  1. The way they've run training camp the past 2 seasons and set up their practise roster and game day roster seem to indicate that they really don't..

  2. BC-Calgary was a fun game to watch. Players (mostly) making plays in all 3 phases. Bombers look like hot garbage compared with every other team in the league so far this season. Especially at the QB position. I hate to rag on Zach but even Jake Maier looks better than Collaros. Let's face it, Collaros has benefitted from outstanding pass pro in Winnipeg in his prior 3 full seasons with us. It would not be fair to say Zach, at age 35, is washed up. But the weaknesses that previously made him expendable in Toronto, Hamilton and Sask have been evident for awhile here and are now fully exposed. Club needs to give Strev meaningful reps soon.

  5. Games are won and lost in the trenches, it has been that way for a long time. Its a big reason why a few adds put Mtrl near the top last year, It was the reason we won our first couple Grey Cups and IMO the same reason we lost our last couple. We have had a very good O-line for many years and arguably one of the best D-lines, however for whatever reason we decided that our D-line especially could purely run off of next man up philosophy and got weaker, as it got weaker so did our dominance....coincidence??? Just look last week at the pressure and compete along the line on our defence until Habba and Fox went down. then Ott's offence changed....did they get better?? No we played with a way to thin d-line made up of rotation pieces and rookies. Some guys especially along the o-line we couldn't afford to keep and that is the nature of the beast, but what I don't like is the lack of d-lineman we roster, the illusion of an attitude that it's next man up regardless....look I don't like the guy, but if we brought in Lemon instead of Mtrl. I bet we are defending champs.. Yes we have detrimental injuries this year, but it's the lines where we are losing IMO....true Zach needs to play better, but without a run game this is Zach. Give him a solid run game and watch the o-line look better and he will also, I strongly believe that. Last week was too easy for the opposition, we had only 4 d-lineman that were outta position, tired and inexperienced...that bought Ott just that bit of an edge. Our offence had zero threat of a run game, again giving Ott defence that bit of an edge. Osh and team have taken us to four straight, so they have grace, but "next man up" is not do-able right now....we added a D-lineman, great start we should IMO keep adding. If Brady is out any longer we need to do something to address our lack of run game, JA is a great rotation piece, MCI is too raw. It's not fair to fully evaluate this o-line without establishing a run game and having a back that can block like AH did and Brady is developing into. Is all lost....no but we need players especially along the d-line, we need to roster enough to keep them fresh and we need to establish a run game.

  6. Danny Gallivan was the best hockey pbp announcer.. If Don Wittman had he been an American working on a US Network doing pro footabll, college or the Olympics then he'd be mentioned as one of the all time greats. He could do football, hockey & track & field at such a high excellence. To me, no one comes close to these two as far as sports broadcasters go in our country.

  7. Gonna be a huge crowd tonight and TSN is sure playing it up, my only question would be what musical act is the owner bringing in for the second home game.

  9. So what is it that made people doubt strevelers ability to play quarterback? Is it his NFL time?
    2 points
  10. Could give him a look. Wasn’t much of a pass rusher in his first go round here. Think we need someone who can get some pressures off the edge so we don’t have to rely on blitz.

  11. He wouldn’t be holding the ball and trying to force it down field. Bingo. Brown is generally more cerebral as a qb as well. Zach is a force it down field gun slinger. He’s more susceptible to suffering from pressure on style alone. Browns release is quicker and he’s more efficient at reading the D.

  15. Nailed it with this. We have like 10-12 gameday guys under 30 and only 1 player on the whole active roster right now under 25 (Clercius) and 1 on the 6-Game (Garbutt) That’s not sustainable in any way.

  20. Too soon to have all of this angst IMO. Changes happen in sports. I think we have top of the league talent on this team but we have to fill in the holes left by FA etc. I believe this will happen, however eventually our guys will get old. This already is starting but is not unexpected. That's why you enjoy your team when it's in the process of being very good to great. Not the same but sort of ... the 78 - 83 Edmonton Eskimo Dynasty was stopped suddenly when Moon left after the 83 season. Presto chango, an unknown guy named Matt Dunigan took over in 84 and by 86 he led them back to the Grey Cup, winning in 87. Another unknown at the time named Daman Allen added to a strong tandem on that team. Edmonton then gets Ham, Ray etc etc. ...

  21. Brady O is the straw that stirs the drink. He consistently gets us ahead of the sticks with 5+ yard carries, which allow us to do whatever we want on 2nd down. Without him, our O is severely hampered. Lawler is great, but we were a very potent offence last year even without him. Can't say that this year. Our pass pro has been spotty at best this year, yet Buck keeps calling deep shots, which turn into shots on Collaros. He won't last past labour day at this rate. Collaros hasn't been on very much at all this year. I've always said that we became a great team the day Collaros started and we'll revert to a middle of the road team when he retires. Looks like I need to add or can't do it anymore. All that being said... All is not lost. We're 0-2. BC had to put 2 starting O lineman on their 6 game this week and their OL play was poor in week 1. It's a good chance that they lose this week. Even if they win, we're only 1 game behind them. The Riders beat Edmonton. Big deal. Everyone beats Edmonton. Even if the Riders win this week, we're only 2 games behind them. We can catch up labour day/Banjo bowl. Calgary beat Hammy. Anyone have Hammy as a good to great team? Nope! Next week is a huge game. Win it and we're back in the hunt right away. Lose it and we're looking up at all the Western teams except maybe Edmonton.

