  6. The scheme certainly did get lazy. But I think the cause was a bit different. It seems to me like the last year and a half or so so a lot of frustration between zach and buck, and possibly the staff and buck. I think zach became a weak spot for buck just like nichols did for lapo. We saw a few games prior where the screen game and read option seam attacks worked brilliantly. But that is not how zach is wired. I think Buck wanted to rewire the offence to work around stuff that doesn't suit zach, and he got push back. So he pulled out the old wrinkles and let the offence flounder running just what zach likes.

They have arguably the two best players in the world, but aside from that......? No goaltending, approximately 2 D and virtually no depth. They definitely got on a heater last year, but yet again, no dice. It's going to take some kind of other world miracle for a Canadian team to ever win a Cup again...

  10. I don’t think he got lucky in the wf, if any one was lucky it was buck. I think he’s had two good strong games in the play offs here, and they are similar. He was able to get his deep shots. That’s kind of how it goes with Zach. He could score a td on every drive, or complete barely 10 in a game and toss a bunch to the wrong team. Hes always been that guy. Live by the sword die by the sword. I get rolling with that a few years ago. I don’t think zach is zach any more. I’m not expecting to see 3-4 td passes in a half or score on every drive into the 4th any more. I think his injuries from the past season and a half ish. I think he’s injured and aged to a point where he just isn’t that same guy. At this point, I would take other guys over Zach right now going into the season. Straight up, I’d rather bank this year and the future both on any of Dru/rourke/vaj. I wouldn’t be happy paying rourke that money, and I’m not sold on Adam’s maturity/culture. But I’d still take the risk on those guys. Even just for this year. The fact all 3 should play as good if not better next year is a bonus. Id love to be wrong, and I think the oc/ol changes and wr health will go far to help Zach. But at this point I kind of expect us to finish with another qb as our starter one way or another.

  12. No, you're not crazy for thinking that. I don't think anyone puts out mock drafts worse than Ferguson's. In the past, he's had versions that did not end up with a single correct pick. It gets people talking though so I guess that's the point.

I just personally don't think a Canadian team will ever win the cup again. It doesn't benefit the league in any way, so I feel like things will be stacked against Canadian teams always. It would be a complete and total fluke against impossible odds.

  16. I don't believe there's a line of people willing to take the job. Generally though, Bell is flailing badly with TSN being a core part of their problems. Have been hearing for awhile they are trying to auction off bits of NFL rights just to get a little cash because they are having such issues. Obviously a position the CFL and it's fans are quite familiar with over the past 50 years. Maybe this is the guy. But, low public profile, kind of a meh Jeffery Orridge/Garth Buchko style inside hire. I am whelmed.

  18. https://3downnation.com/2025/04/03/roughrider-foundation-invests-1-8m-in-saskatchewan-amateur-football/ riders put out a big investment in the grass roots game with some much needed equipment. We do this and a couple other teams do it every soo often. I’d love to see the league and the teams go in together on this stuff. If every team was invest 1 million bucks every 3-4 years like this, and grouped that money to make a single large purchase I’m sure they’d get a lot more bang for their buck. Id also love to see a compensatory pick round for the two teams that do the most each year to grow the game at the grass roots level.

  19. We have/had become one track and it's easy for opposition D's to pick our schemes apart when you become too pragmatic....I can't remember when we through in a 'change of pace' play in, or a 'fake' of any kind....I think back to the old days when we used to implement the ol fumblerooski' to throw the opposition a curve....Guess that would be too radical for the current regime...or dare I say 'imaginative'

    The Music Thread

I mean they're both hard rednecks but Green is way less outspoken about it. Aldean is almost as bad as Wallen for mouthing off about his politics. Fwiw I like Green a lot more than Aldean (musically). Good singer, decent writer. He's not a headliner of the same stature as Aldean but he's climbing. Fwiw, I personally prefer this line up and would be more inclined to buy a ticket now...

  21. That mock by Marshall Ferguson doesn't make a lot of sense. II get the OL pick in round one but Rourke at #15 instead of a WR (Ethan Jordan) or a DL or LB? It makes no sense. As @JuranBoldenRules stated Rourke is already beat up physically, likely tries the NFL and may never come here. Terrible option at 15.

  23. I really didn't like the way that Buck almost completely abandoned all the pre-snap motion we used to have in our offence. I am not sure why that happened, maybe all the new receivers? At any rate I think it hurt our offence, particularly when Streveler was playing. I am hoping our new OC brings some of that back, It may lead to some growing pains early on, but we were so vanilla the past two years and not just in the play calling but it can be seen pre-snap. That leads me to believe this was way more of a Buck issue than a Zac issue.

  24. From design to application, that's the key.

  25. It’s entirely true of the product on the field. We took vanilla and made it bland gelatine. I have no doubt the room was watching and talking about stuff but virtually none of it made it to the field.
    1 point
  26. Based on every scrap of info we actually have, that's not remotely true. Everything I've ever read is that the WBB QB room is constantly thinking about new plays to get in the playbook. They're constantly watching football of various leagues and then texting each other about things they see and how to implement them. You can argue a lot of things but I don't think you can say the stopped trying to be creative. I think what we might have seen last year was a terrible OL that provided very little time for the offense to get creative.

