  1. And yet in the biggest game of the year both times he was outplayed by the guy he lost to. 2019 Jefferson puts up 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles to Lawrence’s 4 tackles. 2021 both Bighill and Simoni get 5 tackles, but Lawrence disappeared in the second half and blew downfield coverage on both Demski’s and especially Adams’ TDs as well as the Bailey 2 point convert. Was wildly out of position on the convert and had initial coverage responsibility on the Darvin TD play, left flailing his arms in confusion both times. Bighill meanwhile got stronger and made two huge plays late, first making a TD saving tackle early in the 4th near the goal line to keep the Cats from going up 26-10, then stuffed the screen play in OT on 1st and 20 to force the 2nd and 18 INT throw. And when Stanley Bryant was truly snubbed for lineman in 2019 against Van Zeyl, he didn’t complain, he let his Grey Cup play show how badly the voters had messed up. Just like true winners do.

  2. Let's not forget what a masterful job Jones did as a GM in Saskatchewan. He needed to play a WR at DB because there was no depth. This guy is genius.

  3. Sadly, the re-hiring of Chris Jones should never have been done by Toronto, this past summer. He didn't deserve a 2nd opportunity with them, let alone the CFL, now. He claimed he had his dream job (coaching in his home town, plus the NFL Cleveland job, after he left the Riders high/dry, which sadly Rider fans don't see it, as he does no wrong). His leaving or screwing other CFL teams is his passion, as in: Riders (all CFL coaching staff were set at the time, although Rider nation was upset with the Bombers as we should have given Lapo an opportunity to interview), Eskimos (after winning the Grey Cup, no need to cerebrate with championship team, focus on another team ), Argos (there is something there, but can't remember) & the Stamps (I know Huff was really upset with him when he left). Now, with the Elks, yes he will find ways to improve the team quickly and the winning will happen sooner than later. But with him come the shenanigans as we all saw with the Riders (fake injuries during the game creating play stoppage, player stashing and anything else that comes to his mind). I have posted earlier about Chris Jones and my dislike for his ways. He can coach/manage a football team, that I know. But, in my way of thinking there are capable people in our league that could have done the job(s) in Edmonton or for that matter in Toronto earlier this year. He definitely can/will do a quick fix, but for how long he stays there or even the CFL, is my question. Remember, Edmonton, under lots of fanfare, 2 years ago, you guys paid a head football coach for a complete year to sit on his back side, collect his salary & leave for the NFL on short notice. Hopefully, its not a repeat, with Mr. Jones. In closing, I'm disappointed with the group that was the Edmonton selection group, but like the outcome in Ottawa.

  4. If his character as a coach was a qb it'd have the mobility of late Matt Nichols the down field accuracy of Fajardo the arm strength of lefevour the clutch factor of Masoli the poise of dru brown and the head case of Casey printers.

  5. I don't think he has any regrets about his sendoff.........

  6. I like Eddie Steele, and respect his braveness to tell everyone what they already knew, but at the end of the day he is a big time Eskimo homer. Before the Esks slide and his eventual termination he was as nauseating and outlandish as Luc Mullinder. There will be a few guys who go Chris Jones way because he allows his defences to run the room, but he is a notoriously cheap GM at contract time. I don't see a parade of FA's going his way because even in SSK he couldn't really attract many. Most of his guys were always reclamation projects or weird out of position experiments. Name a top notch FA that he was able to land and more importantly keep. He even lowballed Willie and was the guy that eventually caused the rift that walked him out the door in SSK.

  7. He has also been public about his love for Mike oshea and the Bombers in general so I don't think the pull of Chris Jones is as strong as it once was

Somebody should tell Heather there is a Bomber event at IG Field and then spring a press conference on her.

  10. So stupid on the part of the player. Exact wrong kind of publicity in a market that has struggled for years. At least the suspension is somewhat substantial; I am all for fan engagement, but opponent or not this type of behavior from the fan and player is simply not on.

