CERB faced some minor abuse that can and will be traced. AG has suggested an audit and review. People will always try to take advantage, especially in an emergency situation. But CERB kept the economy going, kept people in their homes and there really wasn't anything else to do. Certainly no reasonable alternative was proposed.

Since when is anything done until the entire world is ready for it? Same person who complains that EV's aren't a solution because they can't be built fast enough ignores the reason they can't be built fast enough is due to high demand from consumers.

I watched a good report by DW documentary ( German ) on the switch from fossil fuels. Part of it was about Norway who has built up a huge slush fund from their North Sea oil . They are now using that fund to move away from fossil fuels. The Gov there is building or at least supporting the building of charging stations. They have also removed the sales tax from electric vehicles. Meanwhile our oil money has been frittered away.

    Covid-19

Bingo, bango, bongo. Due to this pandemic that has killed scores of human beings and people's livelihoods, I, with many others, have severely overestimated a segment of the world's population's ability to grasp/accept/understand etc etc etc what is involved (which really isn't much in developed countries like Canada) in being a socially responsible citizen under the guidance of well respected infectious disease/health experts while still keeping our individual rights and freedoms intact.

As a Canadian with a good job and financial security, I care little for the suffering going on in 3rd world countries. I have clean running water and access to abundant food and health care. I'm not sure why developing countries need any financial support. I'm over it.

Things Conservatives are very good at: 1. Ignoring government spending, deficit, debt, when in power. 2. Shouting about it when out of power. 3. Being unable to comprehend this inconsistency. Remember **** cheney ? "Deficits dont matter" Should have finished the sentence with "when im doing the spending" harper deficits were very large. Same Manitoba conservatives. manitoba ndp under doer had a balanced budget. its not the spending they care about. Its who gets the money. See: Trump. They do not want some of the government spending. They want all of it.

This pandemic has never been about us as individuals but about society as a collective. It'll never cease to amaze me how many selfish assholes are out there thinking this is about them. This is about everyone else around us, and has been since the beginning. Nothing is over until the virus says it's over.

The liberals absolutely did not squander oil money. Since natural resources are provincial it is the provinces predominantly gaining financially from oil and gas. None moreso than Alberta with it's near half century of conservative rule... how's the heritage fund looking? Awwwww crap. Now granted they kept our taxes low so yay for that... but it might have been nice to have more savings in the bank for those rainy days. Please God, just one more boom, I promise not to piss it away this time

    Covid-19

As a person with some empathy for others, it has much less to do with personal concern than concern about people on waiting lists for health care, the immunocompromised, those with long COVID, kids under 5, teachers, nurses, doctors, home care workers etc. Being "over it" isn't going to make it go away. Being over it is just going to extend the significant challenges the world is facing.

Again, Canada has done much better economically throughout the pandemic than most nations in the developed world. Our inflation numbers are some of the best and the unemployment numbers released today, less than pre-pandemic levels, suggest good things on the horizon. Canada adds 337K jobs in February, unemployment drops below pre-pandemic levels - National | Globalnews.ca Many of the provinces, especially prairie provinces, are decreasing spending and calling in the feds to help, which they have done throughout the pandemic. A recent example of this is Manitoba going "post-Covid" while still requiring federal emergency help to deal with high Covid counts. If you want to talk mismanagement, the prairie provinces passing the buck is a good place to start.

On youtube their is a guy with a tesla in Regina and he maps out how it handles in winter, the mileage he gets and overall experiences. He shows how it handles being started after a night of being left out in -30 weather and how it handles road trips. It does work very well with the only obvious issue being that the battery during the frigid times in winter usually only get about 60% compared to how it handles in nice weather.

So I found out about this website: http://www.albertaev.ca/faqs/ (Alberta Electric Vehicle Association) and there's some interesting stuff incl: How do EV's handle winter? Incredibly well! Most EVs have a number of advantages over other vehicles. There is never a fear that they won’t turn start, even on the coldest days. As there is no oil, there is no worry that it becomes too cold and thick, nor is there a concern about a 12V battery getting too weak, failing to turn the engine over, or the starter motor failing. No more need to stand outside on a frigid morning refueling the vehicle at a gas station! It takes just a second to plug an EV in at the end of the day, and it will be full and ready to go well before you are the next day! Perhaps the best part of winter EV ownership is that they heat up super fast! Not relying on the waste heat of the gasoline engine, most EVs instead use resistance heating, which generates heat nearly instantly. Yes this does consume a bit of battery, but even with any range impact, almost all EVs easily handle the Canadian average daily driving instance. Additionally, as next generation EVs are coming to market, with their larger batteries and thus increased range, the impact of winter range loss is quickly becoming a moot point even for drivers that greatly exceed daily driving averages.

Do not worry, our Health Minister is an optimist: Manitoba Health Minister Audrey Gordon said she did not envision more cases at all. "I tend to have a very positive outlook. I wake up every day that way and I walk through the day that way," she told reporters. "I'm going to continue with that optimism, not just for myself, but for all Manitobans, that we will continue to see the trend decreasing once the mask mandate is removed on the 15th."

Not just oil money. This current government has a spending problem and before Trudeau's acolytes try to come to his defence, I will simply advise them to go look at his yearly deficits and ask them where did the money go? I haven't seen it. Doesn't pass the eyeball test to me, and I am far from alone in that belief.

Most EVs can be programmed to warm up while still plugged in and draw power for it directly from the charger. There is a loss of range in cold weather. That is indisputable no matter what Elon claims. There have been numerous independant cold weather tests from independant consumer auto testers and you lose 15-20% range. However with a stage 2 charge nightly that only matters for heavy use or long trips.
