  1. I could be wrong but I don't think a ST player other than a kicker or returner has ever won the award before and isn't likely to this season. It will probably comes down to Janarion who certainly deserves acknowledgement for his career work, or Sean Whyte who has been outstanding in making 50 of 53 FG's this season, with the ceremony in Vancouver Whyte will probably be chosen the Belle of the Ball just for the extra media attention it will generate. Never forget they gave this guy an award in Regina, just for showing up at the ceremony on time with his shoes on the right feet.

  2. Must have meant 8 best total by a Canadian?

  3. Flutie might as well have been a God when it came to the CFL. Bad games simply did not exist for him. An absolute assassin on the field.

  4. Clamp down DB's where the ball is rarely thrown to their side should be receiving the silverware.

  8. as a db the fancy stats ....as in lots of tackles....knockdowns etc....are due to volume tossed at him.....you are gonna get stats in that regard...but whats the completion % against him...where ae those tackles....after 1st down gained?....how often is he targeted on 2nd and long....and whats the conversion there?...those are the telling stats.....and should be what are numb in the head writers should look at and publish for their case Why do think Nichols gets minimal recognition other than the people in the actual know,,,some media...other coaches....intelligent fans...he usually has low tackles...minimal interceptions....due to least targets in the league....but his completion percent against is likely top of the league Whats the Sask defensive backfield rank....vs the Bombers?......you would think the MODP candidate would play on the better of the 2...no?

  9. You just have to ignore the posts that drip with pure, unadulterated "Look at me- I am ******* awesome and you are all assholes"- it's healthier.

  11. Guy has a ton of tackles because they target him. Lots of tackles = lots of receptions. Same with Houston last year.

  12. Milligan winning any awards would be ludicrous. The bullshit hype is all media created. None of his stats are THAT overwhelming.

  15. Agreed. Brady is closing on on 2000 yards from scrimmage. He'd need a monster game to get there (217 yards) but considering how POORLY this team played in the early part of the season, I'm amazed he's as close as he is. It's even more impressive when you consider he played two fewer games than last year when he finished with 2016 total yards from scrimmage. Brady *should* be a serious contender for MOP.

Might be the end of the line for Nick. He and Aaron Grymes can have a beer and reminisce.

  17. Another well written cfl.ca article pumping Justin Mcinnis' tires for MOP with this bullsh*t tidbit, "McInnis has put together the eighth-best receiving yards total (1,469) in CFL history" Uhhhhh, what?? Most receiving yards, one season 2,036 - Allen Pitts (1994) 2,003 - Terry Greer (1983) 2,000 - Derrell Mitchell (1998) 1,914 - Hal Patterson (1956) 1,862 - Milt Stegall (2002) 1,856 - Geroy Simon (2006) 1,826 - Darrell K. Smith (1990) 1,812 - Brian Kelly (1983) 1,777 - Jamel Richardson (2011) 1,764 - Allen Pitts (1991) Thats top 10 and were still in the 1700's.

  18. Thanks. I think grant especially has been hard to stomach paying attention to for us bomber fans, but this has been the best year of his career. Correct. No cover guy has ever won it. 3 have been runners up on career years. The goat, arakgi, and beswick. All 3 put up better years in less games after multiple years of being a top kick cover guy. Wade miller twice broke the cfl sts tackle record and never finished as a runner up. Mike sellers as an up back routinely beat gunners and bullets down field to make tackles while dominating with his block. He pinched in a couple times as a ls, and was one of the best short yardage players in the world. He literally went to the pro bowl on the strength of these facets of his game after he left. Baron miles never got a look despite breaking the all time blocked kick record. If some one breaks through, they gotta do more than be in the top few with the usual number of sts tackles. Or like you said, the green bias carry’s another guy to an award they don’t deserve. The league should really completely overhaul the selection and award process this off season.

  19. yeah he is a MODP consideration for sure....but Ford has had just as good a seson....and on a better defensive backfield...which should factor in as well....but likely won't... i'd say better

  20. My theory is that a lot of the media don’t actually watch all the games, then base their award votes off stats. Separate point, with so many ratio breakers now on D, is it out of the question to have separate MODC and MOOC awards like they do with the main ones?

  21. Like every American qb, he needed time to adjust to the CFL game. In 1990, he did throw for 2,960 yards & 16 touchdowns but had 19 interceptions. He had a 52.8% completion percentage. I wouldn't call that bad. That would be average.
    2 points
  22. Not true. His first season in BC was bad. He kept getting pulled. After that, he was absolutely the best QB I've ever seen in person.

  23. I think you could make the case the goalies were better in the 80s despite their GAA and save percentages. They wore less padding. Todays 5 foot 5 Jesse saros looks like 6 foot 3 goalie did in the 80s, hell saros with equipment looks bigger still. I played. I was actually tall for a tender 6 4 without skates. I didn’t take up the room a 5 foot 10 goalie does today just by standing there and I played more in the 2000s and late 90s never mind the 80s. Goalie gear is insane today.

  25. Never mind that the only and I mean only reason flutie even had to come to the cfl in the first place was because he was "too short" to play in the NFL.

  26. Brady should be MOC and MOP for the second season in a row but I bet he gets gyped out of MOP again for Milligan or Beverette because the writers have the collective IQ of Ralph Wiggum.

  27. Not every Goalie is JS Giguere wearing mattresses for pads these days... there's a lot of **** goaltending in the nhl on a nightly basis right now. People are overly critical of the older Goalie because they see highlight reels of shitty goals, but you can watch highlight reels of shitty goals now too.

  28. I hope both Brady O and Ford have monster games this weekend to cement it and leave no doubt.

  37. You don't think Flutie tossing shovel passed would do well in today's CFL??? WTH??? Who out of maybe Collaros. Kelly & Adams would have started in 1994 with Dunigan throwing for 713 yards. Flutie, Austin, Dunigan & David Archer all throwing for over 6,000 yards. Then there was up & comers Jeff Garcia & Dave Dickenson. Yep, all they did was chuck shovel passes. Name me one qb from this era that has had significant playing time in the NFL??? You mentioned Streveler who hung around because of hius athletic ability not because he had the sbility to be a starter. he bounced around like a tennis ball from team to team. Nathan Rourke was chrwed up & spit out by the NFL. But his egos is so big he'll probably try it again with the same results. Why are we even debating this?? Holy ****, do some of us have such bad memories thinking this era of football was better than 30 years ago?

  38. Yup. Ford should have modp and Brady moc for sure. Brady also mop? I think the voters will spread the love to the east. I could also see them giving mulligan modp, Brady moc, and some one stupid in the east mop.

  43. The Flutie tossing shovel passes comment like it was all he did just shows some ignorance. Guy could make every throw. In terms of the 90s, Flutie not only spent significant time in the NFL, he was a Pro Bowler. Ditto Garcia, long NFL career and 4 Pro Bowls. David Archer had spent a number of years in the NFL before coming to the CFL. Nobody currently in the CFL has done that or is likely too.
