  1. I'd look at getting rid of some of our legacy contracts (Bighill, Wilson, Alexander, Thomas) and overpays like Kramdi at $139,000 before getting rid of Brady who is our best player on offense and who is great in the community.

  2. I know 1-4 has got us questioning things but man how do you live with yourself if you let a 26 year old home grown talent, 2000 all purpose yards, MOP leave to another team? Especially let’s say for example he went to B.C. our division rival.. we get to watch him for years in his prime run all over us and the CFL. I know a lot of us would be very un happy with that decision. I think because we’ve had nearly a decade of Andrew Harris and Brady Oliveria we take for granted having an outstanding running back who can get you the tough yards, take over a game, and is Canadian to boot. Look at B.C. they’ve been knocking at the door but the lack of a punishing runner when it gets cold has potentially cost them a trip to the grey cup in back to back years. We have many problems to worry about on this team but Brady isn’t one of them.

  3. How in the actual **** can you watch what Brady did all last season, and then what he did against Ottawa last week, and say "ehhh he's not that important..." ?? I get that it's a big contract but he was our entire offense last year, and last week, finally somewhat healthy, proved he can still be.

  4. 99% sure they'll bring Lucky Ogbevoen onto the roster at DE for this week. See what he can do and bridge to Garbutt's return next week.

  5. Dragging this alllllllllll the way back after that unfortunate detour... The thing about Demski is that his value is in a jack of all trades master of none kind of way. Super versatile and can be a weapon in a lot of different ways but he's not the guy you build everything around. He's a complimentary piece. Will you find another guy like Demski? Not likely but you can find comparable producers pretty readily. Oliveira I think is a very complete back... only thing really missing is the home run ability but he does everything else so well. Could you find an American to do the job? Yeah I'd bloody well hope so but as a Canadian and local product I don't feel his salary handicaps the team. The biggest salary handicaps are the not good enough backups earning big money for years of service or the old washed up starters.

  6. I'll disagree on Demski. He's a supplementary piece not a core one. He's proven every time we've needed him to step up his role that he can't handle it. And he's on the fading end of his prime. Falling in love with those guys leads you down the path to hell in a league with a salary limit. The whole point of building Canadian depth is laughing at Saskatchewan and Ottawa for paying those guys. Oliviera could touch the ball 300 times along with being a massive piece in terms of pass protection when he doesn't get the ball. And he's in his prime right now. You'd be hard pressed to plop a random American RB in there and get the same production. There's a decade of being in that wasteland between Roberts and Harris in the recent history of this club. Yeah Fred Reid was ok for a couple years, not spectacular. If you swapped out Demski for Bailey or Dunbar at half the price you wouldn't even notice around the corps led by Lawler and Schoen.

  7. Id rather have Brady at what we are paying him then Ouellette at what he's getting paid. For our style of offence Brady is the exact kind of back we need. Its no surprise that the first time we really got him going this season was the first game we won. Beyond his abilities, his passport, and marketing benefits he's also a leader on the field and helps to establish a certain attitude and way of playing that helps us to win games. There are some other runningbacks in the league that are decent but nobody quite like BO IMO and there's no guarantee we're going to be able recruit anybody on his level when you look at the whole package he brings to the table. Right now I view him as the one player next to maybe Zack who's play can single handedly turn this season around. And Zach probably needs Brady Ball to be firing on all cylinders in order to be successful under these conditions.

  8. If you're talking about signing two guys to replace Brady. You're not saving that much. On top of that you'll see production drop unless you find a gem of an American. Which sounds easy, but there are 8 other teams and maybe 1 is at Bradys level right now. Either way, replacing a home town star is not the 1st place I'd look by a long shot. Qb, Wr, DL, LB and secondary all have contracts that aren't paying off.

  9. Kelly took to social media continuing to be a dickhead after his suspension complaining about his salary when WNBA's Caitlin Clark's salary of half a million dollars this season was revealed. There wasn't a lot of remorse for what he did. The guy deserves everything he gets.

  10. or have another one at the ready??....like wtf guys They will just wear Adams out off the edge to minimize his effectiveness inside....typical...Could of easily dumped McGhee off the PR to accomodate a body...tell him to stick around town as yhou still have Bridges there anyway....pretty sure nobody will scoop him up and start him...typical poor roster management in full bore

  11. He practiced in full all week but was ruled out for the game .. hopefully it's just a situation of him not being ready yet but it does beg the question, why release Fayad if Garbutt wasn't good to go? (Truthfully I'm not upset by the release of Fayad, his play was very uneven and he lacked a bit of physicality. Outside that first game, he didn't make much of an impact)

