  1. I love the kid, but I love the Bombers more.

  2. I love Oliveira but this statement is just patently untrue.

  3. In all honesty....I would prefer we move on from the Canadian back.....easiest spot to fill, and have viable back up...can be rostered on the cheap even into a second contract compared to a National. And if it saves us 100k+ in the process that can be directed elsewhere...its a no brainer.....Kudos to him on getting paid, but if his intent is to "re-set" the RB market he can do it on some one else's dime

  4. It doesn’t really fit into what other guys have said and done to stay here. I can remember two years ago Brady went on a podcast and said he wanted to get paid , and that was before he had really done that much. That’s fine, I’m never mad at a guy wanting to get paid, but I don’t really get attached to those players in the same way. It is a business. If you gotta go, you gotta go. I would say it didn’t work out very good for Lawler (in Edmonton) or Lewis (they clearly didn’t need him).

  6. Nice for him, but the market will dictate the price and RBs are in good supply. I wouldn't go too high for someone who can be replaced by a cheap American.

  7. ya as good as he was this past year, do we really think he's better than..... sayyyy........ 2019 Andrew Harris?

  8. If we can only keep one, I'd keep Schoen over Brady O. Some team that is lacking in Cdn talent is likely to pay Brady the big bucks to kill two birds with one signing.

  9. Never stopped good old contrarian tburg before.

  10. if he wants north of 185k....see ya....dont need to wreck our SMS when we can easily replace his production with an import back....his Canadian ratio spot there isn't a requirement or we fall apart....use part of his slary on an entry level RB...and funnel the rest to Schoen

  11. Praise is an interesting guy likely to be in camp imo. Not the raw athletic type, more polished and a really good football player. A lot like Habba imo. Redmon is a dt not de. Buts he’s got elite athleticism for a de as a very lean 6’2 290. Fits in great with the second pass rushing dt like walker. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jalen-redmond/32005245-4461-3410-5102-5e80a97e82ca Ayers is a great prospect wil/smallish mlber. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/michael-ayers/32004159-4555-9722-5f4b-57ce957d05e3 Grownowski is an elite blue chip qb prospect in the cfl. I imagine it’ll take a while for him to work his way up if an nfl coach doesn’t fall in love with him. Witherstone is a big strong db, excellent tackler, big time play making potential, explosive first step and jumping. Not a guy who plays db because he’s small and can’t play wr. He’s got huge upside.

  12. Gonna put this here rather than the RIP Thread so more posters will see it. One of the greatest Blue Bomber DE's who ever played died today. Jim Heighton played 13 seasons in the CFL from 1969 to 81. Including nine with the Bombers from 1970-78 where he was dominant. He was a CFL Western Conference All Star twice in 1972 & 74. He was 79 years of age.

  14. The primary point here is: You can win with a lesser talent at the QB position. From that POV, the Als didn't make a mistake signing Fajardo Sure, they could do better at that position - but mission accomplished for 2023

  15. Still cannot figure out how to copy and paste the line-up from the other page, so here it is: Ehlers-Scheifele-Vilardi Perfetti-Namestnikov-Barron Niederreiter-Lowry-Appleton Jonsson-Fjallby-Gustafsson-Iafallo Morrissey-DeMelo Dillon-Pionk Samberg-Schmidt Broissoit Hellebuyck

  16. Oliviera won't get close to 200k. Everyone understands that RB is the position most at risk of injury as well as being the most replaceable on the field. Nobody will commit those dollars to one player at that position. A handful of coaches/GM's don't believe in using Canadian backs as primary guys still because of the depth issues it can cause (you basically need to build your roster prepared to run an American back even if you have a Canadian starter). I think the absolute ceiling would be 160 hard money (this could be structured with a significant amount for reporting) with another 40-50 in performance/play time bonuses.

  17. yup...thinking and wanting that.....is fine but coming out and stating that, and it being your intention....not such a smart tactic/move

  18. Imo he's an average professional CFL QB who thinks he's better than he actually is based on what I hear him say.

  19. Bombers can afford Schoen and Lawler as much as any team can afford two great receivers. SMS is going up a bit, and Schoen likely gives us the hometown discount to stay. KW will make the salaries work....always has...and you Rider fans will cry foul about it. Brady O is the most consistent since Pringle, but most dominant? Nope. I don't think so. Cornish and Harris were much more dominant in their prime. Brady O lacks that consistent big run potential. He runs consistently for average, but he needs to be fed the rock a lot to pile up yardage. I honestly believe a guy like Stanback, Brown, Carey getting 20 touches a game behind our OL would see very similar results. Brady O had almost a 100 touches more than these guys behind a far better OL.

