ZC sideline pass to Lawler for 12 Then play action pass to Demski for 21 Oliveria adds a 10 yd run… …but 59 roughing penalty pushes them back ZC incomplete 2nd down pass, ends drive MBT almost picked on 1st down ….then pressured into short dump off on 2nd Nelson punt return for 15 and draws 15 no yarder Good field position….as ZC dumps short to Lawler Argos blitz……ZC lofts long pass down the middle to Bailey… …who has a step and jumps up to take pass in end zone ….for the 35 yd TD! 7-0 for the Bombers Kongbo stuffs run play….. then MBT pressured again –incomplete Blue D line getting after the quarterback….. Olivera rocked on 2nd down dump pass White gets outside and runs for 20…. MBT sacked by Jeffcoat and a hord of Bombers But illegal contact in secondary wipes that out Bighill nails White for loss of 4 Good 2nd down tackle from Nichols to force punt Oliveria crunched in backfield…loses 3 yds 2nd down incomplete has the Bombers punting Not so easy running against the Argos, tonight Lots of hard contact, by both teams, so far…… Miller misses tackle on sideline…25 yd gain But Argos are offside on back to back plays …..Toronto just boning themselves with the penalties…. On 2nd down, Zac doodles around 3 rushes…. …and dumps to Demski, nice effort short of the marker Oliveria gets some revenge….he just cranks an Argo, downfield… Both punters getting plenty of reps….. Jefferson cuts down White in the backfield….for a -4 MBT rushed…..throws incomplete…….punt Demski reverse sweep….nice run for 20 Then Nick catches screen…. but fumbles in Argo territory Jefferson gets into MBT’s face…forces incomplete pass MBT off the back foot to Collins, who breaks Miller tackle for 25 White stuffed: MBT throws to nobody: 49 yd FG attempt by Bede ……hits the upright, drops straight down…..no dice. Collaros hits FD passes to Lawler and McKnight… Hook pass to Lawler for 15, pass to Woltman for 9 Zac pretty accurate with the throws tonight… ZC finds McDaniels to the Argo 10… But Zac sack, brings on Merde for the 20 yd FG. 10-0 Bombers Did the Argos have 100 yds of O, in that half? Must of taken 10 penalties, though….. Nice 2nd pass knockdown by Nichols… Could someone tell Bomber receivers to run forward.. …after they catch the bloody pass? Blue kick coverage smothering…. White stuffed: MBT pressured: Argos punt Argos take another 15 for no yards Nelson is not the KR threat that Grant is….. Bomber O could really use a big play…. Swing pass to Lawler… Oliveria powers for FD Z hits Woltman, then Lawler to the Argo 30 Oliveria runs into heavy traffic, yet again… Collaros launches long throw to Lawler in end zone… …but ball is badly underthrown, and picked off… Argos still hanging around, only down by 10 MBT finally has some time….wide open R downfield… ….but overthrows and misses a sure 6 points…. Oliveria stuffed again, Zac misses 2nd down pass again Crowd is as dead as the Blue offense…right now… MBT takes a seat as Nick Arbuckle goes in at QB… Nick completes 4 passes in a row…. White runs trap play, gets outside….30 yd TD 10-7…so much for controlling this game…. Really time for some Bomber O, here…. Collaros finds Lawler twice, but Bailey tagged on a hold. Oliveria thumped after catching screen pass…. Bomber O firing on 0 cylinders…… White has good run, but ball is stripped by Briggs… ….Blue recover deep in Argo end.. Argos promptly take a 15 yd roughing penalty… Lack of discipline killing them in this one… ZC throws up pass to the corner of end zone…. …to a wide open Demski…..TD!! 17-7 Argos take time count, then an offside penalty Arbuckle completing couple of passes, but drive stalls.. Miller getting picked on a bit, tonight… Brady O gets another 0 on the run…. McKnight catches pass short of marker…..punt again.. Bomber kick coverage still stifling…. Nelson finally gets loose on PR round the end for 30 Zac is incomplete, then sandwiched in the backfield So much for the O…. Arbuckle has time and hits a wide open guy over the middle… …unfortunately, the guy is Taylor for the Bombers. INT. ZC completes to Lawler…..Oliveria is stuffed, Argos offside… Zac misses Bailey…Bombers settle for a crap 22 yd FG 20-7, with time running down Pass completed, Alexander strips ball, Briggs recovers!!! But officials call pass incomplete. No time out to challenge.. Adding insult to injury, Bombers get delay of game penalty…. Brescacin hit by Nichols, rolling around holding his leg… ….as he is helped off the field…..looks pretty bad. Hansen knocks down pass…..Nichols busts up pass catch…. …..as he is having a pretty good evening, back there… Arbuckle hit by Jeffcoat…fumbles…recovered by Willie J. That is that…..tough grinding game… Bombers had to work pretty hard to get through I had to drink pretty hard, to get through...as well….13 points -

First star goes to Rasheed Bailey for sure, huge TD grab and his halftime interview had my dad tearing up - for those at the game, he said his family is dealing with the very severe medical situation of a close family member and he was hoping to give them something to celebrate for tonight to give them a moment of happiness. Great stuff.7 points -