  14. we dont even need to flip the ratio tho....W e can function just fine with an import RB and 5 canadians on offense (3 ol and 2 Rec) and 2 on defense...so this ratio flip is moot...We choose to maintain it as Canadian...And paying BO what he wants which to me is an overpay...and carry a serviceable RB to back him up in Auggie costs us around 350k of cap space. Really if we declare a 5 and 2 designation for where we use our Canadians, we can easily back BO up with Smith...or any other American back we roster as an in game replacement, and a multi game replacement The fact we allocate about 1 million in cap space to ZC..BO and JA is bad salary management in my opinion. Rosary could have filled JA role for just over half the price, and offer more in the passing game...and getting a back like the one in Ottawa ...or a Carey type...Mills....Pre-injury Standback is not a hard task as there are literal 100's to choose from in the States...so entry level deal there for a bruiser with more athleticism could of easily off-set some of that albatross of a contract that ZC has us over the barrel with now. Same with the dumb money paid to Kramdi for basically average at best production...and still after 3 yrs brain fart after brain fart...And again...a Canadian isnt really needed there either....another example of poor allocation of sms for production you get....toss in Biggie and Ba's money and you see why right now we appear to be in a bit of cap hell This also leads right back to clinging to guys....over valuing tenured vets, and not having the foresight or the willingness to look forward..transition, and continually get better...we been to content at looking back and being content on past success and showing loyalty to players past their usefulness In the last 3 yrs...where have we actually gotten better or restocked the cupboard with top line talent...with big upside? I will say Adams/Woods/Fox/Garbutt....then again if Walker wasnt looking for bigger money he would have basically be pencilled in the lineup...and Bennett not being hurt or whatever the issue is there...he would have been seeing likely Jake Thomas reps too So Likely 2 of the 4 mentioned wouldnt have been kept, and Hubert probably would not have gotten on the roster to develop and show potential (he has done more in 3 games than Bennett did all yr) We'd be watching heavy doses of WJ...having to work with Thomas...and Walker eating most the reps...and not sure who off the edge to compliment WJ but an insane amount of Bennet spelling off whoever it was...There would have been no need in Osh eyes to keep any of the best interior guys we have had out this yr because ...heck we have returnees Walker..Thomas..Schmeck..Bennett...so we good and solid...and just the thought of that scenario is enough to make u wanna puke

  16. He beat biggie in the hole like 5 or 6 times too, 3 with the same spin. Trucked him a couple times as well. Age is undefeated. Last year was the end of biggies serviceability. He’s got no place on the field now.

showing yhour inept ability to have any sense...Linebackers are never referred to as "Bell Cow" Nuff said and every Linebacker you described...came into the league at exactly that...an entry level contract as a rookie...again...cementing your total lack of any football or CFL related intelligence

  18. I am not a fan of Bailey. But I'd rather have him in that 3-4 slot with Wolitarsky (hell even someone like Lucky Whitehead), just guys who play their role, can get a first down, Bailey even worked that jet sweep as much as anyone the past couple years, and be able to bring in a decent CFL prime rush end or DB/SAM and let Demski walk. Problem is they signed the receivers all out of order. Demski then Lawler then Schoen came up this February obviously. In terms of importance to the offense you could reverse them. It's painful watching an offense where Demski is one of the top 2 targets. Something that's got us moving with Streveler is Demski taking a bit of a backseat and just being a move the chains guy more than someone we're forcing vertical shots at. Who was our RB from 2012-2015? It's not as easy as that. Ottawa themselves have hardly had impactful running backs going on years. Sask, BC have struggled for years to find anyone who is more than filler. Yeah you can always plug guys in, not necessarily going to be someone who helps you win rather than just be a placeholder.

  21. This is a smoking hot wrong take... we start so many Canadians because they build the roster poorly and the PR even worse full stop.

  22. Yeah no need to flip another spot if they went American at RB. Bringing back JA was a mistake IMO. Along with a few others that have been discussed.

When ZC came here in 2019, we had a smash mouth OL and one of the best ever pass pro / outlet RBs. It was literally as good as you could get it. But with a few tweaks in the interior and perhaps more use of a 6th OL, they are still serviceable and this O could still do well.

