  1. I wasn't sure who posted it but there was some discussion involving Bob Irving, Duane Forde and others who noted that there's a concerted effort to brand Kelly the face of the CFL and in doing so, it might influence voting. It rubbed me the wrong way. Don't get me wrong, anything that can be done (within reason) to create hype in markets that are struggling I'm all for it. It's why when some around here were griping about how TSN was focusing on BC's new owner so much that I took the exact opposite tact. We need invested owners like that. It helps create an invested fanbase. That said, don't snub a guy simply to fit an agenda - that's just wrong. Brady has EARNED both the MOP and MOC this season.

  4. Nichols actually finished the year with one more knockdown than Holm (12 to 11, both just behind Willie Jefferson’s league-leading 13). Where Holm statistically outshone Nichols was tackles (68 - second only to Biggie on the team, to 37), sacks (2 to 0) and INTs (2 to 0). I suspect some of the difference in stats is due to how often each was targeted in the pass game (I can’t find those stats) and it is likely teams were more hesitant to test Nichols. As for physicality and tackling, Holm may not be everyone’s cup of tea because he can’t break a receiver’s spine like a BA used to, but I found his closing speed on receivers pretty good in coverage, and he looked to me like a pretty sure and sound fundamental tackler, even if not laying the lumber. And yes he missed a few, as anyone does. But I think of his sack against Tre Ford as a solid example of his discipline, fundamentally good knowledge of his angles, and sound tackling ability. Seeing how much escapability Ford has displayed, given that Holm quickly wrapped him up on an open field tackle was quite impressive.

  5. Really? He shouldn't have been starting at any point this season.

  6. It wasn't because it was the right thing to do, it was simply an attempt to make sure they have their best roster available if they make it past Calgary. If he appealed and lost (which he would have), he'd be available this weekend but would have to serve the suspension during the West final against us. I'd do it this way too but let's not pretend it was anything but a strategic move on their part.

  7. Just wait until Dinwiddie wins coach of the year and goes on a 10 minute rant about roster management during his acceptance speech! 😂

  8. Yup especially your last sentence and in his spare time he saves dogs. Add an award for that BO gets himself a trifecta.

  9. Who starts doesn't matter much as long as they use both, Steinauer is screwing with their heads so they won't know what to expect, not a bad strategy to keep them off balance. If they can make Fajardo uncomfortable and contain his runs, they should have a decent chance of winning the game. Fajardo is a tough nut but he usually cracks at some point.

  10. Judge is an excellent LB and definitely should have been in the running for an all star spot. I would take him on my team before Awe every day of the week. I don't feel like he does the dirty, after the whistle stuff like Awe does.

  11. Didn't make a lot of sense to change Crum from a scrambling & running qb to strictly a pocket passer. Khari tried to fit him into his system & it didn't work. Like trying to match a ball with a square. Coaches have to be able to build an offense around the strengths of their players which Jones didn't do. It's still ridiculous that Dyce stayed & Jones goes. Dyce is not a good HC.

  12. QBs don’t throw in nichols direction out of fear, so he doesn’t have the stats. The voting is primarily based on stats. I think he should have been MODP. It still should have been Nichols and Holm for western HB. Lee over either of them is crazy.

  13. I listened to Ferguson describe the "situation" on Hustler's show. When the podcast comes out, I find the timing, and you can listen too. It's complicated.

  14. If he was an Import back....I think they would have excluded him...Being a Canadian...with the 2nd best all time yardage total...I believe many see the reasoning an will get it correct That being said...even if he was an American, he has the better, more impact and consistent season regardless, and if snubbed that be pretty sad

  15. so FWIW, both Dave Naylor and Marshall Ferguson have publicly said Brady O should win the MOP over Chad Kelly. Not sure if that means anything, but it's interesting that there is some national media sentiment in Brady's favour, which is surprising to me.... maybe there's a chance they actually get this right?

  16. when he cane back this yr he actually looked like a Buffet Table type tho...That extra tonnage didnt help with any lower body injury prevention I need a new knee, and my surgeon said I didnt need to be 275 anymore...so dropped 30 lbs and hardly notice it now....so have delayed any surgery

  18. If he's healthy he absolutely does. And they mix Mills in quite a bit too. Nothing wrong with their run game except for the fact that they lean away from it too much these days.

  19. Honestly if you're not voting yoshi (and lord knows he deserves this recognition) I think Neufeld was the actual choice. To my untrained eye he has been the most steady this year. And I say that as someone who believes he is replaceable.

