  1. Wheatfall just made a great diving catch for a TD at practice. He looks to be Lawler's replacement in the lineup.

  2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but looking at our training camp cuts and depth chart, I don't think one vet lost a spot to another player. Not one cut and not one demoted to a backup role. That seems problematic to me. Not one person that jumped off the chart to gain a spot or a vet that declined to lose a spot (other than those not re-signed)? Not even something somewhat surprising like Eli jumping ahead of Kolankowski or Lofton losing the starting RT spot he was basically assigned when he joined our team? Augustine losing his spot to Rosery? Perhaps that will change as the season rolls along, but I don't take it as a good sign that we could have penciled in the depth chart other than which rookies grabbed the spots not contested by vets.

  3. I want to be fair with the last comment I made though: I don’t think our young players were the big problem this past week. It was definitely on the veterans.

  4. Looks like Feltmate will be in the lineup on Thursday as he getting work on special teams. It's my guess that Jones doesnt play as he's on scout teams.

  5. I can appreciate that, but until it comes in the form of competition, I don’t think it’s equal.

  6. Yeah the compete level of training camp didn't align with being prepared for Game 1. They had 96 guys on the field 6 days before Game 1. Coaching staff and management might have to check their arrogance about how prepared they are soon.

  9. The practice roster is what makes me more frustrated than anything, to be honest. The use of it is just horrendous. Historically, here have been the past couple years looking at our American PR August 2022: OL Witt, OL Lofton, K Mourtada, DL Wilcots, WR Harrison, DL Mack, DB Holm October 2022 (post expanded PR): OL Witt, OL Lofton, OL Fornadel, OL Muljo, K Mourtada, WR Harrison, WR Heiligh, DL Adams, DL Massie, DB Texada July 2023: OL Ivy, OL Richmond, DB Muhammad, DB McGhee, DL Fox, LB Cole, WR Jones, FB Jackson October 2023: OL Richmond, DL Haba, DL Garbutt, DL Fox, WR Alston, DB Lawrence, DB McGhee We’ve been carrying a ton of OL on the practice roster since 2022 and it’s netted us absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, we’ve carried literally one linebacker, zero running backs, no receivers who have amounted to anything (mostly due to not ever getting an opportunity), a kicker that was absolute trash, a fullback and usually a DB or two. Obviously these are just snapshots, but the formula isn’t working. Look at the turnover and look what it’s amounted to. This is not how we should be using this part of our roster at all.

  10. The only solace that I take from this is that it's not how you start a season but how you finish it. I'd rather us limp out of the gate and be healthy down the home stretch. The thing that concerns me is the lack of drive and hunger. It's a team that looks "fat and lazy" right now.

  11. The cracks that began showing last year, and even a bit the year before, are becoming chasms. Last year was the almost more frustrating for me, because everybody could see this year coming and we did nothing to prepare for it. Of course if we pull out of this, I knew we could do it all along!

  12. The worst players on the field were Mitchell and Ford by a long shot. Collaros does have to carry the team though. Guy like Demski makes an unforgivable and fatal mistake too.

  13. The real **** up with the backs was cutting Rosery. We could manage with him and Augustine. Guarantee if we flip to an American back (who isn't a DI) that we will have a Canadian DL on the field every single snap.

  14. Seeing what Toronto put out on the field yesterday was so frustrating. Do they have weak spots? Sure. But the young talent pool is impressive. They lost so many pieces and more just step right up - not necessarily rookies, but guys they’re recruited and developed and now asked to play bigger roles. Brinkman, Pierce, Dukes, Williams, Franklin … they do a good job of talent assessment over there for sure It’s not all on Zach though. A lot of it is, but not all of it. It’s crazy how in preseason, you were ALL OVER Booch and I for saying some negative things that ended up being entirely true but now that we’re one game in, you’ve got completely off the deep end on the other side of the argument. Our preparedness on offense left a lot to be desired. Zach wasn’t making throws, but those throws also involve rhythm, timing, understanding of blocking assignments, chemistry and a lot more. The whole offense was out of sync and Zach is a big part of that but he’s not entirely to blame.

