    Vaccine Debate

I just don't get why we let unvaccinated players play when they can't travel. Good thing we have Gray ready to go. He can play guard or tackle. Hope he enjoys watching the game on television & not getting paid if we win. To me, it's just toal selfishness & not a team player.

  2. I have worked in acute healthcare for 30 years. My wife has been a respiratory therapist for the same amount of time. My daughter has just begun her healthcare career in the medical ICU. Tell me more about how being unvaccinated affects only the individual, when people are dying from the lack of surgical intervention because medical options are closed due to lack of resources.

  4. It was a blown call. It’s incredibly concerning that the refs and the command center both look at that and say “Yep. Good to go.” That hurts the reputation of the league.

  5. Rider fans crying about Zach not having nice words about their organization. Do they really think there's a nation wide/league wide conspiracy against them? They're a total clown show of a team, organization, and fan base. They got a taste of success in the 2000's and went from lovable losers to insufferable winners. It became a fad to go and powerdrink at the games and be total assholes to visitors (source: me and people I know). They let what precious little success they had get to their heads and decided to act like entitled hillbillies who struck oil. They became the football beverly hillbillies but instead of being lovable Podunk idiots, they were like a truck full of dumb asses from Alabama who drove in from the mountains and are rude to the locals. There's a reason Zach has great things to say about Hamilton and not Saskatchewan. I hope for 2 things. I hope we win on Sunday, and, I hope we as a fan base stay the hell away from where the Rider fan base went. I hope we stay humble and the best fans in the country. F*** Saskatchewan and their pig fans. Zach is right, you and your club can pound sand.

  6. I'd agree with the statement that RELATIVELY SPEAKING, Neufeld is the weakest link on that line, but that's because we have one of the CFL's all time greatest OL's right now, and that's no exaggeration. Neufeld being the "weak link" on this line still makes him a CFL All Star and an all time Bomber, as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry for my part in cluttering things here but I feel it's important to speak up against this vaccine resistance bullshit. There is virtually no good reason to not get vaxxed. There is next to no excuse at this point and no number of rumble videos, 4chan articles or Rebel media soundbites will convince me anti-vaxxers are rational thinkers.

  12. This has been explained over and over again. Nothing about this vaccine was "rushed". Not only was the technology years in the making, but no steps in the process were skipped, they were just able to be accelerated due to an unprecedented level of funding and cooperation. These vaccines will go down as essentially the most widely tested and scrutinized in history.

Mods can we move the all the vax talk to the Covid thread and talk about football here? It's unfortunate Eli chose not to get vaxxed, and he'll have to live with the consequences of that choice. Let's move on here and talk about how the Jeffs are going to crush Evans.

If someone's decision is best for them and nobody else, the decision is selfish. Not by opinion, by definition. We get vaxxed to protect ourselves and others. Not getting vaxxed, at absolute best, only protects you (from what exactly changes depending on the person... ranges from "duuuhhhhh I don't want my DNA modified" to "microchips" to "fetal tissue" and on and on). In Eli's case, the team suffers for his decision. He's the only one that benefits(???) from his choice... so by definition, it's selfish.

  17. Like C'mon. Does Eli refuse doctors aid when he gets hurt?!?!?! Get the vaccine, keep yourself and others safe(r).
    6 points
  18. If Eli played for Edmonton or Ottawa, I could see (kinda) why he wouldn't want to get vaccinated. But why would he sacrifice playing in the Grey Cup & celebrating with his teammates if they win? He knew there was a very good chance the Bombewrs would make it. When he's my age, he'll have regrets. Especially if he never makes it back. He's still selfish, BTW.