Andrew Lauderdale makes first career start at LT for Riders, draws in for Brett Boyko Photo courtesy: Saskatchewan Roughriders The Saskatchewan Roughriders will start Andrew Lauderdale at left tackle against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 2. Saskatoon native Brett Boyko started on Cody Fajardo’s blindside in the Riders Week 1 win against the B.C. Lions. However, according to the league’s injury report, an illness put Boyko on the disabled list. (From a quick look at Lauderdale's shorts, I would say he is feeling very tentative.)6 points

HH to Nichols - only had 1 INT and got the win despite throwing for under 300 yards lol Seriously though.... Dude brings the wood and on a couple occassions him and Taylor caused drops bc Argos receivers heard the train coming and didnt want to stay on the tracks.5 points -

I had a good chuckle in the 4th quarter when the score was 17-7 and the video board put up the choices for player of the game. The choices were Lawler, Collaros, Bailey, and Demski. No disrespect to the offence, but the defence carried them all game. 3 stars: 1. Jesse Briggs - finally gets a start and has a huge game with constant pressure, defensive and special teams tackles, and the game changing forced fumble. 2. GM Kyle Walters - hard to single out individual defensive players in another team effort like yesterday, so a salute to the guy who has given us enough depth to not only survive but flourish with the injuries piling up. The rotation system on the defensive front 7 means tons of different looks and constant fresh players bringing pressure. Can’t do that unless your depth players can step in without missing a beat. Kudos to the man who built this squad up from the Joe Mack trash heap he was left (one of the biggest upgrades at a single position in club history) 3. Kenny Lawler - on a night where the offence had trouble getting some traction, despite some fancy stats from Collaros and his 80% pass completion rate, the only true offensive star was Lawler. 9 catches, almost all clutch when we needed to make a big first down, and he fought for every tough yard. Took a pounding and came out on top. HH - Well friends, it was another great night for football and another dominant defensive performance from the local dozen, sprinkled with just enough offence and a dash of solid special teams to produce a victory for the home side. And again there were some standout performances. But this award is about that something extra special. That player or players who did that one little thing, or not so little, that made them stand out. And normally a play like that forced fumble by Jesse Briggs that led to the clinching TD would fit the bill, especially coming with the team only up by 3 points and with the Argos starting to claw back into the game. But Briggs was a strong force all night, so he is honoured with a game star, not a happy honker. Other players like Jackson Jeffcoat and Willie Jefferson were their usual dominant selves but lacked that one WOW play to flip the game that would have pushed them over the top. The secondary, including big hitting Nick Taylor, had its moments as well despite giving up some big completions when the Argos were second and long. On special teams, Marc Legghio deserves credit for literally going toe to toe with Boris Bede’s monster leg, as his punts kept the Argonauts on a long field all night long. And Charles Nelson acquitted himself on the return game in place of the injured Jenarion Grant. Although this understudy was not as dangerous as Grant might have been, he was fairly sure handed and always churned out positive yards on each return. Offensively, the flash was missing tonight but there was steady play for the most part. And leading the charge was offensive coordinator Buck Pierce, who followed in his mentor’s footsteps with a clean, clock chewing game plan of short passing and mixed up the run game enough with Jet sweeps to throw the Argo defence a few curves. Similarly, QB Zachary Collaros, clearly learned something from his predecessor Matt Nichols, with a stable ball control offence, and high passing efficiency and completion percentage, with just enough of a deep ball threat to keep the Argos honest. But he did throw an ill-advised pick when he mistakenly thought he had a free play, so that disqualifies him. And kudos to Rasheed Bailey on his first CFL touchdown that wasn’t called back on review. And the smaller than expected but boisterous group of fans at the game deserve a shout out for their disruptive noise that befuddled an undisciplined Toronto team into many costly penalties. But this game was once again about the defence, and that is where the award goes tonight. Jesse Briggs forced the game changing fumble, but it would mean nothing if Toronto recovered, so we must give credit to Deatrick Nichols for pouncing on the loose pigskin and flipping the script on a game that may have started to get away from the Bombers. And later sealing the victory with his first career interception was just the icing on the cake. Two turnovers that led to 10 Blue Bomber points is certainly Happy Honker worthy. And I must also give recognition to a different team whose contribution at the game was equally important. We had a terrible accident on Pembina Highway just beyond the stadium gates, and our local constabulatory were on the scene for hours doing their duty, and then pulled double duty protecting all the fans at the stadium and then effectively guided the vehicular traffic away from IG Field and into the night. I understand that the bulk of the badged men and women in blue came from the St. Boniface district. Therefore, a double happy honker tonight. A salute to the unheralded, under-appreciated, and often unfairly criticized Nichols and La Police.4 points -

I would say Nichols was far better than Taylor, although I was very happy with Taylor too. Jefferson, Jeffcoat, Kongbo and Sayles all had big nights on the DL. Briggs had a few nice plays too, although I’m hoping Wilson/Rocquemore can play in week 3.4 points

A lot of the missed throws from the argos qbs were simply them trying to get the ball out quick cause they knew the pressure was coming. Was brave of the Argos to wear their white pants.3 points