  26. Thing is we don't need to play the way we did with Strev as only way to win. We need to have Buck tailor the scheme to him and let him grow as a passer...dude can pass, and would have had better numbers last game if not for some brain farts by 3 raw receievers, as well as some penalties negating s few plays. There not a lot of QB's up here who thrive as a pocket passer....not even ZC now...as when any pressure...or threat of it happens...he basically screwed now. There are lots of guys tho who would...and do thrive with moving launch point..roll outs and sprints....and Strev would most certainly thrive with that....especially when you have him roll out to the edge,,,It will become a pick your poison scenario then and defense's will get gouged. It's all in Buck and Osh's hands on how to morph things, and allow us to be sucessful, and that means with the right personell. This style of offense also makes a weaker line look way better...much like teams that used to use the veer....was a ways to odff-set a poor line...we dont have a poor line, but with a system where you wanna move the pocket and launch points and have oline guys sliding and switching blocks....You definately need to pooch Kolo right outta there....he can't as it is pick up moving parts and any defender that causes him to have to make a decision, or realize when to dis-engage off a tandem block he's so useless...will say it agin that center is a spot that is really hampering the line in general, and why Osh cant drop this loyalty to certain guys isn't helping Lawler I expect back within 3 weeks max...and with him and Lucky added to things...and some scheming to focus on what we have and what we can be succesful with...I can see a major turn around...now the fly in the ointment is how long do we keep expecting ZC to turn it around?....If he looks much the same again this week...and we look just useless on offence....they need to sit him down...plain and simple. Even if he does look half way decent, we still need to do a lot of Strev series...that he isn't just a gimmick...but running an offence tailored to what he can do...and the issues he can cause

  27. This. I’ve been beating that drum since free agency. Don’t get me wrong, I love Brady and have always believed we need to do more to sign and retain local talent (it helps create connections to the team) but spending what we do, at that position, it doesn’t make sense. I’m not saying we don’t have few other “legacy contracts” that hamper us from a cap perspective but blowing your wad on a running back isn’t the best use of cap space.

  29. Like seriously I watched the calgary game again... Johnson ****** him over 3 separate times on passes. 2 he over ran the zone, if he had say down easy completions and another the ball hit him in the face. But shitty passing and reading a D right? Our rookie receivers are not getting the job done.

  31. The designed qb runs should be based around making big plays not grinding out 5. The threat of him on a naked bootleg or option motion after handing off takes a guy out of the run stop and opens a lot up. When he throws on the roll defenders freeze up soo bad. If we ran offences like what we saw and see used with Fajardo and sprinkled in some qb runs it could turn our entire year around.

  35. So people are complaining about Brady making $235,000 when he was MOC and should have been MOP last season but Demski makes $225,000 and is our third wr and not a peep? *For the record, I like Demski and Brady and think its other areas that are poor salary amangement.*

  37. I love Brady, and what he does in terms of marketing and off the field stuff. I’d hate to lose him. But it you are comparing a defensive player of the year type to a rb in terms of money, I’ll take the defensive guy every day. I’d a sat down with Brady and been 100% with him. I’d give him all the off cap money possible like the appearance thing n junk, but I wouldn’t pay that much for a rb. Part of the problem is the amount we are paying the combination of Brady, Augustine, mci and feltmate is insane. Not to mention 4 roster spots. Especially when our di kr is a natural rb. If mci isn’t ready to be a fb/back up runner Ned contribute on kick cover keep him on the pr, let woli and clercius fill the role. We could’ve kept rosery, used clercius in blocking situations and gone di kr/rb for the back up rb and saved probably 85% of Brady’s salary. Especially with us carrying 7 ol.

  38. If I was GM, I'd have let Brady walk & sign two capable American backs. One as a starter & another as a backup. The money saved may have given us a little flexibility on the salary cap. We may have been able to sign a FA Offensive or Defensive Lineman.

  39. Streveler made more nice throws in his first 2 starts as a Bomber than Jamarcus Russell made in his whole career. His second pro game for example 22/28-256-3-0

  40. That play immediately comes to mind when I see him turtling in a collapsed pocket and wonder how he went from that to what we have now. I realize it's been close to 5 years (a long time at this stage of his career) but he has none of that ability anymore.

  41. I keep going back to the first time I saw Strev play live in person in his first season. When Nichols was completely washed up and couldn't do anything outside of a 5 yard dunk pass. It was 100% clear Nichols was shot and the O was lethargic and was so easy to gameplan against. Strev comes in and plays as a QB who scrambled and occasionally ran for a first down. His weird throwing motion (almost like he was flicking a dart) was surprisingly effective since it released the ball quickly and what he did that Matt didn't was make quick decisions, tossed the ball to receivers who were 10+ yards down field and let them make a play. Guys like Darvin and Wolitarsky who were seeing nothing suddenly became part of the game which opened things up. The next season when LaPo was trying to me smart and would run ridiculous flea flicker qb cartwheel cannon ball end around dispy doo plays that would end up hurting Strev and completely neutered him as a QB. We need Strev to play as a QB, the battering ram QB shtick wont last. Last week when Strev rolled out and dumped it off to Brady it absolutely froze Ottawa and those plays are what I think we need to use Strevs legs for.

His play has been eroding the last 2 yrs now, and injuries accumulating and lingering....time to make those tough decisions
