2021 (??) CFL Season

I will say this: There's a sadistic part of me that's happy we're all arguing with TBurg about the roster again... Must mean CFL football is in the air!4 points -

Hoping McGuire can learn well under Collaros and succeed. Snagged one of McGuire's game-worn jerseys from the Grey Cup year just in case. (It was very clean, BTW)3 points -
For All The Dad's Out There
SpeedFlex27 and one other reacted to Tracker for a topic
Speaking from experience, I want to acknowledge all the Dads out there ("fathers" denotes genetics not commitment and love), that this is a job which is sometimes thankless and always demands much, but pays off when we see what kind of dads, men and husbands our sons become and what kind of moms, women and wives our daughters become. We are one of the two most powerful influences in the lives of our offspring, without the benefit of all the hormones moms have, In recognition of this, I post the best dad joke I could find.2 points -
If he doesn't work out we parachute in someone. Like we did with collaros in 2019. You worry too much. Kyle walters is anything but inactive.2 points

I was really expecting big things from Mitchell with this years offence. His retirement was very disappointing, but I respect his decision given the uncertainty of things at the time. I just think he would have made this receiving corp one of the best in the CFL.2 points

McGuire was actually directly involved in more scoring plays than either Collaros or Streveler. Zach is responsible for 6 points with his handoff to Harris, Strev for 6 for his pass to Harris, and McGuire for 21 as the holder for Medlock on the field goals and converts.2 points -

Yeah well the most probable outcome is rarely the best possible outcome. WHy worry about that? I like the guys skill set, he showed some good awareness in the pocket in preseason, I choose to be excited about a young player rather than worry about the odds of him making it big. Be positive, we've been able to celebrate a championship team for 2 years now. Let's not get bogged down in negativity. Streveler and McGuire are not like a lot of the backups this team has brought in in the past. Sooner or later they're going to fall backasswards into somebody. why not now?2 points

Building on Tait's article but isn't it possible that McGuire has the level of success we saw from the relatively untested Evans, Fajardo, Arbuckle in 2019? Going back further Ricky Ray, Khari Jones, Printers all had success despite limited reps before coming starters. As Kevin Garnett said, "Anything is possible."1 point -

Indeed this is true. And I loved the lights-out hits McGuire delivered in 2019 on more than one defender on FG kick protection. It'll be interesting to see how the QBs develop as a group under a new Co-ordinator and how buck's offence differs from Lapo. You have to think it will still feature Harris but who knows? Buck has had lots of time to think about it.1 point -

You're the one who can't stop talking about our lack of developing qbs going back 50 years. You're pushing the discussion agenda here & not anyone else. It got old fast but yet here you are still talking about it 18 months after our Grey Cup win. The other positions? All doom & gloom. As I said, it gets old fast.1 point -

That’s not anything remotely resembling a quote. That’s Donald Trump-speak declaring as proof that “people out there are saying......” But let’s inject another opinion into this. Here’s Ed Tait’s write-up on McGuire and the situation he comes into. And also some QB comparables who AREN’T Bo Levi who came in the positive early reviews. https://www.bluebombers.com/2020/05/23/column-story-sean-mcguire/1 point -
2021 Off-season: State of the Jets
Mark F reacted to bustamente for a topic
There is no way the Jets as a team can let Stanley be picked off by the Kracken, guy wasn't even on the radar for this year if ever and was a surprise to the fans and management for the way he has progressed, still has lots to learn but but every other team would kill for what he brings as a bottom D man at the age of 221 point -

"There are only three Covid-19 patients at Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital at North Shore University Hospital, on Long Island, New York — a far cry from when the hospital, which is part of Northwell Health, had as many as 600 patients during the peak of the pandemic. All three patients, who are in the intensive care unit, have one thing in common, said Dr. Hugh Cassiere, director of the hospital's critical care services: They're unvaccinated. The trend appears to be occurring at hospitals nationwide. "I haven't had anyone that's been fully vaccinated become critically ill," said Dr. Josh Denson, a pulmonary medicine and critical care physician at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans." nbc news.1 point

I've been savouring this win now for 19 months. I don't give a damn about our so called record developing qbs. Most if not all teams in the CFL struggle doing the same. We won. That's all I care about. And I agree McGuire shows a helluva lot of promise as a backup. Who knows, maybe Streveler gets cut in Arizona & is back here by September. We just don't know.1 point -

Thye only thing I'll agree with you on is that yes, Brock didn't win a championship here. Whose to say it wouldn't have happened under Murphy in 1984 but it didn't as he was in Hamilton. We'll never know if he would have. Clements was a great fit but he also lost 4 out of the 5 years he was the Bombers qb in the playoffs. Whose to say Brock wouldn't have won a couple of Grey Cups he had stayed. Clements & Brock were 2 of the Top 3 qbs in the CFL when the trade was made in 1983. The other qb played in Edmonton & he left for Houston the next season along with his Head Coach. So, to me it's a wash... Brock got some bad advice from his agent Gil Scott who soured him on playing here. Scott has always been about the money & never about the fit. If you read his book you'll know Brock regrets his actions & wishes he wouldn't have left. Even playing in the NFL for more money after he left Hamilton didn't change the way he felt. That it was a huge mistake & he has regrets today. But such is life. We all have different paths to wander. Some good & some not so good. It's up to us to make the best of it.... As far as your other takes here about the Bombers on this thread, well...1 point -

Jesus tap dancing christ..... there is a vast vast difference between thinking a guy has potential enough to be a decent backup and expecting the kid to be one of the next BLM. Personally I really like his skillset and he showed very well in preseason so I am hopeful he can become a guy who can play. Streveler was nothing before he got his shot, why can't Mcguire do that too?1 point

They'll make the changes next week, as the current health orders are set to expire on June 26th. By then (the 22th to 24th), we'll have 25% with 2nd doses and they can "let us" have a more open Canada Day. Provided, the cases, TPR and hospitalizations continue to drop. Gee, it's almost like the Federal Government has been saying since November, that everyone who wants one will have a first dose by the end of June and second dose by the end of September.1 point -
