  4. Are teams announcing this? I've seen 3down and other media people, but I can't recall a team actually doing it. The agreements are not binding at all, like not even a little. Any player can change their mind at any point until the contract is signed. The tampering window was only made a thing officially, because everyone knew it was happening unofficially. CFL made it a thing, which is smart imo, as we're talking about the CFL for the past 6 days or so AND we will be talking about the CFL once FA starts. Basically added another week of mostly positive CFL news.

  6. That one's hard to believe.....especially after Kenny gave Edm. and the Elks a 'goodbye' announcement, in the media, on behalf of his family and himself the other day....Wishful thinking on behalf of some Elk's supporters or their local media, I would say...Usually a contract has to be submitted to the league ...signed and committed to by the player and team...I would say it's a done deal....IF it's not, anything done in ' legal tampering time', wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on, or the media time given to it

  9. Yes! I am President of a riding Chapter that has Associated Chapters and Grand Chapter Districts around the world. Each one will typically have a Chapter Nickname and Patch. Within our local geographic area that we call home is the site where Camp X operated. So naturally our name is a riff on William Stephenson's Codename: Intrepid. I just love his story. Great man. Proud to have his name on my vest.

  10. Looks like the Bombers reworked Brandon Alexander's contract according to the CFL transactions page. My guess is he got a bump in salary as he only made 77k last season.

  13. Basically Paul Friesen’s comments in this article (link is below) that the Elks still have a two-day window to match or exceed the Bomber offer, and that Lawler was seeking $1 million over 3 years. Clearly all speculation, but acknowledges that even an agreement in principle can be overturned and is not worth anything concrete. This was just my response to JCon wishing things were kept secret. It would seem to benefit the player to make an offer public to force the hand of his existing team, like an offer sheet in the NHL. I agree that the “tampering window” is really just optics to make transparent what has been going on for a long time - the practice of teams negotiating deals on the side before they are allowed to formally speak to a player under contract by another team. I am confident Lawler is coming here, but the whole “tampering window “ does seem like a silly exercise, and all it takes is one back track of a player your team “signed in principle” and the howling will commence. https://www.thepost.on.ca/sports/football/cfl/winnipeg-bluebombers/one-step-closer-to-winnipeg-blue-bombers-kenny-lawler-posts-goodbye-message-to-edmonton/wcm/18cb4143-a961-48be-959c-2d713ed9a8f8/amp/

  16. Okay: If you're going to critique my list, you should first offer some names of your own. "She (Clara Hughes) is the National Spokesperson for Bell Canada’s Mental Health initiative and the ‘Let’s Talk’ campaign. By sharing past struggles with depression, Clara has helped break down the stigma associated with mental illness." Her contributions go far beyond her athleticism. Feel free to point me to Cindy Klassen's non-athletic contributions - not saying there aren't any - but it's on you to elaborate. Why am I even trying to justify my choices to someone who spams the TV thread with the most mundane TV "news"? I mean: Posted January 13 by iHeart Well I know what I'm doing this summer https://tvline.com/2023/01/13/riverdale-season-7-date-nancy-drew-season-4-premiere-the-cw/

  20. The tampering window is just to make public and official what teams were already doing. That is why it exists and it is fine.

  21. Because the team can’t until they’re officially signed. But obviously a few teams are very confident in certain signings.

  25. White staying is good for Hamilton. They are building a nice dl on paper. Have not seen anything about Lawler trying to get more out of Edmonton. Need a source or in educator speak, show your work. Plenty of evidence such as his instagram posts and tweets by local reporters that he's coming home.

  27. Yes, I'm okay with it. Basically starts free agency a week earlier but with contracted team getting more chances to keep their players. I wish that they wouldn't announce anything, though. Keep the secret until FA opens officially.

Monomaniacal tyrants rarely see reality. For Putin, because he is losing the war of attrition, its now or never because every day that passes without a victory is a day closer to his assassination or sudden death from "natural causes". Putin lost yet another general yesterday and since the military ousted the Kremlin leadership in 1989 after Matthias Rust flew his little plane across Russia undetected and humiliated Russia, the precedent has been set. So far, the killing of potentially problematic oligarchs has kept them in line, but that is not going to last as they are bleeding millions of rubles every day and are being denied trips to the Riviera.

