  3. I'm fairly sure Nichols led the league in Deep ball completions in 2019 before his injury. People have a weird memory. Nichols is a legend afaic and was maybe the biggest key to the Bombers getting over the hump to become a winning franchise. Collaros has brought things to another level though. Strev is a decent enough passer. I don't put too much on his mistakes throwing because that's what young QB's do for the most part. I'd be more than happy to have him back.

  4. He had a fine arm before he injured his knee back in 2018. Remember in 2017 he had 4500 passing yards and 28 TD’s and 8 INT’s. I don’t like the Nichols slander! He was instrumental in shaping the current winning culture. We forget that O’Shea had a 12-24 record with Drew Willy as our starter, getting Nichols instantly added stability and we went onto win 11 games our first season with Nichols under Center.

  5. Just ignore 17to85. He was all in on Joe Mack’a kool-aid and the whole “IMWT” nonsense so has always blamed LaPo for that regime’s failure to salvage his credibility for backing a loser. Speed I’m not sure, but seems to be mad at something every now and again. And Booch knows a guy. Brandon always loved the back-up so Nichols was his target. And both had their strong points and their flaws. Love them, hate them, who cares? We will always have the 2019 Grey Cup championship that they were both a part of, whatever credit you want to give them or not. Time to move on to new discussions.

  7. Todays training camp report. Dry strong north wind and cold. Venue was the practise field adjacent to the soccer complex so no stands to sit in and have a larger overview., had to watch at field level. As a result I was forced to watch the Offence, in white, run through the paces as the defence was 80 yards further away. there was a moment, was thinking, “these are the grey cup champs, twice,” and “there’s the Most Outstanding player for the entire CFL”. It was a awesome and got a little choked up. I didn’t see any kickers. No idea where they were. was there for an hour. The O was split into two squads: Squad 1 - lead by #8, and was shadowed by #12, that had no reps. Also on Collaros squad was, 20 Oli, 27 augi quick!, 80, 88,10, 83, 84 and on the line 66, 68, 67, 51 kalamkowski and 55 burns. That’s 13 guys, and some I gathered they were rotating through, but Prukop didn’t touch the ball. 2 Ellington was out there but didn’t see him line up. Could have just missed him. There’s a lot of frighten players out there. Squad 2- lead by #6 Brown, shadowed by 15 (no reps). Also on squad was 29 Borsa, fast and athletic, motivated, 73 Harrison, 38 McRae, 81, 70 Nunn, 87 Lucky, 52, 61, 65, 64 Dobber. :must have missed some one. That’s only 11. so Collaros and Brown were getting major reps. With the line ups as stated, there might be indications of who’s number 1 on the O. other observations. 86 didn’t participate, no helmet but in pads. Man, he’s tall! 22 Glass, seems like a character, running round, glad handing as many O players as he could. they moved into doing sets of down, in hurry up fashion, Collaros group, the Brown group. so no report on the D, too far away, but during a drill, I looked for #5 and #4. #5 was working away, and 4, holy crow, he was going at 110%!, impressive work ethic! hope to see the D another time. final observation: a Joe Farigelli look alike, twin, was wondering the ditch around the field looking for bottles and cans, I’d guess. He looked pretty good!

  10. Ok so more then 3 Grey cup wins is considered good, less then three is considered lousy, ok gotcha good to know O’Shea and Walters are on the hot seat this year and need to win a third so that they’re not on 17to85’s lousy list!

  12. Well yeah I’m not a big fan of talking bad about Nichols or Lapo in my opinion. Both were key cogs in shaping our winning culture. Both have their short comings sure but there would be no Grey Cups without these guys in our organization.

  14. Saw that earlier. What a pathetic display by an unhinged loser. And over something so trivial.

  15. There's no way of knowing for sure but I attribute the turnaround on O to Nichols. I wanna say single handedly, but that's an exaggeration. Nichols was the primary reason though.

  16. Biggest issue i always had with Lapo during his time here was that he always seemed to coach not to lose as opposed to coaching to win. Never had a killer instinct and would always get ultra conservative with the smallest lead, often losing in the end.

