  1. Lawler is awesome and I’m very sad to see him go, but we also shouldn’t be competing with those kinds of offers. He’ll probably have a great year and I hope he does. We can’t replace him, but maybe we luck out and find a solid receiver in camp and sign an Ellingson type to bridge the gap a bit.

  2. It's crowded backfield in Toronto with Harris, MBT and all his ancestors.

  5. Can’t find the next Stove or Mike Jones or Darby or Lawler if you just ride the ones you have until the wheels fall off. We’re going to find players. There’s a reason Danny Mac and Goveia were both sought after as GMs this off-season.

  6. Darvin came in with not that much production one of those fringe signings and man did he produce even through some bad quarterback play.

  7. Andrew Harris is important to the locker room if he comes back but predicting the doom of our culture or other players being disgruntled by it is a massive reach. These guys are pros and they understand that anyone can go at anytime. They will come to camp and not miss a beat without him. I love Harris but if he leaves it really hurts the sentimentality of the fans far more than the team.

  9. dude was so clutch in big games. Grey Cup 19, Western Final 2021 .... it absolutely sucks that it went this way but I understand why it had to happen. Great sport, shitty business.

  11. The win of the off season was keeping both Danny Mac and Goveia. They’ve done an outstanding job bringing in new talent every year.

  13. Trust me when I say this. Myself & a few others here have been watching the Bombers for decades. We've seen a lot of outstanding backs play for us over the years & we'll have others in the future. Harris is a great back & will go down as one of the Bombers best ever. Not the greatest but one of them. We now have 3 young Canadians at running back & they need to play. Harris is breaking down physically at 35. He missed a substantial part of last season as well as a lot of practice time with injuries & maintenance days. You can't have one player not go through the drudgery & hard work of training camp & practices & then just be given back his starting spot on Game Day. That too, causes dissension when others at the same position do the work but don't play. It's time to pass the baton for the Bombers. If he has to go then he has to go.

  14. I don't want to lose Harris but at the same time he's not a long term solution so at some point you gotta replace him. Better to do it before you lose the guys who might be able to do it.

  17. Let’s just say there is some truth to what he is saying. Would none of this potentially fall on Harris? If he asks for too much, when everyone else is giving up a little here and there, the Bombers what? Owe it to him to give in? Why?

  18. We did, but we retained a ton of good players too... and we have a top front office that has shown an ability to bring in players. The fact players from our team are so in demand is a testament to what the Bombers have done. Other teams go "if you can't beat em poach their players." I bet we see some good pick ups on value deals in a few days when the initial frenzy dies down. And he really did bring the cup home after the drought. He's a made man in winnipeg regardless of how it ended.

  19. For me it has been my favourite 5 year stretch of Bomber football in my time. He brought the pride back to wearing the W. Put a city on his back. Put a franchise on his back. Biggest Hero in franchise history. I can't wait for the ring of honor night and the statue unveiling.

  20. On offense: 4 OL starters QB 3 WR starters so 8 out of 12 on offense 3 DL starters 2 linebacker starters 3 in the secondary so 8 out of 12 starters 16 out of 24 starters from last year is pretty good for a team coming off back to back cups.

  21. I sincerely hope they do well.

  22. Has a CFL team ever had 2 Canadians as their QBs? I mean, after like 1940... that's just nuts.

  23. Ed Tait @EdTaitWFC Kyle Walters said he expects Brandon Alexander, who was injured in the Grey Cup, to be back with the @Wpg_BlueBombers

  24. My only concern now is who do we replace Bob Irving with?!?

  25. I mentioned it before but 16 out of 24 starters, 17 if you count Alexander who is supposed to be likely to sign. Not bad for the back to back champs.

  26. It would be nice if AH33 were still here... But I always think about what happened after 2007. The MO was to keep the team together, and go get a championship next year That DID NOT work out - they clearly retained some players that they needed to move on from I have found this off-season to be a nice balance of retention and recruitment...so far.

