  1. Honestly I don't even know why they're going to play this season. It's already over for them

I agree with your post, largely, but had to add: We yanked MacBeth for Kelly because his hand connected with a Bomber player's helmet (I want to say Jeffcoat?) and as you know, having to rely on a QB with an injured throwing hand is bad... luckily we had 12 ready to go.

  3. This. People have no idea how good we have it. Nobody's immune to criticism, and both Walters and Osh own some... But Jesus, we have been so spoiled.

  4. Walters performance has dropped the past few years.

  5. OL is a major and ongoing problem. Bryant could fall off a cliff anytime, struggled early last year before taking a bit of a break, Neufeld has been pretty bad most of the past 2 seasons. Hope is they always can fire up in October. At this point I'd be looking hard at upgrading all 5 spots and adding depth everyday if I were coaching/managing this team. Next, I'd say receiver room is looking like a bit of a mess. Lots of hope for bounce back from poor seasons/injuries. Really need Schoen to be the guy again and hopefully unearth someone who is in that #1 or #2 target realm. Hope between Mitchell and Stearns/White the 3-4 target roles are covered. Still waiting on those big targets that Collaros has tended to succeed with. By my count we have one guy over 6'2 coming back in Jaylen Hall from last year who couldn't make the team when we were down two starters almost right from the get-go. Not really worried about the D at all. They do need to work on pass rush though, and be ready to move Vaughters down the roster if he looks cooked. I'd like to see 2-3 legit edge rusher prospects in camp and pressing for work. It's been awhile.

  6. Cdn depth is weaker...... O-line and D-line are what I see as a "concern" Cdn depth, is less and weaker than last year. Oline, is weaker today as we "lost" Dobson we may go three imports or Wallace may take the spot......we may have a surprise, or a draft pick exceeds his growth curve...but today this is unknown and as such it is weaker IMO D-line, was IMO weak last year and while Vaughters helps, it is still IMO not strong enough.....too many "maybe" variables for me...Is Lawson recovered, will he be a force, does Vaughters fit, can he log the extra minutes, has Willy taken a step back, will Woods trajectory continue to trend up? etc. Too many unproven variables...so IMO as of today a concern As I said and others have said it appears we have a great RB core, a great QB core, our receiver core while not as high a ceiling has a much-improved floor, our specials are better, I really believe or LB care is stronger, and I feel passport and CDN depth aside our D-backfield is as strong as it was last year. CDN depth in relation to injuries and overall depth is a concern, our d-line over-all is a concern and depth and CDN talent on the Oline is a concern...... I don't feel we have had a great offseason thus far, but certainly nowhere near as bad as some feel it has been...I actually like the fiscally responsible direction, and I do strongly believe that none of Lawler, Dobson or Ford where worth to us what they got paid elsewhere, even though Ford and Lawler are very high, ceiling (passport/talent) players......

  7. Ya McManus is worth it for sure but he's the best D player in the league. Kelly was on a rookie contract for the first cup and didn't even play in this years. Ceresna they traded for and then lost immediately when he was FA again. Overall TO isn't going out chasing all the flashy FAs and paying top $. That isn't how they won the 2 of the last 3. Spending all that money on Schoen and Lawler last year bit us when they got hurt and there was no one left but rookies to play.

  9. Based on how a lot of draftees turn out, getting one all-star season out a 2nd round pick is pretty good. Anthony Bennett and Faith E now those were wasted picks.

  10. Not saying he’s not immune to criticism, but we’ve ran the West for the past 5 seasons, we’ve been one of the top three teams for nearly a decade. Trust me it’s going to be a sad day when Walters leaves the Bombers.

  11. I agree with you, but I want to see how the roster shakes out before I really get too worked up.

  12. We never have chased free agents hard. I do agree with not over paying lawler, ford, and Dobson. We’ve lost a lot of top tier guys in the past few years. we have to replace those guys some way. We haven’t been replacing top tier talent with top tier talent. It doesn’t have to be our guys, or other teams free agents. Can be trades, developing guys, signing nfl cast offs who excel etc. we hit with ford last year and lost him just as fast. So as much as that’s a credit, it’s a fault too. We can’t just be developmental for other teams. Walters n co need to do better with the alternative routes if they aren’t gonna thump free agency. Toronto has been doing it by developing, trading, nfl and obscure finds. Bc has spent in free agency and made trades while doing well off the in league off casts.

  13. And yet if you listened to walters talk way earlier in the offseason, specifically about Ford and Dobson, the impression is got was that he felt the price they were going to get was way too high. Fans are upset that the Bombers lost players and didn't make a lotnof huge splashes... but I bet Walters isn't nearly as upset as fans are. He seemed prepared to lose some of these guys.

