  1. I'd like to give some love to Matt Dunnigan as well. When he's on, he helps me get into the game. He has opened up about how concussions has impacted him and his family but it seems he truly just loves the game of football and it shows most times when he's on air, alcohol jokes aside.

  2. You know it’s funny, I kind of feel bad for Rourke. He seems like a good kid with a good head on his shoulders. He’s got incredible arm talent and dynamic running ability. He got rushed up with hype before he should’ve, gotta get past the sophomore bumps as a starter before mop talks and mega pay days. It’s not his fault, but here he is. This league needs QBs, and stars and Canadian stars. I want us to beat him like every one else in the league. But I really want us to shut up the natl media clowns.

  4. I'd like to see Lapo stay in the booth. He actually has football insights and breaks down plays. More substance than the fluff than you tend to see with the other color guys. He will only get better with practice. I don't think he is "super" comfortable in the role yet, but given time to settle in and find his pacing, I think he can be their best color commentator.

  5. I love what lapo brings to the booth, he’s a bit more loquacious than ford, who is also really enjoyable. Either of those combos and I un mute the tv turn off cjob. I’d be down for a show recounting the week with Ford, Paul and Dunk. Dream would be to have Sara orlesky host.

  6. I get it you don't like Rourke because he's been anointed by the media but this is crazy. By your standards Brady isn't a true Canadian. Doug Brown isn't. Enough with the true Canadian bullshit.

  9. TSN is doing pretty darn good with color guys right now. Lapo, Matty, and Forde all bring good stuff to the table. I don't mind Suitor all that much, I think a lot of the criticisms of him are overblown, but he rarely says anything interesting nowadays and he really sells out for the game narrative, which is annoying. I like the dynamic when they pair up a straight man with a goofball -- Rod Smith and Matty is a good one, or Neilson with Forde. I think Dustin could turn it down from 11 to about 8 or so, but occasionally an utterly ridiculous CFL game will need an utterly ridiculous call, and he's the man for that job. It's a waste IMO to put Lapo on the sideline. Dude needs to be on the panel or in the booth where he can be the professor, not the guy who's doing the fluffy thirty second spots from the sidelines.

  12. Probably. Would love see what Ayers can do on D. He's been dynamite on teams. No mention of Brady or Demski on the injury report so that's positive.

  13. He has an infectious enthusiasm that comes from a deep passion for the sport and the league. I love it, though he does need to be managed by a color guy or host he gets a bit crazy and yeah the punch drunk thing is real. They usually put real media types like John liu (who is awesome) on the sideline. But I’d love to see a football guy in that spot giving more in depth updates on the game. Matty could let loose with his energy and not be over extended.

  14. they are a good combo I agree Lapo as well workin with Ferguson is good....Also would be ideal for Neilson to keep him more focused on the football aspect....sure he can have his enthusiasm and goofy mannerisms...I don't really mind it....but if he with The Gargler Suitor...stuff just goes off the rails with nonsense and stupidity As much as Rod Black got jabbed here...I'd prefer him as well...I bet hi and Lapo would be an interesting combo....I can deal with Blacks nicknames he gives

  15. Any ki wans to play in the best lague....so no knocking him for trying....and I actually applaud him for realizing/seeing the politics involved down there, and that sometimes you just have to accept you behind 8 ball....and cut bait and he did, and instead of wasting away anoyher year will get paid now....get more experience and actually be playing and become a big fish in a smaller pond.....and possibly one of the faces of the league which will garner him more $$ Guys testing that meat grinder eed to look at...how many spots are available...then see who is on roster drafted in first 6 to 7 rounds....then compare signing bonus money....if they got any....and determine from that your realistic chance...and if you get no bonus...well then 99 percent chance you are gonna be a camp body....PR guy and no guarantee for a long stint...or just bouncing from work out to work out...waiting/hoping....and all the while if actually not on a PR....U ain getting paid I think Rourke did it right, had his first yr....got some cheques but was by no means a lock for anything....saw 2 more opps this yr go nowhere...with writing on the wall...and made the right move coming back

  16. Always enjoy people trying to decide who a true Canadian is, or who a true veteran is, or who a true CFL fan is and then declaring that their definition is the "right" one.

  17. he's real Canadian... born and raised in Canada... spent the same amount of development time in Canadian football as Sidney Crosby did in playing hockey in Canada... yet no one questions "how Canadian" he is.... Drew Wolitarsky is a better example of "Ben Cahoon Canadian"... so to be clear... your expectation for every Canadian football player is their dream should be to play in the CFL and have no aspirations beyond that?... otherwise they are a fake Canadian?... and the word he used was "unforeseen" as in unplanned... he had hoped to make it to the NFL and didn't so he played in the CFL and excelled... then he had an opportunity to play in the best league in the world and we should chastise him to taking that opportunity?... you ignore all the parts of his statement where he praises the CFL and constantly pick out the one word, then change that word, to fit your narrative... we get it, you think he's not Canadian because he was good enough to play in the US... I can guarantee 100% of the Canadians currently playing the CFL would do the same thing if they had the opportunity.

  18. My opinion...they were trying to catch a wave to stop the bleeding and hopefully have the whole team riled up to the point they'd steamroll the Bombers. And in all honestly probably sell some tickets given the market. They knew with Dolegala they probably lose anyways. I don't think they needed the cap space because they could 6 game Adams. They could have signed Rourke and let him practice last week as a backup, takeover for the next game in Ottawa off a full week with 1 meeting day and 3 practices.

