  1. Note for any MBB members in the GTA who'll be at the game tomorrow: I have a cooler full of beer, my section of the tailgate is serving cheddar smashburgers and I've got my travel humidor full of the okay'est cigars that you'll have all week. Any of you are welcome to pop over for a cold drink to wish me a happy birthday and talk football. My name is on my jersey and my picture is on my FB or IG if you need to find me just PM me for them.

    Dynasty or Disappointment

Zach needs one hell of a playoff run. He hasn't given us a playoff performance where we can sit back and feel comfortable with his numbers. Buck needs to call great games, make adjustments quicker, and help Zach out.

  3. You got it.....this kid is going to be an allstar in this league in a very short period of time

  4. yup we need to def fortify the oline....and with pieces we have...another good draft and maybe s free agent pickup...change center...we should be sitting good. Ws so glad Wallace injury was minor and not a surgery requiring sesson ender as that would have set him back pretty much well into mid 2025 Wallace to me just makes me think of mid 90's to early 2000's interior guard mauler types....kid's gonna be a solid perennial all-star if he doesn't get a serious injury to derail him...calling it now

  5. and none of his salary will be on the books until post labour day anyway....and can't pass judgement on him until he allowed to play QB...He wasn't allowed to do that this yr...we made him try and be some battering ram first few games, and into his start...and he was banged up rest of the yr from it...

  6. He was 1 and 0 as a starter. I’m not sure how he failed. Buck pierce failed the entire O this year.

  7. I will qualify my earlier comment by saying that I hope we lose Dobson but hit FA hard for OL upgrades a centre and OG. It's a GC hosting year. We need a beast of an OL back.

  8. I think he wants more pass rush from the ends. We just don't have anyone we've seen this year even back to training camp who can get off the line and put OT's on their heels. And the best guys at getting off the line, like Adams and Woods are 300 pounders. So we've rolled them out in a lot of downs on the edge. Even in terms of contain we are not disciplined, Jefferson especially. He overruns the ball all the time. Always poor leverage. About all he can do at this point is play Mutombo (RIP) out there and try to get his hands in passing lanes. But if teams are hard on him in terms of blocking he fades away.

  9. Over 18k sold for BMO tomorrow. Looks like we'll have everything sold and end at 19k other than the upper east side, which will not be open. I'm predicting a big Argo win and have placed my bet to reflect it. My second bet has an Argo win and a Rider win with no spreads.

  12. If you're a QB in a league where 6 of 9 teams make the playoffs, and your team didn't, there's no way in hell you can win MOP.

  14. Undersized centers are great...and very effective when they are very athletic and mobile, and used as such...Kolo is neither...and is still undersized....adding more gut to give him more mass has made him even less effective now as he just cant handle any motion in front of him now, and getting off his initial block to next level, has been next to invisible now....worst center in the league...bar none

  15. should have dumped Thomas and his 100 and some K plus money...gave it to Jeffcoat...and tossed in some extra to show him his value.....we lack on dline from him being gone big time...Paid fairly...he would have been back And when the lights came on in the playoffs....he was a standout every damn game

  16. I think the Strev injury was and will be a blessing in disguise as any coaching staff would be brain dead to run him the way they did....right off injuryand he may finallyget the chance now to actually play QB here...and use his legs like he did his first 2 yrs here and run when it had to happen or opportunity begged for it He will be back next yr here...so hopefully we see that transformation

  17. Really? I think he would be crazy not to test free agency.

  20. Younger's defense played well this year but it was hamstrung by a lack of physicality up front - for the most part, they aren't stout enough to hold up inside and (routinely) fail to get any sort of meaningful pressure on a passer. Injuries played a part in who we could trot out each week but I'm not convinced we have an "every down" tackle on the roster. For as athletic and versatile as Adams is, he's not that. Haven't seen enough of Fox to say one way or another and while Schmekel has a significantly faster first step than Jake, neither of those two are stout enough (or capable enough) to take regular reps.

  21. I agree on Dobson. He was god awful for the first few games and has improved but then had absolutely terrible games here and there as recently as the Toronto game. I was actually thinking he was a guy who may lose his starting position next year via Wallace, FA or draft.

  22. We were far from keeping Zac clean against Toronto. Jamie Nye also suggested the Riders would win the Grey Cup the last two years prior to this one so I would take his opinion with a grain of salt. Nye is a Rider fan first, journalist second. That is why.