  20. I think Brady's agent.... primarily an NFL guy, is my understanding...... has been feeding some bad info, and maybe doesn't know as much about the CFL.

  23. I'm in agreement with many here. I like Brady. I'd like him back but not at more than $180,000 to $190,000.

  24. I could see someone on a cheap QB contract doing just that. Secure a reliable RB for your developing QB. But, that ain't us right now.

  25. he'd have over 2000 all purpose easily, and would be very interesting to see how he could be used

  26. I agree on Gronowski. Throws a really nice ball. Reminds me a lot of Dru Brown.

  27. Look at his stats over those games before calling something ridiculous. Of course a team can win with average or even below average QBing if they have a great defence. Good gravy man. We won the 88 and 90 Grey Cups with very pedestrian QBing. Cody's numbers and QB rating were the 6th best in the league over that time span. That is lower echelon Qbing any way you slice it. Their defence over that span...fantastic.

  28. Yeah, 27 and already had a bunch of NFL looks. Fits the bill perfectly. O’Shea prefers CFL rookies that aren’t true rookies.

  32. He won the Grey Cup. He had a good game and the bombers secondary played a horrible game. Doesn't erase the fact that he threw 14 td's and 12 interceptions all season and he's never thrown more than 18 touchdown passes in a single season. He's stop gap qb for a team until that team gets a bonafide starter.

Sure, absolutely. Hope we can get there one day. Til then this could help more than half of all Canadian families, those who need it most (those under 90k without private coverage). Putting off dental care leads to much worse issues in a hurry, preventative care being put off by lower income earners is a strain on everyone. This is a very good program. Not sure how any reasonable human can look at this and call it a sham when you consider the good that could come of it for even a second.

  35. I mean you can go back and forth on maier cs. Faj if you want, but really those are the 5 qbs who took the bulk of the snaps for their teams... if he was healthy Trevor Harris easily outperforms fajardo. So already he's dropping to 5/6. Being a better qb than the likes of Taylor Cornelius doesn't impress overly much.

  36. He made a big deal about how his success was a team accomplishment and that he doesn’t see WRs blocking on other teams like he does here. Well it isn’t because they aren’t being asked to. So hopefully he can motivate them - for his sake.

  37. Yeah. If he is looking for bank it shouldn’t be here. “Reset the market” somewhere else. That is free agency stuff.

  38. I like Brady a lot but I'd argue Cornish, Andrew Harris and Blink were all as or more dominant than Brady.
    1 point
  39. It was mostly a defensive thing and not turning the ball over. The game he had in the Grey Cup was above any game he had during the regular season or in the playoff game. Call it what you want to call it.

  40. I think they did the best they could last fa period. If I was them id be kicking down the door on guys like brown and elite blue chip us prospect QBs. They could have a dynasty if they strike gold at qb. How many QBs in the league would the ALs have lost with I wonder. I think legit they would’ve lost with Harris. Vaj is a coin toss to throw 4 tds or turn it over 5 times. Would they have lost with ford at qb? Idk that’s tough imo. Masoli, Kelly, brown, collaros, I think they all win with. They did a great job of putting them self in the best position to win with out a dominant culture or qb. Hats off to them.

  41. 5th is bottom teir. Especially when you factor in teams that had injuries at the position and had to use multiple players at the position throughout the year. Maier vs. Fajardo is like debating which kind of **** you want.
    1 point
  42. Faj-JJ was 5th in passing yards and 5th in TD passes & he ran for 340 yards which is 2nd best among QB's last year. He's a middle of the league QB, not a QB who had 1 good game. I'd take him over Maier who had more throwing yards and TD's but also threw a **** ton of picks.

  43. I don't underestimate any teams silliness in FA. However, teams that want to blow their brains out in FA won't do it for a RB...at least we have never seen that in the CFL yet. I just can't see any team paying 1 running back over 180k. Once you are in that neighborhood you are in elite DE or WR territory and teams will pivot to that if they have that much cash to spare. RBs....and I don't want to minimize the position...just are not worth 200k a year because of supply and demand. It is my firm belief that the Bombers would have absolutely no issue whatsoever with finding a RB that is 1000-1200 yards in the bank for much cheaper. I think the rest of the league feels the same. There is an upper limit to RBs, They aren't particularly difficult to replace. If Brady O isn't NAT we aren't even discussing 180-200k because it would be a 100% lock that no one would even entertain such a notion.

  49. For sure. Once a player gets a game or two from qualifying it becomes really tough for them to get rostered. It's where a lot of guys get cut and out of the league.
