  1. No you launched into your tired old tirade when evidence points to this situation not being the same. I agree there's too much loyalty to some aging vets... but I don't think it's a problem on offense really (other than my personal belief that Eli should be a starter somewhere). I know you loved BOLO, but nit like demski or wolitarksy are a problem. He just got caught in a deep spot. You have gone off the deep end on this issue I am sorry to say. Even I'm tired of it and I agree there are some issues, but you're building thus up to be too much.

  3. Honestly the narrative in here is pretty amusing - you think management is considering firing or even "reining in" Mike O'Shea while the team is in a period of unprecedented prosperity? When they are selling out games while the Jets' attendance is the subject of league wide consternation in the NHL? While half the teams in the CFL (at least) have sub-20000 crowds on a nightly basis? No one in the Bombers front office is even considering suggesting a change to Mike O'Shea. When the casual sports fans in Winnipeg are saying "why can't the Jets be more like the Bombers?" that means the team is doing okay. There are five Bomber fans unhappy and they are all localized within this forum. O'Shea will do exactly as he pleases, as long as he wants.

  4. I dunno, I largely agree that there are some roster management issues that the team falls into, I also think that the constant harping on it is getting to be a bit much. I mean we haven't even seen any cuts yet! It's a new year, let's wait until **** actually happens to get all angsty about it.

  6. People fail to realize that when this regime started...it was a mess...and Miller grabbed the whole pile of steaming crap by the collar..and said from this moment on this is what we are gonna be...this is how we are going to do things..and this is what we will be about....MOS came into his interview and was sure asked his philosophy etc...but was also asked can you do what we are wanting...same with Walter's....and they liked what they saw and decided to give a young guy his chance...it wasn't the other way around...and truth be told I'd be more worried if Miller and Walter's were to walk away than Osh...we'd be just fine with a new coach as this regime wouldn't insert a buffoon...this highly respected coach had one foot out of door...and likely would have been gone if not for upper management suggesting to him to make a few changes before our run..which he smartly did but took long enough doing it..this turn around was a team effort...but it started at the top and was filtered down...it's comical to think many think it was a bottom up thing...but understandable when very few here have ever been in the room and or had dealings with management and how teams...successful teams where people have to answer to someone operate...just look at what happens when they don't...Hi there Chris Jones for example...I shudder to think if Osh was given 100 percent control of everything.

  8. Oh for Christ's sake.. the last time there was an open spot at receiver we wound up with Dalton schoen... I think they've earned a little bit of trust on this particular issue.

  9. I’m just going to say that I generally appreciate everyone’s perspectives and always encourage good back and forth. That said, I’m going to ask we keep the discussion on football and not each other. It does nothing to further the conversation. Pruned a few posts.

  11. Rookies for the most part aren't ready to push out a vet by the end of camp and we don't dress shlub starters at any position. A rookie would have to be a game breaker to push out a vet on our team while they are still at the beginning of the learning curve. Very few rookies league wide show that ability year one.

  12. Yes and no. Tait said they were planning on moving to younger Canadian d-linemen (Corney & Ekakitie). It sounds like he was their plan B though since they'd been in constant communication with him throughout FA. Good plan because Ekakitie was a bust and got cut a week late while Corney played 3 games, got hurt & retired - Plan A was a complete fail.

  14. My two cents... First year guys that show very well get PR/active roster rotation and grow and learn the CFL nuances and build chemistry etc. Second year guys that put in the time, looked really good over year one, got their feet wet and maybe had some active game day rotation and proved they have some chemistry, and picked up some nuances can push for active roster and playing time or if needs are made available starting spots Of course, there are some exceptions to this, but using this framework, who do people on here think are holdovers from last year that will push for starting or more active roles, and who do we think will be the "first year" guys we look to groom for 2025? Rarely does this team start raw rookies, so realistically even though as Booch has pointed out some do have better physical attributes and upside, let's look realistically within the framework of what we tend to do and look at year two or three guys to be excited to see get more play time and let's look at some of the guys Booch and others are really high on as options to make PR/active and be groomed. I for one am excited to see Fox and Habba. I think Cole could make a very good LB, and I am very excited to see if/who we may keep to back-up potential work in and groom at MLB. (Biggie is amazing...but father time never ever losses) I also question if Rosary could make JA expendable...that is my out of left field projection this TC (Rosary takes JA's roster spot)

  15. I agree. I can't think of a single instance where we cut a game breaking receiver in order to keep a shlub. If someone in camp steps up they will be kept, if they deserve touches they will get them. I get what these guys are criticizing but stuff like that is over the top.

