  1. I think that's why, in part, some get so riled up over what would seemingly be trivial decisions (who is and isn't on the roster, who is and isn't listed as a starter) .. when you are a veteran team and your window to compete for championships is closing, those are the things that can make or break your season.

  2. Its hilarious that we beat on Rourke so bad that we made him apologize to an entire province.

  3. Chris Walby's broken crooked fingers wrapped around the CBC microphone while he mused about the 'Hogs' was classic.

  4. He hasn't been there long enough for me to hate him as a pbp announcer. The problem is teaming him with Glen Suitor. He's always been the problem no matter who he's teamed with.

  5. https://3downnation.com/2024/08/20/saskatchewan-roughriders-qb-trevor-harris-named-cfls-top-performer-for-week-11-by-pff/ “The Bombers’ offensive line led the charge as the highest-graded unit this past week with a group score of 70.7. The best individual grade on the line belonged to left tackle Stanley Bryant who finished with a 70.7 score. He was followed by Canadian left guard Liam Dobson (63.7), then American right tackle Eric Lofton (63.3).“ Another suspicious pff grading. Our ok certainly played much better again vs bc, but big Stan had his roughest game in a while. Lofton out played him with ease. Randolph out played him as well.

  6. I think Rouke will be a good QB (especially with the state of QBing in the CFL) but it remains to be seen whether he can be elite. He had a real hot 9 games in 2022. That's it

  7. The **** are you talking about? They had like 5 games in 2006 with Mike Toth, Marty York and Adrion Smith. It was awful.

  8. What a weird season for parity in the West. As bad as the Bombers were for most of the first half (and as mediocre as the offense still is), they probably should have won the Ottawa (weather delay) and Toronto (refs) games, and could have won the BC and Calgary games. Realistically we should be 6-4 and almost could have been home and free at 8-2 without playing anywhere near our best football. The margins are thin as hell this year.

  9. Rourke is kind of robotic though. He’s going to have to come up with a 2.0 version of his game because if you move him off the first read mostly by not giving him a true read pre-snap he’s done.

  10. CBC did the best job of making the game itself seem like a big deal.

  12. I’d agree that most of the broadcast content is better now across the board. But back then it was also worse across the board for most sports. Tsns primary form of improvement has been through having a new generation of people in front of the camera. I think people have forgotten how bad the old broadcasts used to be. I mean camera work is still bad, but it was horrid back in the day. I vaguely remember them being kind of nooby, but it was honest atleast. I face palm at cjob now a couple times a game tbh. It’s hard to live up to bob. Loved those days. CBC really had tremendous on air talent for the cfl.

  13. well...that was 3 yrs ago...he has to re-establish all that again....I dont care how you perceive me or things I say either btw...We have seen many a QB light it up...only to fade away into pedestrian...some obscurity Never said he wasnt going to be good either....just not this great QB ...Generational one...he had a lot going on for him that helped early on in 2022 I also dont buy this "rusty" crap...the dude has been training...practicing and in camps for 2 yrs now....South of the border where the training and coaching is better....injury free...not like he was on his couch for 2+ yrs...sure floating a guy in with 1 week of prep isn't Ideal....but he also landed in a system that for most part is the exact same as when he left....except he has a legit run threat/game now....so the "learning curve" was minimal at most And like mentioned before....Masoli was out 2 yrs...injured and rehabbing so not even able to practice and get rep after rep...He looked a hell of a lot better Than Kid Canada....explain that wise one? nd how is credibility lost saying a guy has to prove it over a course of a yr...or more to establish his spot as legit?...that goes for any player.....and also never said I was an expert....just offering opinion....insight and some insider info from playing in the game...coaching and training now for better part of 30+ yrs

  15. Pretty sad for such an important partner to the cfl. But I mean the cfl can’t be assed to take care of their own stats. It’s the laziest era for the cfl I can recall. Sportsnet had really good quality when they had the cfl in the past. It would be heavily dependant on politics, but the best partner for the cfl is the cbc imo. I don’t think they pay like they used to in the Olympics era, but if we could get decent dollars I think the volume of watchers they could bring as well as scheduling flexibility would be huge.

  16. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this or commented on it, but TSN hasn't updated their CFL standings page. According to them the Bombers are sitting at 3 wins. I know it really isn't all that important but it really pisses me off that they pay so little attention to one of the few sports they have exclusive rights to. In my opinion their attitude towards the CFL is a contributing factor towards the ridiculous attendance at Argo games . I long for the day when the CFL ditches the Toronto Sports Network.

  17. It's ridiculous how good that group has become. They're on returners like a fat kid on a smartie. If we had a punter could boom the occasional kick teams would be a huge strength.

