  2. It's a scarcity problem. You pay Canadian backups more because there are less of them. Need a new American linebacker? Or receiver? Go down to the pound and get a new one. Need Canadian depth? Well if you don't have it you will be scraping the bottom of a barrel to get something.

    Top 5 Bomber QBs

During the 1974 season, Don Jonas was unhappy with new Head Coach Bud Riley taking the play calling away from him & giving it to his OC. Riley said qbs had enough things to worry about on the field & playcalling shouldn't be one of them. Besides, Riley said that the game was changing & more responsibilities were being given to coaches when it came to play calling. Turns out Riley was right as today no qb calls his own game. But Jonas was a throwback to another time & he felt he was the one who should call the plays not an assistant on the sidelines so there was a major clash there. With the Bombers struggling on the field, GM Earl Lunsford felt it was his duty to open his big yap of a pie hole to the local media & he too criticized Jonas for throwing some ill timed interceptions early in that 1974 season. Jonas took exception to that & in an article published by the Winnipeg Tribune's Sports Editor & Bomber beat writer jack Matheson in mid August, he criticized Riley for changing the playcalling from what he was used to. When it came to Lunsford in the same article, Jonas was quoted by Matheson as saying something about Lunsford not having a clue about how the offense worked, not knowing the plays, never sitting in on film or qb meetings, that he should stick to managing the team & mind his own business. Lunsford was angered & set out to trade Jonas just to show him Who Was The Boss. A couple of weeks later, the trade was made & he was off to Hamilton for Chuck Ealey. One thing a player didn't do was cross Lunsford as he was a vindictive man. A number of players including Jonas found that out. Jonas knew something was up. About a week before the trade was consumated he went in to talk to Lunsford to try to smooth the waters. He said he was willing to step aside as the starter to play Brock. That he would like to mentor the young QB as a player-coach & that he wanted to end his career as a Bomber. Lunsford had made up his mind to trade what he felt was the "malcontent" veteran qb & nothing Jonas said made a difference.

  5. Nature of the position. DL is reactive to the play. OL is proactive with blocking assignments & chemistry. Switching guys in & out messes with that as well as timing on offensive plays. There's a reason why no one does subbing on the OL anywhere. I don't think it'd work out that well.

The nuGen haul truck started life as a Komatsu 930E with a diesel-electric powertrain, in which a 16-cylinder engine acted as a generator to power the truck's electric traction motors. Now, that diesel engine is gone, and the haul truck's traction motors are powered by eight 100 kW hydrogen fuel cell modules from Ballard and a lithium-ion battery pack from Williams Advanced Engineering capable of outputting 1.1 MW, integrated by First Mode in Seattle. 👀Peak power for the fuel cell powertrain is 2 MW (2,682 hp), which is sufficient for the haul truck to retain its 300-metric-ton (661,000-lb) payload rating. When fully laden, the massive truck and its payload will tip the scales at 510 metric tons (1.1 million lbs). second article "SEATTLE, April 03, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- First Mode, a design, engineering, and complex-system development firm, today announced it has exited stealth mode to bring the tools and technologies of deep space exploration to challenging industrial problems around the globe. The company, formerly known as Synchronous, was founded in early 2018 by engineers, scientists, and strategists from companies including NASA, JPL, Spaceflight Industries, Boeing, Intel, and Planetary Resources. With extensive experience designing and operating robotic systems on the surface of Mars, the company has been testing their unique approach on projects and industries ahead of making the company’s services publicly available." ..... first mode made the engine. 12. I hear you guys. To be clear if nothing changed with the ratio I'd obviously be fine with that, too. I'm arguing for more money for imports, less for backup Canadian OL and LB just cuz they're Canadian. I trust everyone follows this logic by now, even if they don't agree with me. I'm glad Speed brought up Bighill, he is a fantastic example. Which backup Canadian deserves more than him... on merit alone, and not nationality. There is none.

  17. In closure, Jonas lived full time in Winnipeg. When the 1974 season ended Jonas returned here. He was disappointed the way things worked out with the Bombers & didn't want to play another season with the Ti Cats so he retired. He & his wife decided to return to Orlando, Fla. Before he left a huge farewell dinner was held in their honour. Everyone in Winnipeg who was someone attended. Federal, provincial & civic politicians, media, sports figures like Bobby Hull, fans & local business people were all there to say goodbye. All except the Bomber coaches & management. They were all invited but they never came.

I kinda get that you're really angry and want to say **** like that 2) How can we justify that the back up Canadian is making more than the back up American? Because it's OUR. *******. LEAGUE. This is the CANADIAN football league. Preference, in some way shape or form, should always be given to the Canadian players, coaches, etc...

Y'know what would make my bomber fan heart glow blue? Someday being able to add Collaros / Streveler to that list. Holloway / Barnes in Toronto was another good one. Maas / Ray had a great run as a tandem in 2005, with Maas coming off the bench to win the semi-final and final before Ray went start-to-finish and won the Grey Cup.