  16. You should never be concerned about starting more Canadians. Sick of this narrative, that Americans are somehow better.

  17. Gotta think they will be making some cuts this weekend to narrow the battles down and give the guys a real shot in the 2nd preseason game. Hard to really prep guys to play a game when there's 5 full sets of guys getting reps.

They re-signed him in late May 2018 so we hadn't even had our first pre-season game yet. https://www.bluebombers.com/2018/05/23/training-camp-day-3-recap-2/ Heres the link to the article posted a few days ago by @big jay

  25. I see nothing wrong with the criticism of MOS flaws. However, I do agree that the insinuation that these are flaw fatales, or that they warrant consideration about his continued employment is farfetched. The good far outweighs the bad with MOS and that isn't even debatable. We are lucky to have him as our HC.

  32. Can never discount what a 5'8" guy did. Few his size dominated the way he did, WD7 was always open. Especially on corner routes into the endzone, essentially uncoverable. Will never forget his TD to seal the 2013 Grey Cup. As someone who is also on the smaller side, he was my idol playing high school football. Made it seem achievable to keep playing.

  34. I expect roster controversy to remain a hot topic here for a while. MOS builds his roster to reinforce the culture, and doesn't have the luxury of black and white thinking like a fan does.

  35. Same. Soo much room for innovation on both sides of the ball but no one has interest in trying any thing different. Qb talent is in a serious dip, and has been for a while. But every one is still trying to get the same qb.

The Bay ticket office was called the Celebrity Box Office (CBO) & Eaton's was the Attractions Ticket Office (ATO). Usually the music promoter dealt with just one, I believe. Although with the Eagles the promoter may have dealt with both as over 50,000 people bought tickets to that concert which was unprecedented at the time. So long ago, I can't remember.

  38. Yeah, the Damien Jackson release was *big* in the front office I bet. A player under contract for next season, on a minimum salary, filling a very specific role that we had nobody else for. and they said goodbye. Pretty telling, in my opinion

  39. You'd hope that if Osh wants to start 10 Canadians on the opening day roster that both Walters & Miller would be concerned. I think what happened last year was Walters contract situation was so up in the air that he thought he wasn't coming back. So, Osh just had free reign to do what he wanted since our GM & scouting staff didn't even know where they'd be right now. This year is different. Everyone is under contract now management wise. You'd hope Osh would answer to those above him for questionable roster moves.

  40. People like to think osh runs the kingdom...he doesn't...not how sports hierarchy works...well any for that matter....he has to answer to people above him and yes...at times follow a directive and fall in line....not the other way around...to think otherwise just proves many don't have a clue He's the face of the organization so to speak ...but every face is controlled by something...

  41. I mean mbt came back, ancestral spirits and all. But yeah brown is the only blue chip in league next guy we’ve seen in a while. Last couple flopped hard. Personally, I’d go heavy sets with a really good running qb and pound with some option and simple passing package. Play some bully football. Wils and macs are smaller than ever. Athletic big tes are more available than ever and don’t have a real market value up here. Run 21 and 22 form sets and make a bunch of 200 lbs guys try to get off the blocks of 250+ lbs guys.

  42. if I was a non-Winnipeg CFL GM right now, other than a few select teams (and no if I was Sask I wouldn't be running with Trevor Harris), not sure what else I would have done if I had a shot at having Dru as my starter, rather than going with what I had last year. Maybe I'm wrong??

  43. I'm gonna just not take a stand one way or another until we have enough evidence. Other than "well he doesn't have the measurables that I want to see in a DL" we have nothing to go on. He hasn't had enough game time to judge with any certainty. He might be ****, he might be good. I'll wait and see.

  45. When the vets are underperforming, loyalty can look like cronyism from an outsiders (new players) perspective. Totally different line of work, but at my job management catered to a select few senior employees, who in turn performed and got the work done exceptionally well. The culture was very much like “FIFO” when I started there 15 years ago, morale was sky-high pretty much across the board. As physical work goes, those guys either aged out of being able to do the job well, or got entitled and unhelpful to the guys below them. Management kept catering to “their guys” without opening up the preferential treatment for anyone else coming up. Now it’s a decade later and the place is toxic as hell. To me that’s the fine line the club is walking right now and it could go either way yet. It’s the second 6 weeks of the season which will be very telling imo.

  46. It’s preseason. We like to analyze the minute aspects of the year(s) past, and talk about how we may do things differently. It’s like a game in itself, what would you do to make the team perfect? You’ve always got such a great grasp of what others should be discussing, I’m curious, what direction would you steer the conversation?