  24. I have no issues with the Riders having all stars or even winning awards. All I care about is our team winning championships. Infact the way I look at it. Give them all the awards and all star selections. They’ll have a lot of guys asking for big raises in the off season and in a salary cap era I say good.

  25. Yeah if they gave up this obsession with a Canadian DT the play of the DL would be way way different.

  26. I don't give 2 shits that hes Canadian either for the roster spot, put anyone else there thats capable and figure out the configuration and make it work.

  27. Im hoping Younger does a little more with pressure from the Dline. Only sending 3 to rush the qb isn't doing much, especially when Thomas is one of the 3.

  28. yup...watch Kolo on a chip or 50 block...where he supposed to get to next level or engage a stunting lineman...he's horrible...either lisses his 50 or does nothing with it...misses the nextguy as he isnt athletic enough...or is caught looking around for who it is to be...as they flow in and disrupt ZC or just take him down...infuriating as heck to watch...and then a lot of times Dobson and Neuf get crapped on by posters here as it looks like they did the Ole Ole or missed a guy as they are trying to drop their man and at the least slow up they guy kolo missed...or are caught up dealing with a block they expected help on...

  29. I'm totally of the belief thats what we want him to do....as we are basically asking teams to take these short to short intermediate passes...and hopefully get the knock down You see in some games he plays a different game and comes off the line hard as eff...and causes a lot of issues....it's up to the other guys to clean it up and lock it down...but when for 80% of the snaps you have an immobile and ineffective ScmeckThomas up the gut...makes that work pointless. You also have to understand teams will scheme and do things that regardless of what WJ does he's ineffective, cause they out scheme us...and thats where the loss of Jeffcoat hurts us, and our inability to replace him...before it was a pick your poison thing, and even then they would beat it....couldnt focus, on one or the other...or scheme to opposite side....now they can until we prove it's a bad decision...lots goes on that to the eye watching on TV doesn't tell the story

  31. Ideally next yr I would like to see us go 3 import on oline with Randolph being one the guards...preferably right beside Stan....be cost effective and we can go after the best interior Canadian on the market...preferably a center Run Big Stan....Randolph....any center but Kolo...Be it Eli or a FA....Wallace and I am fine with Lofton....Neuf as the 6th and if we retain Dobson then he is 6b.....or we draft the best mauler in the draft and let him be 2025 Wallace Ratio wise we will have BO...Demski...2 olineman and a Clercius/Woli duo for 5 Nat's on offence, and with Lawson back next yr, we can easily put 2 Nationals at any give time on defence between him....Ford and Kramdi. I can also see MCI next yr as well getting some offensive looks too...so ratio wise we are in a good spot And thats without even picking up anyone in free agency to get legit defensive snaps, or factoring in possibly Kelly taking reps....as looking at what we have as it is now...thats the only National I would want to see given the chance to get a lot of defensive snaps in a game

  32. TRE FORD HEADING TO MARKET #Elks Quarterback Tre Ford made some interesting comments today on Sports 1440 Sports radio. #1) Did not decline any package or plays - Stating he never declined to run any package at Quarterback (in which some media commented on/painting a picture he's not a team guy). Ford did decline to play receiver when he was drafted. #2) MBT supported Ford - Mccloud Bethel-Thompson helped Ford in the film room & supported Tre Ford when he was playing. A positive relationship with MBT. #3) Contact talks with Edmonton - No contract negotiations with Edmonton to date. Teammates have suggested he should test free agency. Ford is very interested in testing the market. Ford also seemed to have doubts in Simon/Jackson's belief in him as a starting Quarterback.

  33. The problem I have with guys going off single analytics is that it usually replaces the old eyeball test and game situational importance. When used together you can get a more rounded view of performance but stats almost always require context and almost always lack context. Measuring a persons defensive prowess solely by tackle numbers or sacks is a fools game when you don't account for the variables such as team defence overall etc. Milligan, for instance, is a combination of INTs and ST tackles. Both are fairly meaningless stats in iso. Majority of his INTs resulted from very poor throws by the opposing QB as opposed to him actually making the play, and very few came in contested parts of a game. Glory stats gifted from desperate QBs whereas a guy like Ford made tough interceptions through exceptional reads and athleticism. End of the day all the media looked at were totals and not context and a guy gets hyped up even though, imo, Ford was the superior player. Overall team defence stats back up my viewpoint. Bombers best in the league vs pass, Sask near the bottom. Ford and our entire secondary were making every play, the RIders and their MOP Milligan, and allstar Sayles made some plays and were torched just as often. Individual stats don't tell that story.

