  9. Dobson is very athletic for a'big' man....He sure looked physically capable when he dunked that basketball and tracked down an opposition db on a pick at their goal line....This guy fits the description 'manimal' and glad he's on our roster

  19. Didn’t swear he was up from his college weight, said he looked slow as the extra guy on the edge for the CFL. He has an extensive film reel from his junior year at Maine on YouTube. And he’s only playing RT in Maine. You probably read the article about his transfer to Texas State where they talked about his versatility to play anywhere, but if you again check the film reel, he’s only in at RG.

    Covid-19

I appreciate this post, but a few points: - The divisions have been brewing for a long time, but have definitely become worst from the whole Covid situation and response. I think some people from both sides have a tendency to project the other side as the extremes of the other side. I think the right / alt-right has really used this to win political points and gain money/power. See - Pollievre, Pierre. An interesting book on the increasing political divisions is 'Why We're Polarized' by Ezra Klein. - The rich have become richer, just as they've been doing for decades. I don't believe this is any conspiracy with media or government related to Covid that has caused this as you'd really have to have a ton of people in on it that definitely aren't towing the government message anymore (see below related to medical professionals going against public messaging currently). Like all crises, Covid just provided another way for rich and powerful to adapt quickly and take advantage in a new way. - It seems to me the new government message (at least provincially) is to disregard Covid and get on with life. This was a fairly sudden change that wasn't based in medical reality according to many doctors (I believe the majority, but how would I really be able to say that for sure). Doctors Manitoba was critical of the province for this and many other doctors spoken out about it as well. - If you don't trust the government or mainstream media there are several good medical professionals I follow. All of them are very much pro Covid vaccination and many have been outspoken that they mask up and encourage others to do the same, if not call on the province to reintroduce masking requirements. A small selection of ones I've learned a lot from: Jason Kindrachuk, PhD (Assistant Professor - Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases), Dr. Julie Lajoie (U of M researcher with PhD in immunology and virology) - I've talked with her personally and she's presented in my class, Angela Rasmussen, PhD (Virologist), Dr. David Fisman (U Toronto, Epidemiology), Dr. Philippe Lagace-Wiens (St. Boniface Hospital, Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease). I think it is easy to find the odd doc to support whatever viewpoints someone may have, but I've tried to not have a selection bias for pro-vax, pro-masking. A problem is that he tries to argue what is and what he sees anecdotally as a counter to arguments about what ought to be. Its like saying we shouldn't fight climate change because he sees cars driving around daily. I'm not sure if its an intentional lack of critical thinking or just an attempt to make a convenient argument that hopefully nobody will see through. Saying that this board has some type of selection bias for people who believe Covid is serious where nobody in "the real world" would argue against him is also pretty odd.

  22. Same here. I use temp probes for things like brisket. Sorry i had to run out. Yeah its basically what you said. You place your meat in a vacuum bag ,set the device to desired temp and time. Like someone said ,steaks and chops ,you sear to give them a nice finish. Did a leg of lamb a few weeks back ,finished it in pellet grill. Was amazing. Check out sou vide everything on You Tube. Got lotsa nice pointers and tips from him already.

Absolutely. And watch just one thing from Fox on say, youtube, and their algorithm bombards you with similar propaganda. It is quite hard for older people (for example) to navigate and decipher fact from fiction. In dealing with people who I would describes as 'victims of propaganda and confirmation bias' I find that the social media algorithms create by far the largest amount of harm

