    Still Struggling

shared this in another thread.... didn't realize this existed. Can't thank you enough for writing it. I suffer with depression, anxiety (and possibly some other stuff that they're not 100% sure about) and am having a really hard time with this loss. Like "death in the family" kinda grief. Most people think it's insane (it is, to a degree) but it's also really normal. "You're not alone" and "it's okay to not be okay" are really important right now.

  2. Soon to be 34 year old WR who missed over half the season at a high salary is an obvious choice to move on from in a SMS world.

  3. Agreed. I don’t think we acknowledge yet just how special of a year Schoen had.

  4. I'll tell you right now, they will never find another rookie receiver who can come close to duplicating what Schoen did this season, he's a one-off. Think about it, bringing in Brandon Zylstra would actually be a downgrade.

  8. Had the Bombers lost in 2019 Grey Cup, I had already made the decision to step back as a Bomber fan to protect my mental health, so I fully sympathize and understand what it can do to a fan. It's why I joined the forum and logged tens of thousands of posts in the first place, it was therapeutic to know that there were others out there willing to talk, discuss, argue football with that were just as committed as me. I found solace on these boards during our down times, and learned a long time ago that these losses are more than just football to many of us. The last three years helped me prepare for this loss, because I know what this team is capable of and I was able to shrug it off more easily. I am sure once the offseason starts rolling things will get easier for all of us as we still have a crap load to be excited for. This team is not done.

  9. Demski is a must sign imo. Great receiver, national and from the Peg. Cut Augustine for example and go cheaper there to save $ and us the savings to sign Nic.

It's actually really interesting to read about mental health awareness and strategies from the perspective of a sports fan. These are really important topics that a lot of people might not otherwise read, but sharing it from the viewpoint of a disappointed fan makes it accessible for those who may not be inclined to seek the information out on their own. Very well done, Zach.

  11. I don't think it's hate. He's an aging veteran who spent a lot of time on IR this past season. Did the offense really struggle without him? Not really. SMS implications have to be considered when it comes to a player like Ellingson.

It’s soo important to take time and acknowledge these issues. It’s stuff people don’t even think about too often. The 01 loss hit me soo hard and a few times since I’ve had to step away. I was watching a video today on 3rd places. Basically your home is 1 and work is 2. The 3rd place is a low cost or free place like a local pub or coffee shop where you hang out and mingle out side of your 1 and 2 groups. With the mass suburbanization of North America a lot of places have lost that 3rd place. It’s hard to have a community area when the community is an endless sea of replicant houses. I think for me and a lot of people here the bombers and this forum is a 3rd place or the only 3rd place. So when the team is in the dumps or we suffer a tough loss it effects people a lot more emotionally and in terms of mental health than any one on the out side would ever think. the seasonal nature of our game makes it hard too. The off-season is long and dark. I think the last few years with regular threads on greatest teams and players has helped that a lot. Just because we lost and it’s the off season doesn’t mean this isn’t a 3rd place. Maybe we need a vent thread or one just focusing on all the good things this team has going. I know a lot of the efforts you’ve put in zach has meant a lot to some of the young remote bomber fans, even though you struggle, you’re helping a lot of people and the cause it self. Keep on keepin on bud. You’ve done soo much and come soo far in a short time. I can’t wait to see where you have risen in a couple years.

wanted to take a moment to thank @Zach Schnitzerfor writing this piece. I, too, suffer from various mental illness, including depression and anxiety..... and "You're not alone" is a key phrase for people like us. I care more about this team, and (especially living in AB) my identity is so entangled with the team, that this championship loss has caused me a lot of grief. Like a death in the family kind of grief. But, as Zach says here: It's normal and we're not alone.

someone was here a while ago belittling the idea that Conservatives want to end public healthcare. "Answers to the major problems confronting Alberta’s health care system, Daniele Smith said in a paper published under her name last year, are found in user fees, co-pays, privatization, and slyly delisting services covered by health insurance by redefining them. The paper – entitled Alberta’s Key Challenges and Opportunities – was published by the University of Calgary’s right-leaning School of Public Policy in June 2021. Smith: What the government needs to do is create matching Health Spending Accounts for all Albertans,” she explains. “The Government should pledge to match up to $375 per person and challenge individuals and employers to do the same.” “By taking responsibility for their health and giving people the means to do so,” she burbles, “it should translate into less pressure on the hospital system and better chronic care management which will bring costs down.” Better, she continues, “once people get used to the concept of paying out of pocket for more things themselves then we can change the conversation on health care. “the only way to make substantial and significant changes in the way programs are delivered is to allow contracting out, competition and choice.” full frontal assault on public health care in Canada right now. seems the right have decided, now is the time. elect cons, this is what you get. https://rabble.ca/politics/canadian-politics/ab-premier-smith-hints-at-user-fees-co-pays-privatization-for-health-care/ If you care about our health care system, spread this around.