  17. well for one.....we have no proven depth now out side of WJ..Vaughters...are Woods and Adams gonna continue with development....and...are they gonna get the reps to facilitate it.??...they need to play to do this....not get sprinkled in here and there for probably 2 of the worst Canadian interior dlineman in the league...bar none....name 2 others in the league that get the reps they do that are worse?.....and Is Lawson gonna be back to form out of gate...or early into the season...or at all???....big question marks there I like to go back to the comments that all the guys we let walk and got immediately signed in the league even before free agency started were no loss...insignificant....easily replaced....not good enough...well they were all starters or regular role players here last yr....doesn't say much about us then last yr in who we rostered now does it?... sadly...Godber who they dumped would be an upgrade over who we have currently probably already pencilled in as our starter

  18. Wallace/Eli/American.... Honestly the DL was a problem last year so why we kvetching that garbutt and haba and fox are all gone? Woods and adams were the best of the bunch and last I looked they kept them... so scouts do your job and find more guys who can play. Ol was a problem last year too so why are we worrying that we lost Dobson? I get the frustration, but a lot of those frustrations aren't related to free agency, they are related to the team having a different vision than some of us here.

  19. I wasnt talking bout first....but in second they still payed the salary...and we didnt trade for anyone cause???...oh yeah..."we good"...Flo was up for trade....we didnt land it..McManus yuip is good....reeeaaaal good...we didnt offer an offer too good to refuse why???...and if we payed premium....there is ways to mitigate it...Release Thomas...Move Kramdi to Mtl and play Parker there at prob half the cost.....where there is a will...there is a way...we have lost the will it seems...to compacent..too comfortable...too many consecutive season ending failures...u see the connection?? Other teams had rookies play...and play well....Schoen was off the books basically from start of season and we knew he wasn't coming back...there was 200k to play with there via trade....signing in U.S that would come if payed...we stood pat There was a lot....Coulda traded for Flow...Yeah Brinkman...Hendrix...even Oakman would have been a get....Rhymes...Lewis as well...in a deep group...great get....Adeleke..Couture..Mcewan...any punter not maned Sheehan...Kongbo was available...Bolo would serve more use than Cobb.... again....when there is the will to get better....there are many avenues to do it why not....its always been a young...key Canadian Oline guy is gonna cost you a premiun...even more than clearly better Imports....it is what it is...Neuf is on down side...and been knicked....so paying a dDobson or the likes more is standard business....Christ we wayyyyy over pay for what we get at SAM....Thats ludicrous, maybe if he was best in league and a perenial all-star difference maker...but he aint...wasteful when you can fill that role with a cheaper import...and better Our allocation is way out of whack and it hinders us elsewhere.....Half a million in BO and Demski....600k a QB in decline....prob 500k in 2 db's and a SAM....over 100k in a DT that should at best take no reps....and isnt even needed for ratio.... Who's starting at left guard...and who is the back-up...are we wasting a roster spot on a 7th oline guy again...and if so..who?...right now it would like it has to be an import so again...a colossal waste of a DA spot...again!! Who is the rotational d-end that isnt a place holder....Vaughters would have been great as the 3rd guy to rotate with WJ and..whomever....as it stands will be a raw rookie...or we put JT out there again??...good god! Interior dline...wheres the stud/difference maker??...we didnt have one last year that got to establish himself tho I believ with majority of reps Woods and Adams could be great....our dline is weak right now...and just because we have "bodies" doesnt necessarily make it deep.. Who's pushing the punter...or is he defacto the guy......Schoen..White...Lawson..Strev...all question marks until proven they are healed...and/or what they were...wheres the contingecy plan there?...we have a lot of work to do and TC like I mentioned better be an actual real..open competition with the best man winning...regardless of nationality...vet status or tenure here

  20. Yeah, we knew Ford was gone. They decided they didn't want lawler. Alright then, pay Dobson. A young guy with 18 regular season games, playoffs & grey Cup experience. As you say wbbfab, we seem to draft & develop now for other teams & Walters just shrugs his shoulders like it's no big deal. We don't have the depth anymore. Especially on the OL to just plug in the next guy to play.
    2 points
  21. honestly, Dobson is a guy who never lived up to the hype... Wallace will quickly become better than him. I completely understand not wanting to pay him that kind of money. Truthfully the "loss" that hurts the most was Desjarlais, but that's ancient history at this point. Ford is a loss from a ratio standpoint but I don't think the secondary will suffer from it. Dobson is a loss from a ratio depth standpoint but I don't think the OL suffers that much in terms of the first unit. Lawler wasn't the Lawler that we were bummed to lose a few years back, and last time Lawler left for a big pay day we got Dalton Schoen so it can still work out just fine. I don't think there are as many holes as people want to imagine there are on this team. There's some questions to be sure and some areas that could use an upgrade but I don't know that it's all that much worse than last year with some potential to be better,