    Covid-19

The irony dripping from this comment is as palpable as the glaring and utter lack of self-awareness. Anecdotes and personal experiences being feebly passed off as evidence of anything is laughable, too. The media and many governments fumbled the message(s) many times since the pandemic began, but how does that differ from anything else with regard to news, world events, etc. since the dawn of the 24-hour news cycle, internet, and social media? Being bombarded by information constantly can be exhausting but it's not insurmountably challenging to sift through the garbage and figure out what's factual in order to be informed and use critical thinking. A cloudy or unclear message does not equate to propaganda. Propaganda is generally defined as information of a misleading, inaccurate, and/or biased nature with the express purpose of influencing or persuading an audience of a particular view, often misrepresenting facts or ignoring them altogether. It also uses loaded language to elicit emotional responses rather than rational or objective ones. For example: "vaccination can less the severity of symptoms of a novel virus." vs. "vaccines contain dead babies and will work with 5G towers to exterminate people." It's pretty easy to see which one is propaganda. And as far as vaccines go, the facts have been quite clear for many years now and the COVID-19 vaccines are no different. The only "agenda" being pushed to get vaccinated during a global health crisis is protect oneself and others. Is trying to save lives really an agenda, though? "Vaccine hesitant" individuals should've just talked to their physician or any self-respecting doctor or medical professional, as doing so would've allayed their concern and informed them of the facts. Being hesitant of proven scientific facts doesn't make rational sense. It's like saying one is seatbelt hesitant because car accidents injure or kill people. And let's be honest here: the us vs. them mentality has been around much, much longer than this pandemic. But that's a much broader issue related to wealth disparity and socioeconomic inequality that has hampered humanity for ages. The tolerance paradox applies here. Intolerant or ignorant views should not be tolerated.

Great, glad you accept all views. Most of us here do if it is an actual view with some critical thinking, curiosities, facts, healthy skepticism ext etc added to it. What frustrates me with this 'listen to all views and if you don't you're in an echo chamber and you're mean and defensive' is this legitimate approach it's being abused by some imo. For example very simply, when a 'view, perspective, another side' comes in hot (i.e., gaslighting, passive aggressive etc) on this board void of facts, critical thinking and its rightfully called out (yes sometimes it can be called out bluntly by some - that's a whole other issue to chat about) the default response is you all live in an echo chamber, you all are defensive, mean, belittling, can't we just all get along, wow what is wrong with you all'. What are we to do with absurdity because simply words forming in one's head that are typed into an post doesn't make it a view, another side, a perspective until other things are added, like thinking it thru, informing yourself, identify your gaps etc etc.

Alberta premier's office contacted Crown prosecution about Coutts cases: sources Social Sharing Facebook Twitter Email Reddit LinkedIn Smith hasn't contacted Crown prosecutors and has no knowledge of staff doing so, premier's office says Meghan Grant, Elise von Scheel · CBC News · Posted: Jan 19, 2023 4:52 PM CST | Last Updated: January 19 Anti-COVID-19 vaccine mandate demonstrators created a blockade at the U.S. border crossing in Coutts, Alta., last January. (Jeff McIntosh/The Canadian Press via AP) 3712 comments A staffer in Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's office sent a series of emails to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service, challenging prosecutors' assessment and direction on cases stemming from the Coutts border blockades and protests, CBC News has learned. The emails were sent last fall, according to sources whom CBC has agreed not to identify because they fear they could lose their jobs. CBC has not seen the emails. Soon after Smith was elected leader of the United Conservative Party and sworn in as premier, her office asked for a briefing on the cases. Subsequent emails critiqued the prosecutors' assessment of the charges and pushed back on the characterizations of the protest. "This is so improper on so many levels — it's pure interference with Crown independence," said one source with knowledge of the correspondence. Alberta premier says she was 'imprecise' when saying she contacted prosecutors The revelation comes just days after Smith herself backtracked from comments about two instances when she said she had contacted Crown prosecutors, subsequently clarifying that "at no time" had she communicated directly with prosecutors. In a statement provided to CBC Thursday evening, the premier's office said Smith has not been in contact with Crown prosecutors and has no knowledge of anyone on her staff doing so. "This is a serious allegation," reads the statement. "If a staff member has been in touch with a Crown Prosecutor, appropriate action will be taken."

Along with others mentioned, the Freep. Editorials and commentary are very hit and miss. Doesn't matter the source. They tend to publish opinions that meet the owners expectations or they try to provide "balance" by allowing unsupported claims without pushback. I'm not certain but it feels like editing skills have diminished. It's probably just a result of cuts over the years.
