  1. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel. And in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say.

  2. Everyone went to Bomber games with an onion on their belt, as was the style at the time. But yellow ones, not the white ones, because of the war.

  4. Neufeld was arguably the teams best OL last season so him being back is good. Just wonder what the plan is for the young guys.

  5. The Rourke watch is nauseating. Really and truly and we've had far better Canadian QBs that didn't get the kind of attention the Rourke bros do. One is a NCAA kid, and the other is a PR NFL QB. I don't understand why every time one of them takes a poop it's the first story you see on TSN.

  6. WHAT???? That's news to me. Never seen that bit of info come up here before...

  7. That's all well and good... but what's the succession plan for the OL then? Cause I don't really want to see them carry 7 on the roster again. It's a bit of a waste of a spot... if Eli and Dobson are that good shouldn't they be playing? Guess it can all work out if they simply replace the centre with Eli.

  8. So about $200,000 USD difference not factoring taxes for a person who also doesn't necessarily live or train in Canada. If he's active for 8 games he blows the CFL salary out of the water. The CFL is not going to compete with the NFL. The guys in the CFL have to be ones who have more or less ended their NFL dreams.

  10. Some people here put too much weight into age on olineman...as long as they aren't just fat turds with zero mobility (Dan Clarks) then mid 30's isn't an issue unless they constantly in the tub. Eli wasn't signed for 3 yrs to be a back-up...The gig is his next yr and likely we dont bring Kolo back. Gray is the perfect 6th lineman as he can play all the spots, so I can see Dobson getting the legit opportunity to un-seat him. And a guy signed now doesn't guarantee a spot come June either...well shouldn't and hiopefully Oshea has learned that lesson...Maybe Neuf becomes the extra guy as he is versatile as well...I just hope this spring there is legit competition in camp and no gifts and loyalty plays this yr

  11. Why would he regret saying it? It's the truth. Every football player wants to play in the NFL, earn the big bucks while playing against the best competition in the world while being treated like gods. Rourke was the best QB to come to the CFL in decades. He lit up the league in his 2nd year. He deserved the accolades.

  12. Really just a little? Here you go. Need any help moving them goalposts? Hahaha https://www.sportsnet.ca/nfl/video/nathan-rourke-grateful-for-time-in-cfl-but-nfl-has-been-his-goal-since-day-one/ --- When did being competitive and self-assured become character flaws? Believing in yourself and not compromising on your goals? Good for Rourke and all the other Canadians in the NFL that we aren't upset about! Any player with enough talent explores and exhausts every single path to the NFL they can find. Look at Brady. Look at Tyrell Ford. This isn't new or unique to Rourke. It's not til the door firmly slams shut that guys accept the CFL as their next best destination; Rourke has his foot in the door still. If anyone is tired of the CFL being a distant second option for every football player ever born then wow have I got bad news for you. Doesn't stop the CFL from being way more fun to watch and be a fan of, even with dogshit offenses. Rourke will be back in the CFL in time and maaaan would I love for the Bombers to acquire him, not just for his top-tier talent.... but for all the backpedaling that would occur here! Oh and for the record, Tre Ford the "pure Canadian QB" tried out with Vegas and New England... he wanted to be in the NFL, too... Tre Ford only wishes he could be on a PR in the NFL right now

  14. For me, if I was in his shoes, I’d prize playing over any thing right now. Yes he’s young and he could kick around for untold years cashing millions in pr and the odd ar cheque. But, he has next to no chance at actually playing. Guys like flutie and Garcia went down with years of dominance. Not a partial year that ended in disappointment. I would legit play 2-3 years in the cfl if I was him then go south, but with a big guarantee and bonus. He’s in a rare situation where his window is soo big he can aim for more than clipboard and coffee boy. Look at strevy and mbt. Crazy amounts of pr time camp invites work outs etc. plenty of money made from the nfl. Never a shot at meaningful time as qb1. Rourke could spend the whole rest of his career down south. And not get a sniff of being no1. It’s very easy to fall into that good enough to be here not good enough to start position as a qb.

  16. I was thinking of just a random hypothetical. What if the Bombers decided to dump Zach and sign Rourke? Only because I'm a Pat's fan ad they just claimed Nathan from waivers.

  18. I would imagine it`s more about load management at this point. Jones needs to have a banner year in the GM and HC department or he is toast. I`m sure they will land a couple. Just not to the extent that they think. For some reason, they believe that the entire TO OL is coming over along with about half the defence.

  19. I like having Neufeld back. Perhaps the best way to go is to replace Kolo with Eli and Gray with Dobson.

  20. Apparently, Andrew is not the only former Argo going to the Riders. Over at Riderfans, they are quite confident that pretty much every Argo FA is coming over there to follow Mace. Yea....you know because players love going to losing teams...lol.

  21. I'm one of the oldtimers on this site. I don't want to invoke the age thingy where I say the fans had it a lot harder 50-55 years ago. All the weeknight home games during the season started at 8 pm on Tuesdays, Weds & Thursdays. As well as 2:30 pm on weekends. Mostly Sunday. No one complaind about the time the games started saying it's too late for kids. Before I had a drivers license, I'd take a Stadium Bus from Riverview (where I lived) at Osborne & Jubilee all the way to the stadium. We'd pass through Riverview, go west on Corydon Avenue & into River Heights ending up on Kenaston & taking the St. James Bridge all the way to the stadium. The bus ride took 90 minutes with about 30 stops on the route. After the game, I'd run for the bus parked at the stadium that would take me from the Stadium to the East Side of the Bay where I'd wait for the Osborne bus to take me home. Sometimes I'd go right back to where I picked up the bus at Jubilee stopping at the opposite side of Osborne. Or get off at Morley Avenue & take the bus to the end of the route where I lived. Getting home after midnight & having to be at Churchill High the next morning for 8:25 am. No one ever complained. Fans just went to the games.

