  1. Sources say the management team will all be making league minimum, as their salaries are being offset by a generous donation from previously unknown local business man "Made Willer".

  2. I can just see Buck weighing his options now. "On the one hand, the position pays more, it isn't too far from Manitoba, it's with one of the leagues more stable organizations and gives me a chance to be a head coach like I have always wanted... ... ...but Noeller!"

  3. 2 year deal for Walters, no details available for McManus or Goveia. Formal announcement from the club expected later today. https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2023/11/28/bombers-gm-walters-assistants-have-new-deals

  5. Maybe it was front loaded so it could dip in time for the front office guys to get covered. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least. For all that’s happened the thing about mos that sticks with me most and always will is just after the 21 gc stadium parade celebration, he and his wife walked around and picked up garbage off the field. Could’ve left it and trusted the grounds crew to do it. Could’ve directed such a group to do it. But nope, they walked around and picked up every thing them self.

  6. Rose's play overall was better than Houston's....and yeah the Jeff's could have used some rotational help and it would have been very beneficial. Fox alone would have had a presence in the middle and a push that woud have allowed just that bit of needed heat that would have took the Faj's quick timing plays and made them hard to execute. Also I don't think Houston can play up on line and have the skill/experience to disrupt quick passing, let alone consistently tackle..Rose can...also i highly doubt he would have got roasted by that winning td...he has seen that play hundreds of times and would have recognized it immediately, and that would have been difference in breaking it up...if not stepping in front of it... Coaches and players have said...Rose is the calming influence out there and basically another coach...he would have been a huge factor all game over Houston...Blinded by the shiny pics our Coach was

  7. Right on Booch.....Doug Brown was quoted as saying if you as a team are not evolving and changing you are stagnant....Stagnation means you will fall by the wayside ...I don't like that scenario and although continuity has it's advantage....you have to be continuing with younger and better in some instances....Football 101

  9. So when Lalji and Naylor (of all people) say it, you take as gospel but when other, more locally in touch media report on it, you take a wait and see approach?

  10. Retaining Walters was single handedly the most important move of the of season.

  11. I'll just say this, thank ******* God. I couldn't imagine the team without these guys
    4 points
  12. You could easily make the argument that the only reason we've kept these guys together for so long is because of the cap. Otherwise other franchises could offer a crazy amount to steal guys away. But no one has been able to do that, so for the most part they've stayed.

  13. Thank ******* God this got done. Our Commish says the cap pn coaches & management will remain in place for the foreseeable future. Seems that the CFLPA was unhappy that salaries were outstripping that of the Players so the cap won't be lifted. It's time to tell the CFLPA to go shove it. Stay in your lane & just play football.

  14. we need to insert Eli...Dobson, and let Gray be the 6th....Holm to safety and we need physical/man to man type HB/CB's to replace him and compete against incumbents at corner...Need to move on from Biggie as a starter, but a role player if cap allows. Get Ford signed and have him play SAM...and if roster allows it have BA as a DA and he can slot in all over the defence back 8...save for MLB...and make either Bennett or Kongbo our FA priority Jackson cannot eat up a valuable DA spot....and if we have a stud to go with the Jeff's that more than adequate..that be exceptional...Need a dominant nose....and this draft year after 1st pick draft guys with ability to take on more a role, and sign/trade/draft a Canadian punter and have 2 Globals to be used in rotation and on teams. I totally fine with offence if all the pieces are back, but competition needs to be brought, and ZC needs to be on a short leash and if he sucking...pulled even if for just a few series to see what he might not be seeing while behind center... That isnt much a turn over and would allow us to run it back with a solid amount of the core guys who are still top notch

  15. I would get rid of a lot of dbs tbh. Parker, Nichols, holm and Kramdi. And in an ideal situation both Parker and Kramdi would have to come in a take a starting job from some one. Even the back up nis, I like to exhume and the Halley’s. But imo you can’t carry 3 ni dbs who can’t man up. Not when you carry 7 lbers especially. A guy like rose/ba is good for culture and continuity. But I don’t think we can rely on either any more. Luckily you can rebuild a secondary quickly. I think some one is likely to over pay Houston and take him off our hands. I like the guy as a person and pull for him but he’s not what we need.

  16. Parker got hurt in the game and missed a series. Als scored on the series on a play where the Bomber's D got confused about who should have been where. If Rose was on, he slots in for Parker, no confusion.