  18. Rewatched the weekend game a bit...Randolph is good...has really good footwork and is so mobile...and man he has some serious good hand work...dude had been coached up very well prior to getting here...him and Lofton play off each other so good..like they been teammates for yrs..they only gone mesh even better...that side of the line now is legit top tier

  20. Walby would be wise to purchase a pair of those skechers....you just slip your foot into them and away you go....Now size could be a problem and he'd most likely have to have them custom made for those boats I thought Rod retired after his admission to the figure skating hall of fame...??

  21. Oh for sure from a serious point of view (assisted living etc) but every time my not so serious mind hears velco shoes it also goes to crocs and flip flops and how some might want to rethink how and what they are wearing them with. 🙂

  27. The "real" Rourke in 2022 was 0-3 against us with some very pedestrian stats (43 of 73 or 59% with 4 TD's and 4 INT's). Until he proves he can beat us, rust is just an easy out.

  28. Oilers decline to match the offer for Broberg and Holloway. Thought they would have matched at least one of them after trading Ceci yesterday. That trade gave them the cap space (assuming they put Kane on LTIR) to match both. Maybe they want that money to extend Leon?

  29. This is a common problem in all CFL cities. Softball, no questions to piss off the HC or GM. Teams control the message now. It used to be the media.

  30. Printers was deep ball or nothing. Rourke will figure it out and do well.

  31. Didn't Printers have gaudy numbers and then never came close to playing at the same level again? Maybe Rourke does the same?

  32. Did O'Mahony even play a real game for us? His two stints here were memorable but for the wrong reasons. In 2006, he didn't show up to camp and his wife had to file a missing persons report before he eventually turned up. He was released so he could focus on his issues. We re-signed him in 2008 but he stubbed his toe while taking a leak the night before the first game of the season. I don't remember him ever actually getting in a game except pre-season (where he was admittedly overweight and out of shape).

  34. Yep. The 21 D was lights out in the 4th in a freakish way, but this squad is playing a whole game with soo many more minutes on the field. JY is really flourishing, I’m sure having hall still here to support him is a huge help in how fast he’s adapted his vision and implemented it. With a green secondary no less. they don’t have an award for CO of the year, but right now imo it’d come down to Jy and Ac. At this rate ac might pass buck for the next hc job

  35. The big difference is our kick cover has been exceptional this year, they are not only making up for shankahan getting us a net 15-20 punt on average almost twice per game, they could generate more field position with deeper kicks. If Toronto kicked 10 yards deeper on punts it’d just be 10 more punt return yards. If we kicked it 10 deeper on punts we’d get probably 7-8 more yards net. The proof is in the kick offs. The last month when Sergio has been averaging 70, we’ve been getting down field a making the extra yards count. In bc Sergio averaged 73 yards per kick off, terry Williams who isn’t a bad returner, averaged just 22 per kick return. He had a long of 27 on a freakin 80 yard kick off. Williams is averaging almost 24 yards per ko return this year too. So we kicked it deeper and still held him short of his average. Kick off cover is a bit easier than punt cover, but still these guys can get down field and make plays. Ayers is an old school pyramid busting kind of guy, he blows guys up who try to block him down field.

  36. Net punting is fine...but when other guys are driving the ball 15 to 20 yds further down the field and have a similar net punt...we still at a deficit...if we need him to boom a punt to kick us out of trouble...he can't unless one his line drive sqwuibs gets a lucky bounce or the returner botched it More times than not it's an illegal kick...or the returner had already tore up the field for 15 and is in full gallop before anyone is even close...last yr was really bad...this yr our coverage has been lights out and making up for that...which is a bonus...Miller has them right dialed in

  42. There’s a very real possibility that Rourke was a flash in the pan a few years ago and will never put up those numbers again. CFL has seen its fair share of QBs who look like they could be a big deal and then they are figured out and fizzle away. With all the hype he’s getting, I think it’s very possible he never lives up to it. Honestly when you got a guy saying he’s a top 20 QB in the world, you are setting him up to fail. Cuz he’s not a top 20 QB. He’s a top 41 QB in the world and not even the best QB currently in the cfl. If he’s top 20 then what the heck is Streveler cuz he actually dressed games in the nfl. I mean Chad Kelly and Streveler both dressed for nfl games. Are they top 20?
    1 point
  43. That about sums it up. He’s young enough that he could take another 5 years to mature and still do very well.

  44. did he no also lose to the other team that was above and beyond the pack that yr too?...I'm not sold on him as this great QB hope until he strings together game after game.....for a solid yr....he also was left in in some games thatyr to pad his stats too...and all they did was pass pass pass....so undoubtably he will have nice bloated numbers