  19. That's a terrible definition. I understand not classifying Dublanko, Curtis, Singleton as Canadians.

  20. Many Canadians kids play at least a year or so of high school football in the US and then go to a D1 school. Still Canadian and its bullshit to say otherwise. From Winnipeg alone, Dallas Sims is at Old Dominion, Sean Sevillano is at Notre Dame, Trae Tomlinson is at Richmond, Marcus Wahl is at UND, Njita Sinkala is going to Boston College to name a few.

  21. Agree. We need all the ni talent we can get in this league. I do love seeing guys excel who played college ball in Canada, doesn’t make them better or more Canadian. If you were in a position to pick between a D1 school and likely leaving home for a good Canadian college program why wouldn’t you bet on your self and try to give your self the best shot. Jbr has mentioned it even if you don’t play you get drafted in the cfl. It’s been a long time but when I was around college football the difference between mid tier d1 schools and the good Canadian programs was still like the difference between the stamps stadium and facilities and the Dallas cowboys. In baseball they have had the same thing with “true Yankees” for a long time and it’s widely panned across the sport.

  22. Back in the late 80’s early 90’s the CFN (Canadian Football Network I believe it was called) broadcast some of the CFL games. Bob Irving was one of the TV PBP people that worked those games. That was almost perfect …

  23. I don't fault him for not being 'Canadian enough'. Lots of kids in Canada dream of playing in the NFL. That's a failure of the league, not the kid. He's Canadian. He just prefers the NFL.

  24. He played his senior year in the US. Went to a community college before transferring to Ohio, after graduating.

  25. True Canadian. Born in Victoria, raised in Ontario and played high school football there. Went to College in the states.

  26. To each their own. I mean that’s the thing about broadcasting voices, it’s very subjective for the most part. (Except Suitor obviously) I’ve always preferred the drier type of PBP, especially for TV. Don Wittman was a master of when and how to use emotion without going overboard. Same with Irving. Mark Lee was really underrated too I thought. Marshall Ferguson is my favourite currently on TSN right now for the same reason, though he’s still pretty raw and he usually gets really dull east games.

  27. I've been going to games at BC Place for 25 years now (missed this one due to prior commitments, unfortunately) and if you are expecting a game-day experience like Winnipeg you're going to be sorely disappointed. Yeah the announcer is part of it, yeah they aren't good on the replays etc but having been to so many games there I have to boil it down to one big element - the fans. The fans in BC aren't die hards like they are in Winnipeg, so they're not as invested in the game. A lot of times I've been to games there, even when Winnipeg isn't playing, and it will be 3rd down and one and the D is trying to make a stand. In Winnipeg everyone would be up and cheering to throw off the Offence, in BC no one even gets it that they should be cheering. I was at the 2022 West Final where we, the fans, ended up destroying Rourke at the end because he couldn't hear or be heard by his offense. That's because we have knowledgeable passionate fans, who add a ton to the game day experience. Especially when we are winning. BC place back in the day was super loud, like I'm talking back in the 1980's. I don't think they've ever gotten that back. I personally think that he jumped to the NFL too early. Should have spent another year or two here honing his skills. Instead he went at the first opportunity and flamed out. Just my opinion.

  28. Hamilton is about a 75/25 Pass/Run offense. I bet we run with Kramdi/Jones/Griffin set we did against BC quite often again as a primary look....basically 7 DBs, 3-4 DL, 1-2 true LB's.

  29. I’m surprised, but happy about Adams being moved back up, especially if Gauthier is at MLB. He never should have been removed, but I digress.

  30. Calling them media is generous... but yeah disgusting attempt to polish Rourkes turd of a game. They'd be better for implying admitting that he never should have played that game.

  32. Is it another bye week already? Beginning to wonder with the lack of actual chatter about the team, practice or anything like that. I’m off work this week and I need this place for the news I might get around the water cooler or radio. Have we heard anything about Demski or Oliveria? Both got knicked up in the game?

  35. I agree that TSN doesn’t have a great PBP right now currently. I still think Marshall could be one in time. Cuthbert was pretty raw in the early 90s and he became one of the all time greats. I don’t mind Gord Miller, but he has this habit that someone else on here mentioned before of using an incredulous tone on nearly every play. I’d still agree he’s currently better than anyone they have. Rod Smith has always been terrible on PBP. He’s a pure desk host. Neilson clearly loves the game, I’ll give him that. He’s just got too much of an obnoxious middle schooler vibe in his voice for me to ever be a fan, and he feigns confusion as a gimmick.

  41. Net punting is fine...but when other guys are driving the ball 15 to 20 yds further down the field and have a similar net punt...we still at a deficit...if we need him to boom a punt to kick us out of trouble...he can't unless one his line drive sqwuibs gets a lucky bounce or the returner botched it More times than not it's an illegal kick...or the returner had already tore up the field for 15 and is in full gallop before anyone is even close...last yr was really bad...this yr our coverage has been lights out and making up for that...which is a bonus...Miller has them right dialed in

    Restaurant/food thread

Like a condiment or to use on crackers but I said this about Popeyes chicken before and I'll say it again but about the cheeses: I want to form my own opinion about certain food items. And I've also said if I buy it try it but don't like it or aren't satisfied then I won't buy it again I want to try this at least once. Right now I feel like Rick Sanchez regarding that stupid sauce (yes I did try it, it's alright but not really worth throwing tantrums over)

  48. Very different set of weapons Rourke has. When he was at the helm he relied on Dominique "push off" Rhymes and James Butler a lot. Also had Hatcher, Hollins, Whitehead, Cottoy. Stanback is no Butler as far as being an emergency outlet. And he can't get away with just throwing the ball up and having Rhymes get away with OPI every time. He still has weapons but it seems like Hatcher has not rebounded from injury yet, Hollins is missing a step, and McInnis has been coming back down to earth.