  27. Andrew Harris is dead to me until he signs his 1 day contract to retire as a Bomber.

  28. This is Walters' curse. He's responsible for continuing to build a winner and will have to let players like Harris walk at some point. Can't stop rebuilding. We've had our parades and it's time for another Bomber team to earn another. LFG!

  29. They saw him every day 2 months ago... and he couldn't practice like all season. Yes he contributed but he was also a part timer all year. I think at 35 at the position he plays it is fair to wonder about his fitness level for a coming season.

  30. the loss I hate the most is Darby....he was so valuable as can play all over...the other 4 to cfl teams (Jones, Admas, Lawler, Stove) are easier to replace and I feel we have already

  31. Tobi Antigha reunites with Chris Jones in EDM. Maybe he'll even play! I kid, he just didn't make as much impact as I thought he would, I expected we'd use him more.. turns out we didn't have to.

  33. We needed to make a splash at receiver and Ellingson fits the bill. #1 or #2 receiver I don't know if I care. We are a very balanced offense with a great QB and o line Fill the rest of the gaps with scouting. We're in good shape

  34. Don't like losing Darby or Jones, but if there's one place this regime has proven they can find guys at it's defensive back so I won't worry there yet. Mcguire could wind up being the biggest loss of them all if they don't pull a rabbit out of their hat there... Maybe they're putting a bunch of money aside for Streveler? I dunno.

  35. It's not ideal but fans watched their team win 1 whopping home game in 2021. They are picking up solid players, an effort is at least being made to be competitive

  36. Not very often do you see the Grey Cup champs win FA the following year.

  37. Lawler had 300,000 reasons to leave, Stove will get top DT money, and we simply moved on from Harris and Adams due to cost vs diminishing returns. The guys we really NEEDED back all signed back at below market value. We didn't have to get better, we just had to stay ahead. If we don't rest guys and take the last couple weeks off we are basically a one loss team in 2021. We were so much better than anyone else that we could afford to lose a couple guys. Look at the all star team, it was all Bombers...lol.

  38. faaaaaaack....hate losing Jones....

  39. Because he’s that good and won’t count against the cap until he returns. Glad to see it’s likely he’s coming back to Winnipeg. I can’t stress this enough out defense really started coming together once we moved Alexander to safety.

  41. Looks like Ellingson is a done deal.....step one complete

  42. People are being crazy. 5 - 1000 yard seasons in a row and one down year in which he played less games on the worst team in the West which only scored 22 more points then Ottawa during the season. Ellingson - 47/69 68% in 10 games while playing half his games with a rookie and he played against the Winnipeg defense 3 times! Adams - 26/49 53% in 11 games while playing with the MOP on the absolute best team. WTF? I like Adams but if they were to get Ellingson then that's a huge upgrade and helps fill that gap from the loss of Lawler.

  43. Harris is the most complete back I've ever witnessed in the CFL and does the little things so well. He finds holes and is patient when they are developing, always falls forward to get the extra yards, a great leader on the team, an excellent blocker and you always see him talking to guys and getting them in the right positions. I noticed a big dip in all these intangibles when he was out of the lineup. He's not as fast as BO or JA, but I think this year he would still be a better RB. I would love if he would come back with a few less touches and really try to help BO and JA gain some of the intangibles that he has. I'm not sure it would destroy the locker room - O'Shea is amazing at building that up, but I'm sure some players would get a hit of reality that careers are short and business means that sometimes a team turns their back on you, regardless of how tight knit the room is. I know Harris was a big fan of Charles Roberts growing up. Hope he is thinking about how his career ended and our organization keeps that in mind too. Roberts wasn't half the team guy Harris is which would probably sting both sides even more if it ends the same way. All that said, I can totally understand the team not wanting to pay him the amount he has been getting.

  44. I was laughed at when I suggested that letting Harris walk would be the first domino in breaking up the team culture that they've worked so hard to build. The above article is further proof. If he's allowed to walk and there is unrest in the room....it's really really really bad for the present and the future.
