  4. There was a bonus of 100k due on the 15th but that would have been in addition to the 100k guarantee that was in his contract. If they waited until after the 15th, they would be into Corney for 200k.

  7. Ladies and gentlemen, the #1 team in the NHL, your Winnipeg Jets. So many little things that impress me about this team. The work on the boards, the cycle, the rolling of 4 lines, the simple breakouts and smart passes that relieve pressure on their zone. And Broissoit seems to have learned from Hellebuyck with his economical style, minimal movement and flopping, just solid positioning and letting the puck hit him. And different heroes every night. This is a team just feeling it right now.

  10. Working with an OC that can teach Cornelius how to read defenses would be a huge boost to his career. Cornelius needs a coach that can help him process the info he has from being a starter in Edmonton to becoming a winner. He needs a line that will block for him. He'd get that here from our linemen. He'd get all of that here working with Buck & Zach. Cornelius sure as hell didn't get it working with Jones & McCadoo in Edmonton. Coming here would rejuvenate his career. Cornelius may have to take a pay cut though. If he's willing to learn.

  12. We need to get younger at certain positions like MLB. We need to upgrade our interior DL. Our secondary is inconsistent. It can be great one game & shitty the next. Was Demerio Houston a great corner or did he see the football a lot because teams felt they could attack him? I 'd like to see a couple of changes to our OL. There are some young lions ready to step up that need to play but languish on the bench or PR in favour of aging veterans. I'm not sold on Brady being our starting running back if he wants a ton of $$$ to stay. I'd flip the backfield to an American running back because it's the easiest & cheapest thing to do. Schoen has to get re-signed. As far as Booch goes, his constant criticism of the way O'Shea uses the roster wasn't something I paid much attention to prior to this past season. However, as the year went on I started to look at how he built the roster especially with the new DA rules & Booch was absolutely right. Why do we have an American fullback as a DA? Why do we dress players & then not play them? Why are some obviously talented players not starting?? Why do we not build a roster that would make our team better? Then this past Grey Cup, it got to the point of almost being bizarre playing injured Biggie & Schoen in the GC because had we won had they not played their names wouldn't have been on the Cup. Well, we lost. If we had two healthy players at those positions it may have made a difference. If it wasn't for Booch & to a lesser extent Mike, I may have never paid attention to the way the roster was being used. So, props to them for doing that & making me aware of what was going on. It's almost like O'Shea needs to have someone save him from himself. With Walters being a lame duck GM at the time, it appeared there was no one there he was answering to. I sure as hell hope that has changed with Walters new contract.

  13. This is giving Prukop too much credit. Even though Cornelius has struggled with his mental processing in the CFL, he's much more talented as a passer. He has a very strong arm and has flashed capable starter ability at times. Prukop, on the other hand, scares me when doing anything but running a QB sneak. If we could upgrade from Prukop to Corn as the short yardage backup, that would be a win. Especially if Buck can get something out of him that Chris Jones couldn't.

  15. I want to hear all and everyone's opinion on how the Bombers perform...game wise, individual player wise and management decisions....This is what makes this site tick....Some comments go a little overboard and a few posters are a little too sensitive....Sometimes it's wise to grow a thick skin and roll with the punches...I hope Booch returns ...a knowledgeable fan like him would be sad to lose...This place is all about the Bombers ....comments good bad or indifferent are and should always be appreciated...

  16. Lurkers help keep the lights on and if, as a community, we drive those people away it's less likely the lights stay on. In a professional setting are you someone who thinks those in a meeting who are shy, introverted or hesitant to speak are worthless or are you someone who looks for ways to give them a voice? Do you recognize that different views, perspectives and experiences are valuable and hearing them might benefit the team as a whole or are you someone who rejects that person because they lack the confidence to put themselves out there? Food for thought. Frankly, I'd rather this be a place where *anyone* feels safe to contribute .. where those with knowledge foster a spirit of understanding of the game and are humble enough to recognize their opinions are not gospel .. I want more voices, not less.