  21. Prukop had a role to play in terms of widening out the D and threatening the edge. Have no problem with him coming in to run some option run stuff. Guy should not be throwing the ball. Maybe in July or August, not in November when it's -4 and grip is damn near impossible on top of all his other shortcomings as a passer. That call is unforgivable. You use him as a running QB and you don't even really need the threat of him passing because all you're doing is using misdirection to create one vertical gap where Prukop or Oliviera or Demski get a shot 1 on 1 vs a LB or DB. Our gameplan did not utilize the run enough....and that's why we lost. It's why our O is struggling in playoffs generally. A ball you think is gonna go 35 yards is probably going to go 28 or 32 and that's why you can't be safe throwing the ball downfield in November.

  22. The execution was one thing, which - and let's be totally honest here - was pretty horrendous. What really creams my corn is the decision to call that play at the time it was called. You're up by 6 and still holding onto some momentum. Oliveira rushes for 13 yards, putting the offense at roughly midfield with a fresh set of downs. Run the ******* ball again.

    Grey Cup 2022 GDT

Prukop said the the Freep that the throw was to Ellingson. Looks to me like Bailey drew coverage to the ball. Not saying it was a good throw but sure sounds like Bailey shouldn't have been there. https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/2022/11/22/i-didnt-do-enough-collaros-says-of-grey-cup-loss Short-yardage quarterback Dakota Prukop admitted Tuesday he’s lost sleep over the interception he threw in the fourth quarter in Sunday’s Grey Cup. The Bombers had a 23-17 lead when Prukop came in for a play and attempted a deep pass that was picked off by Shaq Richardson. “I would’ve liked to have Greg (Ellingson) more open. If he’s (wide open), then you take that shot. But the situation we were in and with the momentum, I just really wish I could’ve moved on and found the next receiver,” said Prukop in front of his locker. “So, yeah, that one hurt, man. Buck made a great call. I told him before the game ‘If you put me in, I’m going to take care of the ball.’ I’ve done it all year and on that play, I didn’t. It sucks.”

Gonna take a long time to get over this one man. They were on the verge of greatness and a dynasty, the first in 40 years and were one freaking play away. My buddies and i(who dont get together all that often anymore) spent the weekend in Regina, partied it up, and had a great time. We went into Mosaic living our best lives, only to come out devastated. Was quite the somber ride home. Even if we win it next year im not sure itll erase this s****y taste in my mouth.

Back to the overall topic of loving this team. When ZC threw that INT with a couple minutes to go, that is game over for most teams. How great was it that we got the stop on D, unheralded Cdn special teamer blocks the kick, and then the offense did just enough to get a chance to win the game. Didn't end well, but that was awesome.

  32. There’s only one player who could have single handedly won that game for the Bombers, and we all know who it is. If you’re still under a rock, I’ll give a hint. Rhymes with Stan Stark.

  33. I don`t think either Ellingson or Schoen are back next year. We`ll need new top receiver.

  35. I don't understand the Ellingson hate on this board. The guy made two clutch grabs in the Grey Cup ...one leading to a TD, the other a chance to give us the go ahead points. Don't forget he had a monster game against Calgary 152 yds receiving just before he got hurt. This is the first time he's missed any significant time in his career too. I'd welcome him back in a heartbeat. Collaros and Ellingson have wicked chemistry.

  37. Lawler signed for $300k last year, even at $200k that's too much for an import receiver when Burnham could be had for less. Save the kopeks and make sure Bailey and Demski get what they deserve.

Nope, it was just another loss for the home team at Mosaic, you should be used to that by now. Things will go back to normal next season when we're back in the visitors locker room.

  40. We should've been tied ....even with the last td by the argos at the end...IF Leggs had made the convert on our first td earlier......Can't miss those in a Cup game when every point is crucial....Yeah Bede was no better but I don't give a rats ass on how good or bad he is....he's not our kicker......I'm not going to hang the loss on Leggs shoulders..that was a team effort (or lack there of)...I'm sure he'll work on his consistency over the off season....BUT a little competition in tc never hurt anyone,,,in fact that can be very motivating

Lol Just need 1 person to blame I guess but in my opinion, Collaros had one of his worst games as a bomber. When you are outplayed by MBT, you deserve to lose. beginning of downward slide today is 59 years since Kennedy asassination. "President Trump vowed last year to release all the long-secret files related to the JFK assassination, but the administration announced Thursday that some documents will remain redacted until October 2021 for national security reasons. In a White House memo, Trump said that the nation’s intelligence community persuaded him to keep some parts of documents secret because their exposure could harm “identifiable national security, law enforcement, and foreign affairs concerns.” "persuaded him" 😂 This is the only known time since his birth, that Trump did what he was told. lol. the sixty year old concerns. Lawler in 2021 - 13 Games Played, 1024 yards - 6 TDs - Average of 78.7 yards per game - 0.46 TDs per game Schoen in 2022 - 18 Games Played, 1441 yards - 16 TDs - Average of 80.1 yards per game - 0.89 TDs per game --> In his rookie year. Lawler had yet to play a full season. Is Lawler the best receiver in the game?

Yeah we still have the top qb in the league under contract for 3 more years, have a 1000 yard young NI rb, one of the best OLs which will be back, good receivers... and the best front office in the league and a culture that can't be beat. People writing the Bombers off are short sighted. I mean if that last kick goes through does that suddenly change anything about where this team is at?