  22. Ahhh that makes some sense. Kinda fishy but I don’t know that they’d get more from rose than from our film last year with the jy change. Sucks for rose. I gotta think that’s it for him now up here. You can before the cut date, after that they’d need to be bought out i think. You can keep them around and having them on the 6 game is optional. Doesn’t cost the sms but player is still paid. Really depends on if you think the player makes your roster after the injury or not. Any doubt might as well cut and let them rehab a lone. Some times, players also want to rehab at home on their own vs rehab at the facility with team staff.

He's been typecast as a runner and a bruiser. I've always thought he lacked the deep threat ability but he's also been pretty accurate and good at protecting the football. Even in his brief opportunities in the NFL he was the same guy - effective runner, accurate in the short game, and protected the ball. Ultimately he hasn't started a football game in 5 years so not many of us know what he can do today. I'm personally not close to considering pulling Collaros but Streveler is here to play quarterback so we'll probably get a look at him sooner or later.

  24. Didn't realize you could release a vet due to injury. If so, what is the plan for Noah Hallett? He missed all 2023 due to injury. Starts 2024 on the 6-game. He has dressed for a grand total of 11 games in 4 seasons as a Blue Bomber. Six tackles total or 1.5 tackles per year.

  25. He did. And he was roughed up to a great degree in his first several games. He’s been sacked in the cfl the equivalent of one good years worth of protection but with out one years worth of starts. His sacks per games with decent snaps is actually not great, because when he’s been in teams blitz like crazy. He doesn’t need to be great to be a better decision than Zach, he basically just needs to not be a bust. If his ceiling is Matt Nichols average he’d be a better pick. We have seen enough to know he can manage a game, drive the field on the last possession to win a game, beat the blitz and take what the D gives him. All things we have seen from Zach in about half a years worth of games. He can also beat teams deep and complete any pass on the field.

Probably memories of Lapo’s offence doing nothing to show case his ability when he started in 2019.

  27. You’ve clearly missed his first several appearances. Especially his first year appearances. It isn’t a small amount of playing time that can’t be used to gauge him, it got him the lead of a franchise and qb1 money.

  29. Not much would have changed even if they added Woods last game, with the injuries to Fox, Haba and Garbutt they have an unexpected crisis on their hands. Losing Jeffcoat they've made appropriate changes to the D-line for this season, can't rationally fault those choices, with injuries they're now forced to make a few more adjustments.

  30. That pick over the middle was classic Zach. He’s always thrown ones like that. The underthrow pick in the end zone against the Als he had a dlinemen right in his face. have we even seen Brown face pressure yet in his career? I don’t know how you can say this with such confidence based on such a small amount of playing time he’s had. Let’s see how he does over a full season where he certainly will face more pressure that he did against the bombers 4 remaining dlinemen

  32. not sure how this managed to jump threads… I always thought Wittman was unparalleled. The last 10 or so years of Cuthberts career I feel like he got near that territory. I can’t name another announcer on that level, not in Canada anyway. I always liked Mark Lee after those two, but not even close. TSN always had second rate announcers before Cuthbert jumped from CBC in 05 or whenever.

  40. put strev in with Collaros. First down, run the bread and butter inside zone option with an iso corner play side with dalton, strev on jet motion. 2nd down Demski at r, Motion him out, and strev in, early sweep motion for play action pump the play side then draw to strev weak side counter. 3rd down if it isn’t a goal line push, pa to Demski on jet motion starting pre Snap, then toss him a screen to the wide side. Get it out early and make a db try to keep him out. They could’ve traded Collaros for a tidy sum. No matter what happens with Zach, the only way giving up on brown works out is if brown ends up a bust. If he isn’t a bust we let him walk for a guy who is about to turn 36. The only higher failure rate than young qbs getting their first shot at starting is keeping qbs closer to 40 then 30.

  44. Love smith back hope he’s good to go. Really strange to cut him if he’s healthy already though. fayad is a strange pick. Why not rivers or even upshaw? Wasn’t fayad an early cut too? How do we not bring back rosery still lol. Yep fayad was hurt the first day of rookie camp and cut early but stayed around to rehab.

  45. If they actually let him play Quarterback, I think Streveler can get the job done. We’ve seen him play the intermediate and deep game in the past and do it well. If they pair that with a more creative running attack, I believe he can succeed. Seriously go watch his first 2 starts with the Bombers, before they gave him a gimmick. He can make the throws.

  46. Agree I’m a big fan of the 30, especially up here. You gain tremendous versatility, and way better pressure options. The D is solid. If we’d get away from Thomas and biggie it’d be sick.