  15. No of course not, more like in the “fall will be our season” phase. I’d rather win the cup at 10-8 than lose it at 15-3.

  16. Janarion could have been back...Remove Thomas and his salary and the portion above minimum would help off-set Grant....You could fill Thomas roster spot with a entrty level Canadian salary BOLO...was more he said eff this crap and left....sure he was due a bump but not a huge one and his standing on the sideline all gret cup with zero reps while 3 other recievers could barely run was the final straw...Woli almost left for same reason but was talked out of it.... Our PR use the last 3..4 yrs has been crap....a guy goes down...nobody was there to plug in and develop...or was developing.....we preferrred to use slugs who were already here....and not good enough to start...some whom had zero potential to ever start let alone be a viable replacement for the short term....and it just keeps going. If WJ had got knicked last season....especially when JJ was out....we would have been screwed....still are really....Garbutt is our best all around end...but he is on the shelf...and in our wise wisdom....have nobody to step in for the meantime....unless you consider guys playing out of positipn Bennett is there for the taking...serves several purposes...vet...Canadian...can be in rotation, but from what I understand...as long as we carrying Thomas there no room...forward thinking would be....who would be your better option for this yr...2025 and beyond...Thomas for limited reps...and no use on teams....and limited usefulness in those reps...and a complete non-factor for 2025...Or Bennett...very usefull for more than limited reps...can play on cover teams....is local....and has at lest 5 good to great yrs ahead of him???....I know what a smart and logical coach would do.....do any of you? And there are other instances of this...again..

  17. Ford is still starting. Augistine was getting all 1st team reps but MCI was getting some work at runningback today as well. Mitchell is still the main returner but Bonds does get some reps. Demski was a full participant.

  20. I'm not willing to point the finger at Kyle, he brought in guys .. a lot of them .. some of whom looked really good. Last week was on the coaches - full stop. They needed to make evaluations quicker, allow people realistic chances to show what they have (or not have) and then get the team ready to play week one. And I completely agree with JBR on this, cutting Rosery was a mistake (based on the way our roster is made up).

  21. Sukh Chungh on one play looked like a pylon. The Bombers at least have a semblance of an OL. That Lions group just stinks. Great to see a team "with such high expectations" according to every panelist on TSN get knocked off its pedestal. Speaking of TSN, Paul LaPolice has to be used way better than he is now on TSN. The guy is a walking football factory of knowledge & he engages with the camera so people will love him. What do the producers at TSN do? Hey, let's try him in the booth for a game. He excels. Check. Let's put him on the sidelines for a game. He excels. Check. Let's put him in a corner with but not with the other studio panelists because he shows them all up. He excels. Check. The guy needs to be TSN's main talking head as he excels at whatever he does even if it bruises a few egos in the studio. The guy is a natural. And I'll take Farhan Lalji over Kate Bierness as host anytime.

Great to see Sheed doing well. I understand why he had to go and why we couldn't keep him, but damn he'd come in handy right now with Lawler down. Also, the *other* games this weekend have no hearing to me on how I feel about the Bombers game/outcome. Whatever. Next week is another week.

  23. I can't remember when we last cut a vet that was under contract, if we do move anyone its cause we cant afford the cap hit. Every other team takes stock and decides to move on ie Calgary Titus Wall, BC Sayles, Edmonton Bailey Jones, Sask FIne. Lenius, etc. We seem to be striving to remain status quo, which only works for a short time. ( not to mention the cost of retaining vets keeps going up). I know O'Shea has a lot of loyalty to his vet players, but a good managed team has to strive for improvement.

  24. ******* Ford needs to play a lot more. I think that's the big issue for him. Too bad he punted on last season, set himself back. I wouldn't be starting him (aka giving him all the reps at a corner spot) but I'd be getting his feet wet on D.