  27. Yea,,,I agree. I will caveat that hoggies are a bit of a different breed when it comes to how you prep them though. They need enough wind to play but the veteran big guys just need enough to get the chemistry back. Nothing more really.f

  28. Honestly, camp isn't nearly what it used to be. The limitations on impact, banning of junk like Oklahoma drill, length, etc, have de-toothed it significantly. It isn't like the old days where the 2 a days had guys re-tapping raw skin and doing 2 full run-throughs of full contact and high exertion. The off season for players is also far more active, and you don't need to do nearly as much reconditioning. Now that said you still have to be smart, not like chris jones blowing out a half dozen guys ACLs per day for the first few days. Frankly, I don't care if the vets sit half the day or every other day or what ever they need to. As long as they can be ready to play 1q of the first preseason game, 1 half of the 2nd, and be at full pop for the first regular season week. Aside from injuries in camp and guys coming back from injuries, if a vet can't consistently do that, they are probably done anyway.

  30. Look, I'm not sitting here trying to give Zac a free pass. He needed to be, and needs to be better. I am simply stating the obvious that in the past 3 Grey Cups he has gone up against juggernaut defences while our defence allowed late game heroics by opposing QBs. Should Kelly ever have been able to come off the bench and beat us? Fajardo take it to us in the 4th Q? Arbuckle actually do anything productive let alone beat us? There is more to these losses than Zac's play that's for sure. I would take Dru or Rourke over Zac now too. Sadly, that option is not available to us. Vaj...nope...I'll stick with Zac thank you.

  32. One strange movie is The Island of Dr. Moreau. Apparently Kilmer was tough to work with as he was "going through some things" as he found out during filming that he was getting divorced. If you ever watch it, note the blue arm band Kilmer is wearing. The director begged him to take it off as it made no sense for his character to be wearing it, but he wouldn't take it off.

  33. I have no issue with criticism of a QB in the playoffs as long as it comes with praise when he does well also. You were deriding, rightfully so, his play in Grey Cups lately but then suggesting he got lucky in the good games he played. I don't think either of those opinions are a complete story. When his team has played well and executed so has he, when they haven't he hasn't. Is he able to lift a team badly playing up to victory..nope..but I don't see anyone in the CFL right now who can.

  35. I think we could potentially look at one of the two who have been in camp with us and are candidates to switch to wr, late late in the draft. A wr who can be a short yardage guy, holder potentially, maybe run option pack etc and be an extra qb as a Canadian offers a lot. 6th round type thing. I see no chance we take a qb that high. We are really well poised to get some depth guys with lots of upside in the exact spots we can use them. Makes no sense to go after a qb, even if we thought rourke was the guy and would be here soon. Which he certainly won’t be here any time soon, and I’m not sold on him.

  36. Kilmer just had that 'something' when he played a role. He had so much charisma in every character he played. He stole the movie Tombstone as Doc Holliday. He stole the first Top Gun movie in his role as Iceman. It was the same in every movie he was in. Kilmer should have been given the lead role in the first Top Gun motion picture instead of Tom Cruise because he owned that movie. Even in Top Gun: Maverick his scene with Cruise knowing that death was coming for his character was charismatic. All Cruise had to do was know his lines, be where he was supposed to be on the set during the scene & watch Kilmer at his best even in poor health. Rest in Peace.

  37. If it was a one off you got some traction there.... but we're on 3 straight years of making excuses for the top paid qb in the league...
    1 point
  38. No chance. There's way too many good players in this draft. And we have such a lack of depth at Canadian receiver, OL and DL on top of counting on some senior players in football years to carry a heavy load. Like one day Demski will just be done, Neufeld There's still no real upside to rostering a Canadian QB. K Rourke will probably be 28-29 by the time he's even thinking of coming to play in the CFL. And might be physically cooked by then/made enough money that he doesn't really care to come here and try to compete to lead a team. 5th round or below I could see it. But I bet Calgary uses one of their freebie picks on Rourke. Elgersma and Senecal are legit candidates to make a CFL roster as a QB too.

Win a round and I’m happy. Show some legit progress. The cup would be nice but that’s probably in reality fantasy land talk. A cup win would be the biggest moment in Winnipeg sports history. It would be huge. Would change the nhl a bit. I’m cheering for that but not expecting it. Win a round. And when you do lose go out fighting not giving up. If it’s 6 0 with 2 minutes left I wanna see guys busting their balls to the end. This team has given up in the past. I don’t want to see that. Win a round tho. Then win another round. Then another. Then beat Maurice in the finals.

  46. Greenwood has tremendous size and athleticism. That’s a great guy to have in camp. Hall is small for and end which isn’t the biggest deal, he does have really good athleticism for the edge but not as amazing considering his size kind of what you should expect for that size. Camp can’t come soon enough. Soo many great position battles coming up.

  48. Love how he moves in coverage. A Canadian S who can pick up any one on a bust underneath is a great luxury. Forget if he takes a step forward this year. I just want to see more of what we’ve seen from him.

  49. People sleeping on him thinking he’s like the late stages oft injured Hallett boys. Kelly’s a legit run and cover guy. Impressed me with physicality and ability to play down hill against the run. Small sample size, but he’s shown a hell of a lot of promise. I’m not a fan of the token Canadian at S that teams have frequently run out. Including us at times. But Kelly isn’t that guy. Should change his name tbh. Aside from being a cooler name, once the ball is snapped kola hits the vanishing point. … I’ll show my self out lol