  11. I bet those dbs can ball. Miller is a classic tweener pass rusher. Crazy explosive but injury concerns. Zuber is a fast 6 foot 190 type. Little bit of experience returning but a wr not a kr guy. Davis is in the mold of Sayles at dt. Far more athletic and rangy then most dts really long guy who can create pressure inside or out and attack the passing lane. He'd be a sneaky good pick up. Bentley is an interesting guy. He was a 5 star prospect out of hs who skipped his senior year. Instead getting the ncaa early. But he battled injuries And consistency. Ended up playing parts of 6 seasons in college. A more than 4 year starter. Not usually the type of guy we target.

  12. Willie J followed Jones to the Riders when he was an unknown, and quite frankly got taken advantage of by Jones. In his final season with the Riders Willie was being paid 165k and when he had a MODP calibre season (narrowly losing the West nod to Biggie), Jones lowballed him again to the point that Willie declared he was going to test FA even BEFORE Jones left. I really think that Willie loving Jones is a thing of the past and his final days in Regina seem to confirm that. O'Day made several last ditch efforts to re-sign Willie in the week he had to do so but by that time the damage was done and Walters back door men had let Willie know he would get a fair contract and better treatment a few hours west.

  13. Eddie Steele who I think we all respect when he spoke out abouth Elks organization, in particular Brock Sunderland & then was fired from his analyst job on the Elks radio broadcasts says on twitter that free agents are lining up to sign with Edmonton. That may be a bit of an overstatement I think but we also know free agents want to sign here as well. What's going to be interesting is what Jones does with both Cornelius & Arbuckle, two qbs he never signed & may not want. I think one of them will be gone & he looks to sign an experienced veteran starting qb. Hello, Dane Evans.

  14. I did get a chance to re-watch that 2 point play again. Before Woli and ZC have their fake-out convo, Woli can be seen talking to Bailey. So I'm assuming that the order was - Woli tells Bailey the ball is going to him, then goes to ZC to tell him the fake out is on and to make it look like the ball is going to Woli. Meanwhile, Hamilton keys on Woli, stupidly thinking that the Bombers would be dumb enough to telegraph a play that badly. Amazing that it worked. Hamilton must have been pretty exhausted mentally and physically by that point to fall so easily for the fake out like that.

    Covid-19

I wish the news media, you know journalists, would stop sugar coating things and do their damn job of finding out what’s really going on in whatever they are investigating no matter what side of the political spectrum they’re reporting on. Latest example Rachel Thomas Tory MP ‘touts false information about Covid-19 vaccines, wants unvaccinated to be respected, appreciated in the community’. No, Rachel Thomas is using a confirmed lie to push an agenda that has nothing to do with let’s be kind to one another regardless of vaccination status. Dig deeper journalists, find the true motive and start calling it what it is. Sheesh.

  29. You know, if Bob had retired before Covid there would have been a huge retirement banquet for the guy. he'd have been roasted by some of the best Canadian sports & local media writers & broadcasters. It would have been a night of a lotta laughs. Too bad things have changed with Covid because if anyone deserves a sendoff like that, it's Bob Irving.

  34. I would add extremely dumb to that mixture but yes after all the concrete science and evidence accumulated on this virus that doesn't care about politics or opinions, lets continue to be kind and hand hold and allow these people to run amok with their influence and negative impact on our health services. There are people on their death beds due to this virus who still hold onto their dumbness and people like CH continue to add the gas to that fire.

  35. Fan of his hockey talent and the jersey he wears but that's it when it comes to him. Whether people like it or not, what he says and does outside of hockey influence others. The pattern is showing he's a weak minded individual who lives in fantasy land. And people like will him just just scoff at others who use kindness to tell him he's wrong.

  37. Take a look at Jones roster in SSK and it wasn't built on FA. He is not a big spender in that regard. The only big FA that he ever signed was Charleston Hughes. Jones likes to GM to prove he is the smartest guy in the room. He loves to roll the dice on players he thinks underachieved elsewhere because his ego believes he can rebuild them. His roster Rider is literally all guys that Murphy recruited or other teams let walk to FA for one reason or another. Even Hughes was a guy Hufnagel let walk to FA because he thought he was past his best before date. Huf was wrong on that one...but those are the types Jones likes to sign.
