Germany intercepts Russians’ talk of indiscriminate killings in Ukraine BERLIN — Germany’s foreign intelligence service claims to have intercepted radio communications in which Russian soldiers discuss carrying out indiscriminate killings in Ukraine. In two separate communications, Russian soldiers described how they question soldiers as well as civilians and then shoot them, according to an intelligence official familiar with the findings who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity. The findings, first reported by the German magazine Der Spiegel and confirmed by three people briefed on the information, further undermine Russia’s denials of involvement in the carnage. Russia has claimed variously that atrocities are being carried out only after its soldiers leave occupied areas or that scenes of massacres of civilians are “staged.” Images from Bucha, a suburb near the Ukrainian capital, have become symbols of the war’s atrocities and galvanized calls for probes into possible war crimes. One person said the radio messages are likely to provide greater insight into suspected atrocities in other towns north of Kyiv that had been held by Russian soldiers. -Washington Post4 points -

Which is bonkers because he has been fighting alongside the black community (among other marginalized communities) since his youth. Here he is at 21 getting arrested for his participation in a civil rights protest in Chicago. They were protesting 'Willis-Wagons', essentially cheap unadorned aluminum trailers that were dumped into vacant lots and parks throughout black communities as a solution for their housing crisis. This is exactly what the authoritarian-leaning (Regressives) politicians and their backers want you to think, so congratulations - you've done it! Distrust in government keeps people from voting, participating in - and valuing democracy itself. People who don't know who to trust end up relying on people to tell them who to trust and that makes them ripe for authoritarian leadership. I'll take this time to remind you that Progressives are the ones trying to get more people to vote, while the Regressives work hard to prevent as many people as possible from doing the same thing. There is a connection that most people capable of critical thought can recognize.3 points

Sometimes I just wonder if everyone around the table laughed when someone suggested they say they tell the press they have improved the data released by only letting people know what is relevant. I'm sure there were people around the table that scoffed and thought Manitobans are never dumb enough to believe that, but I guess consensus thought they could hide data and convince Manitobans it was better that way. I'd think its obvious to just about everyone that they are deliberately hiding data in order to hide how bad of a job they're doing and prevent their reputation from going down even further. To think they can fool Manitobans shows just how poorly they think of us. They have the information and are trying to convince us that its better we don't have it despite how that may affect our health-related decisions and knowledge of how bad our hospital situation is. But our Minister of Health is planning 'couch visits' with her constituents (yes, literally bringing a couch around with her so people can meet with her in parks) 😆 - Couching health-care criticisms - Winnipeg Free Press2 points

My recommendation.... don't go to DQ at all. The quality of the ice cream is absolutely terrible. Visit the local small shops and you will have significantly better "blizzards" that use real ice cream and they also have a wide variety of toppings. The high content of water in the ice cream basically makes anything from DQ melt the instant that they give it to you. Meanwhile when I go to Sweet Tops, Sub Zero, Cool Encounters.... it doesn't turn into a wet mess within seconds. My kids can actually eat cones without me needing to grab 20 napkins lol.2 points -

Biden signed the American Rescue Plan, a sweeping $1.9 trillion package, into law in early March. The series of measures -- which make up one of the most consequential pieces of legislation in decades intended to bolster the US' recovery from the coronavirus pandemic -- included stimulus payments of up to $1,400 per person for about 90% of American households, a $300 federal boost to weekly jobless benefits and an expansion of the child tax credit of up to $3,600 per child. In his first hours after he was inaugurated, Biden halted funding for the construction of Trump's border wall, reversed his travel ban targeting largely Muslim countries and embraced progressive policies on the environment and diversity that Trump spent four years blocking. Biden also reversed several of Trump's attempts to withdraw from international agreements, beginning the process of rejoining the Paris climate accord and halting the United States' departure from the World Health Organization. And he imposed a mask mandate in federal buildings, a symbolic break with Trump's handling of the pandemic. Not to mention the Build Back Better Act - not his fault he can't get it passed because Manchin, Sinema and Republican Senators are self-serving morons. Offers universal and free preschool for all 3- and 4-year-olds, the largest expansion of universal and free education since states and communities across the country established public high school 100 years ago. Makes the largest investment in child care in the nation’s history, saving most American families more than half of their spending on child care.Delivers affordable, high-quality care for older Americans and people with disabilities in their homes, while supporting the workers who provide this care.Provides 39 million households up to $3,600 (or $300 per month) in tax cuts per child by extending the American Rescue Plan’s expanded Child Tax Credit. Delivers substantial consumer rebates and tax credits to reduce costs for middle class families shifting to clean energy and electrification. Advances environmental justice through a new Clean Energy and Sustainability Accelerator that will invest in projects around the country, while delivering 40% of the benefits of investment to disadvantaged communities, as part of the President’s Justice40 initiative. Reduces prescription drug costs. Makes the single largest and most comprehensive investment in affordable housing in history. Expands access to affordable, high-quality education beyond high school. Stops large, profitable corporations from paying zero in tax and tax corporations that buyback stock rather than invest in the company. Stops rewarding corporations for shipping jobs and profits overseas. Asks the highest income Americans to pay their fair share. https://www.whitehouse.gov/build-back-better/2 points