  17. I thought the Ricky Ray to TO trade was the most one sided trade in league history.

  18. Back-to-back Grey Cups, record breaking defence, top ranked offence, and some here need to re-hash their 90th re-telling of the same tired 4 year old narrative of which of our Cup winning offensive personnel was the most useless and the cause of all of our championship-level misery. How about we just enjoy the rings and start a fresh take on Ambrosie’s scarves? I swear, this board some days.

  20. To build on what you said about Buck, and I think I've said it here before but I had noticed that whenever Buck was up in the booth with Lapo the team tended to play a more aggressive style of offence. I'm so glad that Buck decided to wait it out here to get his shot as OC as I'm sure other teams tried to lure him away over the years. Very excited to see what he'll be able to do with the offence this year.

  21. LOL more then 3 Grey Cup rings is hilarious.... dear lord.... can we just end with LaPo isn't as bad as 3 people have said and Nichols was a very good QB pre injuries and move on with life?

  22. Only the days that end in “Y”. Or so I’m told. I actually like Speed’s take on many things, and he is a true long-time fan who knows the history of the club. And we can agree that LaPo was conservative, but disagree as to if he regressed his talent and it cost us games or played to the the strengths of the personnel he had and put up a winning record. In the end, the offence under his guidance won us our first Grey Cup in 29 years so that’s all I care about.

  23. Let’s just remember. Our offence was a complete joke before Lapo came in. Amongst the worst in the league. We were 12-24 into the O’Shea era. Sure we were able to build in free agency and some guys came into their own but we went from 5-13 to seasons of 11-7, 12-6, 10-8 and 11-7 respectfully. Like it or not we won a lot of games once we got a capable coordinator and QB.

  27. As O'Shea said on the Coach's show, some guys are gonna have a hard time making it onto a very good team and that he will encourage them to keep trying. By releasing them now, some of them may have an opportunity to catch on with another team before the end of TC.

  28. Strev's 2nd season it wasn't because of the dink and dunk (that was mostly Nichols) , it was because LaPo was getting far to cute with Strev and rather then let him run a normal offense he created way to many complicated plays that ended up with him running around the field and taking far too much punishment. It was the complete opposite of what you said. In Strev's first season they gave him normal plays to run and it worked because he would take a few steps back and then rifle the ball down the field (as opposed to Nichols going into panic mode and either taking a sack or dunking it off short). Nichols could no longer (mentally) or physically stay in a pocket (or even move around) and look down field and throw a ball. He was good for 2 pre planned deep balls down the field and not much more. Pre injuries Nichols when he came in could consistently make 30 yard throws with no issues. Fajardo has never been able to throw a 30 yard or deeper ball. I had made a post showing how before Nichols 3rd last injury he was averaging nearly 300+ yards passing per game... afterwards only like 200-225. Dude was a completely different player after getting hurt. Most one sided trade in league history is Ricky Ray going to Toronto and it's not even close.

  29. I see the WEST ending up in this rank order: Winnipeg Calgary Saskatchewan Edmonton BC In the EAST, I expect the final order to be: Hamilton Montreal Toronto Ottawa I see a lot of differential in the west, very little in the east. Forecasting with history I am! Who sees this differently?

Lol! Quoting , referencing spiro. for those too young Spiro Agnew, Nixon vice president: Said "In the United States today, we have more than our share of the nattering nabobs of negativism." In 1973, Agnew was investigated by the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland on suspicion of criminal conspiracy, bribery, extortion and tax fraud. Agnew took kickbacks from contractors during his time as Baltimore County Executive and Governor of Maryland. The payments had continued into his time as vice president; they had nothing to do with the Watergate scandal, in which he was not implicated. After months of maintaining his innocence, Agnew pleaded no contest to a single felony charge of tax evasion and resigned from office.

