Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news

All this hate for Rourke is the sourest of grapes. We love Canadians!!! Not that one though!!! Virtually every player dreams of being in the NFL, but let's hate on Rourke for actually doing it!!! Let's poke holes in his nationality and college experience but completely gloss over Wolitarsky every time it is accurately pointed out he is just as fake a Canadian, faker even!!! That TSN and the rest of the major outlets latch on to a QB over any other position is an obvious no-brainer in terms of getting eyes on content and should be a surprise to NOBODY. If Bryan Burnham and Trevor Lawrence among others can sing the kids praises on Twitter (they could have just stayed quiet) I have no reason to think he was anything but a team player that earned the respect of his peers up North and down South. He's getting to do what 99.9% of Canadian QBs will never get do, and the CFL keeps getting brought up as part of the conversation. We should be happy for the exposure as well as the kid but leave it to some of you guys to be miserable about something positive.12 points -

as I thought.....Haba....Hansen...Clements all fully dressed and participating in practice today.....Grant running sprint drills....I bet all 4 could be in the BB lineup...but 3 likely Haba...Hansen..Grant in,,,Mcrae..Jackson...Mauro out.....now wouldn't that be a boost all around7 points

Bailey is so criminally underpaid you don't move on from guys like that to save money.6 points -
Knowing your team only has a small chance of victory, and expecting them to lose are two different things as well. Even in the darkest days of Bomber football I never, ever went to any game thinking we can't win. I knew odds were stacked against us, but if I truly thought we had no chance of victory I wouldn't have gone. Some of my most cherished games I ever attended were when we were terrible but somehow got it together for a game and knocked off a league leading team. The odd game like that is all a football fan has in dark times. Think Regina last week. They were absolutely euphoric after they unexpectedly beat BC. It will probably be their highlight of the season.6 points

yeah you have to replace them...but you will be replacing them with entry level deals, or just a tad over league minimum as opposed to 3...and 4th contract guys...so the cumulative number adds up...Best bet for next yr vet deals likely to be off the books will be Darby, Lawrence, Thomas, Augustine, Briggs, Hallett, Kramdi, Kolo and maaaaybe Neuf as we need to integrate both Eli and Dobson into the starting lineup or risk losing Dobson, as Eli is locked up into 2025. Not sure what plan is for Cole and Clement moving forward, but likely one will see the road, and we replace with a rookie...I could also see Bennett not making the cut next yr, especially if we are able to land one of, or both of Bennet and Kongbo from the Hammer. Bailey I doubt we move away from as he is pretty key to the offence as a whole and he is dirt cheap...so bumping him up for next yr wont kill us, and he has done nothing to play himself off the team...Unless they make the decision to actually give Agudosi a real chance and see if he can fill the Bailey role, as his rep in the NFL journey was the same type of tenacious player, especially on ST's...But u can bet next yr that the Lawler/Schoen/Demski/woli quartet will be back4 points

Hoping for a win and expecting one are two different things. I suspect some are conflating the two.4 points -
I expect the team I am cheering for to win every game the play. Logically I know it is impossible and I will have disappointments but I still expect it. "Any given Sunday" speaks to how I rationalized the games in the bad years, I would not make the effort to watch if I expected my team to lose.4 points
-
I have never expected a loss either. Always a chance for a win, it's why you play the game.4 points

I'd keep him at his current contract which is only marginally lower then what he "should" be getting paid. If its Schoen vs Bailey it's not even a discussion on who gets the big raise and who should be let go. It's not impossible to find talent at a cheaper price to replace the 500 - 600 yards that Bailey will get per year. He's not the only receiver in the league who blocks.3 points

I thought the new CBA changed the ELC min to about $72K? EDIT: According to the new collective bargaining agreement, the 2023 salary cap is set at $5,450,000 (average $121,111 per active roster spot) As per the agreement, the cap is fixed and will not vary with league revenue performance until 2024. The minimum player salary is set at $71,000.3 points -

It would be crazy to me if they didn't. He has no role in the offense for that amount of money and is not a good special teams player. Calgary was going right at him and walling off the contain main on the kick side for punt. There's lots of Canadian backs around too. Would be nice to have that H back type guy who could be passable in the backfield if really needed, at least manage pass protection if Oliviera had to go out.3 points -

Oliviera about $115,000 with roster/housing plus some incentives. Augustine is about $110,000 with his roster/housing bonuses, don't think he'll reach any other incentives. 50-55k saving if it's a rookie Canadian. Less if it's a guy further along his career. Mike Miller is another one opening up some money they might be able to use this year. He's about $100,000 after housing.3 points -
Even in the shittiest of shitty years I never took the mentality of expecting a loss. Choose to look for reasons they can win instead.3 points

you're right... I missed that... and I thoroughly disagree... Born in Canada, played minor ball in Canada, played high school football up to grade 12 in Canada... yes, he is Canadian... I can't imagine why someone would argue otherwise Sidney Crosby spent his 15-year old season at Shattuck St Mary's in Minnesota and has been in Pittsburgh since he turned 18... is he Canadian?3 points

Exactly. There is nothing happening Sunday that we haven’t gone through before . I said it last year and I will say it this year - we won a Grey Cup against Hamilton in Hamilton. The circumstances will never be tougher than that. I’ve been there for Labour Day when we got caught by Butler - and when we smoked them in front of expanded seating the next year. I don’t remember anything about the crowd either time except how quiet it was in the blowout with the exception of Bomber fans having a great time.2 points -

Yeah I think this yr we get the best olineman available with our first pick...It's time to groom the next Eli/Dobson.....and keep that cupboard full with top talent...Next pick best be a high upside defensive guy on the line, as the 2 guys we drafted last yr...ain't gonna be anything, and Bennett won't really be either...unless he makes some dramatic turn around this yr, but he will be turning 28 next yr during the season...so not like he is a young development project I do like Cole tho, and can see a role for him...christ see one now, and he has been getting more and more reps on defence when the game still matters, so obviously the team see's it too. I still think he would make a killer safety or SAM personally, same with Ford, and this was his one time shot for the NFL...guys like him are dime a dozen in the NFL talent pool coming out of school every yr, and with U.S football experience, I was shocked he got a deal, but it was based mainly on his testing numbers....so hopefully we lock him up after his rookie deal...He also is a real good returner, so would be extra valuable on the game day roster2 points

Some have mentioned SMS savings in moving on from Bailey. Would we really want the team to do that? Is he really hurting the salary structure as it is? Sure a rookie is cheaper but Bailey has proven to be clutch at critical moments. Would rather see rejuvenating the foot soldier ranks, like Augustine, Kramdi, Briggs level guys.2 points -
