  3. For clarity sake... WFP: Mary Agnes Welch and Mia Rabson The NDP candidate for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia-Headingley has stepped down after comparing the practices of an ultra-orthodox Jewish group to the Taliban. NDP spokesman George Soule confirmed late Thursday that Stefan Jonasson, who previously ran for city council in the area, has resigned. In 2012, Jonasson tweeted "Much like the Taliban and other extremists, the Haredim offer a toxic caricature of faith, at odds with the spirit of the religious tradition they profess to represent." The tweet surfaced Thursday on the True North Times, a blog whose stated goal is to capitalize on "scandals, politicians who are more ridiculous than cartoon characters and a highly contested election on the horizon, where there will surely be blunders and comedic moments." Jonasson told the Canadian Press his comments were taken out of context — he was not comparing Jews to a terrorist group. He said he was criticizing the way women are treated by the Haredim, including segregation of the sexes and strict dress codes. Jonasson says he was asked by the NDP to step down and agreed to do so. "I wish that the party had had the courage and the foresight to believe that my candidacy was worth defending, but they did not," Jonasson told the Canadian Press Thursday night. "I'm conflicted. I understand the party's reasoning and it's a disappointment to me." Jonasson said he was asked by the NDP to step down, and he agreed. NDP Leader Tom Mulcair issued a brief comment about Jonasson's decision following the leaders' French-language debate in Montreal. "I think that that person clearly recognized that he had said something totally inappropriate and has withdrawn and that's enough," he said. Jonasson has a bachelor’s degree in theology and arts as well as a master’s degree in divinity from the University of Winnipeg. He’s been a Unitarian minister since 1991. He served in senior roles in the church, most recently as director of growth strategies and large congregation development. The riding is currently held by Conservative Steven Fletcher. Also running are Liberal Doug Eyolfson and Green Party candidate Kevin Nichols. The NDP placed second in the riding during the 2011 federal election. "There is no safe seat for the Conservatives as I believe most Canadians want this government gone," he told the Canstar community newspaper, The Metro, earlier this year. "I’m concerned about the growing inequalities amongst Canadians." Jonasson ran in last year’s municipal election in which he placed third in the St. James-Brooklands ward.
  4. The railing coming in from the right side is existing though right? Since row 1 of the upper deck is no longer the last row before the bottom end of the upper deck they could remove it now? Not saying it be better but it would help. Still can't help but partially blame that drunk guy at old CanadInn's for some of this.
  5. Seemed low anyway.
  6. TSN Radio is the main gig is it not? Unless he taking over for Sara O or the other local TSN person.
  7. Polishing someone else's resume and passing it off as his own. He just got caught doing what a lot of others did.
  8. Ya I probably should. I think I had one for injured before but got rid of it for some reason. Long term IR is the best thing you could say about Clitsome's future with NHL Jets.
  9. Axel Blomqvist, Austen Brassard, Aaron Harstad, David Leggio, Jimmy Lodge, Jussi Olkinuora, Brennan Serville and Peter Stoykewych will attend camp with Manitoba Moose while Jansen Harkins, Matteo Gennaro and Michael Spacek return to Jr

  13. That goal given up by Comrie was brutal. One of the worst ive seen by a Jets v2 goalie.
  14. Interesting to see who the #7 dman is. Harrison, Pardy, Postma should not be in AHL. Raffl is 29, do we want that youngster on the Moose?
  15. Bunch of callers late in the 1290 morning show. https://twitter.com/KeithPlace10/status/646697973007577089/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc^tfw
  16. Short snappers from mostly watching game... -Lemieux not that evident to me. -Kichton I did not think had a good game. -Scheif took some bad shots. -Funny how Helle pretty much had same 2 shots and looked great on one and weak on the other. -Johnny Denmark looked good. -Wheeler was barely noticeable but I think he'll make the team. -Pav still going down. -3 on 3 is great IF you have talent otherwise disasterville. Makes me hate OT even more so. -Have to wait another day to see what the scoreboard does. -Metal detectors suck. Okay I was not there but i bet they suck. -Dennis Beyak had to jinx it. -Wait, did Petan play?

  23. Calgary > Winnipeg. Not gonna happen.
  24. For those paywall damned... MONTREAL - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are not the only organization interested in the services of Kyle Walters. The Blue Bombers GM has been approached by boosters at the University of Guelph to take over as athletic director at the end of current AD Tom Kendall’s tenure. A Guelph alumnus confirmed the information on Sunday morning. "Kyle has been approached by some of our alumni to guage his interest in the postion," said the source, on the request of anonymity. Kendall, the former University of Winnipeg womens basketball coach is set to retire in December. He’s 69. Walters both played and coached at the University of Guelph and was head coach of the football team there from 2006 through 2009. "Kyle has no comment," said Bombers director of communications Darren Cameron through text when asked if Walters could be made available to discuss this development. Walters has two years remaining on his contract following this season, but speaking to a well-regarded CFL agent, it is believed there would be an opening in his pact to allow him to leave for such a position. The Bombers job would pay more per year, but the security of an AD position at a CIS school, as well as the perks associated with being a university employee, are attractive options. Walters is a native of St. Thomas, Ont., which is just 90 minutes down the road from Guelph. gary.lawless@freepress.mb.ca Twitter: @garylawless
