  3. Keys to the game: a productive run game. We struggled to run vs cal in our first match up and pre season. Need a good dose of bully ball today. limit the penalties. We aren’t producing the yards to make up for all we are losing. Discipline will be huge today. Qb. Need to be reasonably quick to pull zach if he isn’t moving the offence, and buck needs to call a competent game.

  4. So i keep thinking back to this interview Walters gave a couple years ago. About succession planning. He said something along the lines of "you can't replace everyone all at once, so you have to do it carefully... A couple pieces at a time..." Yada yada etc. So I keep thinking they were trying this and really ****** up ... Or Osh ****** up the plan by overruling. But I remember specifically that Walters had at least some kind of plan for succession of players....

  5. To be fair Smith has looked dangerous at returner too. Not as explosive as Grant was but he's gonna bust some sooner or later. He's been close a few times.

  6. Just saying, they won last week so @voodoochylde should probably start the GDT

  7. Remember when in back to back weeks we had Lucky and Janarion racking up return yards as brand new players to the team? 2019 was insane. I like Smith... There's potential there.

The reason we let Grant go is because he couldn't stay healthy for us not because of his talent and or price. If we kept him and he got hurt again same bitchin would be going on about why we kept him....

  10. But then we could only start 23 Canadians!

  11. The only full series Jefferson has missed was Calgary's 1-play drive that ended with Ford's interception. They may have been planning to sit him for a late Ottawa drive. But then Bonds got hurt and Jefferson came back in for the next play. I have him missing 9 defensive snaps through 5 games. For Thomas, he sat out 16 snaps in the first game (they were running a bunch of 3 LB package with Cole/Karamoko). And 19 total in the four games since then.

  12. With the heat today, if the offense can't get on track early the defense (especially the line) is going to be in TOUGH. I also kind of view this as a bit of gut-check game for both Zach and Buck .. collectively our offense has been abysmal but the game plan runs through the quarterback and neither our OC nor our QB have been particularly effective so far this year.

  13. You just know Collaros is going deep on the first play from scrimmage.

  14. Good time for our O to break out and lay out 30, 40+. That may help. 🙂

  15. Watching Janarion Grant as an Argo.... what an absolutely STUPID decision it was to not sign him.

  16. What is the real NUB of the problem this year? Does it go back to January? I am a student of leadership and I just wanted to say what I am feeling. Great leaders are best because they call upon the talents of the people around them. They are not impressed with their own skills. In fact, the moment you start reading your own press clippings you are in trouble. We have run into a one-man rule situation with our top dog, Michael O'Shea. When he starts to think his judgement is better than everyone around him, we start to see major mistakes made. One-man rule is dominated by ego and all its foibles. It also takes away the power of the best people on the team. I am sure our coordinators and our positional coaches are suffering from a high-level of frustration. Back at the start of this calendar year we decided that we didn't need Grant, Bailey & Hanson. Grant has been a difference maker as long as he has been here. Somebody decided he was injury prone because we used him to run him up the gut on too many running plays. Watching the game between the Als & Argos, we saw Grant to be their key in the victory. Grant supplies constantly better field position; plus his big plays completely turn games around as it did Thursday. But we decided we didn't want him at his premium price (perhaps $135 K). Bailey has been our best blocking receiver for years, greatly contributing to our running game and protection schemes. Hiss absence is one of the biggest reasons our blocking looks so questionable. He is Toronto's leading receiver this year. We refused to even make an offer to him. What if he was on our club this year? Last year we signed him as an afterthought. Who was the mastermind on this decision? Hanson looked fantastic on special teams as he always does. To what lengths did we go to re-sign him. Did we think promoting Miller to special teams coordinator would be enough without the appropriate personnel? So Grant Bailey and Hanson were our gift to Toronto. One-man rule apparently Dictates on the Bombers. I get a little nauseated as I think about it. Cal Murphy hated rookies too but at least he managed to pick up a lot of good veterans from other teams, as I recall. Press clippings are an enemy. Lowliness brings everyone's talent into play. It also overwrites judgement so that newcomers have a chance to outshine the veterans. I was very impressed with the people we brought in to Camp. Now I'm wondering where they all went. I am glad we brought Lucky back but it smacks of desperation. Good thing our defence seems to be clicking but it could be dominant, IF, our personnel judgement was a little better.

  17. followup on this: Dru Brown cleared to play this weekend per https://www.cfl.ca/2024/07/07/cfl-injury-reports-week-6/ Super happy to see this. I will always root for promising QBs who are establishing themselves in the CFL -- this league gets stinky fast when it trots out bad / underqualified quarterbacks.