Here is another report from Der Spiegel about what @Tracker was talking about https://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/possible-evidence-of-russian-atrocities-german-intelligence-intercepts-radio-traffic-discussing-the-murder-of-civilians-in-bucha-a-0a191c96-634f-4d07-8c5c-c4a772315b0d "The radio traffic intercepted by the BND makes it seem as though the atrocities perpetrated on civilians in Bucha were neither random acts nor the product of individual soldiers who got out of hand. Rather, say sources familiar with the audio, the material suggests that the troops spoke of the atrocities as though they were simply discussing their everyday lives." And more... "DER SPIEGEL has learned that more intercepted radio traffic is currently being analyzed, though it is apparently difficult to precisely localize some of the audio. Some of the recordings apparently indicate that incidents such as those in Bucha have also taken place elsewhere. There are reportedly indications of potential atrocities in the area surrounding Mariupol, the large city in southern Ukraine that has been besieged by the Russian military."2 points -

TNSE purchaed all the 1.0 logos and designs way back when: https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2011/10/06/nostalgia-in-a-holding-pattern-true-north-buys-old-jets-logos/ That decision allowed TNSE to create the two Heritage Classic jerseys released in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Are the Republicans more corrupt and disgusting than the Democrats ? Absolutely ! Are the Republicans less Democratic? Absolutely ! But to suggest the current Democratic party is anywhere close to progressive is wrong. As I said a short while ago look what happened when a progressive candidate challenged for the leadership of the party backed by a massive ground swell of young, grassroot support. He was squashed by a rush of corporate dollars to Hillary's campaign. I will give you that the world is far safer without a bunch of neo-nazis fascists in power and therefore I'd always rather see the Dems in power. But progressive ? No way.2 points -

Again you're being too kind. Like they care if we thrive or not. There is a concerted effort to hide valuable information from us in order to make them look better and get on forgetting Covid exists. Not sure if I hope this or not, but it would be pretty deserving to have one of those in power who have decided to withhold information get a really bad case of Covid. Somewhat concerned about the reports of younger kids with lingering symptoms with my baby. I remember reading from Mayo Clinic that kids under 1 are in the same risk level as 40-50 year olds (could be wrong, but its close to that at least). Hope all your kids make a full rebound quickly.2 points -

Bernie had a lot of things working against him and timing is the main one. The majority of people weren't/aren't ready for "radical" change to the left because progressives suck at selling their good ideas. Everyone has been convinced since the 70's that taxes are bad and the government is bad. Again, the messaging needs to explain the long-term savings gained by progressive measures. For instance, it's cheaper to educate than incarcerate. It's cheaper to implement environmental controls than clean up the messes left behind. I also think his supporters rubbed a lot of people the wrong way by attacking fellow Democrats with more ferocity than the Republican Party. He calls himself (accurately) a Socialist/Social Democrat when a lot of people are scared by "that" word. The Republicans seem to have a monopoly on anger. It's admirable for Trump/Cruz/Gaetz to be angry, but it's something that makes Sanders "radical". This will all get better with time (if SCOTUS is corrected), but it's getting there. A politician could not even refer to themselves as a "liberal" during Obama's 1st term and yet it is now acceptable.1 point

Canada might regret being transition laggards: New German transition plan, effective July 1st 2022: "The package envisages green energy accounting for 80% of the power mix in Europe's biggest economy by 2030, up from about 40% now and a previous target of 65%. "On the one hand, the climate crisis is coming to a head. On the other hand, Russia's invasion shows how important it is to phase out fossil fuels and promote the expansion of renewables," Habeck told reporters. The legislation includes a new clause acknowledging that the use of renewables is in the interests of public security." Reuters.
