  1. The league could do a better job of promoting guys like Brady.

  2. This. Sideshow Ed is now claiming he meant there's no Michael Jordan level superstars. That's true but there are very few people in any sport that have achieved that level of fame - that's beyond a superstar to me and is more like a cultural icon. The CFL absolutely has it's own superstars, even if they aren't known world wide.

Why not go old school and go Fred Penner. I’ve seen him in the hood recently as his son lives near by.

  6. My take is that every pro league has their stars or "superstars". The CFL s no different. You mentioned BO & Rourke & I agree. There are players who excel in the CFL. Fans knows who the great players are just like they know who aren't. Fans, especially ones that lean towards liking the NFL keep saying no one in the CFL can play in the NFL. Meaning we have no stars to sell the game which is totally ridiculous. The CFL have players I want to watch that play for the Bombers or with other teams. The league doesn't do any marketing of its players. They don't get the exposure they deserve in the media. It doesn't mean we don't have superstars.

  7. I don't care who performs just as long as they aren't interviewed during the game. Keith Urban is not alone in this criticism.

  13. The Super Dogs were great. That was one halftime show I dearly missed when I moved to Calgary. They do have dogs out here & they're really good as well. However, the Stamps barely booked them. I just preferred the Super Dogs, I love dogs... Humans don't deserve them.

  14. Eric cumberbatch defensive half from the gee gees looks really intriguing. 6’2 202 4.51 40 39” vert 7.12 3 cone 4.31 ss 11’2” broad jump. 26 games 83 tackles 4 tfl 15 pkd 3 picks 1 fumble recovery. Real outlier in terms of athleticism and frame. Long tall strong guy kind of similar to clercius. Missed a bit of play time last year. Not sure if he sticks at half and doesn’t have an extensive background excelling on teams. But he’s got tremendous up side as a pass cover wil, S etc. Testing numbers and build likely push him up the draft board, but he could be incredible value in the 3rd plus or minus a bit.

  22. https://www.cfl.ca/2025/03/24/mmqb-ranking-the-cfls-top-3-defensive-ends/ Another craptastic cfl article, this time from cfl.ca The only one on the list I agree with is Flo. He is the best end in the league. WJ, as we saw in the GC game, can turn it on and play at that level. But he can't nearly maintain that level of play. He's just turned 34, and is far removed from his best days. He makes 200k, and when it comes to maintaining contain, run stopping, motor, finishing tackles and being read he's the worst in the league. He can still jump passing lanes and get a knockdown every other game, and when he turns it on he can really blow your hair back with his pass-rush ability. If we run a decent nose in lawson/woods and severely limit the reps for jake, and don't have a free spot for the opposition OL on the other side of him he can still be really effective. Even more so if we actually rotate willy and keep him to between 40-50% of snaps. But he's a lost step and or an injury away from being done, and he plays a lot now like late stages Elfrid payton. Mauldin hasn't put up the same sacks since his career year, but he is always around the ball making plays. He covers as much ground as any DE, and is always generating pressures. He makes the guys around him better. My all cfl DL would be flo, ceresna, sayles, and mauldin. A lot of guys could be in contention for a 2nd team. A lot of guys struggled last year with the holding that was allowed, and with their teams schemes/talent. Toronto constantly pumps out extremely productive DL because they always put guys together who fit well, and who have extremely high potential. Who ever they plug in you can expect to be near the top of the league every year.

  24. You mean the guy who played sherlock? Binglestink Combhisback? Could be... Yep. Stars who transcend sports are pretty rare these days. The world is soo compartmentalized that we just don't see guys who are world stars because of north American sports any more. Yuup. And honestly out side of lebron, I don't think any other NBA player has that kind of fame today. And I don't think we will see another one like that for a long time. I don't think the NFL or MLB have one guy like that either. QFT. Especially the Canadian guys, but the real stars of the league should be more prominent in marketing. By that, I don't mean their face on a graphic showing the up coming weeks games for 9 seconds. What BLM did in the past bunch of years working the GC broadcast is a great example of a guy creating a brand for him self. And it crushes all the leagues attempts to brand stars over the past 20 years.

The large portion of the cfl market is probably 30-50 men. But the aim is to try n get the youngins to brand in. A really big Canadian act would be great. with the elbows up campaign and massive ground swell of national pride locking in a show like that before the season would help bring in more eyes.

    The TV Thread

I found the 4 part series Adolescence to be a great watch. Each episode was filmed in one take which made for it to seem like you are there. What is interesting is they shot each episode twice a day for 5 days. Hopefully they renew the series with new story lines.

  34. Star Wars has always had a huge British element to it (from the Empire being based on Imperial England, to many actors being British and much of the filming/production being done in England). Lucas, at times, gets too much credit and not enough blame (IMO). His writing has always been a bit clunky - his ex-wife cleaned up a lot of the dialogue in the original trilogy to make it work. She did not work on the prequels and it showed. You also can't really say anything past 1981 strayed from his vision when then prequels (1999-2005) were 100% him and they were no where near as good as the original trilogy. The original series had different directors/producers and such so that wasn't a huge change (those 3 films each had a different director, 2 different producers and 3 screenwriters) but Lucas was there to handle the overall story for the first 6 movies, which the last 3 did not. I think the last 3 films could have been better if there was some continuity off the screen in overseeing the story to make it consistent. They started out good on that path by bringing Lawrence Kasdan (co-writer on Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi) to co-write The Force Awakens so they fit well with the original trilogy. Abrams was offered The Last Jedi but turned it down (because Disney's schedule had no time off between filming the projects & he needed a break) so they brought Rian Johnson in. Johnson had no connection to the series and he had his own vision, so he went in a different direction with some things. Abrams came back for Rise of Skywalker but now had to to tie his original story into what Johnson had done and it wasn't great as a result. I think if Abrams had been able to do all 3, it would have been much better but we'll never know.
