  3. He was endearingly self deprecating in that article. He'd have made a lot more friends in the online CFL community if he'd have mixed some of that in.

    All things considered...

Because age and cost is going to force the GMs hand. I mean it's unheard of the amount of continuity this team has already had since 2019... now that the shine has worn off somewhat changes are inevitable.

  9. Insane to me that a guy like Wilson gets a shot based on his CFL resume which was pretty meh (if I was going to Madden rank him as a CFL player he’d be about 80 with some unrealized potential) but a guy like Schoen can’t get a legit shot. Even Lawler although there might be some emotional regulation analysis attached to him. I get age…although if you get 1-2 good years out of a UDFA guy you’ve done pretty good. Schoen is also the ideal kind of tweener slot receiver/tight end guy. Wilson doesn’t really have size or speed going for him at pro level. Can win in man, started to understand his job better with more time with Collaros as a rookie.

  12. Nasty could be just that, labelling people he didn't like as 'vermin' BUT every once in awhile he'd come out with a nugget when describing certain teams managers as Vice Presidents of Standing Around.....Morris dug himself a hole in many teams books and their sites and was banned quite regularly.....Quite a persona was he, that usually ended up being 'persona non grata'

  13. Wait, Nate didn't fight Lyle Bauer at Portage and Main in 2008? I could have sworn that happened with coverage on CJOB (I think Bob called the fight) and in the Free Press (Article by Lawler).

  16. I'm personally choosing to focus on "five straight West Division Championships, with two Cups" rather than "Losers of three straight GC games", if for no other reason than the sake of my mental health. **** happens... I'm convinced we'll never beat Toronto ever in a GC game, and both of the first two of the three losses could have gone either way. Things aren't perfect and adjustments need to be made, but I'm not going to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Things are pretty ******* good, still.

  22. Agree 1000%. I feel like Wilson is an over achiever. Which isn’t a bad thing, but I don’t think he has another step to take in progression. Clercius is a guy I really want to see take a step. If he does he could be a big win for us. Really good at a lot of the little things, catches every thing, and I don’t think Demski has a lot of high level play left in him. Wilson had almost as much chance down south as schoen had, before Wilson got this deal. Wilson now is gonna have more opportunity. That’s just not true. The nfl has seen many guys in the last decade with the same skill set and athleticism as schoen or worse who succeeded at a high level. The rams alone have been using the Cooper kupp/ puka nacua inside and out over the past several years in the exact same ways we use schoen, with the same skill set and athleticism. I mean it’s the jets. They’re the TCF of the nfl in the first place. I think that’s how it’ll go down. We’ve seen a few fringe guys up here at wr get nfl deals kick around back n forth and change teams up here. I don’t see some one lining up to give up 200k or close to it.

  23. Schoen had plenty of opportunity down south. Some guys just don't fit. He's not a NFL wr. That's not to say he's a bad WR just that he doesn't have what NFL teams look for when it comes to that position. He's been unbelievable in the CFL partly due to his use of the waggle. Wilson does to a certain extent. But I'm willing to bet we see him in 2025 in Blue and Gold.

  28. Yep, he even went as far as to name some of Campbells assistants when he took over the L's. He had Sherrit as the DC (correct but for the wrong HC) and Killam as STC (partial points for getting the team right but the role wrong). TBF, he wasn't alone. Some Edmonton media guys were convinced the Campbell history there, made Rick as HC a no-brainer.

  29. and thats cause you are...as you eloquently stated "John Q Public" as were likely your patrons Times have changed since, but guys still talk to trusted people....and if you are in the fraternity of player/former/coach/off-season trainer you get just as much...if not more info....whether you wanna believe it or not and here's something to much on...some people fraternize with current CFL players/execs/coaches outside of public venues...where there are no ears secretly trying to listen

Couldn't agree more. I really think we have a very good chance of hoisting the Grey on home soil this year. All we can ask management and coaches to do is to get us the chance to do that. The players then have to bring it home. All 3 years we have lost the championship game, many on this forum have let the players completely off the hook and blamed the coaching. While some coaching has been questionable there were ample opportunities for us to win all 3 games if players make plays despite whatever coaching issues there were.

    All things considered...

I get that it is frustrating to lose 3 consecutive championship games. There are certainly some improvements that could have been made, I just don't buy into this whole sky is falling nonsense agenda that seems to be permeating the forum. We are a well managed, well coached team with an excellent culture that players want to be a part of. Would I like to see some different roster management...sure....would I like to see some better coordinating in the big games....sure. Do I think these are firing worthy offences on a team that just went to 5 straight Grey Cups....not even remotely. Do I see an end of our ability to legit compete for yet another GC...not even remotely. Do I think players want out because of anything the coaches or management has done or not done....only those that are seeking more playing time or who we can't offer nearly the same money to because of SMS restraints but that is no different even in a GC winning year. The Bombers now have an excellent reputation around the league amongst the players as an organization that will treat you well and provide you with a chance to win, and that includes our own pending FAs.

  39. Twenty five years ago I was good friends with a CFL Head Coach & he gave me the dirt on the team. Players & coahes he liked, disliked & even trades coming down the pike. He trusted me to shut up & say nothing. I knew more about the team than the media guys covering it. I never said a word to anyone when he told me something. But I would have been the exception & not the rule. Others would have started rumours so I disagree with you. Players talk. Coaches talk.

  41. The other aspect is that sometimes venting and grumbling is just that... as an example I'll go ***** about my workplace but I'm still overall happy here and no real designs on leaving. Point? None I guess, just that context is everything and we all apply our own biases to all the information we are presented with.

  45. Okay well situation is a little different first off there’s a little difference then losing three in a row and never winning the big game then there is to winning two and then losing three. Obviously we know things aren’t good enough, but when Buffalo fired Polian they got back next year (and lost again) and then went 6-10 the next season, we’re mostly a wild card team for the next couple of seasons and then went 16 years without making the playoffs, meanwhile Polian then goes to Indy and goes to two more superbowls, winning one, and going into to the Indianapolis Colts ring of fame. Really the moral of the story is the grass isn’t always greener, as much as this team has to be better next year using that example actually shows making those kind of decisions can cripple a franchise if done incorrectly.

  46. Most gms don’t get fired for making 5 straight finals tho. Same with coaches. Walters and O’Shea have a job here along as they want one. I mean. Who fires ppl who makes finals 5 years in a row.

  47. I think some of this is overblown to be honest. There's a couple guys need to be shown the door because time has passed them by but some of the young guys people ***** and moan about were hardly guarantees anyway. It's really not the big deal a select few have made it seem.
