  1. I'm not sure the league is ready for a Blue bombers vs Blue bombers GC though

  2. Thanks to our guy @DTonOB for all the hard work that goes into producing something like this. It's a lot...

  5. I don't know how much the coach enjoyed it... but it was a fun chant in Nov 2019 at portage and main

  6. The real reason the Bombers lost the last 3 cups... they didn't play the Ti-Cats. Hopefully the Ti-Cats are good enough to make it there this year!

  7. back in the day the Ottawa Rough Riders had a fan group called the SouthSiders named after the rowdier "south side" stands. they were a hoot, good fans to hang out with, and they had some swag. they really embraced the South thing, with Confederate battle flags, pins that looked like Confederate cavalry badges, "south will rise again" t-shirts and stuff like that. This was a decade after the Dukes of Hazzard aired so that stuff seemed like just harmless fun. then I traveled the world a bit and figured out it's pretty ******* serious business to a lot of people. always wondered what southern US football players thought when they looked up in the stands and saw the stars and bars waving to celebrate a big defensive play. If they cared I hope they just thought we were clueless.

  11. MOS is obviously a humble/modest guy but your use of the word disgusted seems too harsh and exaggerated. I think its more of a feeling of awkwardness and unsettledness with attention. It's probably just how he has been wired as a human being over time.

  12. Jeffcoat getting hurt and not coming back was the beginning of the end. We had no 3rd DE and were playing 3 DT's. Honestly putting A linebacker there would have been better. Playing 3-4.

  13. FYI: literacy rates and sales of written materials (books, magazines and newspapers) have all gone down each year in the US for the past 6 years, paralleling the rise of intolerance and extremism.

  16. yeah that school basically encompasses that neighborhood...and its just crime riddled...even the scholl housing in the area is sketchy as heck....Its almost like a war zone....

  17. I feel like a QB who mostly carried a clipboard in our league would also be more of a student of the game sort of guy.

  20. Yes particularly if we're talking about the GC parade everyone including Oshea seemed to be enjoying themselves, whether or not they made a big show of it. I for one couldn't stop grinning for weeks straight after our 2019 GC win.

  24. Damn that’s wild. Ott has always had pretty active game day fans but that’s some thing else. Yeah it is, no joke in a lot of places. Going to a couple restaurants between towns with my co worker from nc and I got referred to as a northerner a bunch of times and he’d always just be like oh he’s Canadian. It’s nutty. I know plenty of guys are numb to it. Others have a us vs them thing with in their own team and fan base. At the same time that area has seen a big change in the diversity of coaches and modernization of leadership styles. I can’t imagine what it was like in the era of guys like Jim brown. Great sharing, thanks guys I love this stuff.

  25. My daughter was once actively recruited by Mississippi State to play volleyball. After much exploration and hard discussion, she declined a full ride scholarship.

  26. I’d Love to see an etymology of goof like that. The culture shock in places like the Deep South, and places like oak town is insane. Really makes you think about what some of these kids go through coming up here. I went through the south slowly, and I was stunned at each point how much more intense it got. I thought nc was deep in it, till I got to alabama and Mississippi.

  31. I think that clip board holders, and QBs that are not highly athletic, usually HAVE to be more well versed in the X's and O's. However, personality and ability to lead is just as important. Anyone think that a guy like MBT would make a great coach?
    1 point
  32. For sure. That's why we see the clipboard guys move the fastest up the ranks in coaching. People always think it'll be the extremely successful qbs that translate, but the guys who didn't make it tend to out perform by a lot.

  35. Nice that’s awesome. Yeah it’s no joke down there. I’ve seen a bunch of kids teen to 20 ish and the knowledge gap is heart breaking. Even young teens and single digit aged kids knowing and doing some crazy stuff just to live. Up in the middle of the night to walk to soup kitchen the safe way to be in line for when it opens then walk back to bring food home for family. But then don’t have basic understandings of soo many things even up out of the teens. Reading, normal life and family relation stuff. Just gutting. Malcolm gladwell has a couple books that goes into various factors in poor areas. ( tipping point/outliers/ why I hate the Ivy League) Even for the athletic stars and brilliant minds it’s soo hard for those kids to break free. Juco, the fledgling leagues down south and the cfl have done soo much to change soo many guys lives. If any thing we need a better vacuum to pull those kids up. I appreciate every one who works to lift those kids up get them into juco, college, Europe etc. People like to poop on football programs, and how much money their programs draw. But those programs have all saved countless kids lives and provided them escape from various hellscapes.