  31. this....can e a DI or a non starting import....you just switch one of the nationalized guys on offence....or defense ...whatever side of the ball the injury took place to a National to maintain your ratio....you still need to have the ratio maintained as to how you are going to use your nationals you as listed before the game...how many on offence and defense tho. I like the rule...rewards teams for continuity, and improves the quality of the game

  32. One man’s take: If you are going by name recognition and worldwide acclaim as your definition of “greatest”, then the bear Winnie the Pooh is the strongest candidate for his global name brand. I’d say this is the 2nd greatest Winnipegger. Among humans, wrestlers Kenny Omega, Roddy Piper and Chris Jericho, singers Burton Cummings, Neil Young, and Justin Bieber (technicality since he often visited his father who lived here, was a second home to him) are the most recognizable worldwide. Arts and entertainment TV and movies Anna Paquin, David Steinberg and Monty Hall. Sports Terry Sawchuk, Jennifer Jones. CFL specifically Chris Walby edges out Andrew Harris with Cal Murphy taking the bronze. Beyond cultural impact, those whose achievements have had the “greatest” impact are Duff Roblin, who’s floodwaters diversion has saved an entire city definitely twice and likely close to a half dozen times, and saved us billions of dollars, and in science Louis Slotin (worked on the Manhattan Project and was a forefather of the Nuclear Age in designing the first cyclotron and exploring fission reactions), and Frances McGill, who pioneered Forensic medicine and developed the first ever crime lab for the RCMP.

  33. I thought the same, if Tommy Prince isn't the "greatest" he's certainly among the most bad-ass

  34. What's the criteria for being a Winnipegger? Fox was born here but spent most of his life elsewhere while people like Neil Young were not born here but still have a significant connection to the city. If we're including anyone with ties to Winnipeg, I'd add Tommy Douglas & Tommy Prince to the list.

  40. This draft will be very interesting. There's about 10 guys that are probably NFL players for how long that last for them. Will be interesting to see how far they drop. Bombers could be a team to take a swing on one of them in the first couple rounds. There's also a lot of depth in the draft, and Canadian depth in general around right now. The draft is pretty heavy on linemen both ways and LB's. Not much for "skill" guys. Not sure if that makes those "skill" guys more of a target early or not. Korte-Moore is a great pass rusher in Canada West. I think he'll be gone before the Bombers pick. He's a guy that probably isn't quite good enough to get the NFL look, but might I suppose depending on his testing. He's an end from UBC, kind of hard to judge him because OL play in CanWest hasn't been great last couple years. Most of the guys who will be CFLers on the line are his teammates. Don't think he'll play anything but end in CFL. Anthony Bennett, Regina by way of FLA and will qualify as a national. Great rush end in Canada West, on lighter side but could be one of those "ratio breakers" and certainly a guy who will be able to be in rotation. Let's just say though he feasted on shitty teams (like the Bisons)...didn't do much vs Sask. Bemiy from Southern Utah might be gone earlier than the Bombers pick too. Probably available right away. Kind of a Sayles type. Would be able to rotate inside and outside. I watched Seguin at UND a lot, he transferred to another FCS school. Another inside-outside guy but I think likely to be a 3-technique guy in CFL. Obiang out of Texas State, where Dobson finished up, is an interesting one. Nose tackle type. Will be interesting to see how he tests at whatever pro day's he does, don't think he's participating in any of the Canadian combines. Sambu out of Maine, again where Dobson played until his last year, played a lot of OLB, stand up end. Likely to be a solid special teamer, probably like a 4th-5th round pick, came from a prep school too that a few of our Manitoban players who ended up down south went through. Bonhomme out of South Alabama via Indiana via the prep school circuit, huge recruit, another guy who played with a bunch of Manitoban kids in prep school. Stand up end type, played all LB spots in States but bet he's a rush end up here. Could be a great value pick mid draft, think he won't get NFL look. Schmekel, another Regina guy, greasy looking guy, big but agile, nose tackle type, dominant career in Canada West basically from day 1. I think he'll kill a lot of guys at the combine 1 v 1. Bison guys: Kornelson...not sure he's a DL in the CFL. Think a team might turn him around to OG. He's got the OL body. Probably run about 5.6 at the combine. Francis...3 technique type in CFL I think, played weak end for Bisons, basketball guy, got BIG later in high school so he has pretty good feet. Could be another turn around candidate to OL. Viner-Cox...tweener 3 technique type, played a bit of both for Bisons. Not sure he has the explosiveness to make the jump.
