  1. Going to address the media this afternoon. Good on the him and the club being open and honest about the situation.

Was waiting for something to happen. Honestly, dress Roosevelt for this week, get Lawler the help he needs and let’s move on. This doesn’t need to be a career defining moment. We’ll be okay.

I'm pretty proud of MBB today. We can be fragmented as a forum on a lot of issues but I think we all understand the gravity of this situation and I don't see anyone downplaying it. We may not agree on the punishment but we're not dismissing this behaviour as acceptable.

  4. I grew up in an alcoholic family. My father was a drunk. My Mom couldn't drive. You have no idea how terrifying it was going to a wedding or a social event with my parents. Then watching my Dad drink himself into oblivion every time. Afterwards sitting in the back seat of our car with my dad piss assed drunk driving home. There I was sitting in the back seat as a kid just praying we'd get home without being killed. So many times. There was such a feeling of helplessness by me all those times as I was too young to drive. I can only imagine how helpless my Mother felt. She never got her drivers license because she was born in 1912 & raised on the farm something like 10 km from the nearest school so she only had a Grade 2 education. She could barely read or write. She didn't have the confidence to drive. I get what Lawler did. It was so wrong to put himself & others at risk. I hope this was just a one time thing & he learns his lesson.

  5. Single car accident ups the ante. When I was young, drunk driving was something everyone did. I'm sure I was over .08 many times after the bar, but I never had an accident. The Bombers handled it quickly and professionally. Once is a poor decision that doesn't equal alcoholism. Lets hope that's what it is. A mistake is a mistake, sometimes, it's also a learning experience.

A door has closed for one person and another has opened for someone else. A mistake is not a mistake if you learn from it- then it becomes a lesson.

Well, thankfully, we are not prosecuted for the worst potential outcome of our mistakes. He will undergo the legal process for his actions and, on top of that, will miss a game (along with the accompanying game cheque).

  8. If Lawler hadn't been in an accident (and instead had been pulled over at a check stop or at random) would it be different? The accident means it is almost impossible to sweep under the rug.

  9. Yup...no previous history of trouble with law..obvious has no serious issue affecting his play to date...and it will be a one game "team" imposed suspension...chalk it up to a learning experience and we move on...and I am sure teammates will agree and stand by him...for all we know several could have left from somewhere...in same condition...and one got caught...so this prob good for the team to see what can happen.

he will be punished by the extent of the law which fits what he did...and he gets extra punishmnet by the public exposure to it, and losing a game cheque...more than sufficient as joe average 99 percent of the time can hide it from most people if not all

  16. Have wondered the same thing actually. Could certainly have been something like weed and the cops could smell it. People make mistakes, he is owning that mistake. We should have his back, he is paying a price most of us would not be subjected to for the same dumb mistake.

This here debunks the constant claims we are a divided community. No we're not divided on this. We are the majority whether we like it or not who believe in doing what's best based on the actual science (not Karen and Todd's 'science') to be able to cohabitate with one another.

  19. Sounds like Kenny was pretty emotional yesterday, which would indicate he understands the consequences of what the outcome is and could have been. He gets a chance to grow now, and I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he will. If the team was getting possibly getting complacent (and I don't think they were) this is a good wake up call for how quickly things can change.

we won't be picking anyone up...And he won't be cut/released/suspended for season either....He/we handled it right, will address all today...will move on and I suspect he will play with even more of a chip on shoulder and lead league at end of year...bad judgement call, and lesson learned, and lucky it was not a serious lesson.

  21. Now that I’ve had time to absorb the information.. let’s remember that we’re all human and we make mistakes. Demonizing someone does us no good. Let’s hope he learns his lesson and comes back a better man. He needs support and we should give it to him. Selfishly I was angry because of the effect on the team and Ofcourse his wreck less decision but staying angry does no good and he needs support.

    CHAMPS at Leo's GDT

99.99% of us probably have been lucky to never have been in his shoes. I have a friend who was in a single vehicle accident under the influence (mixed meds with a couple of drinks, wasn't thinking). It is no joke, he had to go to classes to avoid a record, he paid a TON for his license for years.Could only drive to work and back. Definitely not a slap on the wrist. Kenny is going to get more than a game suspension in real life consequences I am sure.

  29. One has actual terms defined in the CBA, the other probably doesn't. Also extrapolating the worst case scenario is not something the legal system does. Otherwise every assault would be attempted murder. The league set precedent with the Hughes incident. Did Ellingson miss any time at all? Bet you don't even remember his DUI. His suspension is fair from a league perspective and he is not out of the woods with the law.

So Oshea said Lawler suspended for 1 game...and 1 game only...and I agree 100 percent with that....dumb thing happened....don't let it happen again....now we move forward, and this will in no way derail this group...plus it gives Rosie a chance to get some game reps

  34. Under current laws, you do not have to be over .08 or .05 to be charged with DWI- all you need do is show behavioural signs of impairment, be in the care and control of a motor vehicle (including a boat) while impaired or refuse to provide a sample. OTC medications, street drugs, prescription meds, fatigue and dehydration as well as emotional or physical distress can render the effects of alcohol debilitative.

  36. You never really know until you find out. I've had 2 beer and driven home as well, driven while impaired(has been years since) and it's just not worth the risk. On the same topic, been a year today aince I've had a single drink, maybe ill celebrate with a drink lol

  37. When I was around Lawler's age I was in the hospitality industry. Work late, have a beer or two with my peers and go home and never thought anything of it. Around that time the big push for increased impaired driving penalties and awareness campaign was just starting and after witnessing many of my customers getting caught for impaired I bought a portable pocket breathalyzer for myself. It was kind of an impulse buy, as they were just coming out and my intention was to carry it with me at work and if I spotted any of our regulars on their way out I would offer them to use it. To make a long story short, was having a couple beers at closing time with the staff while cleaning up and decided to give it a whirl. To my surprise I blew over the limit. I had driven home many times after doing the exact same thing. It was on that day I realized that many people who go out for a drink or two at the pub with a buddy are likely unaware they are over the limit even when they are. I am not excusing drunk driving in any way just stating a fact. I learned that day that despite the fact I did not feel impaired that I was and I am glad I did not find out in the back seat of a squad car. I set forth on politely warning all my regulars who I knew would come and then drive home after. Some appreciated it, some didn't and some didn't care. Just throwing it out there that not everyone who steps behind the wheel of a vehicle impaired is necessarily making the conscious choice to do so. I have long advocated for breathalyzers to be implemented in every bar and lounge so that people can learn what their tolerances really are because they vary significantly from person to person.

  41. He has worked his ass off and it had him leading the league in yards. Let himself down, let his team down, lets the organization and fans down. Where his life goes from here will depend what he does next. If he has NFL plans this is a serious strike.