  22. Ford just seems like a wasted pick. We drafted him in 2022. I can't remember if he was even here in 2022. Then he went on a year long NFL sojourn in 2023 & came back for one season last year. Ford became an all star & now has left for Edmonton because Walters doesn't feel CB's are worth what Edmonton paid. And Tyrell wanted to play with Tre. So, I won't fault Walters much on that. What I will fault is his unwillingness to pay players in certain positions like CB because Walters feel after a certain point it's an overpayment. Times have changed. Walters didn't want to pay Dobson what other CFL teams were willing to pay. To me, that was a mistake losing a potentially great young OL. We already have a veteran Center who may be the worst at his position in the CFL. Yet, he continues to play & draw a hefty salary for what he's worth. Kolankowski is who he is yet Walters & Osh seem satisfied with what he brings as a player. Why? We can all see his limitations yet he continues to play. Isn't that an overpayment of sorts? We allow someone like Dobson to walk because we don't want to pay what other teams will yet still overpay to keep Kolankowski as a starting Center. It makes no sense. So then, pay Dobson. Keep one quality free agent on our team. At least our OL would have been solidified. Nope, Walters lets Dobson walk. With at least $10 million sitting in the bank & the salary cap raised to $6.06 million plus an unexpected a windfall of $400 grand in salary cap money, we can't spend any more money?? As WBBFan said, all we're doing now is developing Canadian players for other teams. We draft them, they come here, play a year or two & leave with nothing positive to show for it. That has to stop. We need to reset & refocus as an organization. We have to be willing to re up our best young players. That should be the focus. I could give a **** about some over the hill player like Jake Thomas. who seemed to be a priority signing over Dobson. Where we used to be on top of things before. Now, there's a lot of failings.

  23. It’s true. But their short fall isn’t due to diminishing by way of adding less talent then they lose each year. Toronto is the model every one wants. Calgary before them. But we are not willing to dump vets at their peak. We want to dump em when they’ve got nothing left or get paid.

  25. not my view...teams may "get" it....they dont depend/rely/base anything on it....there are different grading methods used which carry actual weight and take actual metrics of what was going on..what was called..assignment issues/responsibilities....etc and again....discounting their eye for talent then?,,,they were raved about when here as bird dogs....and big losses......maybe it more a fact they know skill, but had a HC who didnt see it himself?...hmmmmm kinda contradicts he knows what he doing part eh?...lol

  26. I think a lot of the problems with the OL last year come down to Brady again...(dead horse here I come!). The OL is a run first OL imo...at least that's what they do the best. I hope they get back to that bully ball mentality they pretended they'd have last season. I don't want Collaros to have to throw for 4000 yrds. I want to be hoping Brady is closing in on 1500 yrds running and 500 yrds rec. Wallace/Eli/Nuef will be absolutely fine if Dlines have to try to stop the run more often than not. Control the ball, run it till you make them stack the box then put it up for Schoen/Mitchell/White etc..not the other way around.

  27. the only thing that really annoyed me this offseason is SSK getting Mcewen....theyve shored up their OL imo.

  28. dont look at PFF...Anyone with any football back ground wont thats just your assumption....but I agree likely....Our oline depth tho is severely compromised now and thin... I not even sure in the grand scheme if 3 imports makes us better, as we eat up an import spot then from defense or ST's/Rotation somewhere...and do we need to roster another import oline guy as a DA further weakening the over all roster? If Eli gets to take over at Center keeping KOLO as the 6th is a bad move as he only can play center...he's useless anywhere else in addition to being a weak center...so not a good 6th we have some issues...to may ifs and buts right now...camp will be interesting Maybe we holding back some cash right now for a draft day deal or 2....that could fix a few things right there

  30. DE, I'd be surprised if Vaughters stays healthy the entire season, if he goes down, don't know who they'll have to plug into his spot. Rotation wise it would be nice to have 4 solid DE's on the roster to start the season.
    1 point
  31. no glaring holes. But our OL/DL don't fill me with confidence right now. That may change before the season and will hopefully change during with their play. But right now I'd like to see a few more bodies brought in. I'm guessing the draft will provide some and whatever shakes loose in the weeks leading up to TC.

