  1. I see the NFL didn't consider changing something as fundamental as the number of downs... all these media types need to get off their own dicks trying to make the cfl a shittier Northern nfl
    6 points
  2. There are a number of rules that all work hand in hand with the 3 downs. The field size, the clock in the CFL, the number of players. All of these things work together to balance out the game. If they are going to want to change any of those things, there better be a clear hypothesis as to why, then test it out in either exhibition or CIS before bringing it to the main game. Change like this for the sake of change will alienate existing fans and not likely bring in the flood of new fans they want.

  3. I'm fine with the harsh marks change. I don't like a 100 yard field. I like the rougue since it adds to the return game. 4 downs is a no way. Farhan is terrible.

  4. The CFL has never tweaked their rules, right? https://cfldb.ca/rulebook/rule-changes/

  5. I have not seen a single "traditional" CFL fan complain about the proposed changes to the hash marks? Anyone else?

  6. I don't like changing the dimensions of the field. That's a big change. Look everyone wants the CFL to thrive, but most of the pushback to proposed changes has little to do with the changes themselves and more the fact that there is the perception that the league is only trying to find an easy fix to get asses in the stands and eyes on TV. Which isn't going to happen. The game is already exciting, if people aren't watching it is for other reasons that the league needs to address first.

  7. I would say that moving 2nd base is equivalent to moving the hashmarks. Going to 4 downs would be like going to 4 outs, or 4 strikes. If those changes were being proposed for baseball, you can sure as hell expect fans to be up in arms about it.

  8. If we're going to change the field size it should be to 100 Meters. Uniquely Canadian. Still 110 yards. My personal rule change never gets brought up: Missed FG that goes through the endzone without being touched = zero points. Allows for missed FG's to be run back, but doesn't reward misses with a single point unless you can tackle the returner in the endzone. IMO the CFL is going about this all wrong. The rules are great as is. Changing rules won't get more fans in the stands or more fans watching on TV & that's what the CFL needs.

  9. I think moving the hash marks in. Kickoffs from deeper in your own end. I think would be a good start for this year.

  13. What can you even say about that guy at this point. IF he truly does not understand the push back against 3 downs, I'm certain he never will. He can point to other leagues changing rules and pretend like the CFL never does that all he wants. But he's just making himself look completely out of touch with the CFL and like a bit of a clown as well.

  14. I'm not AS averse to 100yd field as I am to reducing the number of Canadian players, but I'd still prefer 110. There's something special about the fact that our field is so much bigger (length and width) than the NFL field that makes it seem "tougher" to me.... like our game is tougher to play. I dig that and don't want to change it.

Hard to know what is fact on putin debacle, but this sounds like a mess: 😂 "pen and paper system, postal mail" https://www.aviation24.be/amp/ "A powerful and effective cyberattack on the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) infrastructure that took place on Saturday morning has erased all documents, files, aircraft registration data and mails from the servers. In total, about 65 terabytes of data was erased. The news became known on Monday morning, the agency’s official website (favt.ru) went also down. Officially, the Russian Federation does not confirm anything but blamed it on temporary lack of access to internet and a malfunction of the electronic document flow system of Rosaviatsia that they switched over to a (pen and) paper version: information exchange will be carried out via AFTN channel (for urgent short message) and postal mail. It is alleged that the attack occurred due to poor performance of contractual obligations by company LLC “InfAvia”, which operates the IT infrastructure of Rosaviatsia. “The prosecutor’s office and the FSB have been sitting at Rosaviatsia since Saturday,” said a person familiar with the case. (putin seems to have stolen everything possible) The authorities are now looking for a backup, if any. The Aviation Herald wrote that no backup of these data exists due to lack of funds allocated by Russia’s Ministry of Finance."

  18. I'd rather the CFL try bumping the season up a month over adding an extra down. Maybe attendance might be a tad higher towards the end of the season if that was the case.

  19. The point isn't for missing the field goal, the point is for kicking the ball through the endzone. I like the rouge purely for a quirky thing about the CFL.