  20. Some random, maybe fascinating but largely useless stuff about the upcoming game: In the 108 year history of the Grey Cup, this is the 33rd time a team has returned to the championship game to defend its title. Defending champions are 21-11 in the following year’s game when they return. Since the founding of the CFL in 1958 they are 9-6. This is also the 46th time a team that has lost the previous Grey Cup has gotten back to the big game. Those teams are 22-23 overall, and 16-10 since 1958, in that scenario. Winnipeg and Hamilton are meeting for the 12th time in the Grey Cup game, including the matches where their military teams playing in the 1940’s. This is the most common match-up in Grey Cup history, surpassing the 11 match-ups between Edmonton and Montreal. Since the inception of the CFL in 1958, Montreal and Edmonton have met 8 times. With this year’s match-up, the Bombers and Cats will now tie that record in the CFL era. Winnipeg is 7-4 overall against Hamilton in Grey Cup games, and 6-1 since 1958. This is the 17th re-match in Grey Cup history, and the 10th in the CFL era (sort of, the Bombers and Tiger Cats played each other on 1957 and 58 so there was an overlap in the pre- and Post-CFL era there: the 1958 game is not counted in the “CFL era” stats). Overall, the team that won the first game is 10-6 in the re-match, but only 4-5 in the CFL era (starting with the 1959 Bomber-Cat re-match). Only 4 times have two teams met in 3 consecutive seasons. Here are the full results: 1928-29: Hamilton sweeps Saskatchewan 1937-38: Toronto sweeps Winnipeg *1945-47: Toronto defends twice over Winnipeg, sweeping the 3 games *1954-56: Edmonton goes 3-0 over Montreal *1957-59: Hamilton wins the first meeting with Winnipeg, the Bombers win the re-match, then defend their title in year 3 1961-62: Bombers win both against Hamilton (this is the first time two clubs will play 5 Grey Cups against each other in a 6 year span, Edmonton and Montreal will repeat this feat in the 1970’s) 1963-64:Hamilton and BC split with the Cats winning the first and the Leos taking the re-match 1974-75: Montreal beats Edmonton in the opener but lose the re-match 1977-79: Esks/Als again for 3 straight, Alouettes win the first, give up the title in year 2, and the Eskimos defend in year 3. 1998-99: Calgary beats Hamilton in the first one, Cats flip the script the next year 2002-03: Montreal/ Edmonton once again, Als win the first one but Esks spoil the title defence the next year 2009-10: Montreal sweeps Saskatchewan, including the infamous “13th man” penalty in game one. The Tiger Cats get a home game this year. This is the 11th time they have hosted, and amazingly only once in the prior 10 games have they not appeared as a team in the game they hosted (Toronto vs Edmonton in 1996). They are 6-3 as the “home team” in the other 9 Grey Cups held in Hamilton., although the first 8 were before the rotational system came into play. Before 1941, almost every game was held in Hamilton or Toronto (Ottawa did not host until 1925 when they beat the Winnipeg Tammany Tigers as the home team, Montreal got its first home game in 1931 beating the Roughriders), and there was no neutral site, so every year until 1941 was a home game for one of the teams (always in the east). The first “neutral site” game was in 1941 when Toronto hosted the game and Winnipeg beat Ottawa. After that game, Toronto won as the host city 6 times, beating Winnipeg in 1942, 45-47, and 50, and beating Edmonton in 1952. Hamilton lost as the host to Montreal in 1944. That game in Hamilton was the only one in a 14 year span where every other game was in Toronto. The first western Grey Cup was 1955 when Edmonton defeated Montreal in BC. After that game, Toronto and BC rotated the hosting duties, with BC essentially getting every third year. The next host city to have its team appear in the game was BC in 1963, who lost to Hamilton. But the true rotation of Grey Cup host cities did not start until 1965, with the 4 eastern teams and BC hosting. Calgary would get its first Grey Cup in 1975, Edmonton in 1984, Winnipeg in 1991, and Regina in 1995. Since the advent of the full rotational system , 11 teams have played at home in a Grey Cup game before this year. Those home teams are 6-5 overall, including the last 3 times in consecutive years from 2011 to 2013. Calgary and Winnipeg are the only two current CFL teams to have never played in a “home” Grey Cup game. Edmonton is the only franchise to never win a “home” Grey Cup. And finally, Winnipeg and Hamilton have met once before in a “home field” Grey Cup, all the way back in 1935 when the Winnipeg Pegs beat the Tiger Cats to become the first ever western team to win the Grey Cup.

It's the same as the climate change "debate". The science is overwhelming but there will always be those that deny it because some random report somewhere has convinced them. If they don't believe the science and they don't believe the billions that have already been vaxxed, then there isn't much left to say. Just stay away from everyone else and stop complaining about the restrictions that you face for your own decisions. The "debate" has been over for age.

Ever heard of the Manhattan Project? Put the world's smartest people in a room together and in enough time they will figure out how to split the atom. Get all the worlds best epidemiologists together in a room and they can tackle a novel virus. It's not that crazy to imagine a concentrated effort involving the entire world's scientific community can have some amazing breakthroughs in less time than seems possible to people who aren't epidemiologists

  29. For those wondering about the draft picks in the Neufeld/Hall trade: Sask took DL Dylan Ainsworth with the 2014 2nd round pick we gave. He was primarily a special teamer and appears to have retired in 2017 due to illness in his family. Wpg took RB Christophe Normand with the 2015 4th round pick we got back. The Bombers did end up getting a 2nd round pick in 2014, selecting Jesse Briggs at 17th overall. They traded their 20th (which Sask used to pick Kicker, Johnny Mark) and 26th (which Sask used to pick WR Kristopher Bastien) for the 17th.

Get someone sitting on a ventilator to talk about how they didn't just blindly trust the government. There are people who are dead or dying, because they believe what you have posted here. An unvaccinated person carries a heavier viral load, especially now, because there are less of them We, as vaccinated people, then have a higher chance of getting sick from Covid How do I know this? It happened to me, that's how. Look around you - please get off the internet and look around you.

  40. I remember all the flack Walters got trading for Paddy when all we gave up for a starting NI ended up being use of Alex Hall for the remainder of 2013 (a lost season at that point) and a 2nd round pick (the player picked ended up being a flop).... I bet if you asked Walters he'd say that was the best trade he ever made.

Is that what you think? That we just brainlessly follow orders blindly like zombies when it comes to the Covid vaccine? To me, it's commom sense. Why would I expose myself to a virus that will make me sick or even kill me at age 66?? Why did you get it? Seems like you fell into step to get the vaccine. Know what? I'm getting a booster on Friday. Like I said, players that don't get vaxxed next year won't play period.

  44. Once again, for those in the back: the CFL isn't banning anyone. The federal government has mandated that anyone aboard a plane or a train in Canada MUST be vaccinated That's why Eli can't play, but Masoli can.

  45. when you watch last year's WF and this year's WF you realize that these kinds of games come down to two or three plays that make all the difference. A missed FG in this game coupled with a big return, Hansen's goal-line stop of Powell in 2019's WF. Those plays turn games around, and they come from truly extraordinary effort at key moments.
    4 points
  46. lol good point If you think about it though, those three points would have been huge for the Riders. They would have been playing for the FG to win the game rather than needing a TD. And if Grant hadn't brought the ball out, they would have been playing for a tie. But it's not just about that - that return by Grant energized the Bombers which is what they needed. You could feel the whole game change, as the Bombers realized that things were starting to finally go their way after so much nonsense. They just took control after that and the Riders didn't have a chance.
