I will say this: During what I will dub "the convoy period" the Canadian Politics chat had an equal number or more posts than the American Politics chat Not even a federal election could generate this much activity I believe this is unprecedented - in the prestigious history of MBB

It would be interesting to know the real actual percentage that accurately reflects this 'division' of Canadian citizens. For arguments sake as an example lets say its 85% who believe in science, public health expertise, social responsibility, multiculturalism, teaching learning from history, the importance public education etc etc whereas 15% think it's all bunk and have done their 'research', the government and the medical field is trying to manipulate and control us, taking away our freedoms, our rights to choose. According to my math, is that really a division?

  6. Gotta wonder if the Elks president Cui would have hired Jones as gm if he’d gotten his job first, because now they’re stuck with him due to money/front office salary cap. The franchise went from inept to bizarro land clown-show in the blink of an eye. Can only imagine how relieved Ellingson is to be out of there.

We need to upgrade school curriculums to not only discuss our government etc but to explain how we are not the USA. First amendment is in the US constitution. He's looking for the second freedom listed under the four fundamental freedoms in our charter. Its in the second section.

Great point about voting apathy. Not suggesting 15% of a 38 million people isn't a significant number to contend with but 85% of 38 million is a much bigger number that tends to suggest resounding majority. Good reminder of the importance to vote for all levels of political office.

  10. Cal was miserly, but remember that the Montreal franchise (the Concorde) folded, Ottawa was hemorrhaging money, the Roughriders were on the verge of bankruptcy and holding telethons, and the CFL was close to closing up shop at the end of 1987 and needed its own TV network because no broadcaster was willing to pick up the games. And the league pilfered the Bomber coffers to keep the other teams alive. Murphy was cheap as much out of necessity as by choice given the debt load the team carried. Which is why he lobbied hard for the Grey Cup to come to Winnipeg and offered to buy the game from the league for a guaranteed sum and keep the profits for itself, which ended up wiping out the $1 million plus debt the club had accumulated. (The league quickly got wise and forced all teams to “buy” the game but raised their purchase fee so that they still made more money than the host most every time). Ironically, for all his penny-pinching, in his last year in 1996 it was revealed shortly after his firing that the Bombers had exceeded the salary cap and were fined.

  12. Matt Nichols went from 3rd string cut adrift to starter among the league leaders. Steven Jyles, albeit a brief stop here, went from 3rd string to leagues best passing rating under Lapo and then quickly regressed after leaving. Hell, even Collaros who had lost his job and was twice traded found his game in Lapo's offence. I get that Lapo's offence is boring and not much fun to watch but I completely disagree that a QB can't flourish in it. In fact, i would suggest it is a perfect system for some QBs to hide their deficiencies in.

We're more divided than I can ever recall as a country. At least that I have seen in my life and it really concerns me for the future. But I also don't see how we can find a common ground with people who believe in conspiracies and claim that mainstream media (and facts in general) are all part of the conspiracy that the rest of the population is too dumb and foolish to see(sheeple).

Early in January, newly hired Edmonton Elks’ head coach and general manager Chris Jones defended the hiring of his former offensive coordinator with the Riders, Stephen McAdoo, by placing the blame for his departure from Saskatchewan on quarterback Cody Fajardo. “I’ll be honest with you, I just look at that and between me and the fence post, I didn’t think Fajardo was a top five guy at quarterback. I know he’s a good runner, I know he’s a winner, but I just don’t see him as a passer,” Jones told Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun. … 🤣😂😂🤣

It's not a division per se, but 15% of 38 million is a large enough number to worry about - it's 5.7 million people When you consider that only 40% of the population votes in most elections - 5.7 million people are not insignificant

And yeah he was in top 3 in 2019 cause he was only starter to basically play all year Same with this yr...if BLM...Masoli or Evans ..Harris...played a full slate..he would have been behind Zack.. Reilly and 3 more guys....plus his efficiency...was horrible...and it was laughable for passed 20 or more yards..what was it..like 6 or something?? Bad News For Trump: 1/6 Rally Organizer Katrina Pierson Testified And Didn’t Plead The Fifth -Facebook Katrina Pierson was the organizer of Trump’s 1/6 rally. Not only did she speak to the 1/6 Committee, but she also didn’t plead the Fifth. 1/6 Rally Organizer Talks To House Select Committee Politico reported: Pierson has detailed knowledge of the rally that preceded the attack. The committee subpoenaed her in late September 2021 for documents and testimony — one in a group of 11 people who helped set up the Ellipse rally. Her interview with the committee came in the weeks after the subpoena was issued, one of the sources said. Everyone Outside Of Trump’s Inner Circle Appears To Be Talking To The 1/6 Committee Pierson is definitely one of the highest level of Trump organizers to speak to the 1/6 Committee. She has a vast amount of knowledge about the organization of the rally that gathered the eventual insurrectionists who attacked the Capitol. The 1/6 Committee isn’t dripping out the information that they are uncovering on a daily basis. Instead, they are talking to a massive amount of people who were in the President’s orbit before, during, and after the 1/6 attack. If Pierson is talking, that is bad news for Trump. .The 1/6 Committee is getting information that they need to put Trump’s coup plot together. Trump demanded total loyalty as president, but he is getting none from the people who are lining up to talk to the 1/6 Committee.