  25. I really just wished they didn’t treat the 45 man roster and the practice roster as if they are two separate entities. The gameday depth chart should not be our week to week depth chart. We should not be using JA as anything beyond a gameday backup to Brady, if Brady can’t go one week then there should be a player on the practice roster ready to fill that role as a starter. Same with Gauthier, Ford, etc. I swear if Jake Thomas got hurt, we’d be starting Kyle Samson the next week. This is not the way the team should be operating. Our practice roster use continues to be so frustrating, we should be employing players who can develop their skills so that when they are called to play, there’s a shot you may have an immediate impact player not just some ham and egger who can do enough to get by.

  26. I'd be in the same boat if the guy wasn't fumble ******* the ball all over the field on O in both preseason games, dropping passes. Seems like an issue for him in general. Designated Americans can too. Another reason why it's nuts to not just designate someone even if you're not going to fully utilize the rule.

  27. That fumble by Demski was exasperating to watch. He had made a nice catch and had turned upfield. The first down had been secured but unfortunatel, Demski, who was in traffic, did not secure the ball. Sure fight for those extra yards but put two arms/hands on the ball and bear down. He's a straight line sort of guy anyway.

  31. Im also very concerned that the kick returner spot is going to be a revolving door of soft poo all season.

  32. Agree, but it wasnt just that they lost. It was the way they lost that has people concerned. Unprepared, disinterested, slow. Essentially looking like dogshit from top to bottom.

  34. yup...Osh being Osh....shamefull people were overly harsh on Ford...he gonna be fine.....MCI as well....he's a rookie and needs to learn a few things....but the physical skills and talents he has....you don't just find that anywhere...he as well will be fine....gotta let guys grow into things, as opposed to hanging on to guys too long...growing out of things so to speak and just keeping yourself behind in the development and transition...hence why we are where qe are in a few spots noe

  36. Yeah preseason was a giant waste of time. You gave reps to dozens of players you already knew weren't going to be on the day 1 roster. Why? Let your team play together if there's that fee spots up for grabs. I actually thought they might cut Augustine and use rosery as the back up. Guess that was just silly thinking.

  37. Unprepared and lack of execution.......a perfect formula for losing badly, last week. That game was inexcusable on all fronts, starting with the GM and HC....and moving down the line.... Excuses not allowed for this week. The deal....is just play better and pick up 2 points

  39. Nice to see Josh Johnson moived to AR....he should have been the starter over Wildon in frst game...most pro ready and polished receiver all thro camp Curious what we do at RB tho...too bad we didbt have foresight and notion to bring in multiple American backs to fill in just ib case what we have right now...BO isnt right and trotting him out there when not ready will just make this a long season for him with being knicked all yr...just another example of the griping about roster and depth...relience on the same ol same ol and poor forward thinking

So kick returners and receivers are a weak spot despite us bringing in two of the best players at those positions that the league has seen in a decade?

  41. I still believe they have the talent to compete for the west, I just think it might take the whole summer for them to get it all together.

  42. Yeah im starting to get a real bad feeling about this season. Key injuries already, still lots of question marks at important positions, and an aged QB that has so far looked like wet poop. Not a recipe for success.

  43. So, Bighill misses the preseason, gets a couple of practices in and will be ready for Thursday? This will go well, I'm certain of it. Why is MOS so committed to these Americans?

  45. Don't get me wrong, young Mr. Dukes had a great night. He spread the ball around and got everyone involved. Looks dangerous doing option-y stuff. There's maybe only 1 or 2 throws that I haven't seen him make. And he seemed to stay composed after that attempt to break a tackle that caused a BC fumble/scoop/score. 21/27 with 3 through the air and 1 on the ground is a great night for anybody, let alone a kid who looks like he should be on an clearasil advert. But Kelly is the MOP. He pushes the ball deep and accurate and has a fear-factor about him. Even if Dukes continues this form for a 9 game stint, you can't drop a star QB1 when you're trying to get back to BC in mid November. Quarterbacks get broken, and if we end up having the luxury of 2 starters on our gameday roster I can't see any decisions about that being made while the season is still going.

I'll disagree & say Stanley Bryant was the guy who started our turnaround. He could have stayed in calgary & be part of two Grey Cups while we struggled. To see a generational player like that come here was absolutely amazing. Once a player of his calibre came here then others followed. Like we evaluated returners last year? We knew in 5 minutes they all sucked.
