I've got some time, so here's what we've talked about on the CJOB Sports Show (happy to answer any questions for the next little bit): WR has been consistenly Lawler-Schoen-Demski-Bailey-Wolitarsky. Bailey moving back to the slot after a year at WR. Line is Bryant-Gray-Kolankowski-Neufeld-Hardrick. I haven't seen any reps for anyone else with the first team. Dobson has been 6th OL. Eli at C with 2nd team. Brady practiced day 1, but not since then. Johnny took over, but missed a couple days. Appeared he was back in limited action today. They signed an American RB today...I'd guess it's because they had only two RBs able to work the last couple days (Salima ahead of Barnes). 2nd offense: Richmond-Dobson-Eli-Machino-various dudes at tackle. Harrison & Agudosi are slots with WR2. They switched Agudosi to the same SB position as Bailey--so there's potential competition for the starting spot. QBs appear to have become Zach, Brown, Pigrome, Jones Defence: Willie-Walker-Thomas-Jeffcoat are #1. Lawson in for Thomas for most of camp, Cooper for Jeffcoat (who's been out since Day 4). With American DTs coming in late we've seen a lot of Schmekel-Kornelson at DT. But I have to believe there'll be another American DT to back up Walker. DBs were Rose-Nichols-Alexander-Parker-Lawrence-Darby. Last few days Holm and Parker started splitting reps with 1st & 2nd team. Houston now in Rose's spot after Rose's injury. Houston was at HB with the 2s before that. Corner Matt Cole has a real good chance to make the team IMO. Fast, strong, a lot of return experience. LBs have been all over the place without Bighill & Wilson. Gauthier for Bighill generally. I've seen Gauthier-Clements, Gauthier-Wade, Gauthier-Dixon (who's been cut), Clements-Wade, Clements-Cole, Clements-Cadwallader, Maruo-Cole...apart from Gauthier it's tough to figure who else is LB2. Wade is explosive in short areas. I'd think he's the best non-starting American box linebacker, but not sure how he is on specials.

This is ridiculous. You’ve been on this bandwagon forever and I really just don’t get it. Nobody’s asking anyone to be a football scout, the pass you keep giving guys for being lazy is crazy. It is not difficult to go to a training camp session and share what your eyes tell you. “Player A seems to be splitting reps in the slot and at wideout, whereas player B is only getting reps in the slot”, “Player C is returning kicks and working with the defensive secondary”, “Player D is taking reps at halfback and the SAM LB spot”, “Player E seems to be having lots of drops, whereas player F catches everything thrown his way”, “Player G looks to be struggling to win his 1 on 1 battles in the trenches”, “Player H has burned longtime starter Z in a few battles today” I’m not looking for an in-depth grading on how they perform in pass pro broken down with film to support their thoughts, I’m looking to see some consideration that they’re going there to REPORT, not play pattycake with their buddies on a sunny day.

Over in Calgary, receiver Reggie Begelton is talking about having four players crack the 1,000-yard mark, something that has been done only four times in league history. That raised an eyebrow or two in the Winnipeg camp. “He can say it,” Lawler said. “Now it’s about doing it. So we’ll see. That’s what’s great about this group. No one cares about that. We don’t care who the 1,000-yard receivers are.”

Holm looks really good this year. His understanding of the defence is clearly catching up with his athleticism. Dru Brown connected on a nice deep 🏈

Talked to him briefly a couple days ago and then was watching OL/DL pad drills today...he looks like he's in good shape. I'd say leaner than last year, but I could be being fooled by the beard.

Was watching him on Monday and he looked pretty good, similar to what he looked like in 2021. He's 20 pounds lighter than he was as a rookie and 35 less than his college weight, according to 3DN.

Bennett has been with the 2nd team with Cooper (before Cooper took Jeffcoat's spot). Bennett has a ton of energy. At the moment I'd guess he gets rostered for most of the games this season--special teams and rotational pass rush. Eli's been getting full second-team reps. He's missed the last ?two? days, but he's at practice. I didn't see him up close in '21...nothing I've seen makes me think he's out of shape.

I agree. I haven't attended camp in a few years but when I did it was comical how little attention the local media paid to the field. They would stand around laughing and visiting for 90% of the time. Then they get upset when no one wants to pay for their "coverage"

Think more about the area in Winnipeg along Kenaston or over off Ness near Moray. This what I am talking about, not the ghettos created in areas of England or the USA. A more modern example would be an area of Transcona that has been developing for about 5 years Park City Common, a mix of commercial and residential. Upfront funding to get options like this moving faster is one thing they have done, now need to do more.

