worse.2 points -
there's no question it was charging and it'll be a suspension, but it won't be nearly as much as some would like to see. I still say 2 games is the punishment.2 points

I didn’t spot the incident but early in the game Perry or someone did something to 55 and he was pissed. His eyes got crazier and crazier as the night went on. Maurice has to notice that his player has changed and do something to bring him back down. That expression on Schielf’s face after the hit tells me he was proud of that hit in the moment. Dude doesn’t deserve to play again this year.2 points -

This is a very big fish they are looking to reel in. Dejoy has money and power, thus would be able to exploit any weaknesses in indictments, so they must be careful and thorough. Moreover, the GOPers will scream "witch hunt" and "personal vendetta". ALL the tees have to be crossed and ALL the I's must be dotted. 'He's a madman': Conservative confirms Trump believes the 'delusion' he will be reinstalled as president Earlier this week, the New York Times' Maggie Haberman reported that Donald Trump expects to be "reinstated" as president by August — inspiring some Republicans to accuse her of making it up. But conservative journalist Charles C.W. Cooke, in an article for the National Review, reported that Haberman was not fear-mongering and that Trump really does believe he will be returning to the Oval Office this summer. "Haberman's reporting was correct," Cooke writes. "I can attest, from speaking to an array of different sources, that Donald Trump does indeed believe quite genuinely that he — along with former Senators David Perdue and Martha McSally — will be 'reinstated' to office this summer after 'audits' of the 2020 elections in Arizona, Georgia and a handful of other states have been completed. I can attest, too, that Trump is trying hard to recruit journalists, politicians and other influential figures to promulgate this belief — not as a fundraising tool or an infantile bit of trolling or a trial balloon, but as a fact." Republicans, according to Cooke, are making a mistake if they "downplay the enormity of what is being claimed." "The scale of Trump's delusion is quite startling," Cooke writes. "This is not merely an eccentric interpretation of the facts or an interesting foible; nor is it an irrelevant example of anguished post-presidency chatter. It is a rejection of reality, a rejection of law, and, ultimately, a rejection of the entire system of American government. There is no Reinstatement Clause within the United States Constitution. Hell, there is nothing even approximating a Reinstatement Clause within the United States Constitution. The election has been certified, Joe Biden is the president, and, until 2024, that is all there is to it." Harder than the remote learning is all the other screen time. Thankfully not all of it is youtube videos of the current nonsense fad and some of it is interaction with classmates but OMG I am tired of 8yr old speak in the background while I am trying to work. (Facebook tip, take a picture of the fam at the beginning of the day and then share it at the end as another day in the books photo...)1 point

I’m really sick of hearing about how Scheifele hit a ‘defenseless’ player. It’s just completely false. Seriously, you can think it was legal/illegal, dirty/clean, suspendible or not, but saying Evans was defenseless, is ridiculous.1 point -

As bad as this hit looked, it was a hockey play and it was unavoidable given what each player was trying to do. You have to watch this play at full speed. The freeze frames and slow-mo's don't reflect on how little time Scheifele had to finish this play. The skating paths these 2 players had to take to arrive at the point of collision were a recipe for disaster. Anyone saying Scheifele skated 200 feet to take Evan's head off is full of it - he was in a puck race. Friedman posting the charging rules without any nuance suggests that a player should not get into a puck race if there is a chance the player he is pursuing will need to perform a wraparound. Scheifele was trying to prevent an empty net goal. He was probably skating between 30 and 40 km/hr. He needed as straight a line as possible in order to do this. If he arrives 3/10's of a second earlier, he prevents the goal and it becomes a great hockey play with an unfortunate result. His stick blade was on the ice right before he had to raise it in order to brace for impact. With less than half a second before impact and still going at considerable speed (in his necessarily straight line), he realizes he is too late to prevent the goal. All he can do at this point is brace himself for impact. Evans has head down (because wraparound) and is totally unprepared for the collision. I am not blaming Evans at all - he was just trying to score. On the other hand, I don't blame Scheifele either as he was just trying to stop him.1 point -

Did he leave his feat? Didn’t see that in the replay. Player was vulnerable because he was so focused on tucking the puck in and didn’t have his head up. Maybe he should have been more aware of his surroundings.1 point -

Second period thoughts: Someone forgot to freeze the pucks before the game. Lots of bouncing passes Not sure what game Dubois sees out there. Trying creative passes but off the mark on pretty much all of them Montreal pounding our defence high along the boards at the blue line. More odd man rushes in that period than in the entire series against Edmonton All the great sticks the Jets had in the first round have abandoned them tonight Good news is that Montrreal’s game plan is get up by 2 and then play dump it out for a full period, and Toronto showed that they can be exploited with that prevent defence style. Hellebuyck found his game that period and kept us in it.1 point -

First period thoughts: Montreal likely scouted back door plays Jets power play looked really good, just could not bury one Hellebuyck not looking great yet, flopping on the 3rd goal and not covering the puck when he could/should Wonder if DeMelo got cut by a skate, panel pondering a high ankle. Paging Jordie Benn Wonder if Stastny pulled something due to lack of game play Maurice said the first 10 minutes would not look like the rest of the game. We can only hope Reminded that in 2018 we came off the 7 game win over the Preds and dominated the rested Knights 4-1 in game 1. After that they found their legs, got some great goaltending, and rolled over us. Patience will be my mantra tonight. Especially because all the analytics fans are waiting to label the team a fraud.1 point -