  34. I think it's more the personnel upfront....a few tweaks and a reversal of who gets lions share of reps would make a pretty damned good defense into an outstanding one...especially considering to meet ratio requirements on any given snap Ford and Kramdi more than fulfills our Canadian requirement....reps with Thomas...Scmeck...and god help us both at once are wasted reps and do us nothing net positive

  35. Yep, before they vote, the media should go back and read some of the stuff from mid-August. It was the same story the whole season and when you look at how many passes he threw (at least 120 pass attempts more than any other QB), it's not a surprise he put up big numbers this year. https://3downnation.com/2024/08/14/opinion-hamilton-tiger-cats-made-right-choice-benching-bo-levi-mitchell-for-taylor-powell/

  36. I am completely gob smacked at the ineptitude of the CFL media this year. It's like they didn't watch a game this year because the weather was too nice and then threw darts at a dart board. I am not trying to belittle Anderson in any way but his stats tell the story of a defence not getting off the field more than anything. Wilson came into a depleted and struggling offence and outperformed every veteran receiver around him through a tough stretch until we got some guys back and then continued to produce a 1000 yard season. I like Anderson, but you look at the advanced stats of his defence and it shines a light on why he had the tackle totals he did and that they were hyper inflated by team ineptitude. Teams were literally running up the gut against Edmonton to kill clock for the first half of the season. His tackle totals dramatically tail off in the second half when Edmonton started to get into some games. I have always been a big skeptic of tackle totals as a stat in isolation though. Sometimes your tackle totals can reveal a team weakness more than anything.

  37. If the media votes for a guy who got benched, missed the playoffs and put up numbers when it didn't matter, the awards will officially be a huge joke. BLM played well, but facts matter. He was benched. Largely because he wasn't getting it done when he still had opportunities to win games. He's Hamiltons MOP which isn't something to be that proud considering the year they had....but he is in no way the league's MOP. Dru brown had a better year, Fajardo would be more deserving, Harris even. You can not give the biggest award to a QB who missed the playoffs.

  38. This looks to be a repeat of last year. Screw over Brady for a qb who put up a ton of yardage but won only 7 games & missed the playoffs. They'll give the MOP to Bo because he's at the sunset of his career & had a "Cinderella" season. Screw Brady over again because that's just how it works.

  39. On what planet do you chose Mace over MOS as coach of the year? From 0-4/2-6 to a 1st round bye deserved at least the divisional nod. MODP, should be Beverette, but Nichols or Ford should have been the west nominee.

  41. Pretty much, Younger wants the defensive ends to keep the qb in the pocket and push forward. Which is a good idea for qbs such as VA and Ford, but with Harris and MBT not so much. We do need to come up with better blitz packages when we need to so that we are not so predictable. Our team as a whole is too predictable especially in the playoffs where the better teams have studied our tendencies. On offence its very seldom we run a play where you can say that was a great game plan. Most of the time we just rely on the athleticism of our receivers or Brady. This year especially Buck has regressed in his play calling we use less motion and misdirection than most teams.

  44. yeah, kudos to BLM for bouncing back from being benched and for making the back half of the TiCats season interesting ... thought he was done the past few years but he made throws this year that I thought were long behind him ... but he couldn't get his team into the playoffs ... whereas if you subtracted our MOP we're not a playoff team.

  45. From RF.Com by former MBB poster GreenRiders 55 I think Milligan should win, and I think Ferland has a very legitimate chance as well! Oliveira had a good year, but this feels more like a media campaign than anything.

  46. MOP - Brady. BLM put up lots of yards because that's what you do when you're playing from behind. Couldn't even get his team near the playoffs. RBs finished with 5 more points than them... the RBs!!! MODP - Beverette. Milligan gives up lots of receptions so he can get tackles? He's not even the best DB in the West. MOC - Brady. MOOL - Hunter. MOSTP - Heart says Grant but head says Whyte. Whyte had a great year. MOR - Bridges but his injury probably means win for Anderson for durability. COTY - Maas. First East title since 2012(?). Mace won June and July - congratulations, enjoy the empty seats, please flush when you leave.