  22. Regardless of his comments afterwards, I hate that he's American trained for the most part and all the media hype (Farhan and Naylor mostly) talking like he's a CIS guy. If Forde was given equal hype, I'd be less pissy about it. I'm FAR more interested in the guy that's born here trained here and played all his football as 3 down. Rourke played a LOT of 4 down before the CFL and never really wanted to be here. I sincerely hope Rourke stays down there and never comes back. I'll gladly beat the drum for Forde and any other CIS QB to be a full time starter in the CFL.

  23. Context was always clear, he never wanted to be in the crl, never thought it was a possibility. The fact that every American feels that way is not the point, the point is you don't say it. **** that guy and everyone trying to make him some kind of face of the league. A league he never wanted to play in and left at the first chance he got.

  24. Was at the game last night. Not sure if it was because it was Saturday night, the team is winning, or both, but was a fun atmosphere in the building. Haven’t seen it like that in a long time.

  25. I guess when leaving a league that gave you a break to get a start, you actually should think about what you say....Many fans , including myself, take a little bit of umbrage with his initial comments when he left....Saying we 'the CFL' were an 'unforeseen detour' smacks of 'well we were okay but a road he really didn't want to go down (detour)'....Unfortunate choice of words .....You never really want to burn bridges wherever you have played or intend to play in the future

  26. Yup...never liked the Rourke hype train from day one..also he has a pretty high opinion of himself which isnt translating down south And our Ford...he either got real poor career advice...or he truly thinks his turds don't stink...there are thousands of guys just like him...and better...waiting for a workout ...born..bred...trained in the U.S who's phone will ring long before his...nothing about his measurables and minimal game film from college and 1 yr up here screams gotta sign this gem...total waste of a yr...he was never getting a PR spot I hope he does as don't need the boot licking incessantly up here Strev yup...he will be up here next yr...he's done down there

  28. For what we have on the roster inside right now, I’d agree. Now I think it’s possible we’d benefit from flipping hardrick and gray, but that’s an awful big risk. Gray is a fantastic guy as the 6th. Honestly most guys took turns being the worst. No easy one guy was the problem. Though kolo has never been a starter.
    1 point
  29. No I'm asking to spur a conversation about it. It wasn't Neufeld or hardrick... nor Bryant IMO so really it comes down to Kolo or Gray. Just curious what others views are.

  30. Maybe, but at the same time I don't like dealing NAT OL. That's how you become the Riders. I'd much rather stockpile them and bring the NAT DE you are thinking of home in FA, which is probably a pretty sure bet if we want him.
    1 point
  31. They're probably a good bet to land a couple of guys. Toronto will probably lose a few guys to FA and I can see a lot of player turn over in Sask that frees up cap space so they can be the highest bidder.
    1 point
  32. Neufeld was his usual steady self. No issues with him coming back at the right price. Kola you have to let go to FA. Eli needs to be in that spot in '24. Let Dobson duke it out with Gray for LG.

  33. My opinion - the Jets are a fun team to watch, and that breeds fun in the stands. Great pin-point passing and the guys are working hard, which is all Winnipeg fans want - they are willing to spend their hard-earned wages on a ticket, but they want to see the players giving it all, and even if they don't win, that's what true hockey fans appreciate. Vilardi has some of the best hands I've seen on a guy in a long time, like KConn level hands. Where was this guy hiding? Never heard of him before. Same goes for Iafallo. Both guys seem pretty happy to be here, which is always a plus, unlike a guy like Dubois whose "I'm too good to be in Winnipeg" attitude was bringing everyone down. Looks like we've gotten rid of the whiners and the passengers, and what we are left with are the guys that want to play and give it all for the team. Dare I use the term "FIFO Culture"? I just hope we don't get Bowness wanting to play any ex-Navy Seals on the fourth line next season lol....

  34. 13,515 rocking the building for sure, Jets playing a fun aggressive style, People speak of ehlers but its really Scheifele becoming an elite 2 way center thats making that line go. Vilardi adds a guy who can go to the net front. His hands are tremendous. When Connor gets back, id put him with Fetts and Names or whoever they decide is 2 center and RW on that line cuz that first line is just total domination. 55 really stepping up this year, seems like a completely different guy from last season.

  35. It's his first year. That's not lingering or clinging to a dream. Those things apply to Strev. Rourke is getting the best coaching in the world to improve his skills & he's getting games towards his NFL pension. This is Rourke's one and only chance. I expect he'll keep chasing the NFL dream for a year or two more.
    1 point
  36. I don't begrudge people chasing the dream, but Rourke has taken a dim view f the cfl and I am tired of everyone hanging off his nuts.

  37. I'm pretty sure you can claim a Canadian tax credit, if you paid foreign income tax. There might be more red tape for larger amounts, but it can be done. Lol, take it easy. I thought maybe I was missing something, so I asked.

  38. **** quit nitpicking...roughly give or take...from what I heard bc was gonna pay him 750k per...so he made 55 percent of what he could have...if throwing away 350k+/- to chase a dream where he behind the 8 ball is wise then so be it...but it ain't...he will never get a legit shot...with the injuries this yr and poor play the fact he never got scooped tells one all they need to know...time to give it up and make nice coin in canada

  42. this is all I'm saying....... .... though not the first time, AH33 would make an odd decision. Also, maybe I'm mis-remembering, but I thought Harris wasn't just coaching with the Nanaimo team, but was part of the ownership group, and was going to be President/HC. But it's been a minute since I read about that whole situation, so who knows if maybe something changed. Also, in other CFL news....