  19. Yes ....hindsight is always 20/20 BUT I could see the potential early....You have to admit he had one helluva arm and those passes eventually had accuracy.....which unfortunately we didn't benefit from as he moved on...His rise to something special came in Ham.....He finally figured the game out there and his teaming up with Flutie for over 5,000 yds was quite impressive....Reminds me a little bit of Schoen and Zack when they get rolling...In any event Danny ended up having a solid CFL career and his being a part of the Bombers today is greatly appreciated

  21. I won’t deny that he had potential, but he was hardly the sure thing with Winnipeg that people seem to remember with 20/20 hindsight. His 1990 Grey Cup performance was one TD pass in garbage time with the team up 43-11 and the defender fell down in pass coverage. He had a 45% completion rate in his time in Winnipeg, and did not even become a full time starter until 1995 in BC, when he threw for 19 TDs and 26 INTs that year, then was let go to Edmonton. He became a back-up specialist in 1994, known for coming off the bench to pull out games, like the Grey Cup that year. But his passer rating was middling at best. Even in his MVP season in 1999 in Hamilton his rating was a career best 92.4, and he was only over 80.0 four times in 17 years, while being worse than 73.0 eleven times. He only hit 60% in completion percentage once. He threw more INTs than TDs in 11 of his 17 seasons, and only once was his TD:INT ratio better than 2:1. Now, he was good at piling up passing yards, going over 4,000 nine times. And he was brilliant at avoiding sacks in Hamilton, where 4 times in 7 seasons the team gave up less than one sack a game, including a ridiculous 7 in 18 games in 1999 (credit the o-line and his quick release for that). And he was a winner, having a funny streak of getting to every other Grey Cup (and winning every second time he got there) for his first few years (1990 win, 92 loss, 94 win, 96 loss, 98 broke the streak as he got to the Cup but lost, and then winning in 99 in his last appearance - his only win as a starter). Bottom line, he was very good but it took more than a few years (and three more teams) after he left Winnipeg to hit his elite level. So it wasn’t an obvious gaffe when we let him go (although I personally was a bit disappointed). If I remember correctly, it was a contract dispute with Cal Murphy that led to his departure. He wanted starter type money and a starting role which we were not going to give him (and neither did BC for 3 seasons after he signed there) and it got a bit personal, with Cal quoted as referring to him as “that little red-headed piss ant”. One last story about him I remember. One of the Bombers star defensive linemen or linebackers of the late 90’s and 2000’s (I cannot remember who) mentioned when he was with Hamilton, that McManus would telegraph if it was going to be a running play or a passing play every single time based on his foot position pre-snap under centre, and he was unaware he was tipping off teams to it. Despite this, his sack totals against were astronomically low, in large part due to a standard three step drop and release. And now you know……the rest of the story.

  22. If there are a bunch of high quality FA linebackers available, that could drive the cost down. Only so many positions and so much $ available.

  23. Chris jones has never let silly little rules stop him before. I have no freakin clue what to expect edm to do or look like other than spending money foolishly. The position has changed a bunch. Teams don’t play 250lbs mlbers any more or funnel to a guy much. It’s more two ilb/olb types. It’ll be interesting to see what bc and tor do with their lbers and if we see big pay days in fa.

  24. I'd take Ford but agree with @JuranBoldenRules that Edmonton likely doesn't move him.

  25. With the team perpetually in win-now mode and assuming Dru Brown signs elsewhere would it make sense for us to trade for Tre Ford? He would instantly answer our questions surrounding QB depth and being a Canadian on his entry-level deal it would free up cap space even versus what Brown was making last season. With his mobility, we also wouldn't really need to dress a 3rd string qb so you end up essentially with two DI's elsewhere as a result of this move. I think Edmonton would be open to trading him but might cost a 1st round pick. Tre Ford was kind of insulted last year by not being given a chance sooner. Now he is insulted again after playing so well to come into camp as the backup. No way do I see him returning to Edmonton after this season when his contract expires. So why not trade him for some value now?

  26. I don't really know if the NFL thing is holding anything up. But both are probably looking for +++ dollars and Walters is doing his thing, trying to make it work. If they're too far apart and it's not going to work, I don't know if we'll necessarily hear about it until much closer to FA. I know that Darren Cameron's on vacation right now, if that means anything. Might be an off period for the office.

