He signed with the Stamps on Feb 1st and less than two weeks later he wants them to release him and he's calling them unprofessional? He's talking about professionalism and business on twitter but nobody forced him to sign a contract when it was well known the USFL was coming back. If he had an interest in that, he could have avoided this whole thing by not signing with Calgary until he knew more about what the USFL was offering.7 points -

It was required to clear the protesters... If that's done, the emergency is over and they don't need it anymore. I actually think it's really good that their revoking it so quickly. Takes away the opportunity for those opposed to it to say that Trudeau is abusing his power and taking advantage of the situation.6 points -

They knew what they were doing was against the law by interfering with collective bargaining but went ahead and did it anyway, knowing full well this would be the outcome. But Pallister got to kick that can down the road so it's not his problem although I'm sure he would have preferred the NDP be back in power when the bill came due so the PC's can hang the increased spending on them.3 points -

An apples to apples comparison that doesn't make sense. Russia is a military superpower that just invaded a sovereign nation. Sanctions are a first step to try and deescalate the situation. Escalating it will only lead to more loss of life and destruction.3 points -

Ukraine will fall and Russia will set up a pro Russian government, meanwhile millions are fleeing and thousands will die in a war that nobody not even the Russian people want. This is a war wanted by a crazy dictator who is living in a fantasy world of the past. The bigger problem is what happens if he decides that he wants parts of Poland and Lithuania3 points -
It's a good thing we in a position where we aren't desperate for all our picks to pan out...I'm not too worried about that league to be honest...gonna have minimal if any effect in the CFL...the good players will still all be in NFL and CFL...3 points

Few weeks ago "Russian paratroopers have been sent to Kazakhstan at the request of its president to help "stabilise" the country. They were sent under the authority of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) - a group of countries comprising Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, which was set up after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It's thought 2,500 soldiers have been deployed, from across the CSTO's member states but mostly from Russia." BBC hard to remember this stuff, Putin was initially elected. "Some others, including David Satter, Yury Felshtinsky, Vladimir Pribylovsky and Alexander Litvinenko, as well as the secessionist Chechen authorities, claimed that the 1999 bombings were a false flag attack coordinated by the FSB in order to win public support for a new full-scale war in Chechnya, which boosted the popularity of Prime Minister and former FSB Director Vladimir Putin, brought the pro-war Unity Party to the State Duma in the 1999 parliamentary election, and secured Putin as president within a few months" wiki 25000 civilian casualties second chechen war.2 points

yup...its more true than not....they need their fill of recognizeable and mainstream ball....follow the masses, and upstart leagues....regardless of what they are classified as don't feed the need other than that of the fans of former college stars who get that final stab at ball, where they aren't ever gonna make an NFL or CFL roster..always has been that way and always will...the one real chance they has to succeed was the original USFL....BUT...Donald Trump ruined it for them, and no league will ever get back to the point of their almost making it2 points

So the usfl drafted a db under contract with the stamps. They claim to have rectified this after the fact. But now the db is mad at the Stamps for not letting him go. The usfl has put the cfl in a position where they need to take action. The db is under contract to think he should also be eligible for usfl draft is idiotic.2 points -

my guesses: a) It looks terrible for Trudeau if his cabinet declares an emergency and the elected government doesn't even review it. The vote gives legitimacy to a legitimately controversial thing and was conducted in accordance with the law, which may be important for future legal action related to the occupation. So Parliament has to vote. b) off-camera investigations / actions may have been facilitated by the Emergency Act -- remember the government is extremely interested in the financing of the occupation. Might have needed a couple of days to get those closed out. c) with the Q-trucker occupation banished and its leaders defanged, Trudeau is the main character of this storyline. "Ottawa calm but Trudeau Clings To Emergency Act" is not a headline the dude wants to own. Now the headline is "Trudeau ends Emergency Act" which is the outcome that most Canadians want, I think. Trudeau looks decisive; he rides to the rescue of the feckless Ottawa and Ontario authorities and then he dusts his hands, proclaims mission accomplished, and Canadians are free to tune out. For better or for worse, voters like decisiveness and clean endings. d) the wingers were pumping a fever dream of a Castroist Trudeau unleashing a cultural revolution backed by Bill Gates, grandma-trampling RCMP horses and genderqueer BLM vaxx squads. This is a hard storyline to work when your vile dictator has relinquished his emergency powers in accordance with the law. Lots of winger spin rooms getting a workout today; the one I see most frequently on twitter is how the ending of the Act is a profound diss to Jagmeet Singh. conservatives concern trolling about Singh is hilarious. e) Senate vote was a big opportunity for opportunist senators to grandstand and give the Liberals more headaches. This has been defused. I don't know if this was a credible threat given how sleepy the Senate is, but the right wing media was sure pumping the tires on this angle so maybe it had legs. You need characters to do a storyline like this and the cons don't have anyone good; Lich and King and the rest of them were swivel-eyed goons, Candice Bergen is clearly in over her head and has no idea how to manage a story of this magnitude, Ford in Toronto isn't going to rock any boats with an election coming, Randy Hillier has strong "jerks off to the Handmaids Tale" energy, etc, etc.2 points -

Not true but not false either, they have not been historically interested enough in these leagues to make them financially viable. That is a fact. Attendance in every incarnation of the spring leagues has been abysmal and TV ratings poor. Could some of these leagues build themselves into viability eventually, maybe, but it would take billionaire ownership of each franchise to do it because it would take years to even get to a break even point and would hemmorhage money before that. It's a business model that just doesn't work in it's market. Proven time and time again.1 point -

Jerry Jones said that NFL owners feel that the NCAA is the greatest feeder league in the world and it would be wasted money for NFL owners to pay for one. This is when he was directly asked if NFL owners had any interest in propping up the AAF. That was 3 years ago. I can't possibly see what would have changed their mind from then to now. He even stated that there are more than enough NFL ready prospects coming out of the NCAA and that development after college is a waste of time as the majority of players only have a 5 or 6 year window out of college. He stated that is why the NFL expanded their PRs and PR eligibility and that NFL teams develop players far better this way than in a different league. I do not foresee an instance where the NFL provides any meaningful financial assistance to the USFL or XFL, and I see no chance of either being financially viable on their own. Dobson signed a contract that is highly unlikely to be valid or in place after it's first season. Every time one of these fly by night rinky dink spring leagues pop up the CFL writers predict doom and gloom, and every time they fold and hundreds of players are out there looking for work.1 point -

It's more nuanced than you're framing it, though. And it's not just Biden's decision, anyway. There are allies within NATO and representatives in the EU and G7 with whom the US has to collaborate in order to respond. A measured approach is how you prevent this conflict from getting worse; going in guns blazing does the opposite. And the latter is exactly what Putin wants.1 point -