  17. yup...and they better overpay the cap if need be...Dont pull a Riders hahaha

  18. Yep.,..that is where Danny Mac was gonna be no matter what tho. All to the end of 2025 sounds about right. We want that home GC very badly.

  19. That's fine. And I've also been saying the same all year. But MOS has made no secrets about his philosophy and it just strikes me as funny that you're continuously surprised by it.

  20. u just dont get it....and last 2 grey cup failures had a similar feel to them...and that's smack dab due to this philosophy...it worked in 2019..2012....going on 4 and 5 yrs now....you don't evolve and adapt...u fall by the wayside...If you think giving guys like Thomas..Briggs...Jackson...McRea...Bennett...Kolo..Gauthier..Miller...Cadlawader...Schmeckle..Biggie roster spots "just because" you like em, and they been good soldiers, or bring in competition but don't actually 100 percent let them earn a spot....bring back some PR guys we have had kicking around for yrs, but never can push a non-performing vet off the roster....and draft a bunch of Ham and Eggers whose sole purpose is only teams...then I dont know what to tell you....and that would be an epic failure of an off-season of ...well epic proportions. Especially when you have younger, high end talent waiting there....with no hope in hell of getting a shot...and they know it....so kiss your talent goodbye. Fact many don't know is we almost lost Woli due to this, and the lack of use a few yrs back....And it surprised me he actually re-signed. I can see it with others tho now, as things have changed, and we lost 2 straight cups and some of it was due to roster issues....I dont give a crap with the "yeah buts"..."we been to 4"...yap yap yap...means diddly if you don't win the last game of the year....and we should have been reveling in 4 straight wins right now.....but we aren't
    3 points
  21. yup...ease on outta there and focus on 2024 and Grey Cup 2025 in our barn with us in it...Next season and the minor turn over required and some change in roster limitations will go a long way in ensuring we are in that game

  22. Only way I see Buck accepting the Sask gig is that he leaves family put here, and family is ok with that...lot of a big if there, and I also think he is smart enough to not grab a position where it could be an utter tire fire still for likely a few yrs...and possibly ruining any chance again down the road elsewhere ....Like what is currently happening to Dyce in Ottawa and Lapo there before him....Sask has a lot...like a lot of work to do to turn that around...total roster overhaul....will be an all new coachig staff most likely as any new guy likely doesn't want the crap that was there. A new HC dropped in there is not gonna turn that around any time soon...Plus there is still the Oday factor....that guy is prob the worst GM in the league I not too concerned tho about replacing a OC if we have to, there is a few options in-house, as well as quality guys we could either poach with an upgrade to title/pay and a few who are currently employed...You have to remember playbook stays here....sure Buck can take his philosophies and ideas with him, but thats nature of game anyway. I want an OC with the right mindset, and thought process....the plays themselves are irrelevant in grand scheme as all teams run same stuff with wrinkles to suit the players they have, and the mindset of the HC and the Oc

  23. I am guessing he feels his time is now for HC.

  24. Lawler isn't a FA. I don't think Brady even considers other teams offers honestly. He's Blue and Gold through and through.

  25. I can certainly understand Buck wanting to be a HC, but in Saskatchewan? I hope he pulls himself out of that ‘race’ and holds out for a better opportunity down the road.

  26. Organizational continuity is HUGE. When you've been as successful as we have for as long as we have now, it's hard to keep all the key players in place. People look for different challenges. Pieces get picked up by other teams. It starts to erode the very thing that helped you "get there". Happy news on a Tuesday morning. I look around the CFL right now and, in terms of vacancies, there are essentially no attractive options. Sure, there's the opportunity to evolve yourself as a coach, get experience and perhaps build something. That is *SO DAMN HARD* when you don't have a quarterback. Stepping into a situation where that position is an unknown is not setting yourself up for success (or a long tenure as a head coach).

  27. Bringing back Walters and the rest of the management group is huge. We will see if Buck ends up in Sask but that would be a big position to fill. There are not a lot of quality OCs in the league currently.
    3 points
  28. No one signs a new head coach because their team is already in a great position. You have to believe in yourself that you can get the job done and turn the ship around. Buck watched it happen here and probably believes he can do the same elsewhere. Would make me sick to my stomach to see him in green though.

  29. Yeah, Brown could become a star. Or he could become another Nick Arbuckle. Some of you have put Brown on some kind of a pedestal & worship his shadow. It's ridiculous. He has a handful of starts. What's Zach supposed to say? Brown's a bum?? O'Shea won't get rid of Zach.

