  1. Well he’s right. Over 300 k for a receiver is crazy, and quite frankly not even close to worth it.

  3. That's a good catch. The table I pulled from has him designated as a DB (where he was expecting to play when we talked in pre-season). Looking at where his snaps came, LB is much more accurate. I counted Cole with 186 snaps.

  4. pretty sure we will be bringin back all receivers with the Mitchell addition save for Whitehead....they want ZC to be comfortable with who he chucking too, and we have seen with new guys....he takes a long time to get comfortable and have chemistry with them....let alone trust them to throw to

  5. It's not really. Wilson isn't old for the average age of our core. And he is an exceptional athlete. It isn't even just the injuries and the fact that in 7 seasons he's only played 11 games or more once (or on average since he became a start he plays half a season) The real problem is on top of his injuries, he doesn't come back ready to go. It takes him a couple of games to get back to form. That combined with the amount of games he plays is just too much. filling in for him for half a year we can do fine, we have the guys to do that. But then taking guys who will play better out for a couple games so he can get back up to a slightly higher level is a big hit. We walked away from Jackson Jeffcoat, with out a replacement, who was a year older, played a larger portion of the year, and was instantly an upgrade when he came back and was inserted into the line up. If he is the litmus test on when to walk away from veteran players, Kyrie has been well under that mark for a couple years. Even if the standard is Jamarcus hardrick, it's time to move on. He was certainly older, but he had more recently started struggling to stay healthy and continue to play at a high level ending the year. He was also better as soon as he was put back into the line up than our other options. Finally, Jones is not an outlier or young physical specimen. He's a Lunch box guy. He doesn't cover his area in pass D very well with speed, and doesn't make great decisions. He was frequently too shallow last year especially late and teams attacked his spot. Jones covers the gaps, scrapes to the ball, and tackles well. Biggie is the clearly the real problem in the Lber core. As long as he isn't back it's not too bad. Kyrie needs to have a short leash in camp, and likely should be limited in reps if he makes the AR. He shouldn't be an every down guy even in his best form.

  11. WTF are people saying getting rid of Lawler? Dude was our best receiver and made some fantastic catches. Cutting top 3 in the league talent is crazy talk... similar to suggesting that we should of moved on from Willie. Crazy talk. Same with someone saying we should move on from Holm.... no. How about we cut the punter, the lbers, the d-line and the guys who never made any big plays at all last season.

  12. I am not saying we should go chasing quarterbacks but there has to be concern about Collaros, considering his degrading performances in the past 2-3 years. I hope that Walters has a viable plan B in case Collaros gets off to another poor start and/or gets dinged again.

  14. On a vet laden roster that WIL LB spot should be a rookie salary. Especially when the incumbent is in steep decline and cannot stay healthy. Not going to win in 2025 with 2021's roster.

  18. Both signings are terrible. Wilson can't stay healthy and neither can Gauthier who is nothing but an aging st player. Both should be easy to replace. Welcome back to the Winnipeg Country Club.

  20. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/antonio-garcia/32004741-5205-4848-e617-bf53283cf166 Garcia is an interesting pick. 31 year old former 3rd round nfl pick. Had starter at LT potential, but was a guy who played light in the 270s and low 280 range. Weight was his biggest issue in the nfl. Got blood clots his rookie year and missed a bunch of time which lead to him dropping 40 lbs. after his return being too light the pats cut him. Kicked around a bit made the colts pr but was suspended for 4 games for peds. Sat the year but again didn’t play. Looks like he only played one game up here between the elk and riders.

  22. Tyrel... But yes. We absolutely can find a cheap American to play that spot (Walters regime is littered with quality DBs) but it's all about how you want to use your roster. Based on how this team finds DBs, I'm not sure that breaking the bank for a NI one is that important.... Certainly not as important as re-signing a local kid who is the best in the league at his position, regardless of nationality.

  23. already had a year in the nfl and here before last year. Time adds up fast for guys going back n forth. Plus our system. Unless a team is playing fangio 6 a lot, (Vic fangio doesn’t even use it as base) he probably isn’t a fit as a cb. Very niche play style. Big calling card for us is he’s an elite athlete as a Canadian. For an imp db he’s above average to very good but not a crazy athlete by nfl standards. 27 and he’s not had a ton of experience. That said, he’s a guy I’d take a shot on. The flashes of dominance in making plays on the ball is really hard to come by. Leaves me torn on what to hope for tbh. I want him back. I don’t want to see us pay him some 200k deal. If he wasn’t a db he would be a 200k player as an ni in the cfl.

    All things considered...

All this stuff is just excuses... fact is they opted to play an injured player rather than give a healthy player the chance. They need to own that decision as a coaching staff.

  26. outcoached us x2 well the Argo's OC put together a scheme and game plan and used appropriate play makers to beat the apparent best defense in the league...with a career journeyman backup.....so there is that.....he must have some chops

Yeah looking/veiwing Jones as an elite guy....solution is a stretch...he is essentially a ham and egger type giy....just with a slice of chees wedged in to make an impact play here and there....but like you said....has some big holes...and limitations for a reg snap MLB....now does this harken to him not being put/coached or schemed to be in right spot and take right responsibilities?....we shall see..maybe part in parcel was still learning Youngers scheme....but in yr 2...another off-seson gfor Younger to tweak/redefine a few things I expect a lights out defense if given the horses....if we see some of the same gaffs tho by some the same guys...to me that reeks of insufficient talent to carry out Youngers vision and we need to upgrade...Save for WJ...Woods...Garbutt...Nichols...Bonds...Griffin....Lawson....nobody should feel safe in their spot being there or just handed to them we better

  30. Why doesn't @DTonOB 's list include Cole?... I know he spent a bunch of time on the IR but still played some
    2 points
  31. I doubt we will ever know what Kyrie signed for, but it won't be much. He's never broken into the top 15 lbers in the cfl in pay. (Not including sams) Biggie is the only Lber we've paid a decent bit to in the last while. We let JSK walk for like 100k iirc. I'd be we signed him for under 105k. My big concern with him isn't pay though, he will likely be on the 6 game 1-2 times this year. It's the reps he will see when he isn't able to perform, and the worry of us being married to the old guard.