Different dynamics, though. The center-left people for the most part are donating to keep their societies from devolving into a Mad Max scenario, whereas the right-wingers are donating out of fear, rage and a desire to regain an imagined utopia that never existed and see no problem in using any means, including violence and intimidation to that end. They are not open to compromise and are bolstered by their fragile belief that they are the anointed of God.

  36. And there are canadian players making league minimum too. Even if you reduce the amount of NI starters that doesn't mean you cut 1 or 2 starters. The high end guys will always keep there jobs and pay checks. Its the bottom of the roster back up guys who would lose out, and for what? So a bottom of the roster american can play? No thanks.

Nice in theory, but many issues persist: Who gets to impose the consequences, and who gets to determine what is a lie? One person’s view of what is “fair and balanced” application of the rules is outrageous to the other side, and there will not be consensus on who gets to be the high moral authority that satisfies everyone. The rich guys will get to make the rules. Is Elon Musk really the voice of reason and arbiter of truth and falsehood that everyone is fine with if he starts censoring what he deems to be “lies”? Also, news is a whole lot of spin, and these modern “journalists” know how to play the game. Look at the issue here: “Ivermectin is a horse de-wormer”. Offence is taken by that characterization because there are human variants, but that phrase is not in and of itself a lie, so really there could be no justifiable consequence on that basis. Now, does the spin lead to some oversimplification and potential for inaccuracy? Of course, but it isn’t a lie so it does it’s job of creating an idea of stupidity for those who use it without actually lying, so mission completely accomplished without presenting a patent falsehood. Also, commentators like Tucker Carlson have mastered the art of provoking without actually saying anything, but just asking questions so they can deny having lied. If I posed the question “Has HardCoreBlue stopped beating his wife yet?” The implication is clear but I haven’t actually told a lie, because hey I’m only asking a question - so I can get away with suggesting pretty much any stupid thing and not be called a liar on a technicality. Third, shaming those who lie really accomplishes nothing. Trump had over 30,000 documented lies in his Presidency, and whenever he got called out for it, it only emboldened his supporters and him to double down. And short attention spans today mean that no one cares enough expend the time and energy to tear down the lie. In the last month, news has been dominated by Roe v Wade, Ginni Thomas’s texts, Cawthorn’s comments, pics and videos, MTG and Depp/Heard trials, SCOTUS leak, Meadows texts - hey, do we even get updates on COVID or an actual war in Ukraine as front page news anymore? And the media has no desire to stop all this noise. They are there to sell papers or ad time, not worry about “the truth and nothing but the truth”. It is big business, and talking heads with loud opinions is what makes business work now. As CBS president Les Moonvees said about Trump’s election run in 2020 “It may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS”. Fox, Newsmax, CNN, MSNBC et al surely agree. It all boils down to expecting people to have integrity and do the right thing for others. That world seems to be long gone in many ways. I can’t imagine how badly JFK’s “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” speech would play today. People would be screaming about the Government’s responsibility to act for the people and not the other way around and how self-interested he was and what a betrayal to his oath it was, rather than being inspired to devote time to public service as was intended and received at the time.

He was the first african american player to be voted into the CFL hall of fame, and he was actually a licensed practising doctor. A profession which he worked in after football.

Jeezus, that was 39 years ago. Brock said in his book that he was wrong & wished he had stayed in Winnipeg. As a fan, I have no ill will towards Brock at all. Also, he played in an era where the Eskimos had the greatest run in CFL history winning 5 Grey Cups in a row. We were very good as a team but they always were a little better.

I think Don Jonas should be in there as he had one 4,000 yard season & Schenley MOP in 71. Then a 3800 yard season in 72. Took a team that missed the playoffs for 4 straight seasons (1967-70) & was a league laughing stock with just 2 wins in 1970. In 1970, the Bombers averaged maybe 12000 fans a game while the team kept losing & losing. They stunk no matter who played qb. When Jonas arrived, the air was filled with footballs & excitement with high scoring games. Tickets were hard to come by in 1971 with sell outs a common thing. With Mack Herron running & Jonas chucking the ball & Thorpe, Larose, Markle, Ribbins & Kraemer catching the Bombers became a hot ticket. The Bombers made the playoffs & finished third in the West at 7-8-1. This led to expansion of the West Side of Winnipeg Stadium from 21000 to 25,000 in the off season. In 1972, the team went 10-6 & was just one stupid flukey play away from going to the Grey Cup losing the Western Final to the Riders. The team was in dire financial straights until Jonas et al showed up in 71. But it was Jonas who poured the drink & stirred the contents. The Bombers would have been nothing without him. He literally saved the team frrom folding. I grew up in that era. I remember the two biggest high profile athletes in Winnipeg at that time were Bobby Hull of the Jets & Don Jonas of the Blue Bombers. The City loved them both.

Agreed. Theres a reason why Winnipeg Stadium is referred to as the house that Jack built. These are his passing stats from 1951! GP Att Com % Yds TD Int 14 355 204 57.5 3248 33 10 Insane. That would be a pretty great season in todays game! First professional QB to throw for over 3000 yards and 30 TD's. Oh and he was also the teams punter and had a 41.1 yard average over 95 punts.
