It's a crisis... but it's the CFL and rebuilds can be done in a year. Elks need to have a cold, heartless, top-down look at how to hit ctrl-alt-del on this mess. (And if they were in the East, they might've even got a partial rebuild from August castoffs and still had a shot at the final playoff spot... No hope of that with them looking nailed-on for 5th)6 points

Cui needs to go to the league and beg for a special disposition. Pay a fine for going over the coaching limit or something. The League needs the Elks to be relevant and that won't happen if they can't move on from Jones and his crew.4 points

lol (ks) "Chris Jones made it clear, over and over again, on Tuesday as he was introduced as the new coach and general manager of the Edmonton Elks — he intends to not only rebuild the football team, but entrench himself as one of the CFL's greats. He said he wants his name to be mentioned alongside the likes of Wally Buono, the CFL's all-time winningest coach, and John Hufnagel, who ranks no. 9 on the all-time coaching wins list. "This is where I try to build a legacy," Jones told the media Tuesday as he stood in the Elks' locker room, surrounded by plaques bearing the names of some of the all-time greats in CFL history. "Four years from now, I don't have a crystal ball, but I can tell you we're going to work as hard as anybody. We're going to be organized, we're going to play fast and have fun doing it." He received an enthusiastic welcome from Ian Murray, the chair of the Elks' board of governors. "This is the first proactive step to turning around the problems we've had," Murray said.😂 dec 21 2021. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/cfl/edmonton-elks-hire-chris-jones-head-coach-general-manager-1.62940643 points

That's way more telling of how bad the current generation of CFL QBing (and coaching) is than anything Harris has done with the Riders. The Doug Berry/Kevin Glenn mediocrity combination of decades past would be in the top 3-4 of the league this season.3 points

I've been thinking about this actually... I wonder if the Bombers are playing the long game on this... knowing if they basically don't use the rule at all for the first half, even 12 games, of the season... they are almost assured to get that bonus draft pick... also, knowing our team can compete without using the rule... then come crunch/playoff time, they start to use it more... maybe I'm overthinking it... but I feel like it's a possibility.3 points

Your regular Ballsy is a moron post. "Rider fans should be very happy they have QB Trevor Harris. Given the injuries etc…he is playing the best at his position in the entire league.. He gives the @sskroughriders a chip a chair and a chance each week! #CFL" Collaros, Kelly and honestly you can make a case for Adams have been better. Best my ass.3 points -

There were some legit QB's available this year, namely Dane Evans. But Edmonton went all in on Cornelius. Jones has been terrible on QB's and it's unlikely anyone would entertain playing there who is experienced with him as coach/GM. The community owned teams seem to be the perfect opportunity for inept personnel guys to run the team into the ground. There's no one telling Jones what to do and worse with Cui being not a football person. Imagine the Bombers under Wade Miller having Edmonton's QB situation. Not a chance. First thing they did was get Drew Willy. Then Matt Nichols. Then cut bait on Willy when the time was right. Then grab Collaros when needed. Jones would have signed Streveler to a 3 year guaranteed extension. As much as we love the guy he's not a franchise QB.3 points -

The difference is you sub the American running back in for the Canadian receiver you designated and not an American. That's how teams are using it on both sides of the ball. It's a DI that can sub for designated Canadians. Because it has to be a vet the guys are usually starters but there's no restriction on them subbing in for other Americans so functionally you wouldn't notice Jeffcoat sitting around waiting for his 22 snaps, he'd sub in for Haba every play of the game if they wanted. Even as a team that doesn't function in the sense of Americans are inherently better than Canadians...the Bombers...most teams are glaringly opposite...it makes sense to use this designation on one guy on both sides of the ball if possible (Bailey would be the only real option for us on O right now) to give way more roster flexibility if you end up needing it due to in-game injuries. Say on O right now. If Agudosi was listed as the starter, Bailey the backup and designated nationalized American, you sub Bailey in for Agudosi the second snap of the game and he plays as normal. Now you have designated Wolitarsky and O'Leary-Orange as the Canadians Bailey can sub for. Say Wolitarsky gets dinged and needs to sit two series, Agudosi can take his place on the field. Say Demski goes down and BOLO steps in, again you can sub the American in.3 points -

Man the Elf's played badly. If they cut Cornhole this year, do they still owe him 'guaranteed money' next year? 0-9 looks likely considering they play us and the Lions for the next 3 weeks. Outta the playoff picture mid-season is a very bad look. Suitor has always been bad, but I don't remember him being as bad as he was last night. TSN needs to do something about it.3 points

And no nationalized American use at all. Such an opportunity missed on the DL. All they’d have to do is play Haba on the first snap of the game and designate Jeffcoat. Then say Thomas or Lawson go down in game you don’t have to play the other guy every single snap the rest of the way.3 points -