Jordan Klepper Confronts Canadian ‘Freedom Convoy’ Truckers, Finds a Lot of Conspiracy Nuts. The ‘Daily Show’ correspondent ventured to Ottawa to ask the Canadian truckers protesting vaccine mandates why they’re doing it—and found some bizarre characters. Last fall, both the U.S. and Canada lifted vaccination requirements for long-haul truckers in order to combat a series of supply-chain disruptions. Those restrictions were put back in place last month, and ever since, Canadian anti-vaxxers have formed a convoy in protest of COVID-19 vaccine mandates, shutting down roads and harming businesses. The so-called “Freedom Convoy” has become a political flashpoint, given that many of the protesters have no ties to trucking, according to the Canadian Trucking Alliance. It’s been praised by culture war-obsessed right-wing troll-politicians in the U.S. like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and much of the funding for the display has come from right-wing donors in America, with some of the biggest donations given by well-heeled Republican backers. And so, it was the perfect place for The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper to do his thing. Klepper, of course, has garnered a reputation for confronting deranged right-wing Americans, from those storming the Capitol to try to overturn a democratic election on Jan. 6 to childish anti-vax protesters with a fetish for comparing the choice to get a vaccine in order to help prevent a deadly global pandemic that’s killed millions to Nazi Germany. The comedian’s latest “Finger on the Pulse” took him to Ottawa to try to get to the bottom of why these protesters have been making such a fuss. “We don’t live in Germany… We don’t live in Nazi Germany. Those days are over,” one protester told Klepper. “Show me your papers don’t happen anymore. That’s a freedom that everyone should have.” “Is the Germany comparison a stretch here in Canada?” countered Klepper. “No,” he replied. During his segment, Klepper encountered a number of protesters in the convoy who also happen to be Trump supporters—and approached one wearing a QAnon hat. “I see the ‘Q Army’ on your hat. Is Q the American thing trying to find JFK Jr.?” asked Klepper. “Exactly… exactly,” the man replied. Another conspiracy theorist-convoy protester who Klepper came across said, “It’s more than just the vaccine passport and stuff… The Agenda 2030 is a good start… It’s where the world’s headed toward one government. They want to sterilize us that only certain people can have kids.”

That was also the season that Cal put a Coke machine in the locker room & the players had to pay for it which set off a lot of veterans negatively. As well as cementing Cal's reputation of a cheapskate.

The Monroe doctrine enacted in 1823 gives the American government the power to enforce American will anywhere in the Americas. In the 1970's, when the US was going through a bit of a widespread drought, they convened a meeting called "Water For Peace". The invitees were: the US, Mexico and Canada. You can guess who was asked to sign an undertaking allowing the US to take/divert freshwaters. One of the things proposed by the US was that they could dam up the north end of James Bay to raise the level of the bay and force the rivers flowing into it to reverse themselves and raise the level of the Great Lakes so that water could be channeled into the American Southwest. This did not go anywhere, but it does give an insight into American thinking.

We all laugh at this, but I 100% guarantee politicians who have the power to do something like this have thought about it (in more ways than just simply taking over as well). Again it's going to be under the guise of "freedom" just like all their wars etc are. But it's about our resources. Canada HAS to be very careful moving forward. We have a lot of fresh water that the states want. And they WILL be pressing us to get it one way or another. And THIS is exactly how they get these thoughts into the zeitgeist.

  46. The bottom line on fajardo is that he's gone something like 20-6 as a starter vs. the rest of the cfl. That's an absurd win percentage, that's BLM territory. No way anyone who wins that reliably can be a total bum. Alas, this superman has a kryptonite -- the blue bombers. He's just 2-5 vs us and has lost four straight to us. He is a good qb who plays on a frankly dominant football team. But he is not a champion. Because. We. Own. His. Ass.