  23. I think he may be taking a yr off...or so....kinda flopped all over other than when he got corn holed in MTL when he was the HC....Surrounded by good Co-Ords can see him being a good headcoach that players play for....That likely wont be a scenario in SASK in near future

    GDT: Game 10 @ Vegas

If they can get a result tonight, it would give them a big boost on this road trip. Win tonight and take that momentum to Arizona and St Louis.

  25. I think CFLPA all star awards are more prestigious anyhow. Voted on by players of opposing positions, DBs voted on by WRs and vice-versa, and so on, and no votes for your own teammates. Still going to be an element of popularity but who knows better than the players?

  28. My lasting impression of judge is when he stepped in to tackle Oliveira in calgary.... and came ho holding his shoulder and then wanted no part of tackling Brady rest of the night.

  32. Some random data as we enter the playoffs, or “why your team won’t win”: For Calgary or Hamilton to even get to the Grey Cup, they would need to pull off the greatest playoff upset in CFL history. Each of them recorded 8 wins less than a team they would need to beat to get to the championship game. The biggest margin between team records for an upset win was 7 (Sask at 9-9 beat Edm at 16-2 in the 1997 West Final, Ottawa at 8-9-1 beat Calgary at 15-2-1 in the 2016 Grey Cup). In fact, only once has the difference in wins been greater between two teams who played a playoff game against each other. In 1981, 5-11 Ottawa met 14-1-1 Edmonton in the Grey Cup, and were a huge comeback and a field goal away from pulling off the miracle upset. BC and Montreal both finished 2nd in their divisions, and neither club has ever won a Grey Cup in the CFL era when finishing second in the regular season (BC has won 4 Cups from 1st and 2 from 3rd, Montreal has won 5 from 1st place, and 1 from 3rd place). A bit of an asterisk for the Alouettes as they did win the 1949 Cup after finishing 2nd, but that was in the pre-CFL era. Winnipeg has won at least 14 games for the 5th time in club history. None of the prior 4 teams won the Cup (sorry). 1960 14-2 and lost the West Final to Edmonton, 1993 14-4 lost the Grey Cup to Edmonton, 2001 let us not speak of it, and last year again less said the better. Toronto is the second team to ever win 16 games in a season. The only other team to do it (1989 Edmonton) did not make it to the Grey Cup game. And should the Argos and Bombers get to a re-match, it will match the 1995 Grey Cup for the record for the most combined wins (30) by two teams playing for the title, when 15-3 Baltimore beat 15-3 Calgary.

  33. I think Nichols had more...he did at one point...not to poo poo on all hour Holm luvin but no way he should be ahead of Nichols considering his physicality and ability to run stuff better and tackle. The dense media in Canada just ran and slurped up Osh's early in the season quick feet yip yappin

  34. Yeah he doeant have to do it all himself...Mills is good too...and Logan adds even more that BC I don't think can handle

  35. As long as he's still playing, he can still shoot for that goal! Calgary did look like crap against us last week but it was a nothing game. The week before was a game that mattered for both sided and they whooped the Lions (in BC too). McCheese only through for 123 yards but the Stamps still came away with a 41-16 win. If they're going to have a shot at the upset, they need to follow that game plan - limit what McCheese is asked to do & run the ball down BC's throat. The Stamps also didn't have Carey for that game either so having him back in the line-up only strengthens their run game.

  37. I'm undecided on who I want to win this weekend. I'd love for BC to come here and get **** kicked again. Just so there's no debate about who is better.... But watching DD leave with an L is also very appealing....and of course BC not even being good enough to get here wouldn't hurt.

  39. Good for the Lions not appealing... it definitely makes a difference in their line-up, but he earned that suspension.

  40. I wouldn't expect Strev to accept a role as a 3rd down specialist, if he comes back at all he'll be looking for more of an opportunity to start, which rules out the Bombers. Any team paying a QB $500k won't have much left over to pay their backups. I agree, they'll cut him loose as soon as the opportunity presents itself, doubt he makes it to camp and a chance to compete.

  42. I believe it's after the team's final game, not when the season ends. For players on the Riders or L's, it would have been Oct 22nd because they had a bye the final week while Redblacks would have been the 29th because they played this past weekend. All the other playoff-bound teams would still have a PR to pull players from if needed (ex: injury replacements).

  44. I'd bet good money Masoli and Harris never play another snap in the CFL, Nevermind start for a team. I'd also bet good money both are already as good as gone from their respective teams. It would be absolutely insane to keep either one over a guy like Brown. Neither have done anything in 2+ years now. Hamilton depends on how their season goes from here. 1 and done. And I'd be calling Walters about Brown. MTL too. Fajardo and Bo need to win in the playoffs to save their job imo.