  27. Find me even one post where roster usage problems were denied. One. You won't find it. The only thing people argued about was how serious the effect of this problem was and that is completely fair imo. Look, I'm guilty of carrying on with Booch about the effect of roster management during the season. I just hoped he would give it a rest in the offseason because it is a horse that's been beaten to death. Bombers get rid of STC...and somehow roster management gets worked into the argument. It's tedious.

  29. Just leaving this here for everyone to enjoy. Beyond the 28 consecutive games with 3 goals against or less (2nd longest streak ever in the expansion era) they have given up 2 or less in regulation in 16 straight.

  32. Given the Biggie talk this week, 3DN has an interesting article about potential FA linebackers in BC. The part about MLB no longer being viewed the same way these days caught my eye. Wonder if GM's feel the same way. "However, middle linebacker is no longer viewed as the premium position it once was and the Lions will be wary of overspending in a spot where statistics are often inflated." https://3downnation.com/2024/01/06/tough-decisions-loom-in-b-c-lions-loaded-linebacking-corps/

  33. When I looked back at the 3dn reported salaries the cost of back up RBs and QBs tor most teams was stunning. Strong arm, strong runner tough to bring down in the pocket but yes. Strong arm and running qb athleticism can take you far as a qb. But it won’t take you to being a great starter. honestly I’m not sure you can teach a pro qb to read and run an offence. If it isn’t in the tool kit by that point I think it could very likely be he doesn’t have that strategic analytical field general mind set. I also feel the more raw talent and athleticism a qb has, the less they develop the cerebral side. You can dominate games at college and below with out that side. Corny has all that raw package stuff. That is just a notion of mine though, and even every rule has its exception. It would be very interesting to see though how corny and buck would work together. I think that challenges both of them to do and be better. Not keen on us paying big money for that though.

  38. and I think this is giving Corny FAR too much credit... he's shown nothing other than a strong arm, which I couldn't care less about. Show me you can read a defense AT ALL and maybe we can talk.... but he has never been able to do that. Some of the most mind-numbingly stupid decisions made over and over again.

  40. Disagree, this site runs on ad revenue, member or not, the more clicks the better. Beesides $, I myself was a lurker on OB.com for a long time before becoming a, what, 13 or 14 years and running contributor to that site then this one. Some lurkers are just members that haven't signed up yet.

  41. Lurkers are worthless. Let them leave they don't contribute anything anyway. Here is the problem... there are some people who will vehemently deny that oshea has roster management problems and some that will take that denial entirely too seriously. Make no mistake, Mike oshea for being the best coach going had always had roster blind spots. Our roster usage was complete garbage last season. So I can understand why people get mad when it's denied. It's like denying the sky is blue. But it's also not as awful as some people think. Bombers did play most of the year on hard mode last year with their roster usage.

  42. Look, no one was trying to drive Booch away. Wasn't anyone's intention at all. You are right that we can all have egos at times for sure and definitely behavior can be atrocious. That being said what was so atrocious that was said to Booch? All everyone was pointing out is that the roster management and MOS criticisms are now getting over the top. If that hurts Booch's sensibilities that was not the intention. It's the offseason. Let's see what happens this offseason before deciding what MOS will or won't do before INSISTING that he will do nothing. He moved on from his STC because results were below expectations, that's a good start....but when people acknowledged that Booch tried to sell us on a spin that would keep the MOS criticisms going instead of just acknowledging a good move by MOS and management. Why? I think what most of us who are saying we are tired of this narrative are trying to point out is that we literally have not had a discussion over the past 8-9 months where it hasn't been spun back to this same criticism over and over again even when it is completely inapplicable. I am not against upgrades at any position that make us younger and better. I just don't believe in setting someone adrift that is still very good until you have secured that upgrade.
    1 point
  43. Oh relax, Speed You know Booch isn’t leaving. He likes the trolling, telling people how much he more he knows, and the ass-kissing from certain posters too much to walk away. He’ll be back.