  18. This is really all it comes down to. He needs to be willing to make those prick decisions and say "this position isn't getting it done, next man up"

  19. First thing Osh needs to do is lose that stupid smug grin on the sidelines...and at times that lost look. He needs to coach...get in guys faces and like he loves so much about one his boi'S...be a prick He was a total one as a player so it's in him. But be an effin coach and make some bloody football coaching decisions...not personal preference decisions

  20. if ZC is still sucking the major anus again....he should get to mid point of quarter 2 to correct things...or be yanked...and Osh better not be worried about butt hurt feelings...and his "belief" that ZC is the best QB in the league...cause he is not...and he now doesn't posses the full skill set he did to work thru rough patches...or in a game where the O-line is struggling And he definitely not the QB yhou want in there with 3 rookie receivers as he will just ignore them and force things to exactly where the other team expects him to, and suckers him into doing

  27. It wasn’t putrid. We always had the best running game, and a Nichols had a couple of good seasons like throwing for 4400 yards with 28 TD’s and 8 INT in 2017. If Nichols didn’t hurt his shoulder he would be looked at in a different light. Man I’m just hoping for some vintage Collaros tonight. Calgary’s D is there for the pickings, I’m hoping we can establish some sort of passing game it’s been ugly.

  28. The game we almost won & the game we did win were because of Strev, not Collaros.

  29. All things considered with injuries...poor roster usage...after Mtl loss last night we basically have given up least points per game now....keep it to under 23 tonight and we will be the number one defense in points allowed. Factor in at some point we will get Garbutt...Fox...Parker....Possibly Lawson all back....Ford more experience...Same with Bonds tho he is already lights out and also soon to be 28...so he knows whats going on.....and if Osh pulls face outta his own sphincter and actually rosters WJ/Garbutt/Woods/Adams/FOx/Lawson/Hubert in some fashion....drop some dead wood (Thomas) relegate others tomback-up/role players (Biggie/BA) and forget about this Kramdi fascination...we have the makings of a very good defense.

  30. Griffen would offer way more than Kramitupyourkramhole at SAM....But I also think the best option would be Cole at SAM...Griffen for Holmboy and Holmboy at safety....that would give us more physicality and tackling ability closer to the line...and I would bet Holm would become a pickin' machine at free safety. Be nice to know whats up with Parker tho and if he will be back....as he was our best tackling DB last yr...and would be a nice addition to the secondary at HB....with Holmboy at safety

  31. hard not to argue...They beat the Elks..Well the Elks in Elks fashion handed that to them...2 win against Ham...and those were not dominant wins by any stretch, and the T.O win again was a game handed to them. Hardly a juggernaut Now they have some injuries...and face B.C...mtl...Hopefully a resurrected us...and Edm again...who I bet will beat them....that snappy start will be in rear view..

  32. Even with Trevor Harris, it was never their offence that worried me against us.
    3 points
  33. As other have mentioned, that is a thin D-line.....If I'm Calgary I'm attacking the right early and often until/if the Bombers show they can stop it..... The game will literally go through Zach....we should know pretty quickly if he is "back" or not.....If he looks like he did in the first few games it's over as he doesn't present the escapability threat....but if he comes back and plays P'OD and on point, and is able to push the ball, we should prevail

  36. On the snaps when it’s Willie/Adams/Woods/Hubert it’s not terrible. Even Woods and Adams on at the same time can make up for some of Thomas’ decrepitude. If anyone gets hurt or gassed out it’s more or less game though. Overall, pretty big fuckup to get that bad of a depth situation Would this not have been a perfect game for them to dress Samson?

  39. It was the Coatney spear that knocked Zach out of the first game against Calgary so I hope the boys remember that and bring a bit of nasty to their play.

  40. Chasing the Stamps but it’s going to be tough with the OL and DL being fielded…. Kola and Dobson better have their sh!t together or Coatney and his 8 other fellow dl are going to kill Zach.

  41. Parker is still here, just hurt so we haven't really lost him. You could say Bond replaced Houston since he's covering the side of the field that Demerio did. The side that Parker was playing was a bit of a revolving door last year (Parker, Rose, Lawrence, Daramy-Swaray). Ford has locked up that spot so there's an upgrade even though it wasn't from scouting.

  42. Grant came back from high ankle injury last season a few weeks too early. So it looked like he had lost a step - had trouble making all the cuts. But the whole return team sucked as well. I like that Argos have tried to work him into the offence from time to time. He wanted that in Winnipeg but the O is much less creative than Dinwiddie's schemes. Bombers had Grant running up the gut in traffic - that's how he got hurt. So dumb.