  37. even parts of Missouri....danger at every corner....make a wrong turn is ST Lois or K.City and you will get a dose of reality...scary We would recruit guys and train from Cali power houses like Longbeach Poly...Centenial...Inglewood so would get kids from some real bad neighborhoods...good kids but wise beyond their yr's just to survive and in and around Oakland....Eastmont...P-Laney..Freemont....places the Police avoid if they can for most part People up here complain about a lot of stuff...conditions of this and that...bad neighborhoods....They havn't seen the half of it...sad part there is so much athletic talent there that just cant get a chance due to circumstance it's crazy...and sad Placed a lot of young men in JUCO schools there and then onto places like Diablo Valley college...Fresno...Shasta in what is now the Big 8 conference in Cali...working with the NCSA (Next College Student Athlete) if wondering what that is where help is given creating recruiting profiles...finding right fit...access to the resources that they may not have gotten in the recruiting process from no fault of their own...just their circumstance and actually allows them to access what schools and coaches have actually accessed their profiles...pretty good stuff....something sorley needed up here but lobbying for it and trying to get something started up here basically falls on deaf ears

  38. Just on here for the first time today. Like, man, what an interestimg read. Thanks guys.

  39. Yeah man. I wouldn’t be comfortable if my kid went to school down there. I felt like in Alabama things were kind of hidden in a quiet segregation. In Mississippi, it was soo openly divided. It was soo uncomfortable. I have friends and co workers in the Carolina’s and Mississippi is a culture shock for them. I’ve seen some really really bad places, but miss sticks with me on how comfortable, and accepted it is. To quantify it, I do generally like the edges of the south. The food and hospitality is tremendous and it reminds me a lot of here culturally for the most part. How’d she do in college vball? Did she still play down south?

  40. I also thought it was way off, then I noticed it's only tracking from 1954 onward Argos and Bombers both won 9 in that span, Als won 7, the most recent wins are included... I think it's all there Yeesh if being a Cats Stamps or Riders fan wasn't bad enough on it's own... those are some rough numbers in the big dance

  41. yeah I was saying that not to be a penicular device...Just a word of caution and advice from real world experience knowledge...as odd as it seems.....that word is a real no-no and can be very offensive in some instances, and by the time you realize it you may be waking up in an emerg department....if you wake up seeing as it is off-season and we dont have much else to yammer on about than good natured bickering a lil story.....I lived an played in the Oakland area for 3 yrs....and had some teammates who were straight gang bangers...or were guys with support of their gangs had got out of the lifestyle to try and make it thru sports...so would come to games...and practices as support so got to meet many....and it's a different world with different politics. I would watch guys have total convo's without saying a word but all in sign....and it was extraordinary to say the least. They taught me some lingo but the sight of that, was about the same as the sight of a big white dude trying to cut the rug on the dance floor....you just dont wanna see that! Went on a couple excursions as a "guest" to a few of the neighborhoods for BBQ's ...to say the least I was scared shitless and I rarely scare

  46. doesnt matter what he says to media...he still the HC and got praised for it...what are you not seeing...Players will say same...thank coaches for putting them in position to be successful...and their teamates as well....Only real dipshits and guys who dont last long in one place will wrap themselves up in all the glory and spout off about it.... So when things dont go as well....they deserve criticism...Players wont outwardly say "coach effed up and had a bad scheme...and didnt adjust" which is a lot of times the case...or poor roster moves......but believe me they feel that way....Osh when things go bad can't admit he screwed up...and would and does say...."I'd do same thing"...."no...that wasn't reason"..."I like our guys...all starters"....there is the deflecting and protecting guys and not admitting fault....but there is also taking ownership and admitting you screwed up too No coach is perfect and they all have faults that cost them games...Even our Oshea.....all coaches also get stale...flame out...and get fired....and as it stands since 2021...Osh...AND the Bombers as a collective unit have won nothing.....another failure due to similar reasons has to be...and should be a discussion on future.....whether you'all wanna believe or agree with it or not...

  47. The Bombers won 2 Grey Cups and Mike OShea humbly deflected credit to his players staff and fans, this is total BS You could barely get the guy to say a word about his MOCoach nominations when asked point blank ffs if you're gonna **** on the guy at least **** on him for his actual faults

  48. Gagnon and McKellar were the two guys I was hoping we'd be after. Decent already, still with some upside, should be good value. Edmonton likely overpaid McKellar because Hervey struggles with the ratio. McEwen and most of the others that hit the market without pre-determined destinations are on the steep decline.

  49. McEwen for 150k seems like a great price, I'm disappointed we were either not interested or not willing to pay up
