  1. We're playing the Elks folks. Expectation should be a big win. I don't like our front 7, but I expect a big win. I think we should change out either Grey or Neuf, but I expect a big win. I don't like our roster management, but I expect a big win. Elks haven't won this year, so I expect a big win. We're playing the freakin Elks, so I expect a big win.

  6. wait - so we think Gray was the problem, now? I thought it was Neufeld that we hated? I am a bit lost....

  7. We need more than a warm body at this point. We have nobody - and one of our starters has had trouble staying healthy. Having no DEs on the PR is a fail right now.

  12. with the full projected staring offence playing finally...there should be no reason we don't march up and down the field...and I bet we see the real scheme emerge and some different things that we been sitting on

  13. Got a feeling that they are going to come out and try to run the ball a lot tonight. Edmonton is terrible against the run and might be looking at 30 carries between Olivera, McCrea, and the rest.

  16. I don't think the issue is one or two players needed to be recruited. The issue from what I saw is the whole team as a collective just looked like they checked out after building a decent lead and had ZERO urgency or killer instinct. Whatever the opposite of clutch is..... that is what everyone was doing against the Red Blacks. I expect receivers to make catchable catches, running backs to hold onto the ball tighter when up by a few scores and after already gaining a tonne of yards well past the first down marker, dlinemen being able to wrap up and make a tackle, dbs not watching from a distance as a mediocre qb and receiver make a pass and catch, etc....

  18. I never want a loss...dont get me wrong....but sometimes a bitter pill is required....and we have guys here, that know the system so dont need a bye week to be integrated, as nothing goes on during the bye other than the coaches making the call to make a change...so getting the jump and have film to review during the bye allows you to make even better decisions or comparisons I also 100% agree with your second paragraph....that has been a major contributor since game 3....I almost think thats its also a case of the co-ords not showing their cards right now...and at 4-2 and really 1st in the west most likely a given as the Lions aren't all that and as good as people like to think....I'm more or less okay with that if thats the case Is today the day now that we have our full projected Offence playing the game we see the true offence Identity and what we are gonna be 9 times out of 10...I'm thinking so because our front 7 as it is for this game is gonna need it Lemon would be a perfect add....and I all for it...Dude is training harder right now than he prob did in off-season...seen some online clips...Plus he is a vet and would need zero acclimation of any type prob as most teams have money tied up elsewhere...and nobody has a real need...yet....but we do now as HABA is on the 6...and we have....lemme check the PR.........................................................Nobody I bet we see a Lemon drop during the bye

  19. All there really is to say about the roster management is this: if you took the names out of the equation and just explained the decisions (“dressing an American fullback”, “having no backup import edge rusher”, “not using the new DA rule out of stubbornness”, etc), tell people Chris Jones is the one doing it and all they would be talking about is how stupid he is

  20. We are going to know what kind of game this will be early in the contest. If we come out early, control the line of scrimmage, we win handily. If we struggle to establish a physical presence early .. if we aren't moving people off the ball or aren't able to get to / contain Corny this may be a long night.

  23. Always thought Dobson was a much more talented (and somehow angrier??) version of Matt Sheridan. Sheridan was a bar bouncer at Guard, Dobson is that but with a lot of athleticism. I'm legitimately excited to see him full time, for sure.

  24. Dobson is starting at LG tonight.

  25. The entire inside of the ol. Neuf has been toasted. Gray too. Gray should be the 6th ol in the heavy set. He’s great on that edge. Dobson, Eli etc aren’t good at that. Eli in at C is the big win we need. His first touch goes for a td. Bell time!

  26. Dobson for Gray or Neuf is one of the changes I was hoping to see this week.

  27. Roster management is a little baffling... can't wrap my head around Maruo getting the start... however I would still take O'Shea over any coach in this league and it's not close. I'd go as far as to say he is untouchable for as long as he wants to continue coaching here. I don't think the conversation about moving on from him even starts until he has missed the playoffs two years in a row.