I don't think many critiques of her or her party are based on gender, but this party royally stinks. A lot of significant roles in the party are filled by horrid politicians. This government seems like a satire: Minister of Indigenous Reconciliation and Northern Relations immediately comes to the defense of residential schools upon his appointment. Former Health Minster Friesen attacking doctors saying they are attempting to create chaos by warning that measures should be taken to prevent waves of Covid. Former Education Minister (Goertzen) participates in webinar advocating for home school while education minister "Education isn't simply a state activity — maybe shouldn't even be primarily a state activity," Current health minister belongs to a church that has routinely publicly disobeyed public health orders, sued the government over health orders and Audrey Gordon herself was caught numerous times in violation of health orders. It almost feels like they are intentionally mocking Manitobans sometimes. At the very least don't put people in charge of the very roles they obviously are completely unsuited for. This includes the current premier who was abysmal as the health minister during the worst wave of Covid and failed her way up to leader of the province.

  34. Once again.... I think Matt Nichols being unable to throw a ball more then 10 yards was the biggest factor of LaPo's struggles with us. With Collaros LaPo didn't have issues mixing up the play calls and calling more deep shots.
    2 points
  35. Buck also challenges the opposing defenses with a much more vertical passing offense. If he can beat you deep he'll take that shot whereas with LaPo it's spread the field, run the **** out of the ball with Harris, screens & checdowns. Or throw three or four yards short of a first down & let the receiver get it on his own. He' was conservative & hardly ever took chances with his playcalling. How many times were we ten points ahead at the half only to sit on a lead in the 3rd & 4th quarter? To me, LaPo played not to lose. Buck plays to win. Huge difference.

  37. They like music. Some people fly to attend sporting events, some for music, some to visit family or to spend time outdoors I guess I just classify all recreational travel the same - it has become part of the fabric of western society Those that can afford it are not going to let it go easily Everyone is counting on some pie in the sky government policy to combat climate change - but we're for the most part not even making minor changes as individuals

  38. Yeah, they can take their time. Injuries play a factor as well. Some guys may be kept around because the starter ahead of them can't play.

  40. Yeah he had a few really good drives with arizona. We never used streveler well. His tool set and athletic ability are tremendous but so is his work ethic and toughness. Give that guy an agreeable OC that can actually coach qbs and the helm of a team. He'll be better than fajardo and take his team to the play offs and wont lose it for them.

  41. The little bit of playtime Strev's seen in the NFL he hasn't looked incredibly out of place throwing the ball either.... he really only had one terrible ball and that was mostly because he thought it was a free play.

  43. There is a reason that the Riders are paying almost ten percent of their payroll to two jump ball specialist receivers.

  44. I think people underestimate Strev's throwing ability...he was doing quite well as a raw as can be raw rookie his first yr....and in yr 2 was never allowed to work on, or develop as a more proficient passer...was soley used as a run first...gimmick/confusion QB ....and that falls directly at the feet of LAPO and stagnating is development....like many a receiver that came thru here. you can argue this about LAPO as much as you want, but I know for a fact a few receivers balked at coming here because they didn't want to hurt their earning power being in his offence in future deals... Strev has been away now since 2019....you don't know how he has developed, and also he wouldn't have bounced around in the NFL as a one trick pony....thats not how they work....he was behind 8 ball from get go being a recruited CFL guy...undrafted...along with other NFL politics, and seen that as soon as he left, and that it would be a continuous merry go round from back-up/PR to Back-up/PR....hopefully now he has banked some dollars and wants to get back to actually playing at a decent salary If he makes it known he has given up on the NFL...It should be a no-brainer that Kyle brings him on....Prukop is the easy decision to be gone, as well as his salary which has to be over 100k....and you make it work...if it means we dont go hard at NFL cuts...so be it as we will be getting an addition in BA at some point which will be just as big as an NFL cast-off I also believe the narrowing of the hashes will be extremely beneficial to some one like Strev as db's and LB's are gonna have to start respecting the outter edges now, and a lot of cheating may be going on pre snap, and it will open up a lot of running lanes I also recall when he first arrived here...after practice before he was signed and was put through all the route tree routes and if he could make the throws, and he killed it...and also was put through paces of target practice and hitting the net at various spots on the filed...and killed that too...and I was like who the eff is this dude??.... He gave us a chance, and was vital for us in helping winning a cup...one one leg...imagine what a healthy, and yes more polished Strev would do with this offence, and majority of guys he's familiar with.....make it hapen
