2021/22 - CFL Offseason - Non-Back-to-Back Grey Cup Champion Thread

I'd think it would be too soon for the new owner to be pushing something like that. He, by his own admission, has been pretty quiet so far as he learns the ropes. He has also said he feels the league's biggest issues are off the field. "The game is excellent. The product — there’s nothing wrong with it. The league does not need surgery, it needs attention, and it needs fan base and needs passion,” said Doman. “This is deeper than a business turnaround. This is engaging people. This is getting advertising and marketing back to a high level."9 points -

I like the hash marks idea, the rest is garbage. CFL needs to focus on marketing to younger fans, really pushing fantasy and the gambling pieces.7 points -

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed Canadian lineman Ben Koczwara and American defensive back Corey Straughter, it was announced Friday. Kocwara was selected No. 67 overall by the Bombers in the 2018 CFL Draft and spent time with the Toronto Argonauts during the 2021 season. He previously played four seasons at the University of Waterloo. The 21-year-old Straughter went undrafted following three seasons at Louisiana-Monroe. He signed as a free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year but was released at the end of August. He led the Sun Belt Conference with five interceptions and 15 passes defenced in 2019.3 points

No, no, it's okay when O&G companies gouge us. Point all your hate at Trudeau, he's some sort of villain.3 points -
Yep. The refs are often soo slow offenses have go wait when trying to go hurry up. They kill any attempt to run hurry up out side of the final minutes.2 points

An NFL quality fantasy system would do so much [but is likely impossible because of the lack of teams/players]2 points -
My guess is that it's the owners in Toronto and Montreal pushing for it.2 points

All this burger talk, picked up some fresh ground chuck and going throw burgers down over some charcoal tomorrow. Just a little too much snow in the charge to do smash burgers on the wood fired Teppan grill.2 points

Hagel has 2 seasons after this one. Chevy needs to start a bidding war on Copp and Stastny. And Dillon and Schmidt. Schmidt is probably easier in the off season.2 points -

One thing I'll say about Ambrosie is that our GC record is pretty good under his watch so he's got that going for him.2 points -

I'm good for anything that will utilize a very underutilized Drew Wolitarski. He's a great receiver but is wasting away. Right now, the guy who would be a great Commissioner would be Mark Cohon. He understands the CFL, the fans & how to market our game. Dark day when he left.1 point -

Good points. With the time it takes them to whistle the play in, they are often past 40 seconds, by the time the ball is snapped. Singles I think should be limited to kickoffs and punts.1 point -

FantasEh was where CFL fantasy peaked, though it was far from perfect. TSN fantasy gets traffic because it's the only reliable CFL fantasy around, not because it's especially 'good'. A quality fantasy site would go a very long way in bringing in fans1 point -

I agree. Maurice probably the covid played a role and the family situation not really being able to see them really. The rest is bang on in my opinion.1 point

Jets making moves to make moves today Copp Stastny Dillon all mentioned Colorado Boston like Copp Justin Barron be a nice RHD prospect Ves sent down is interesting. Signing a journeyman ahl goalie is interesting too. Wonder if Berdin is moved in a trade also. Obviously a throw in.. Sounds like the Jets are embracing the sell now but not giving totally up on the season. Copp Stastny Dillon and others... I'm assuming others are ves maybe Berdin types and not anyone big time1 point

It's likely the system they run that plays a role1 point

Who knows.... they either dont want to get in there and protect the goalie or they are not told to do it. ( doubt it ) big is not it.... although in buff's prime, opponents forwards were definitely playing differently, when he was on the ice. Never going to see another player like him on the jets. now..... zero respect shown by opponents in the jets end. but duncan keith isnt big. Dont think he played like these guys. Much of the team seems to play with their head up their ass.... then light goes on for a few minutes. no cut contracts. . Not many of of these guys are playing for a job. What coach can get a top forward to play d if he doesnt want to? Players get more money, more adulation, are harder to replace than a coach. cant be fired. = Problem. fans paying what they pay to see the team at the rink, must be right pissed off when they see the kind of b.s. the players pull off. The fact that maurice just gave up, has to tellyou something about the attitude of at least some of players.1 point

I don't understand this bull **** about lack of scoring and boring play. Ambrosie is a tool, the CFL games are exciting even if scoring is a bit lower. He needs to watch xfl 2.0 and the other fly by league and see just how terrible 4 down football can be. It's not like the CFL is full of 2 and outs and punts and nothing else.1 point

If we all have high scoring games then fans will say the league has no defense & is unwatchable. 49-49 games aren't the answer either.1 point -
I like watching a dominant defense but I didn't always. In my youth, I was a pure offense guy. I barely paid attention to the plays the defense was running. I didn't even learn much about coverage until I played Madden and, even then, I would often just take the recommended play. All this to say, that I understand why offense is the focus. I understand that it helps sell the game to the more casual fans. The NFL, right this moment, has probably the most talented and most entertaining group of QBs ever and the CFL doesn't.1 point

I don't mind moving the hash marks in, but I don't expect that will result in anything more than higher FG %.1 point

I see the problem as this... Everytime they look at "growing the game" the only voices they ask are the ones that are just NFL fans. Of course they'll tell you they want 4 downs, it's what they watch. They never ask the CFL fans how to grow the game. They don't advertise. They're partners just want to sell off the league. Then they get mouthpieces like Farhan and Naylor, who have a vested interest in pushing the league south, out there waving their hands. The CFL, as a league, seem uderrly bewildered on how to grow the CFL. It's embarrassing.1 point -