Agudosi ready to turn on the jets Blue receiver will start in Ottawa Saturday By: Jeff HamiltonPosted: 6:14 PM CDT Thursday, Jul. 13, 2023 Football is often referred to as a game of inches. It is also a game of numbers. When it comes to the numbers game, perhaps no one on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers knows it better than receiver Carlton Agudosi, now in his third year with the Blue and Gold. For the last two weeks, Agudosi has been the odd man out, a healthy scratch because although the Bombers like what he brings to the table, there just aren’t enough roster spots to go around. Agudosi’s patience has paid off, as he’ll play against the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday. An injury to Janarion Grant has cleared the way and Agudosi understands he needs to make the most of his opportunity. “I just want to go out there and make plays when the ball comes to me,” he said. “If it doesn’t come to me, still be sound on my assignments and a physical presence out there. I want to be somebody the team can rely on.” Agudosi is eager to go having missed so much playing time lately. “As a competitor, you always want to be out there with your guys, especially after I missed time last year,” Agudosi told the Free Press following Thursday’s closed practice. “I understand how valuable each game is and that nothing is promised. But at the same time, you just have to stay focused, not get too high or too low, understanding it’s a situation you have to reflect on and find ways to get better.” Agudosi first signed with the Bombers on April 30, 2021, spending his first season on the practice roster. He was assigned there again at the start of 2022, but made a spectacular CFL debut in Week 6, hauling in two touchdowns in a 26-19 victory over the Calgary Stampeders. Everything seemed headed in the right direction, only for Agudosi to suffer a season-ending ankle injury the next game. He returned this season as a projected starter. But after some underwhelming performances through the first three games, the Bombers started to look elsewhere. “During the last couple weeks I’ve been doing my best to get the defence prepared, playing scout team the best I can, to give the DBs those looks so they can make plays,” said Agudosi, who has nine catches for 120 yards this season. “From top to bottom, we’re all on the same page as far as being ready and being prepared. That’s the most important thing and there’s a standard here, so you just want to make sure you hold that standard to the highest form.” Agudosi has kept his spirits high throughout the process of working his way back into the lineup. It helps he was added to the one-game injured list rather than being assigned to the practice roster. That means he gets paid his full salary while the Bombers add it to their collective salary cap. Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea has been pleased with how Agudosi has been conducting himself, understanding the challenges that come with feeling like you’re on the outside looking in. O’Shea said the team, notably the players, ensure there’s a positive environment within the locker room and people are treated and respected equally. Whether you’re on the PR or active roster, you learn the same materials and go through the same schedule, with the expectations also the same for everyone. Still, it’s not always easy, with the pay being less on the PR and the desire to play sometimes being overwhelming. “(Agudosi) has handled it like most guys do — very professionally,” O’Shea said. “You give them that short window of time where they overthink everything, and you just leave them alone. You have that initial conversation, give them that short window of time and they bounce out of it very quickly. There hasn’t been too many guys that you have to go and say, ‘Hey, listen, let’s go. Pick it up.’” He added: “You certainly have to give them a grace period because it’s a gut punch. But I would say they quickly look around and realize that they’re in a good spot.” Jeff.Hamilton@freepress.mb.ca3 points

I called the elks today because my wife bought 5 full priced tickets for the August 10th game and my wife didn’t realize kids under 12 get in free(we bought for 3 kids). I was hoping to get an extra ticket or two to bring some of their friends…the lady offered me 20 tickets for free. She said they’ve been told to fill seats by any means necessary and could care less about people even paying.3 points -

Depends on who votes right. Young ppl likely dig Trudeau where as the straight white middle aged male likely leans conservative federally but that's because we used to have all the money and Land, we still do but it's not as fun now. God help us If PP gets in. I have faith tho that the fringe vocal minority groups that we used to ignore b4 social media was a thing will still be ignored. In the end tho us prairie folks in Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta who tend to go conservatives federally, we don't matter. Not saying I vote conservative, I'm just saying we live in blue provinces. Winnipeg sometimes is orange tho.3 points -

So on this topic... The only reason I still live in AB (actually just turned down a job offer in Brandon) is because my wife - an only child - is the sole caregiver for her mother, who has MS and is in a care home at only 66. My wife needs to be in AB to take her mother to appointments and such. The MIL has been there the past 10ish years and recently had to move to an extended care floor as the MS worsens and she has less function. All this to say that you never know how many days you've got on the clock. Stay as healthy as you can and live every day to the fullest. The pandemic kicked my ass and I gained a pile of weight. I stopped drinking and cut out junk in January and dropped about 50lbs as of July. Hoping to lose another 10-15 and I'll be where I want. As much as I miss beer and the occasional evening whiskey, I'm much healthier, both physically and mentally (tied together very tightly!!) and living a much better/happier life.3 points