  34. I beat the drum for Wilson all the time if you look at posts...Have said he is our best sideline to sideline player on defence and one of the surest tacklers....never once have I said any thing negative about him...we are better when a totlly healthy and in his prime Wison was on roster....so don't go putting words in my mouth thank you very much But is a 32 yr old guy...who has played 22 games over the last 3 yrs a high priority and be penciled in as th starter with next to no competition?...and or backup plan?...As we have seen that before...with Biggie...Jeffcoat...BA....and others I hope he has put injury woes behind him and at 32 prob could have 2..3 really good yrs in him as he is elite.....I wont bet on it tho....so hopefully he came cheap and they are looking at other options there as well and not just handing the job over

  35. Wilson when healthy is a good player. Of course he's rarely healthy. I don't mind bringing him back but you need a body behind him for when the inevitable injury happens. Gauthier is a teams contributer, you still need those guys. Orrrrrrrrrrr they're just easy signings

  36. and so it starts.....l keeping the band together...blocking new blood and further retarding progression and transition another yr Depth guys on a very team friendly deal where they are role guys would be fine, but if out performed in TC then released or PR'd....but this is not a good sign where they were viewed as priority signings before free agency opns up...Can just imagine who's next....Osh must be back from his lil trip

  37. The only issue with bringing all these guys back is that the Bombers have shown that don't release veterans if they make it to training camp. Maybe this year will be different.....
    2 points
  38. This is the key part of both signings. As long as they are team-friendly deals and we aren't expecting much from either guy, then I have no issue with bringing them back because at this point in their careers, neither guy can be relied on as an every game player.

  39. I’m really trying to wrap my head around this. Wilson can’t be counted on to be anything more then a rotational guy because of his health, he’s still a decent player when he’s on the field, and Gauthier is still a good ST player again while healthy. I have a hard time believing both would be in the league if Winnipeg didn’t offer them contracts. I’m hoping it’s a case where they realize this and it’s under a team friendly deal because otherwise it just leads me to believe more of the same old from the Bombers.

  40. an injury waiting to happen and a special teamer.... two guys I would've been fine moving on from... all due respect... Wilson was a top OLB in the league a few years ago and Gauthier is one of the best STers we've had during the mafia era... these two have done great things for this team... but their times have passed...

  44. The only eye roll is for a guy like you to think that the only valid defense is one built around pressure. Now full disclosure I prefer that style too... but I'm not so pig heatedly stubborn as to ignore that the way this defense played was different but still highly effective. To suggest it wasn't is pure pants on head ********.

  45. On Ford.....we waited for him last year until he gave up (temporarily) on his nfl dream and he returned here....Can see the same thing happening this year....He likes it in the Peg and quite frankly I don't see another club backing up the truck for him....I could be wrong but I say Ford is back in BlueNgold in 25'

  46. Lawler and Schoen will both be back....I like the Mitchell signing as the 3rd option and if his head is on straight and this will be the place to accomplish that then a score for us Lawler has had 2 unfortunate season of derailment.....seeing the folks rag on him saying he wasnt what he was is kind of funny...He's a talent that comes thru very rare...18 games with him....Along with Schoen...Demski and now Mitchell....all proven commodities and BO he will light it up To even assume that we gonna roll into 2025 sans Lawler....with a Schoen who is still a big question mark.... Mitchell....and then a rookie??...or some cheap cast off from elsewhere to go with Demski is pretty foolish thinking in a Cup hosting yr. Mitchell likely is on a very team friendly deal in a re-prove himself yr....and if he returns to his form when he first burst on the scene here...lookout... we have salaries to pare easily....and certain guys who re-upping makes no fiscal sense... yup...Schoen wont be getting paid top 5 in the league....and likely he wont even be on the books first 6 games anyway...Lawler isnt gonna hold us over the coals either...he's happy and secure here...found his spot....pay him fair and dont Jeffcoat him I have a inkling Jackson will be our O.C as well....from what I hear there are 2 guys at the front of the line...him being one.....I do know tho it isnt gonna be an internal hire Schoen has no choice.....has to show he's still capable and he prob gonna be 6 gamed anyway to start As mentioned above...Lawler loves it here...it will be worked out...if it hasnt already and just isnt announced Lawler also has history with Jackson as an O.C and was utilzed nicely by him as the pass game coordinator

  48. And based on how straightforward all of this I'm assuming in the spirit of being upfront with your existing rostered players MOS/coaching staff let Wilson and Dolegala know from the get go there was no way they were seeing the field (sans short yardage) other than if Zac was hurt enough where there was no way he was returning? Because, as some here post, Wilson/Dolegala are not good enough coupled with MOS's loyalty approach to people who have earned it in his books. So basically Wilson/Dolegala played the role of an emergency back up goaltender that you see happen in the NHL at times? Not a great model imo.