  30. If they've made it to this point of the hiring process, they obviously both want the job. And they want it because they want to be HCs and they want and deserve pay raises. Because of the management SMS, they can't be properly bumped with their current teams so they have to go elsewhere and take promotions to get what they deserve.

  35. What evolution or changes did you see this year? Go back to the training camp threads and there are comments about the lack of competition. Same with roster management, its been there all year. What evidence leads you to believe MOS will cut some of our older vets, hold open competitions, infuse some new talent onto the roster and do a better job of roster management?

  36. Good time as any for our PK % to start trending upwards please and thank you.

  37. 25...but we also have some no-contributers that are new and need to be expunged too....Thats a lot of non-turnover from 5 yrs ago...continuity is good when you dont continue with some too long...we have/had too many continued guys from same time line....need to know when and where to spread it out...and last 2 yrs we havnt at all....and when we did have some guys who could have...should have stepped in...they were blocked by sub par tenured coach's favorites....and thats not a good thing....

  38. I guess all of that house hunting in Hamilton during Grey Cup was enough for Walters to decide "what the hell was I thinking...I better unplug from JBR and stay in Winnipeg".....
    2 points
  39. I really don't like the comments Oshea made in his season ending presser....how he thinks some his vets are still more than capable and sees no reason to move on from some...Big Red Flag in my eyes...and not a good forshadowing for 2024 at all...as it puts team even further behind in reloading and re-tooling for 2025 Either he's really playing sneaky buggers and not letting on...or he is as clueless and stubborn as many suspect, and still playing the favorites and favoring his guys....and I lean to the latter....if we go thru this same bs at start of season I hope Walters has it in him to play the heavy and be Osh's boss!

  40. I hear what you’re saying, but there’s going to a mess…. And there’s going to a mess in Saskatchewan.

  41. I do expect more uncertainty this year though just from guys on the retirement fringe even. I think the early keys to the off season involve possibly replacing buck, doing the most to bring back lawler, schoen, Brady, and brown, and getting a real punter ideally a Canadian who can kick off too.
    2 points
  42. So does buck. He’s been here longer than most every one including mos. thats what id tend to believe. Though it does happen that guys go through the process to get experience. Normally when that happens you hear them quickly pull their name out from final consideration though. If I was in that position deciding between mace and buck I’d take mace. Defensive guys tend to do a better job of working with asts to run a D and team where offensive guys imo struggle more with micro managing every thing. Offence in all football is what sells and draws. If you’re an offensive coach and become a hc you really need to own the offence. Fans expect dynamic exciting offence right away, no matter general success. Personally id rather have a more polished none plop disciple as oc. I think buck needs more polishing as an oc little on a hc. He hasn’t been able to reign in Zach or calm him down. Idk how he’s going to manage defensive players or veteran coaches under him. Though if buck leaves I expect him to go hard after our key offensive free agents. Brady, brown, Bailey, lawler and schoen. And I expect him to get more than one or two of our guys.

  43. Not really. Good teams have players/coaches etc poached all the time. The fact they've been able to keep people here for so long has been a bonus, but isn't something I think we should expect moving forward. "Let Brown walk" as if it's only up to MOS? Brown wants his own team. The Bombers have too much cash tied up in Collaros to let him go. There's no real trade market for him. Again, this isn't a "they don't want to keep good talent!" So much as a good teams lose good players, just like they always have....in basically every sport.

  44. Good, these guys are good but hopefully 2 Grey Cup losses will light a fire under them to find some impact players

  45. I’m glad the Walters news is finally out. I knew weeks ago it was going to happen but couldn’t say anything lol. Kyle does NOT want to go anywhere. If he’s not with the Bombers he likely steps away from football. I didn’t know about the other 2 which is great news!

  46. People went gah gah over Michael Reilly when he had done less than brown as a backup. Brown has accomplished more than Arbuckle did too. Also did more than maier had done before the stamps gave him a role. Collaros is 35, he doesn't have that many years left. If Brown is as good as he's looked it's worth the conversation. Now it won't happen with this management group but we're a fan message board, it's a good conversation to happen.

  47. If you're either Mace or Buck, why would you want to be tied to ODay as your GM. He's proven he can't bring talent, especially on the oline, doesn't draft well and has to be on his last chance?