Was going to say, sounds a lot like government over reach and limiting the market. Big government interfering in entrepreneurs ability to make money. What needs to happen is more housing needs to be built. There is a shortage and it's only getting worse.

One of the reasons that the housing market is over heated is the overall shortage of housing. The government is funding the arrival of thousands of immigrants and refugees but nothing to support housing for them. We need a massive influx of new housing like we did after the Second World War. If there was more housing we would have such high prices.

Long-sought universal flu vaccine: mRNA-based candidate enters clinical trial. The phase I trial will test safety and efficacy in a small number of people. An mRNA-based flu vaccine designed to offer long-lasting protection against a broad range of influenza viruses is now in a phase I clinical trial, the National Institutes of Health announced this week. The trial brings the remarkable success of the mRNA vaccine platform to the long-standing efforts to develop a universal flu vaccine. Currently, health systems around the globe battle the seasonal scourge with shots that have to be reformulated each year to match circulating strains. This reformulation happens months before typical transmission, providing manufacturers time to produce doses at scale but also giving the strain in circulation chances to shift unexpectedly. If the year's shot is a poor match for the strains that circulate in a given season, efficacy against infection can be abysmal. Still, even when the shot is well-matched, people will need another shot next year. "A universal influenza vaccine would be a major public health achievement and could eliminate the need for both annual development of seasonal influenza vaccines, as well as the need for patients to get a flu shot each year," Hugh Auchincloss, acting director of the NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in a news release. "Moreover, some strains of influenza virus have significant pandemic potential. A universal flu vaccine could serve as an important line of defense against the spread of a future flu pandemic." A successful design has been elusive. Flu vaccines often generate immune responses to fast-evolving bits of proteins on the outside of flu virus particles, hemagglutinin (Ha or H) and neuraminidase (Na or N). These proteins are responsible for helping the virus break into and out of human cells, respectively, during an infection. Both proteins look a little like lollipops stuck to the outside of the virus particle, with their tops evolving and being prime targets for potent antibodies against the virus. For the universal vaccine design, NIH researchers have targeted not the tops of these proteins but a portion of the Ha protein's stem—a highly conserved part of the protein that doesn't evolve as quickly. Human antibodies that target this conserved region will likely target Ha proteins from a range of different flu strains in the same class. And, because this section doesn't evolve as quickly, the vaccine could induce long-term immunity. With this design, the mRNA-based vaccine will include a snippet of genetic code in the form of mRNA that gives human cells the blueprints for this conserved stem region. From there, the immune system can learn to target it. There's already data to suggest this target could work. Before NIH researchers used an mRNA-based design, they developed a similar HA-stem targeting vaccine that appeared safe and effective in a phase I trial. The vaccine uses stabilized protein fragments of the Ha stem stuck to a nanoparticle. Last month, NIH researchers published results showing that this nanoparticle vaccine induced cross-reacting neutralizing antibodies against influenza viruses in the same virus group (H1). And those neutralizing antibodies stuck around for more than a year after vaccination. The vaccine candidate has advanced to a second trial. The researchers are hopeful that having multiple platforms in the works will increase their chances of getting a successful vaccine. For now, the mRNA-based vaccine is starting with a small trial of just 50 people recruited through partners at Duke University. Three groups of 10 volunteers will get different vaccine doses to find the optimal dose. ....this season is a big goal of mine. Looking at my schedule when school starts back down here, the best time for me to come to Winnipeg is when we play at home versus Montreal on August 24th. Just in general if I can make this happen(Fingers crossed nothing comes up!) what are the things a first timer must do on gameday? Sites in the city itself? Best restaurants? Etc. Thank you!

The whole purpose for an elected government is for it to mediate between all the competing and dynamic interests of society to ensure domestic tranquillity and a balance that allows for a good quality of economic and social life. As soon as you institute laws like banning homicide and violence, for two small examples, you are, by definition, interfering. The degree and scope of government intervention is the part where argument comes.

I'm here to remind people that it was the Giants in 2021 that first tried him out at DB.

It's not interference it's regulation for the greater good. No different than any other restrictions applied to various markets. We just had a multi page discussion about Manitoba privatizing liquor sales, and the opponents to the public only WITH price fixation call me socialist for this? My goodness, our current liquor sales system is about as socialist as you can get outside of communism.