  32. T.O spent a lot on Perv boy...Flo...Ceresna...McManus....among a few others....and have 2 cups outta 3 to show for it....both against us btw.... We spent big bucks on guys we retained...past their usefulness or on the decline...maybe money would have been better spent replacing them and then retaining them...I dunno...just spitballin 😉

  33. not signing Thomas....Dumping Kolo....more for the kitty too....and both easily replaces....better options already on the roster.... yup...we draft and develop....and then they go...Ford...Desjarlais...Couture....Kongbo....Dobson....BOLO...even guys like Hansen who would have served use here.....No succession plan it seems...Had Cole for several yrs developing...one our best ST guys...and could play various spots on defense...gone.....Garbutt barely 2 yrs here... shown great potential. Was stilll cutting his teeth and like soooo many here claim...guys need to have a few yrs to earn a spot thats why Osh wont play em....gone...and there are others...we turn over the wrong parts of our roster....the bottom 5th...the straight teamers are easily replaced and cycled....we do it with succession guys or actual depth....and thats not even touching on our pathetic allocation of assets on our PR We been sleep walking for yrs now.....since 2021...if people haven't noticed it they blind....clinging on to the past and what worked before is not a great sustainability plan....and now we scuffling to have a complete and deep roster...as it sits right now a lot of "ifs" and " we hopes" for several spots...and still have some massive holes to fill....and counting on TC and new guys brought in to fill/fix isn't a process we use here unless we forced to due to injury or defection...we have seen that in spades yr over yr...and just the fact we re-signed some guys...and didnt dump some others is a pretty good indication we gonna see more of the same....hope I am wrong and will eat it during the yr.....gladly as I want success.....but until proven otherwise by seeing it...and results I aint holding my breath... We landed zero high impact/high interest/better than what we had players this off-season so far in FA Logan def better than what we had....Jones as well but how/where we gonna use him...We all know Osh will show loyalty even when not valid...and there is Wilson and the other Jones and Kramdi in his way...I guess you could say Ayers too.....I wanna see a legit TC this yr where jobs are earned....we havnt really seen that in a while

  34. I get what you're saying but they locked up Schoen and Brady last year for top $. Two star guys in their prime. Who has won anything recently making FAs the top paid players?
    1 point
  35. Yeah. I get that we don't want to chase every players highest potential raise. But we've really shied away as soon as any top level player his free agency. At some point you gotta win more of those battles, and you need to drive up other teams FA prices as well. You have to be a destination for star players. If you aren't a destination you'll never be more than a launch pad.

  38. I think with the cfl you always have guys like that. Wouldn’t be singleton. But stiggers, Alford, Isiah adams, Sydney brown, maybe good-jones, or maybe some one whose rights are owned by another team is cut and we trade for them. Like Doug brown back in the day.

  39. When looking at our offseason , and assessing moves, it has to be taken in context of our injuries ly. Schoen, Lawton, Parker, and to a lesser extent Wilson missed most of last season. If any other team had signed players of that caliber it would be a good haul

  40. To me, our GM used to be on top of things always. Now, he seems to be behind on a lot of things. Walters has been that way since he had that contract dispute of sorts with Miller who signed him last minute before the 2024 season. That really seemed to set Walters & this organization back. Walters has never seemed the same since. He looks asleep at the switch half the time or disinterested. This thing with the salary cap blaming the players worrying they may re-allocate the $400,000 cap increase to pension benefits is mind boggling. He doesn't seem as accessible as he used to be with the media. This isn't the same guy who built this team into a two time Grey Cup champion anymore. He seems to have no plan. Fewer players want to come here. We're no longer a destination anymore. And for some strange reason, Miller & Walters have deceided to become cheap in a Grey Cup hosting year. All with about $10 million sitting in the bank. Go figure.

A few players underperformed...so did some on winning teams that beat us too...that's not an excuse Unferperforming players generally are a direct line to being poorly coached in a game and failing to adjust and schemed wrong generally 90 percent of time...that and a player either just not good enough...or healthy ..and sadly we had all of that combining in it Those 3 reasons are why we pissed away 3 straight cups...we were out coached and poorly constructed ..especially the last 2 cups with minimal to zero depth to actually play as an adequate injury replacement...coaching was our demise even considering all the ya buts..they mean diddly T.o had nothing going on with their offence in 2022...so they yanked the underperforming vet for a rookie..pulled it out...mtl used a middling limited QB who we had owned.. schemed a game plan for him to negate our strengths...we didn't adapt ...we played 5 guys...key guys clearly injured...as we had no depth..or faith in backups...Mtl won T.O last yr...had to start a backup...schemed a plan for him...and on defense same...we either couldn't...or wouldn't adapt...then continued to play a qb who couldn't throw...as we either had no depth or faith in it...or ability to on the fly create a plan...and lost That's coaching boys and girls...but oh yeah we won the west...who ******* cares