  21. Me too. And I hate 7 inning baseball. They got to make changes though. Pitch clocks time out limits and robot umps I'd like to see. I'm sick to death of the angel hernandez type refs and 15 minutes for a 20 pitch inning. At this point every thing should be tried in st

  23. Farhan is a professional cfl $%&^ poster. I haven't seen push back on any change talks other than have nis and 3 down football. In general cfl fans are far more open to change than NFL or mlb fans. It's not even close go to any spring training facility any year and you will hear belly aching about inter league play dh and home field advantage. Mlb fans are the most resistant to change of any pro league.

Again being hyper sensitive to calling things what they actually are, instead of saying 7 hour gap of records, call it 7 hours of missing or possibly destroyed legally obtained evidence. That alone is a crime regardless of innocence or guilt of other matters that the evidence will show or not show.

  25. I don't quite understand the kickoff thing, like what's the point? Most drives gotta start around the 30 already no? I would also like to point out that the NFL made rule changes to make their game more like the CFL...

  26. I don't have a fundamental problem with changing the length of the field from 110 to 100 yards. A change in the width of the field would play a more significant role changing the game, IMO. The width could impact each play, where as the length would only impact the game on a more macro level. Possibly allowing more scoring? This may reduce the number of plays before scoring.

  27. Shortening the field is an example of a big change that *could* have benefits without changing the game too much. It would get push back, but fans would be open to it if the benefits were clear. 4 downs is something different entirely.

  28. Yes… Or ‘don’t be afraid of change’.

  29. This is a great point. I think it's a reasonable requirement that any proposed changes come with rationale other than saying 'to improve the game'.

  30. Farhan goes onto explain himself a bit. I haven't seen much pushback against 100 yard fields but I didn't think that they were really considering that. Instinctively, I am against the change but it probably wouldn't hurt the league. I like the rouge, so I am not in favour of eliminating it. But, what is the impact on the game, if they did remove it? How much does the strategy change?

  32. heh.... I tweeted almost the identical take. It was a trash comparison by Farhan, who clearly wants NFL-North. Changing # of downs and Canadians is akin to changing # balls and strikes in MLB. It's a fundamental change that would be wholly unwelcome. Absurd.

When you look at the performance of the Russian military, its not hard to imagine that the GRU could screw this up. Besides, the point may have been to scare off negotiators so as to give the military time to complete their sweep of Ukraine.

Domestic assault charges that were placed against Wab in 2003 were stayed by the crown. That doesn't make him innocent necessarily, but let's be clear that these are unproven allegations that GCn20 is referring to. To this day Wab denies hitting or throwing the woman at the center of these allegations (her name is out there publicly in the papers but I'll not put it here out of respect). As for his other charges stemming from fights with cabbies and impaired driving, he has unequivocally apologized for pain he's caused directly or collaterally and has even been pardoned for both convictions. He straight up acknowledges he wasn't a great guy in his teens and twenties and his struggles with alcohol certainly exacerbated it. Since his parents helped him enter into rehabilitation he has reportedly stayed clean and sober and has not had any incidents with the law. He's attended AA as well as embracing more 'traditional methods' involving sweat lodges and fasting. He committed to making himself a better person and so far it seems to be working, in my opinion. A quote: "These are not episodes in my life I'm proud of," Kinew said. "I struggled with alcohol, and that caused me to behave in ways that weren't healthy for me, or those around me. When the alcohol stopped, so did the fights. Violence, racism, and sexism are unacceptable. I've apologized unequivocally, and I do so again: to anyone I harmed, I am sorry. "Because of my past, I understand the challenges of young people in our society who are struggling with the same things I was — alcohol, addictions, anger. I know that they can do better, because I learned how to do better," Kinew said. https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1048866371651/ Above, a CBC interview very pointedly asking him about the charges when they resurfaced thanks to some anonymous tips during the leadership race vs COVID jet-setter Nikki Ashton

The thing is Wab hasn't owned it at all despite the fact the woman he abused has come forward and even has proof of the injuries she sustained. This is why he is not well liked in the native community. His ex is a pretty respected member of the native community and our people believe her. Just stupid. These people had the right to gather and protest. In fact, I am glad they did. They just did it very stupidly and selfishly and I am glad they will face the consequences of such moronic protest planning.