  29. New look for Bombers defence Practice shirt emphasizes committment to hard work By: Taylor AllenPosted: 5:24 PM CDT Wednesday, Jul. 19, 2023 The Winnipeg Blue Bombers defence sported a different look Wednesday. Instead of their traditional practice uniforms, defenders took the field for walk-through in button-up work shirts typically worn by individuals in the automotive industry. Players’ names were printed in a circle on the right chest, while a logo that read B2W (which stood for back to work) was on the left. Defensive co-ordinator Richie Hall came up with the idea. “Every year Richie has a theme that we kind of rock with. Like last year, it was toolbox. So, everyone had a toolbox, some tools, and stuff like that,” said linebacker Adam Bighill. “It’s just something to unite everybody in a common thought. The idea is when we step in this building and step on this field, it’s all about work. It’s just always reminding ourselves, ‘This is what we do, why we do it, and who we do it for.’” The defence will also have a different look for Thursday’s tilt with the visiting Edmonton Elks as linebacker Les Maruo and dimeback Redha Kramdi have been inserted into the starting lineup. Malik Clements was felled by an injury in last week’s overtime loss in Ottawa, so in steps Maruo, a third-year player who was selected fourth overall in the 2021 CFL Global Draft. This will be Maruo’s first career start. The 27-year-old was born in Japan before moving to Wichita, Kan., at a young age. In the CFL off-season, he returns to Japan to play in their professional football circuit — the X-League. “It’s a big blessing, and just to represent Japan, and Global players also, because there’s only one roster spot for Global players and there’s so many guys trying to get to the CFL. So, just being able to represent the Global side of things is a huge blessing,” said Maruo. “Finally getting to start, it means a lot to me.” After taking over for Clements last week, Maruo — who played at the University of Texas-San Antonio before starting out at Hutchinson Community College — took down Redblacks quarterback Dustin Crum for a sack in the fourth quarter. “Les is an explosive guy. He’s got a ton of skill and he’s got a ton of weapons, but he really just hasn’t had a ton of opportunities to show it,” said Bighill. “He gets in for a few reps and plays his part, but you see him make plays. He’s consistently and continually learning, but playing really well. His physical attributes are very, very, very good.” Kramdi, a 26-year-old from Montreal who was selected in the second round of the 2021 CFL Draft, had the starting gig at his fingertips a few weeks ago when veteran Alden Darby, Jr. was benched in Week 3’s embarrassing 30-6 loss at IG Field against the B.C. Lions. Kramdi finished the game, but picked up an injury that knocked him out for the next three weeks. Now that he’s healthy, the Bombers are trusting Kramdi with the job. He got his first start last season in October in a game against the Elks. “(Darby) is like a big cousin. He’s always making sure I’m good on the field, off the field. If I make a play on the field, throughout the whole camp and even last year, he’s the first one to be excited or point it out in a meeting or try to give me tips so we have a great relationship,” said Kramdi. ”I don’t really see it as me starting over a veteran American guy. I just see it as me having a good camp and them taking a chance on me.” The Bombers offensive line hasn’t looked itself this season, and Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Ottawa was another tough outing for the group. Despite getting sacked at a higher rate than usual, quarterback Zach Collaros doesn’t agree with the criticism being thrown at his blockers. “Those guys are unbelievable. Those are my guys. They’re the best group I’ve ever played behind. Things happen in games. Sometimes the average viewer can’t account for what’s happening,” said Collaros. taylor.allen@freepress.mb.ca Twitter: @TaylorAllen31

  34. I'm agreeing with what most folks are saying, but it's the freakin' Elks.

  35. No because you don't gain a roster spot. Functionally Cole/Maruo will be the same if they want to use Cole. What they could do is nationalize Alexander or Bighill which would give them huge flexibility to get Parker or Cole on the field more, especially if there is an injury to a Canadian or Maruo. They can't really do it for Jeffcoat or Jefferson this week because there's no depth there.

  36. To be fair, Zach said the same thing about Darvin Adams in an off season....Adams wasn't re-signed because it was obvious he wasn't the same wr anymore. Zach is a true leader, and that means he will never throw anyone under the bus.

  37. The baffling part is burning a DA on a fullback...Mauro has shown flashes....just not sure about full reps....and his coverage skills or ability to read whats going on....maybe he will surprise....but still an odd move

  41. Wouldn’t that be nice…. I think we could all use a game like that.

  42. I mean, obviously we can’t draw an exact line between roster decisions and losses but Jesse Briggs seeing his way onto the field and blowing tackle after tackle on the final drive in regulation for Ottawa last week is a fairly safe line to draw. Does having a better option in the lineup win us that game? Obviously impossible to say but it likely would’ve given us a better chance to win.

  46. I think with what is on that roster we just very well may have the worst defensive front seven in the league.....when you look at starters and depth I think it would be hard to find one worse. I am really concerned with only Bennet as a DE to rotate....I just can't make sense of how thin we are
